Initially we booked our Holiday to the San Antonio Spa and Hotel in Buggiba.
We were told the day before we left they had over booked the hotel and we have to stay in the Sun Crest hotel in Quara for 4 nights and then transfer to the San Antonio.
This was not a problm as it was only 5 mins away and we received a discount.
I dont have a bad word to say about Malta itself, beautful country, the weather was amazing, we didnt actually see a cloud for the entire 7 days and stayed above 30!!
The Suncrest hotel was a different story, the hotel was nice enough to stay in but poorly advertised, it is advertisd as a 4 star hotel which in 1980 might have been true however this is no where near to a 4 star any more.
The place is much more like a 2 star hotel, VERY basic and dated. Room was clean but old fashioned.
The pool area was nice allthough very very busy.
The biggest complaint about the hotel was the dinig area for the buffet, this consisted of plastic garden furniture!!!
Onc again nice enough f you require something very basic but if you are really looking for a 4 star hotel DO NOT BOOK THE SUNCREST!!!

We read some reviews before we we went and were a little concerned, but to be honest we had a great time at the Suncrest. The room we had was clean spacious and had the best bathroom we have had abroad for a long time. Maids came in every day, all the staff were helpful and friendly. The food was good and the pool area was fine with plenty of sunbeds. The hotel is a little tired in places and yes could do with a few improvements but you can find fault with any place you stop at. We believe we had good value for money and would definetly go back to the Suncrest.

The Suncrest has certainly seen better days! Perhaps it was a 4* in 1988 but not anymore, perhaps 2/3* at best. I travelled with my parents and my baby son. Our rooms were kept clean but they were terribly dated and really a bit scruffy. However I have to mention the maids who were unfailingly polite and thorough, if only the reception staff had been the same! Perhaps the most frustrating aspect of the holiday was the restaurant service. It was really chaotic particularly at dinner; far too many guests not enough staff/space to manage effectively. The food was reasonably good though repetitve, even after a week. The pool area was desperately in need of a clean and general upgrade, and yes the locals/random holiday makers do seem to use it, rather than just exclusively guests. This wasn't really a problem in May but at busier times it could be difficult when space would be at a premium. Would definitely go back to Malta but not to the Suncrest.

After reading some of the reviews about this hotel I was very worried to say the least . But not to worry it far exceeded our expectations. Friendly courteous and helpful staff nicely furnished rooms, and clean. Food excellent. Well done suncrest

Sol Suncrest is the worst hotel we have ever been to. We went there for a short break with our children, 4 years old and 2month old baby. We had been there on our honeymoon (1998) and on further two occasions, the last one being 2000, and as we had really enjoyed it we thought we'd go to relive memories. How mistaken we were!! The standard of the hotel has gone down to the dumps and certainly does not deserve 4 star status, not even 2 star. The room was smelly. The lock on the balcony door was broken, so it was not safe at all for the kids. As soon as my son started to explore, the door of the wardrobe fell upon him, luckily my husband caught it just in time, or the little one would have been really hurt. To make matters worse, there were dangling wires from the tv and lamps. When we complained, we were shunned off by the reception staff, who said 'ok, ok, we'll see to it', but nobody came. As for the meals they were the worst. Apart from loads of flies in each restaurant, the waiters started clearing everything off half an hour prior to closing time, and if you had the bad luck to go down at that time, you would have ended with nothing to eat. Having travelled a lot for his 4 years, our son was so disgusted with the food that he spent the whole of the three days eating slices of bread and things which we bought from outside the hotel. Staff were also really rude, ignoring us for about 15 minutes before giving us a table, even though we had a small baby and a little boy with us. The worst thing about this is that 1. we did complain but noone acknowledged the feedback form. 2. We are Maltese, and we wonder whether these people treat foreigners the same way as they treat compatriots.
Malta is our home, but we will surely never return to Suncrest unless it has been demolished and rebuilt.

Probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Everything is too much trouble. Smelly beds and room. Room a decent size & bed not bad, unfortunately, there is nothing else good to say about the hotel and its staff. Several members of our group were told off by waiting staff! Of the very many, continuously changing, reception staff, only one was helpful. Food rather unpleasant and badly presented. Fruit available often rotten.
If you have booked to stay at this hotel, please do yourself a favour: CANCEL YOUR BOOKING.

This was a fantastic family holiday. I was on holiday with my mum who is in her 60s, my 13 year old son, my 8 year old nephew and my neice who is 5. Im in my 40s.
The hotel and resort catered for people of all ages and there was plenty to do in the resort and around it. The food was fantastic and rooms were spotlessly clean. We travelled at easter and everything was open and the weather was fantastic.
I can not fault this holiday at all and am hoping to visit the same place again next year. I can recommend this hotel, resort and Malta to all ages.

I had the misfortune to book a week in this so called 4 star hotel, so here is my breakdown of it.
Location- As advertised on the sea front, but I had no sea views only crumbling buildings.
Food- I cannot complain about the food at all it was most enjoyable.
Hotel- On entering it is like walking into a palace, with marble everywhere but the good ends here. The first room allocated to us was filthy. I went down to complain but the desk staff did not want to know. Eventually I was given another room, not much better but I had no other choice. The air con unit was noisy, the fan was ready to fall off the ceiling, there were no sockets I could use and I could not open the balcony door etc.
How any holiday company can advertise this place as 4star is beyond me, I think 2star would be to good.
As for the company reps they were more than useless that's when you could get hold of them. I took mine up to my room to show her and her response was 4star in Malta is not the same as back home - SO BEWARE.
I would never stay in this place again if given it for free.

This was the worst holiday that I have had, I love Malta but staying at the Suncrest could of put me of for life.
Wardrobe doors hanging off, TV did not work, the roof was covered in tampons, toilet paper and worse. The manageress was lovely but the other staff at reception acted like they did not want to be there. We were transferred from the second floor as my mothers bathroom flooded, she is 87 and could of had a accident! When moved to the third floor there was no bed for mum and I finally managed to get one at 10pm, this was due to the maids who were great.
Food was not that bad but did not cater for the young adult so we ate out most of the time, this was also due to wanting some Maltese food which the hotel did not offer.
The pool area was over crowded so we paid to go to the private pool every day which was just up the road. The lifts were always breaking down and I was to scared to use them, so used the stairs but these were full of broken tiles so you had to be careful.
Night time was the worst, they might call it entertainment but the noise was like having a disco in the room, on a Wednesday night there were a band one side of the hotel, a disco the other (both hired by the Suncrest) then a band in the hotel next door and one up the road, the noise was terrible and even earplugs made no difference. This is the only place that I have been to that I have complained about and could not wait to get onto a plane to go home.

I did read reviews about this hotel before I went and I was a little worried, but I didn`t need to be, I loved it.
I have been to Malta before so I knew what to expect( the 4 stars in Malta are not like the ones you get in other countries) the food was good (although I did get a little bored on the second week). The staff were great ,very helpful and went out of their way for you.
There wasn`t many English in this hotel but I didn`t mind to much cos everybody spoke English.
The pool was brill, big but you had to get up early to get a sunbed but I did go at peak time.
The rooms are big and cleaned everyday along with clean towels, I had a seaveiw which was fantastic, we didn`t pay extra for this but I would in future(its worth it) I will return.

The reception area and staff are very nice, rooms were very clean but dated. The lifts very slow and broke down once with myself and daughter in it.
The food was nice, with plenty of choice. We were the only ones to get off of the Malta Bargains bus everyone else stayed at Venus and the Palm Court. We did not see a rep all week and had to go to their office to find out what time we would be collected for home journey and this was very vague. Although the office is a two min walk we felt we should not have to go and find out, this should have been information we were given.
We went into Malta Bargains other hotel the Palm Court to find rep. All I can say is if I had been staying there I would have burst into tears and left on the next flight home after just seeing the dirty dark smelly reception area.
Malta is a lovely place, very friendly people. We would certainly go back to Malta, buses run on time and are cheap, get a day ticket it cheaper and you can travel all over the island all day long.

If you would like a holiday in a Care Home go for it! We were the only young guests. There were no other children in the hotel and despite my children being well behaved grumpy old people moaned about children in the dinner hall! The food was terrible. They were unable to cope with special diets and my children ate rice and bread for a week. The rep, Whoopy, was a kindly lady, but did not help with the restaurant and food issues we were having, only on our 6th day said we could have used our passes in a different restaurant. If only we had known.
The rooms were ok but i was one adult with three kids and they put us in 2 room 8 doors apart. So we all had to crash in one room. After Madaline Mcann how can you sleep so far away!
Malta was lovely and we explored the whole island. The trips were inexpensive and most enjoyable.
Would i go again? Not until I am at least 80!!!!
