had a short break 4 nights at this apartment and was not impressed first floor apartment balcony door would not lock! beds where very uncomfortable and the shower and toilet facilities where horrible all i could smell was urine the shower didnt work properly and the plug/drain was constantly blocked water wouldnt go down so you where stood in 'manky' water whilst having a shower. overall i would not rate these apartments as 3* i would only rate 1/2*
the only plus point were the staff were friendly!

I arrived at the appartment at 1.30 on the 13th june, i went with the family and boyfriend for 11days. The reason i gave it a rating of 7 was because the appartment was nice but very basic and there wasnt much in Praia Da Rocha. We were self catering so most nights we went to resturants. But if you wanted to eat in there was only 2 electric rings to cook on. You have to rent out a toaster and kettle, there is a tv but if you want to use it you have to rent that out to. We paid 55 Euros, 30euros of that is deposit to rent the tv for 6days and if you do that you get the kettle and toaster free. You can rent them out separetly though. There is NOT any airconditioning and if you want a fan you have to rent that out, you only pay a deposit though. It wasnt really hot at night when we went so we didnt need aircon. In the Day it was 0ver 20degrees some days was over 30 and one of the days was in its 40s. We had 1 day of fog but it picked up in the evening and 2days were cloudy with spots of rain. The beds were changed once, and we had fresh towels twice, our beds were made a few times and we were given new toilet rolls. Near the pool on the complex was a food resurant it was expensive compared to being at home and the food wasnt that nice. You pay a Euro a day if you want a sun bed. We were about a 10minute walk to the beach, the beach is really nice and it is 5euros for a sunbed with a brolly for a day. Its not a very big place there is a row of resturants, bars and little gift shops which is by the sea front which is called the strip. We ate at a chinese buffet by the bottom of the strip which was nice and was cheap at 9.95 Euros. The Jazz bar resurant was very nice and we ate at the bulls inn i think that was the name. If you went left out of the complex the was a local shop. and opposite there is a nice irish bar which was really good they had entertaintment and karioke. If you were goin with a group of friends i would definatly not recomend this place because there isnt a varity off bars and nightclubs and they were empty so you would have no atmostphere. If you go with a boyfriend its quite nice but id definatly go to a different area of portugal, where there is more to see. There were a few cheaper bars but most of them were expensive. I had a nice time but i would definatly go to a different part of portugal in the Algarve but different place. If you like a loungin holiday its good. Definatly not a lively place in june for a girls or lads holiday. Portugal is a gorgeous place to go though!!!

i have actually just got bak from gatwick after takin my daughter to club praia da rocha apt for a week and just could not wait to get home to post this reveiw there was so many negative reveiws about these apartments that i read before i went but ithought i wil judge for myself so when u read read all the bad things believe me they are all true and probably ten times worse,i paid just under 400 for a wks holiday first impressions as i did arrive in the eveing reception looked ok and swimming pool looked nice again it was evening so i thought maybe it was not so bad.. then reception told me that i was not booked to stay there!! showed papers they decided to sort it out in the morning and gave me a room for the night! so off i went to apt on the 6th floor across other side of complex, the apartment was filthy blonde hair on floor myself and daughter are dark haired,it smelt sewage rusty bath a shower that was prob put in in the 60s,pillows all so old u can feel every single pieceof foam.balcony had broke tiles on was really dirty the swimmin pool was just as bad broken tiles the stepsover the brigde were leathal an old man fell one day cut all his leg lots of blood, and then my daughter fell i will upload the pictures i took of her injuries her leg has gone septic wear it was cut as was her elbow and wrist its a death trap as they are really high and my daughter is 12 so she is not a little child, maids never change my sheets allweek they might like living like that but i dont,so happy to b home,no kettle or toaster but u can hirer them or u can rent a television remote for 22eruo and u get yr kettle and toaster thrown in free but u have to pay a 10eruo deposit for each of them!!!!and u have to hirer the sun bed and parasols for 1 eruo each a day now thats a bargain n i believe these apartments have nothing on slum dog!!!!

Just back from holiday. Had a great time. We were a bit worried when we read the reviews before going but perhaps we were lucky as we didn't have any problems. The lifts are very slow which can be a bit of a pain but it wasn't as if we were in a rush. The staff on reception were very helpful and for 20 euros we managed to keep our apartment for the day as our flight wasn't until late evening, that way we gained an extra day in the sun! Can't understand people moaning about towels and sheets not being changed daily - do they change them daily at home? If you want 5 star service book a 5 star hotel!!!! The 1 bed apartment was adequate for what we wanted, they could do with a lick of paint and the beds are a bit hard but the fridge worked and we hired a remote so got a toaster too, we took a travel kettle and hairdryer with us, at the end of the day, it was somewhere to sleep and have a shower, what more do you expect for the price?
The shops and bars are nearby and you get used to walking up the steep slope after a couple of days - shows how unfit you are! Plenty of places to eat and the food is good.
We are both in our fifties and would recommend it to people of a similar age but probably only at this time of year as I don't think it would be so good at the height of the season. We hired a car so were able to get to the big supermarket for shopping and able to visit other resorts and markets.
On the whole it was a bargain holiday and we look forward to going back this time next year.

I was dreading getting to this hotel after all the reviews i read. We had prev asked for a middle floor overlooking the pool, We did get this, Thought the safe was excellent value at 40 euros and getting 25 euros back, Rooms are VERY basic two hobs, no cooker or microwave, fridge and limited pots and pans. Our beds and towels got changed at least 7 times in 10 days and the maids were friendly.
Rooms are basic and the pool was FREEZING cold!!! We only went in once and rapidly got out!!! They do charge for TV remote etc but when we were there if you hired the remote for 6 days or more you got a free toaster and kettle so not to bad, you can boil water on the hob in 5 mins!!! I didnt like the bathroom as tiles were cracked and the celing could have done with a lick on paint but what do you expect at that price?
Liked Portugal but much more expensive that spain etc, Self catering at this hotel worked out dearer as your paying a lot for the basics bread milk pop water etc. There is a supermarket as you turn left out of the hotel and that is cheapest we found Praia De Rocha has a lovely beach and we found lots of trips to do in the day but VERY limited nightlife. Me and my boyfriend are 22 & 25 and apart from karoke bars there wasnt much entertainement. For food go to the Irish Eye clean and good value. Take a lot of money as it is much more expensive, Expect to pay 10 euros for 2 drinks at night(at least)
Not a bad holiday overall, excellent weather and lots to do in the day but wouldnt rush back due to lack of entertainment at night and price but do not be put off by people who expect ritz hotels for budget prices!!!

Myself and my partner have just come back from Praia Da Rocha and we had a real nice time. There are faults, but it beats being at work! There was a lady at the sunbeds moaning her head off and I thought "ok some of her points are valid but would you rather be in rainy Britain". Take loads of money though as Praia Da Rocha is very expensive!
Hotel - 6/10
Its a basic hotel. Our room was a bit dirty, very basic, fridge broken, the lock on the door had to be mastered to get in the room! Beds uncomfortable, bed sheets and towells only changed once per week, balcony door didnt lock. But these things can be ignored. Surprised at having to pay 3 euros for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella, but no major expense. Pool freezing but you get used to it, bit dirty few leaves, feathers but nothing major. Bar area nice, huge TV, lifts not as bad as others make out to be. Games room a bit dated but didnt really go in there much. Bit of a rip off for TV, kettle and toaster rental but you get charged for everything in the hotel! Oh and dont use the phone in the room for calls to home, works out at about 1.50 per minute!
Beach - 9/10
Stunning beach, cold sea but once again you get used to it. Only reason this doesnt get 10/10 is due to the 10 euro charge for sunbeds and umbrella - bit extortionate. Be careful as sea can be rough, and if you sit near the front, be careful when tide comes in as it will cover you! Oh and if you find a pair of D&G sunglasses in the Atlantic please send them to me!!!
Take a walk to the rocks on the right or the "pier" on the left for a bit of variety. And don't use Casalinha beach bar as it is extortionate and we waited 55 minutes for our lunch. Beach lady is real nice and will tell you everything you need to know.
Resort - 6/10
Not the one for a group of single lads - go Faliraki or somewhere similar! The strip is nice, few bars, couple of clubs, loads of restaurants. Full of Irish bars, some are good some are "too Irish". We werent out to go and get drunk every night, which is lucky as we would have spent close to £1500 over 10 days if we did. Drinks are very expensive and they dont really have deals or happy hours like other resorts. In Daly's bar Magners is 6 euros - its about this much everywhere. Best places to eat we found are the restaurant to the left of Croke Park (cant remember the name - the cheese and bread isnt free - go and you will see what I mean). Another is Serra E Mar, have the steak on the stone its very good. Croke Park restaurant was awful. A pint of beer is generally 3-4 euros. You will get offered hash but just say no and they are fine. Oh and the kids with the squeaky things in there mouths drive you crazy!
We did have a lovely time, I think due to size of the strip we wouldnt go back, but wouldnt detract people from going. I wouldnt bother going now until next year as it is dead out there. At the end of the day we didnt pay much for our holiday, and it was nice to get away, so we didnt expect too much so werent too dissapointed! JUST MAKE SURE YOU TAKE PLENTY OF MONEY!!!

I have just returned home from a 3 week holiday with my husband and 2 children aged 14 and 11 at Club Praia Da Rocha. We had a great holiday and this was our 4th year staying at Club Praia Da Rocha apartments. As always the reception staff were friendly and efficient when we arrived, our room was not ready as we had arrived before our check in time,we were told to come back in 1/2 an hour and our room would be ready,we did and our room was ready,it was clean and the floors were still wet.We had cleaning service 5 times a week, our bed linen was changed weekly and we had clean towels 5 times a week. The pool is fantastic, has a slide in it for the kids, the pool area is cleaned every evening,it does get messy in the afternoons which is due to messy people not putting their rubbish in the bins and not due to hotel staff not cleaning it, it is spotless at 9.00am every morning. The sunbeds are 1 euro per day which I find a great idea as it prevents people coming down putting towels on beds and then heading off to the beach instead and depriving someone who wanted to stay at the pool a bed.The apartments are very spacious, there is crockery and cutlery pots and pans and a four ring hotplate for anyone who wishes to cook,I find eating out quite reasonable and there are plenty of nice restaurants on the strip which is a 3 minute walk away. The hotel has a games room and an entertainment lounge which in the evenings runs a mini bingo and a mini disco for the kids, there are lots of nice bars also around with entertainment.I am shocked when I see such negative reviews on Club Praia da Rocha,we have been going there for the past four years,we have never been given a dirty apartment, the staff are always polite and helpful,I agree the rooms could do with a bit of updating but it is clean, conveniently located accomodation at a reasonable price,I have passed some apartments with the doors open when the cleaning ladies are in them cleaning and have been surprised at the way some people leave their rooms, dirty clothes etc... on the floor, expecting the cleaning staff to come in and tidy up for them, maybe you are all the people who leave negative reviews if its 4 star accommodation your after then Praia Da Rocha has that too at a much higher price.
