Oct 2010, dogs dinner

what a dump we stayed here for 3 nights out of the 7 we booked and i would not let my dog stay there
room door lock was faulty and you could not get in after going out had to get the hotel maintenance man out 3 times before it was sorted
rooms dont get cleaned as stated bathrooms are the pits and the balcony doors dont lock so i would be a nervous wreck if i had any small children in the apartment
we were half board and we did not even eat anything at all in the so called restaurant areas.honestly its was the worst place i have stayed in so dont part with your money its a rip off and its the pits.

we booked into these 3 star apartments on the 29th September. A party of four in two apartments 302 and 304. My sister in law and myself in 302, there was no hot water, holes in the wall above the hob the size of small saucepan, no kettle or toaster, it did have tv which you could'nt use unless you hired the remote for 35euros then you got kettle and toaster free subject to availability. there was wiring hanging down at child level where one can only assume the cooker used to be and wiring hanging from the lights. the apartment itself was very run down and the doors had scuff marks at the bottom wear and tear we presume and the bathroom door did'nt shut unless you hitched it up and none of the patio doors locked at all. On top of that the apartment was dirty. In 304 where my other sister in law stayed with her friend, upon openeing their apartment door they were greeted with water on the floor from the fridge up to the entrance of their apt door and my sister in law slipped and hurt her arm, upon making a complaint after queueing behind plenty of other people complaining she was given towels to mop up and told it would be seen to asap and no medical help offered, the same as our complaint about the lack of any hot water, there was no assistance to rectify the problem whatsoever. I would definately not say these are 3 star apartments in fact I would'nt grade them at all. We were so disgusted we booked out after two days. The food was absolutely awful, we were bed and breakfast and chose to find somewhere else for breakfast, there was plenty of complaints about this too.

Bassil, my husband and myself spent a most enjoyable two weeks at clube Praia da Rocha, our fourth time here. As always I found the staff to be so welcoming and helpful. The rooms basic, clean and neat. The pool area always clean and well cared for. The pool bar, the bar by recetion and the video bar all gave good service and helped to make the holiday complete. In all very good value indeed.

Just arrived back from our holiday to Praia da Rocha. Me and my partner had a lovely time. The apartments are in a great location, near to the lovely beach, restaurants and bars.
The apartments aren't in the best state, the bathroom was a bit dirty, the beds are extremely hard and uncomfortable. We ended up sleeping in the sofa beds after the first few days, which were slightly more comfy. The lifts were very slow but no biggy.
We were all inclusive. Sometimes they would have things we liked such as breaded chicken but other times they would have octopus stew! We ate out when they had bizzare things like that. Breakfast is very strange, didn't touch the hot stuff. The croissants were very hard but I still ate these every day and got used to them! You can only have wine and beer during the day, you have to wait till eight to have cocktails and spirits which was stupid. The snack bar was a bit of a joke with the time limits and the ice cream was ridiculous! Its bad enough you can only get it between 12.00-1.00 then 4.00-5.00 and then we weren't allowed magnums, (which only cost 1.50)it was this crappy non named horrible small tub of ice cream.
If you're all inclusive make sure you get your moneys worth! Get lots of drinks and go up for seconds! The staff look down at you if you have an all inclusive wrist band! Some of the staff were very rude but some were nice.
In spite of all this, we had a lovely time.

rooms a bit dated but comfortable could do with towels been changed a bit more, only changed every 5 days, tennis court costs 12euro an hour which i think is a bit two expensive all the loungers were gone by 10.30 cost a euro per louger which is not to bad if ya get one, have no microwave and no air condition but can rent a fan for 10euro a week which is quite good all in all we really liked it here and would come back again the staff were helpful the pools were fairly good but a little grubby, the resort was very busy and very close to the beach only 5 minute walk, which is great the portugese were lovely, beach is gorgeous bright blue water white sand lots of people and beautiful cliffs meals were good priced around 20euro the bars and restaurants along the beach had lovely food and cocktails and good prices were planning on coming back next year and would advise people to stay here once your no mad moany all in all a great holiday richie & cleo

Great beach but not resort

Aug 2010, Connie

Great location, and nice pool, but that's about all. Rooms were horrible, in need of fixing. The sofa beds, which my daughters slept on, were terrible. Very noisy as we had to sleep with varandah doors and windows on because there was no air cond! But to top it off, having to pay to hire basics, especially the remote control for the TV was absolutely ridiculous. Would not recommend. Parking was also bad.

  • Advice: I don't recommend for families

Nice Resort, Awful Hotel

Praia Da Rocha is a nice clean resort, huge beach. If you like Irish Bars you are well catered for too. There are several excellent restaurants in the resort, I'd have to pick out the Indian restaurant on the main street and O Anchora II on the beach as ones to try out.
But this Hotel was the worst I have ever stayed in. I went with my wife and 2 daughters. We have been to many hotels across the world, many times all inclusive. But what we saw at this hotel was unique.
Whilst the hotel had many families with young children, there were many groups of young, loud foreigners. I don't particularly enjoy being awoken at 6am by loud shouting and music, and was suprised that the hotel were happy for this to happen.
A few things about this hotel. The 2nd restaurant "Pizzaria" was closed. The indoor pool was closed. The outdoor pool was dirty, full of leaves and was not cleaned during the week that I was there. This is the only hotel I have ever been to that charges for use of the TV in the room. (6 Euro). They also charge to use the sun loungers. The towels were changed once during our stay. That means you have to use the same bath towel for 4 or 5 days. The sign in the bathroom claims that maids clean the room 5 days a week. 5 must be portuguese for 2. None of the patio doors lock so a safe is recommended. A major refurbishment for the hotel, but especially the rooms is needed.
We were all-inclusive which brings me to the worst side of the hotel - the food. Breakfast would feature a very limited choice. Every morning there was sloppy eggs - I presume it's the hotels take on scrambled eggs. Tinned sausages like those cheap hot dog sausages made from mechanically reclaimed chicken. Then each day you would get a different 3rd hot option. One day baked beans, one day warmed up sliced ham, one day bacon (ish) one day mushrooms, one day, unbeliveably, mixed veg - carrots, sweetcorn and runner beans. For breakfast there was also 1 cold meat, cheese, choice of 2 or 3 cereals croissant or bread for toasting. Although the bread often had flies on - there wasn't a single flyscreen in the restaurant.
Lunch and dinner were very limited on choice. There was the same limited salad out every lunch and dinner and because it was exactly the same you felt it wasn't as fresh as it could be. There was soup too, a couple of times it was ok, but most of the time was very poor. Fries and rice always featured and you would get a couple of options that changed, typically fish and pork or fish and chicken. Desert was the same every lunchand dinner. Tinned fruit or bland cake. My tip would be go for the tinned fruit from the bottom of the bowl as it is less likely to have had flies on.
I would only recommend this hotel to young people who would be out partying a lot, and just need a bed to sleep on. Definately don't have the food.

you basically get what u pay for. It was quite clean most would say that it could do with refurbishment but realistically i and probably most people will only sleep in the room and is out most of time so didnt bother me at all. the only disappointment that i had was that the room didnt get cleaned at all, i did it and it took 5 mins so wasnt much of a problem. overall nice holiday and hotel in ideal location.

ALL INCLUSIVE!!! yea with set times breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack bar only available to all-inclusive from 11am-12 and 3pm-4pm. Ice creams for kids (Cheap Tubs) 4pm-5pm and don't dare ask for 1 before the time..drinks.. cheap wine or beer day & night & tea or coffee BUT your not allowed a Tetley tea bag.. only their own make. limited spirits Vodka, brandy, whiskey & Port from 8pm-12only.. 3 cocktails only available to all inclusive. Staff are not all but most of are grumpy and will serve a paying customer before all inclusive.. Apartment was ok but beds were awful and if your all inclusive you can RENT your tv remote and they will give you a kettle & toaster free!!! whal...Maids were friendly and a few of the staff. Never seen reception staff smile once..BUT the pool was great for the kids and if your watching your pennies well what the heck.. the sun was there and praia da roch certainly is lovely...

Had a great time here but it certainly is dated.. about 20 years too late... old tiles, apartments need lots of updating... but all in all... if u pay next to nothing then u get wot u pay for.... We was all inclusive and was not impressed with the restrictions of ice creams between 12 - 1 and 4 - 5 and snacks between 11-12 and 3-4.... never heard of this b4 when going all inclusive.... found certain staff very rude... but all in all... had a great time... no kids club as advertised, had to get up every morning at 8.30 to queue for our sunbeds which was bizzare as there was loads of room but the hotel did not have enough beds....food was not good but had read that before we left.. bit tight on the hotels part but it was only a 3 star !... but my daughter (6) had a lovely time..... and thats what made our holiday...

we just came back from our holliday in this hotel. yes, the room is a bit dodgy,as all hotel wasnt refurbished since day one. old worn furniture, horrible floor tiles, which always makes your feet dirty, towels changed every 4 days, but it wasnt change at all! also need to pay for remote control, kettle, toaster, etc. but we didnt spend what much in our room, as there is so many activities around, and the room is useful just to come and get some sleep and take a shower. so cant complain much about it.
in other hand the staff is really friendly, the pool is amazing!big enough for everyone, also the pool for little ones. clean fresh & cool water. and food in restaurant is delicious, specially the desserts, fresh fruits, diffetent cakes, jelles, etc.
the location is ideal, just 5min from main street with shops, restaurants, bars and beach. the beach is simply amazing!
to sum up, we had a wonderful time there, despite a little disapointment in hotel room.
