Hurrah! Just returned from our best ski-ing holiday yet. Two adults and two children aged 10 and 12, for a change the accomodation was clean well presented and very spacious with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, (I think this may be the only four bed accommodation). The... more

I, like others had read some bad reviews about the Petit Palais Hotel and the staff. How wrong these reviews were! The hotel is situated perfectly, right next to the cable car. The rooms are cleaned everyday with fresh towels on Wednesdays and are a good size for one... more

Noisy hotel. We were evacuated one night at 3am as somebody did something to the fire extinguisher. Unfortunately this was the only hotel we could get in for our big group, 15 of us, we understood why. People shouting and screaming at 1-2am at corridors. It doesn't help... more

Rauris is a very pretty little village and is kept very clean and tidy. There are four or five bars which we found to be quiet except for the last night. Restaurants were reported to be good by some doing b & b and cost around 12 - 15 euros for a meal. The bar staff were... more

Having stayed in Italian owned & run hotels for the 2 years prior to staying at the Petit Palais, I would give the following advice. If you like being in a 'Brit environment' with many of the staff appearing to be gap year students who can best be described as enthusiastic... more

Great location - hotel was good with some reservations
I feel that I have to redress the balance a bit! We stayed at this hotel during half term and really enjoyed it. However, I can understand some of the comments given as this was not really a 4 star hotel. We did not pay the full brochure price to stay here, but got an excellent deal and, because of this, we could not expect luxury. What we did get, however, was excellent service from all the staff who were delightful and helpful in every way possible. We thought that the food was good and enjoyed almost all of the meals - you certainly wouldn't go hungry here and we felt that every effort had been made to give us a good meal each evening. Sean, the chef, came out and spoke with guests after every meal and talked about the meals that he was planning for future days and it was clear that he was doing his best. We appreciated it. Yes, the rooms were small, but the decor was not offensive and the rooms were clean. The bar had been decorated to a high standard and the staff were very accommodating. I agree that a coal fire would have been an inviting touch as there was the facility for one! The hotel was in the best location for the gondola and there is a ski run straight down to the hotel so that was an excellent plus. The skiing was also fantastic. When we arrived there was little snow but you can ski over to Zermatt which is always good. After a few days it snowed relentlessly and so conditions soon became wonderful in Cervinia - no need to go further afield. In summary, we had a great time in Cervinia and the hotel was perfect for our needs. Bearing in mind what we paid, we could not possibly complain but I can understand someone doing so if they had paid 3 times the amount we did! I think I too would have expected a little more luxury in those circumstances.
Dont Do It!!!!!!!!
Picture this - you are travelling from 4.00am to get to Cervinia from Dublin. You arrive around 3pm local time. Its snowing. You are wrecked and cold and you get reach the hotel Petit Palais. At around 1500 each you think you are going to the Ritz right? WRONG!!! I have been on 200e holidays to Playa del Ingles that have been nicer. The bedrooms are ridiculously small with lime green walls and radiators, bright yellow ceiling, brown curtains and a bathroom that gets drenched if you put the childrens size bath/shower on! I could hear my parents snoring in the next room. Crystal reps couldnt care less that there were eight 18 year olds and a ghetto blaster making noise all night. To make matters worse the food was laughable. The ski-ing is superb mind you and the location of the hotel is the only thing going for it! Hotel Europa is on the other side of the village - same price and much much better.
Very Disappointed !!
We have just returned from staying at this hotel for one week in the middle of February. On our arrival, to our horror we discovered that this was not a four star hotel which we thought we had booked, and which had been described as being a four star hotel on our receipt. We had a meeting with Richard the Crystal Rep, who explained that the hotel had, in fact, 4 diamonds, not four stars !! The lounge/bar area had a large fireplace with logs in it...unlit ... with Christmas lights twinkling to give effect.. instead of a real fire ! The rooms were miniscule. The staff were all very nice, but there were no professional staff there. They badly need professional cleaners, waiters, and cooks. If for some reason you can't go skiing on any day, there is nowhere for you to sit... the hotel practically closes up during the day... everyone is gone skiing ! The food was inedible, to say the least. The evening meals resembled school dinners - with free wine that was undrinkable. As we were in a large party it was impossible to go into the town to the lovely restaurants, but I would strongly recommend that you do not eat in the hotel.
Great Location- shame about everything else.
Just came back from a weeks skiing yesterday staying at this hotel. Word of warning if it is purely the skiing you are going for and absolutely nothing else, then this hotel is for you. The hotel is in a brilliant position probably only a 100 or so metres from the gondala. The hotel itself has recently been refurbished which is quite nice however the rooms are quite small with the smallest shower cubicles in the whole wide world!!! We were also told that the hotel had no baths which is what you really need after a days skiing. The food in the hotel is awful! My advice is dont eat it!!! Yes, the staff are all English and are very pleasant however they are hungover nearly everyday and are not guided by any kind of management, it appears at all. The rooms were not cleaned at all during our stay and the only way that we got clean towels was to leave them on the floor in the hallway outside our room door!! Having said that the Crystal Rep Richard was very nice and helpful and we still had a great weeks skiing. I would definately come back to cervinia but next time will stay elsewhere!!
Nice hotel - shame about the food
We stayed here last week with Crystal. The accommodation was fine, good room with bath, view of the mountains and plenty of hot water. Friendly and helpful staff - all english. Large comfortable lounge/bar area where afternoon tea was served. Breakfast was OK as long as you kept to the cold buffet. Essentially any cooking was dreadful, either cold or inedible. Dinner was pretty grim most nights, the worst was a seafood risotto which turned up resembling porridge with mussels. The dining room was only one third full by the end of the week, most people eating in the village restaurants. The boot/ski room was extremely cold - take your boots up to your room with you to keep them warm for the morning.
Good location
Good location, but the steps in to and back from the town are a little hard. Food wasn't fantastic, but the location more than made up for it. All British staff. Overall a good holiday.
Good base for a ski holiday in Cervinia
A good base for a ski holiday in Cervinia as the hotel is less than 100 metres from the Cable Car to the main ski area. The hotel is operated by Crystal so expect it to be full of Brits and Irish. Most of the staff are also young Brits, pale, tired and unkempt, 'multi-tasking' their way through the day, cleaning rooms in the morning, serving dinner in the evening. Bedrooms are smart, well lit - though you may not like the yellow and lime green decor - and bathrooms have been freshly tiled. The lounge is spacious and a good spot for - free - afternoon tea and after dinner coffee. The bar is rather expensive but there is a two hour 'happy hour' before dinner. Fortunately, the one Italian on site is the Chef and he has created an interesting menu - including good vegetarian dishes - though there are few Italian ones. Ingredients are of high quality and dishes are well prepared and presented in the spacious, attractive dining room. Service though from the untrained British staff is 'error prone'.
Good location - good food
We enjoyed our stay in Cervinia in March 2005. The Hotel in now run by Crystal - so all the staff and guests are English - not the place for an Italian experience. The food was excellent (although English) and the staff were friendly. The Hotel is in an excellent location - you avoid a steep climb up a hill by staying here and it is very close to the main lift. The ski runs that come back to near the Hotel are fairly tricky though - too difficult for beginners. I'd recommend this Hotel if you choose to go to Cervinia. Note of warning though - Cervinia is badly affected by strong winds that closed a number of ski lifts when we stayed. Otherwise we very much enjoyed the ski area.
Big improvement
Stayed here in mid January 2005. Is run by Crystal who I think may have long term lease on it. We'd been here two years ago. Its in excellent location for main ski lifts and you can ski back to within 100 metres. Its been refurbished. Bedrooms are smallish but comfortable and clean - make sure you get a view of the Matterhorn. The downstairs lounge and bar area has been fully refurbed and is pretty pleasant - good bar area, table footy, pool, but lots of space. Much better than before. Separate large dining area. Food is excellent - choice offered which you order at breakfast time. Good breakfasts incl choice of hot and cold - good selection. Staff pretty young and typical for ski resorts but very friendly and hotel overall is well managed. Hot water can be a problem - was one night for us - but we got it eventually. Recommend it - several groups go there. And most people were pretty happy bunnies.
the very petit palais
Stayed there 5 days a number of years ago. The hotel is well located for the main ski lift up into the mountains but the rooms were small (almost tiny) and there was no hot water at critical times (like 1700 hrs after skiing). The restaurant was reasonable though not great
