Nov 2011, gem

Looking at the other reviews from the past customers its hard to believe that we have stayed at the same chalet! our group of 4 stayed here in March 2010 and had the most amazing week, made even better by the chalet and the the 2 staff members allocated to la sequoia. The food was amazing and after a long day on the slopes we couldn't wait to get back to the tasty food and comfortable atmosphere. There was a cake made each day and the fridge in the lounge area was always fully stocked and worked on an honesty basis. The chalet was in general of a good standard both clean and well looked after and the staff went to every length to make our stay here very fulfilling and enjoyable. The chalet itself is well placed for all the bars and shops and was ideal for our every needs. I will definately be coming here again without a doubt.

Avoid at all costs

We stayed at Sequoia in March and had an overall awful experience.
1. We had paid extra to have a room with ensuite so that we did not have to share showering facilities, however there was no hot water available at all on our side of the chalet for five of the seven days. Hence this meant actually going outside to share the bathroom on the other side of the chalet with approximately 14 other guests.Even if we had not paid for ensuite, the time taken to resolve this issue, the misinformation and having to share showering facilities with this number of people would have been unacceptable. Crystal were utterly useless in resolving the issue.
2. The food served in the chalet was some of the worst that had ever been placed in front of us. The standard was worse than the worst school canteen dinner ever recalled. Very basic, tasteless and overcooked food which was of a disgraceful standard.
3. Serious lack of hygiene throughout chalet both in terms of lack of facilities/ soaps etc but also poor understanding of hygiene demonstrated by chalet hosts both in food handling/ serving and throughout chalet.
4. Chalet was filthy in many parts and was obvious rooms had not been cleaned in quite some time judging by amount of dust etc throughout bedroom and living room areas.
5. Overall chalet was in very poor state of disrepair with broken light fittings, broken handrails on the stairs, mould throughout ensuite and bathroom, broken shower fittings etc.
Worst property we have ever stayed in and such a disappointment.

  • Advice: Do not stay here- only good point is location in terms of proximity to slopes.
  • Good For: City Breaks

Hi
Just returned from a holiday at Chalet Sequoia and can't praise it highly enough. Very relaxing hosts who looked after us very well with good food and excellent cakes. No problems with using the balcony to access the 2 living areas, actually increased the feeling of space.

We were holidaying over Christmas 2010 and were particularly keen to stay somewhere with a good reputation for high quality catering whilst still being close to the slopes.
This chalet is close to the slopes and bars but high quality is not a phrase that should ever be associated with it. The crystal hosts initially were awful, providing food that was inedible. No joke - porridge you break your teeth on; cakes you wonder if they have ever seen the inside of an oven!
Once we had seen the interesting serving habits of our host - fingers to serve dessert with a quick lick and suck to clean her fingers between plates, we realised we could put up with no more. We complained to the crystal team and we were fortunate enough to have the hosts replaced with some hosts who have actually had some formal catering training!
The accomodation itself is falling apart and has leaks. Most hooks fall off when used; door + cupboard knobs would often appear in your hand. More worringly, the chalet is extremely insecure - due to crystal staff popping in and out whenever they feel the urge and also because the connecting balcony is not locked!
There is some misleading selling in the crystal description of this accomodation and unless you are in one of the two twin rooms with ensuite facilities you will be sharing a bathroom. The separate shared wc and bathroom does mean you may not be able to wash your hands having used the wc - this is madness as there is so much space available to put in a washbasin or indeed private shower facilities.
I would not recommend staying in this accomodation if a good standard of food and hygiene is what you are after. However, if you are looking for somewhere near the slopes and bars then you will be happy.

I have just returned from Le Sequoia Chalet and would have to say that I was very disappointed. There was quite a lot of history behind the problem...mainly that 3 weeks before we were due to travel Crystal withdrew the original holiday, to Montgenevre, that we (party of 12) booked back in mid February. The alternatives that they offered were not what we wanted but this was the best we were offered.
The chalet itself was originally built as 2 chalets, but is offered as one large chalet, that would not be too bad except there are no adjoining doors so you need to either go out through the front door on on a balcony to get to the other chalet. (Not nice in 40MPH winds!) As the dining room was in one chalet and the lounge in the other it was obviously necessary to do this on a regular basis.
The other main problem is that the chalet hosts were nowhere near to the standard we expected, one was obviously not interested in helping out in any way, and said as much to us. The other was better but was obviously not trained in the service industry! (He basically accused us of stealing food from the fridge - needless to say we hadn't) As we spent most of our time in the lounge area the hosts seemed to think that the dining area was their social area (late afternoon/early evening) playing music, and there were frequent visitors there, who we assume were Crystal staff, but could not be sure. Our rep was not really helpful either.
The resort was not want we wanted as it is fairly large with plenty of bars. (Great if that's what you want, but we didn't) The Skiing is great for intermediates and advanced skiers, but as over 1/2 our group were beginners it was not the best for us.
