Metropole Hotel reviews
Jul 2006, Mr J Clark
I first caught sight of the magnificent harbour of Valetta, rightly called Grand Harbour, as a wide-eyed National Service Royal Navy “Snotty” in the 1950’s. I was heavily into Nicolas Monserrat’s sea adventures and he truly described the magnificent fortified... more

Like a WW2 Hospital
from A TripAdvisor Member
I'm the kind of person who never complains about much - I rarely ever send a meal back because it isn't cooked the way I wanted and I'm generally a very polite and quiet person. I just moved to the Island of Malta. My partner came over for a visit a few weeks back and I decided to put her in the Metropole because we haven't got much money and a lot of people here give it decent reviews. When I first walked into the room I thought 'oh my god' - the decor is honestly on a par with a 50 year old hospital and the place is quite...

I stayed at the Metropole one night before starting a backpacking trip through Malta and Sicily. Booking this place was sort of last minute and I was really just hoping for a soft bed, a decent meal, and a hot shower before I caught the ferry to sicily. The first night I paid the fee($21 us) and had the buffet in the dining room... talk about disapointment... the food was hardly better than airplane meals... and the wine was certainly not good. That night I bought 1 hour of internet time so I could check my finances and write a few...

Absolutely loved the Metropole
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just come back from a fourth night holiday stay in Malta. We stayed at the Mteropole Hotel in Sliema, Malta. The staff was very friendly, especially the reception staff which were all very helpful. The food was very good and a quite good variety was presented every night. Although the rooms were quite simple, the cleanliness was impeccable. The cleaning staff did an amazing job and they are also ready to help you with anything you need. We also enjoyed snacking on a light meal in the bar at mid day, anything we asked for the...

Frank Attard, Toronto Canada April 25th,2006 This is the second time that I took a group of people to Malta from Toronto where we stayed at the Metropole Hotel in Sliema at halfboard. None of the 50 people that I had with me complained about anything. The staff were excellent in helping at whatever we needed and very pleasant. Breakfast and dinner were very good and the rooms were cleaned everyday. The location of the hotel is excellent where one can walk a few yards to the boardwalk and enjoy the waterfront scenery. All...

Not a bad hotel, get what you pay for...

The Metropole is located in a very good area, right in the middle of Sliema & Spinola Bay. The rooms are very basic but we didn't spend much time in them. I would recommend this hotel for the location & staff. The staff behind the desk are very helpful with places to see & directions on how to get there. If I was after a cheap holiday then I would stay at the Metropole again.
Hotel in need of reclassification
from A TripAdvisor Member
If you're expecting a modern three star hotel - you're going to be dissappointed with the Metropole. Despite the excellent location - close to St Julians and and Sliemma, convenient restaurants and bus stops and very attentive staff (see below), the hotel has seen better days. From my experience of other international hotels (I take it that is what the row of flags outside the Metropole signify?) I would have to classify it as a large budget hotel and at best would give it a single star. Lets start with the room. Although generally...

Depressing
from SR1962
I stayed at the hotel whilst on business in Malta, unfortunately we had no option but to stay here, if I had had a choice, we would of transfered to another hotel immediately. We visited in early Feb 2006 along with 200 guests. The others seemed to be on a package deal of 4 weeks full board for what we could calulate £500 all in...very good value! After the first night, I felt a decending cloak of depression after a hard days work, no wonder the 'inmates' were drinking brandy at 3 in the afternoon, we nearly joined them. The...

Don't stay at The Metropole
from JeanWolverhampton
Cheap, budget hotel, not worth more than 2 star. Clean, but rooms very basic. Tiny balcony which only had room for one chair. Rest of hotel run down, with rainwater coming through ceiling in lounge. Lounge furniture falling to bits, threadbare, and very uncomfortable. Entertainment provided approx. 3 nights per week. Food awful - dinner either undercooked or burnt, potatoes watered down. Poor choice. Soup either no salt, or the equivalent of the Dead Sea!. Breakfast exactly same every day, choice of 4 cereals, various breads,...

What a lovely stay!
from A TripAdvisor Member
We just came back from our stay at the Metropole, and I must say what a fantastic holiday it was!! The Staff was incredible, all of them were such nice people always ready to help out. When we asked for an upgrade the manager was immediately there to help us, the service in the restaurant was really good too, so was the bar. I must say that the only problem was that the food lacked abit, it seemed always to be the same kind of food, but it's very easy to find a restaurant or bar which serves food since the hotel is so close to the sea...

I stayed at the Metropole for 7 nights in October. A 3 star rating seems over ambitious in my opinion. The hotel is situated in a quite residential area of Sliema, some distance away from the main centre of the town. It is however a short walk to the promenade which conencts Sliema to St. Julians and which makes for a pleasant stroll. The reception area is probably the best part of the hotel, but this apart, it is in need of a refurbishment. The staff at reception were always very friendly and polite. The buffet breakfast was extremely...

I have visited Malta on many occasions and usually stay at the Imperial Hotel in Sliema where the standard of service is good, but on this occasion opted for the Metropole Hotel. This hotel could best be described as a glorified youth hostel and is best avoided at all... more
