out of this world
arrived at vp last week i dont do hotels much but this place was a shock to our systems beautiful hotel spotless clean, fantastic pool if you can get near, we dident food ok unless you are very very fussy you will find something (messive hotel) staff frendly be prepared to pay 10euro a day on the beach for beds and brolly.airport was something else we were treated like cattle coming in and worse going out (2 hr Q outside the building) i have been all around the world and never treated like this Bulgaria is finished for us first and last
nice hotel shame about the food
we arrived at the victoria palace on the 29 may 06, the hotel itself is visually stunning maids all over cleaning, bedrooms are spacious and comfortable we were on the 7 floor overlooking the sea. Hotel drinks are expensive, a short walk down the front and drinks are cheaper we stopped of the caribi bar and the drinks are cheaper. After 1 week we were bored, hotel food was ok for first week but by second week became samey and i gave up eating there, however do try the restaurants around the hotel. Friends bar do a wicked steak the chinese behind the marvel hotel was excellent. Be warned the sunloungers are impossible to get hold of i sent my husband down at 7am every morning just so we could get one, if towels are left unattended the pool attendent would remove them and dump them in a corner at side of pool. Upon leaving we were supposed to be having a farewell party at 9pm, we rushed back to hotel and discovered without any warning the manager had cancelled it due to football, dont bother asking to see manager hes never there we asked and was told he was unavailable.Take care on bridges over pool we saw so many ambulances arriving ferrying people to hospital who had slipped on them, myself and our 9 year old daughter both slipped on thembut were lucky to be okay. Maids that clean the rooms are very good clean towels every day and beds made they do a great job. The restaurant man on the door at the hollywood restaurant was very pleasant my husband nicknamed him scratch. If you do visit sunny beach just bear in mind there are alot of beggars on the streets, a man walking with a bear which did upset me, crocodiles, snakes all wanting to take a photo of you with them. I am afraid that i wont be returning to sunny beach in the near future.
stay well away!
Just got back from 1 week in Sunny Beach staying in Victoria Palace and how we were disappointed!! There were several things that really annoyed us about the hotel...the fact that there is only one lift for each section of the hotel and that if you miss the lift you have to wait 5-10 mins for the next one and then it could be full so you could face a futher wait!! The staff are unbelievably rude, you might be lucky to get a grunt out of them...while waiting for a drink in the Safari Bar the girl behind the bar just told us that it was table service only but we said we wanted to sit at the bar and she couldn't have been more rude and made us wait another 5 mins, in the end we walked out!! We didn't eat the food in the restaurant because everyone we spoke to told us to avoid it, which we did...and found a lovely restaurant called 'Friends' just outside the hotel where the staff were very very friendly and the food was great!! We ate there everyday and were never disappointed! Forget about the pool..you will never get a bed probably due to people putting their towels down early in the morning even though they are notices up saying that towels left on empty beds will be removed! The beach however was beautiful but there is a charge for the beds 6 lev (€3) per bed and umbrella is 6 lev aswell...just another expense to be aware of! So basically we will not be returning to Sunny Beach and especially the Victoria Palace they should not be allowed to call themselves a 4 star hotel its barely even a 2 star!!! i thought hotels were given their star rating for service not on how they look!!!!
night time eye opener
Read some poor reviews so had us thinking!! On arrival at night, we were met by a stunning hotel. There were a few Ohs (from those not departing the coach)!! On entering, we were stunned by a huge/ magnificant chandellier ( a real eye opener). Room for 2 adults and 1 child was very spacious...and so to sleep. Day time, were greated by a number of adjoining pools on different levels which looked so clean and inviting. Food hall was a bit compact if everybody arrived at once- food good on most nights but ok on others. There were several moaners who I think expected the standard of food to match the look of the hotel.. these same people had plate fulls of food every night and at breakfast (which says it all).Great location on to the beach. Definetly morre pros than cons. Would rate the hotel 10/10 as a hotel. Food 7/10.
Don't Go there!!!
We knew little about Sunny Beach when we booked but had high hopes. When we arrived at the Victoria Palace at 4am it was stunning! The hotel is beautiful but there are so many problems - below I've listed a few: Staff friendliness - we went to ask about a bus to St Vlas and was met by a 'Don't know' - as the suited gentleman behind reception made a hasty retreat never to be seen again! Hollywood restaurant - lucky if you can find a table, when you do the tablecloth won't have been changes since 1975 and there won't be any clean plates or knives - the waiters/waitresses pounce on you to get you a drink and don't even dream of attempting to leave without putting the money in their hand - we made the mistake of leaving it on the table one night and was chased by a very disgruntled waiter who thought we were leaving without paying our £1.20!!?? Add to that the food - urgh - not sure what most of it was but the so called Beef was definitely spam! And I'm not a fussy eater! Pool area - nowhere near enough sunbeds for the size of the hotel. The pool staff remove all towels that are placed before 8am but still no chance of getting one! There are beautiful bridges over the pools - be warned though - you'll need climbing gear to get over them!! A few steps either side and then it's mount everest here we come!! Fine when dry, but very slippery and dangerous when wet. Bars - don't expect conversation in the Safari Bar - you get your drink placed in front of you with a clunk and the bill thrust underneather a glass - but no word, no smile, no thank you, not even a glance! How do they do that - they can take an order without even looking at you!!?? The pool bar however, manned by a fantastic, friendly waiter called Roman - he was by far the nicest member of staff we met in the whole time we were there. To everyone else we appeared to be an inconvenience to them. Then there's the promenade - if you don't mind having grizzly bears, snakes and baby aligators thrust at you for a photo opportunity - Go-Go Girls leaflets slapped in your hand at every turn (indeed whilst walking with children) then maybe this is the resort for you. Don't get me wrong - the countryside is beautiful - the beach is fantastic and Nessebar is well worth a visit. There are some fantastic beach bars, all serving anything you can want and happy hours galore. The overall impression is that they are there waiting to rip you off at every given opportunity - even the cigarettes for sale are reputed not to be legitimate.
loved hotel, the height of luxury staff friendly and buffet food lovely
my husband and i have just returned home after two glorious weeks in the victoria palace. We found the staff friendly and helpful and the standard of the hotel was excellent i dont know why the british complain so much about this hotel as it one of the best i have stayed in so far..to the staff of the hotel thank you for making this amost enjoyable experience on our first visit to your country and hopefully we will be back soon
The Victoria Palace Experience!
A group of 19 people from babies to Granparents stayed here Aug 2005. On the whole we enjoyed our holiday. Our first impressions of the hotel were ones of awe at the decor. The furnishings in the foyer , numerous bars, corridors are beautiful and must have cost a fortune. The rooms are nicely done, our room didn't have a balcony but with a 18 month old toddler I was relieved, due to the sheer height of the room, we were on the eigth floor looking out towards the sea - lovely view! Food isn't too clever! but I thought brekkie was ok, mainly due to the choice and you could always have fruit if all else failed. Didn't think much of the attitude of the restaurant staff. It was an ordeal for them to get you extra crockery and if the coffee machine ran out they eventually managed to fill it! But didn't think much of the Bulgarian attitude towards us Brits on the whole, rather ignorant and only became helpfull if you were spending money with them. We realised half way through the holiday that some of the barmen at the VP added drinks you hadn't had to the bill. After that we asked for receipts every round and checked them before paying and that sorted them out!"! Sunbeds are a joke we took turns to do bed watch which meant one of our party got down to the pool for 7am and sat there till we all came down! I would stay at this hotel again but a week in Sunny Beach was enough, we had a few stormy days and found little else to do other than drink and eat which is fine but not when some of the party are professional sunbathers!!!
Don't go!
We arrived in Sunny Beach at the end of the season, so had trouble finding an open hotel. When we arrived at Victoria Palace we were relieved that it was open - and it seemed nice. It was late, so we asked if the restaurant was still open - they said yes. So we went to our room. We were a little disappointed - it was fine, but a little worn for such a new hotel. And the beds were a little too soft. And the leopard-print floor was simply obnoxious. Still, we were happy with the view and simply to have a room. We went downstairs to go to dinner, only to find that it was actually closed. for a party for the hotel employees. Discouraged, we asked the desk to call us a cab to take us to a restaurant. The cab was actually a hotel employee, who charged us 3 times the price a cab would have cost - and took us to a pit with barely edible food. Once we got back the hotel the employees were in the midst of a full-swing party - and in our room the music was pounding! We asked to be moved. They complained that we were taking them away from their party, but said they find another room for us. An hour later (and nearly 11:30 pm now) we checked on what was taking so long. We foudn that they were fixing up a room that was clearly under construction, smelled horrible, and didn't even have a shower curtain. At this point, we were so fed up that we asked for our money back. Then we found out that the reception desk was going to pocket our money personally - because one of them took the money out of her purse to return to us. We ended up at another hotel in Nesebar, which was infested by cockroaches - and amazingly we both felt that this was a better choice than the expensive Victoria Palace racket.
dont go
my main subject i need to focus on is the food provided in this hotel, may i firstly point out that myself and my partner are not fussy people but the food here is barely edible, we both suffered food poison during our stay lasting around 4 days. food that should have been hot was only warm, so was the salad, often unrecognisable, eggs on occasion were green! They did provide one microwave which was missing it's plate. The coffee machine was surly and only provided "coffee" when it felt like it, toasters were provided that didn't know they were toasters, crockery and cutlery that could have probably given you food poison on their own. The room was lovely but unfortunately not rainproof and the constant banging on the roof above our room - from 8am till 8pm (we complained and were told simply that the roof was under repair) - did not help us form a positive opinion of this hotel. only good point - maid service was excellent
not to bad
Stayed in the VP 2004 rooms massive very posh few problems. Food sorry to say disgusting cold limp dry yuk only atr in the resteraunt couple times. Pool really good no entertainment
