The hotel was lovely- great location, gardens fanastic, loved the beach and pool- nice room and the staff very helpful although here comes my but- reception staff need to check that they do not book guests to rooms already occupied. Therefore my first impressions of the hotel service were good After a long flight which was delayed - tired , hungry and needing a shower we wanted to get into our room. We were given our key and after walking about three blocks and up to the top floor - we open the door to discover a couple already in there!! We then walked back to get another key - again we walked- about four blocks ! and again the room had someone in there. By this time we were not happy. The luggage man arrived and he said he'll go back to sort it out- we then had to wait another 25-30 mins - in the corridor . He came back and then took us back on his luggage car to the reception. 15-20 mins later they finally gave us another key - no appologises plus I had to keep askng for them to sort it out. At last we got our own room!.We had not time to shower so went straight to the restaurant. By that time fellow guests from the plane were leaving the restaurants.
I complained to the rep - and a bottle of wine was sent to room. I do not think that was good enough because it was very upsetting and took longer for us to relax.
I do not expect this from a 4 star + hotel considering the money spent is to have everything done for you in a profesional and helpful manner.
Its not just the double bookings but the fact that we could get into other guest rooms-security.
Apart from the above we enjoyed our stay - Although I do agree the manners and loudness of the Americans became annoying at times - I don't think I'll moan about the British again. Plus the lack of consideration regarding the sunbeds- some thing should be done .
I will go back to Mexico and even back to this hotel!

This hotel is tired and old looking. It needs a complete makeover to spruce it up. The rooms are a horrible pale orange colour and make it dark, even during the day. The reception areas and dining room are exactly the same. A good coat of paint for the whole hotel would do. Otherwise the food was good but repeatative and it got boring after 1 week. The speciality resturants were good and no complaints there. The beach is wonderfull. White sand, sky blue sea, sunshine, FANTASTIC. Staff are excellent. A 2 dollar tip work wonders.
Overall we will not be back to this hotel, as we have stayed in the Rui's next door, and they are a different class. So much better.
Best part of the holiday.............Bubba Gumps in Cancun AIRPORT going home. Try It !!!

Me and my partner stayed here for 2 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay. The first room we had was on the ground floor but the shower kept flooding the bathroom, so we asked for another room and management then moved us up to the 6th floor North tower with a sea view, as they said it was their fault that there was a problem with the first room. We found the staff very helpful and friendly, very polite and couldn't do enough for us. The food was of a very good standard with plenty to choose from. Breakfast was lovely, omelettes and fried eggs cooked fresh in front of you, lunch had a very wide choice too. Evening meals were also of a very high standard, plenty to chosoe from.
Daytime round the pool was so relaxing, plenty of sunbeds, choice of 3 swimming pools, bar staff very good at remembering what you drank and how strong you liked your cocktails!
We ate out once in the Chinese Restaurant across the road in the Kulkukan Shopping Mall as we fancied a change, and what we couldn't eat there, they boxed up for us to take away. Again, they were friendly and helpful - I'd definitely go there again too!
All in all, we had a fabulous holiday. Anyolne who goes in March has got to expect more noise from everyone and everything as it is Spring Break so more students will be there, but as we went in August we found it was perfect, not overly noisy at all.
We would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.

I had been told about Cancun, mexico. The flight was great and really helped set our holiday off to a fantastic start! The rooms were of a very decent size, cleaned every day to a high standard. We had a fridge in our room which was filled daily also. There was a double shower in the bathroom, along with a hairdryer, plenty of soap, creams, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. I can't say how pleased we all were with this hotel. The service was fantastic to a degree i couldn't adjust to getting waited on. The staff always had a smile, and very willing to help! The selection of food was fantastic, and there was always a nice theme ever night. There was alot of food i had never tried before, and i am still trying to replicate the recipes. My father has been 5 times and the standard has not changed since the first time, and is going back next year. Happy holiday everyone :)

We went to this hotel in March this year, having never been to Mexico before we were a little unsure what to expect. The hotel was great, the gardens were fantastic and the staff really worked hard to keep the hotel up to a high standard. My husband is a very fussy eater and even he had no trouble finding food he liked in the many restaurants options available.
The only thing to be aware of is the costal erosion in this area, however this hotel is well placed down the flater part of the beach so it shouldn't spoil your experience.
I would recommend this hotel without hesitation and I hope to go back soon!

On Sunday March 2, 2008, my boyfriend and I were accused of staying at Barcelo Tucancun Resort. We were forced to pay $125 USD each ($247 total) or management would call the cops. We attempted to explain our situation, but management refused to listen to us.
On Saturday March 1, 2008 we attended a wedding on Isla Mujeras. We stayed on the island Saturday night. The following morning we stopped by Barcelo Tucancun to say goodbye to our friends from the wedding.
When we arrived, luggage in tow, numerous vans were unloading guests and no bell-hop commented when we walked in the door. However, two hours later we were stopped exiting the facility and accused of staying at the all-inclusive resort the prior night.
The manager was unbelievably rude and accusatory. He did call our friend’s room and spoke Spanish very quickly, which we couldn’t understand, he abruptly hung up the phone and said to us, ‘they don’t know you.’ We were shocked and made him call our friends again. My boyfriend spoke with our friends explaining what was going on for at least three minutes, the manager got back on the phone and abruptly hung up telling us again, ‘they don’t know you.’ I was very confused and scared at this point. I still don’t understand how we could have a three minute conversation with someone who doesn’t know us. I felt the manager was taking advantage of the language barrier and lied to us.
The manager then said the only way he would consider our story was if his bell-hop saw us come in with our luggage. And when asked the bell-hop said he had not seen us enter with our luggage, which was not a shock. The manager also said he would check his security cameras, which he did NOT do. I signed the credit slip under duress. I feared if I did not sign the slip, the resort will still call the cops. Now I am stuck paying the bill with my credit card company because I signed the slip, even though it was signed under duress.
I wouldn't recommend this horrible place to my worst enemy. Don't stay there! I may be out my $247; however, I get some comfort knowing my story may deter one person from staying at Barcelo, the resort will loose more than the $247 they EXTORTED from me!!
FYI: Go to Playa del Carmen....it was FANTASTIC :)

Food very good provided you stick to mexican. If you eat 'American' you will come home the size of a barrel. The staff are very caring and cannot do enough for you. However, sun beds appear to be at a premium due to fellow guests requiring two each. Rumour had it that our American cousins had bagged them all by 5am and by 7am they were all taken. It was interesting to note that several were not occupied all day. This greed was also typified by the amount of food piled on plates. I suppose they have to feel they are getting their moneys worth. Thank goodness for English reserve. But that is enough of my rant. On the subject of trips out. We visited Chichen Itza, of course, o0n an organised tour. If I did this again I would hire a car and buy a good guide book, our guide was not able to tell us much about the site, indeed he spent most of the time telling us appalling jokes. I was dying to break away to do my own thing.
Cozumel. I expected a beautiful tropical paradise but no it was more like Rhyl. We were pestered by hard sell all the time. We ended up getting the next boat back. Xcaret. A very pleasant day out with a delicious lunch. Bird sanctuary just outside Playa del Carmen. A pleasant morning out and within walking distance of the hotel, a few interesting Mayan ruins along the way.

I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. I would advise you not to go there.
Me and my partner were so looking foward to going.
The lagoon side was so noisy we got put with all the students so we complained and were moved after 3 nights. It was still no better with generators humming 24/7 the ice machine on the landing outside rattled all night and the air con was aslo noisy, so there was not time to relax.
The phone rang every other day and no one spoke, we had a member of staff enter our room while we were sleeping at 1am. The majority of the staff were very unhelpful.
We were also victims of a crime, dont know if can say anything about that thou, and we found out we were not alone.
The food was good about the only thing that was.

I went here with my parents in 2007 and i can honestly say it has been one of the loveliest holidays i have ever been on, the hotel is beautiful, the staff are polite friendly and extremely helpful... theres a huge choice of food and the waiters try their best to help out whenever necessary....
When i went there were monkeys up in the trees that were highly entertaining, the hotel is set almost inside a jungle kind of theme and i still think of it from time to time now....
I havent been on a holiday that has lived up to the expectations of any of the iberostar hotels i have stayed in (including cuba, brazil and this one) I can honestly say out of the three this is by far the best.....
I would return within a heart beat
If you are thinking of booking this resort i suggest you go ahead with it... I always look at holiday reviews and i think there have been some comments about this hotel that would have put me off going and i just want to get my point across that it was magnificent and i disagree with all the negative comments about the hotel....
One of the comments was about the orange walls, i thought they gave the hotel a real mexican/caribbean feel which was really welcoming....
Enjoy your holiday!!!
