Episkopiana Hotel Reviews
" don't know how relevent this will be... "
Submitted By: Mr Jp Barrett
don't know how relevent this will be to your readers, as i've never stayed at the episkopiana, however i did live next door to it for a couple of years and know its facilities, its location and the location of the nearest night life etc quite well.
Firstly some reviews have had a go at the football teams that stay there, as the hotel prides its self as a sports training hotel you might expect this, but only really happens during winter breaks for the adult teams (seen quiet a few championship teams out 'bonding') and around autumn/easter for the youth teams, other times are usually too expensive or quickly booked up to organise a 'tour' to stay there, also the training pitches are about 1km away from the hotel in the local village..
The next point is the hotel, which is industry standard, 4 star fare, nice rooms, pools etc, a very nice relaxing place where when you sit on your balcony/veranda overlooking the pool (6kms from beach) you don't get blasted by every disco trying to out do the others like on the llimasol strip. The drinks are a bit pricey and i'm sure, sometimes there are weddings on in the hotel and they close off certain bars from guests, but that happens at all the hotels especially the ones back in the uk, also the weddings usually take place on a saturday, so you can have an early night, go outside the confines of the hotel (its not AI so no benidorm type scenario where you have to drink the bar dry each night to fully get your money's worth), or smooth in with the family of the happy couple and enjoy a celebration like only the cypriots know how to.
The location of the hotel is quite remote its about 14km from the centre of llimasol and about 60km from paphos. it is situated on the north edge of Episkopi village just off the main paphos - larnaca motorway (road noise is not a problem!) The nearest beach is curium 6km away, one of the best on the island which is next to the ancient ruins andamplitheatre. about 6 kms on the old road to llimasol is kolossi castle (cyprus is full of many ancient and historical sights, please google them otherwise this old mans ramblings will never end!!). The village of episkopi has grown and continues to do (i probably wouldn't recognise a lot of the new buildings) but is not ayia napa if you want that try 100kms east, llimasol is only 15 mins away if you crave nightclubs and some good resturants, followed by dancin/kareoke. if you take your time to look round the village you will notice a couple of good bars and resturants. its not as a previos reviewer said 45 mins away, even after way too much keo i could make it past the hotel to my bed in 15. The hotel is situated on the link road between the motorway and the old main southern link road, this road run along the eastern edge of the village, so following it to the bottom is the long route (in fact if you follow the road until it gets to a tee junction about 200m to the left is the village of erimi and a bar called the bucaneer (often live music). so to get to the village centre, go on to the road turn right down the hill and take the next road right and just follow you nose, you'll soon find the EPI TAVERN and the episokpi resturant opposite, the tavern is a small friendly bar with the staff ready to look after you, the resturant is a mixture of inside seating, covered or eveyones summer favorite courtyard seating and is what you expect (and also makes you feel you've discovered it yourself). A little futher a field is the epi pub (notice a trend they're proud of their village) but usually refered to as Stephs pub, its located on the old southern link road in the middle of the village. here steph and her husband george look after a wide range of locals, ex pats and some very well behaved ladies and gentlemen from the british bases. if you want to find out where to go, what to do and how much some one in the bar will give you an answer (usually a right one!) Also george is a taxi driver so he can quote you on rates to and from rather than pay meter fares (he can also get you a hire car on a day by day basis if you need one) and you get discounts from the pub back to your hotel. Don't want to keep going on about the pub but, beer cheap (half price of town/hotel) large tv for football/wimbledon but not like some costa brit pubs (its on for match them back to music etc). Also supermarkets opposite and in village and a number of tabacs and snack bars/resturants.
Overall the hotel is a nice get away place with a small but friendly village a short walk away where there are good resturants a couple of bars and supermarkets. if you want a 4 star hotel in the middle of llimasol go for large but impersonal hotels in the eastern side or Miramare right in the middle, but if you want a break where with a little walk you can still have a great time the episkopiana aint too bad, especially if you do get a car for a couple of days to see the sights.

" We booked this holiday as a last... "
Submitted By: Mrs F Scarrott
We booked this holiday as a last minute holiday a week before departure, at end of July 2006. The holiday cost £1800 for 2 adults and 2 teenage children for 2 weeks. We picked this hotel specifically because of its location having lived in Cyprus previously and knew how remote it would be. My advice to anyone wanting to explore a bit is to hire a car it is a long walk into the village and back from the hotel.
As a family wanting to explore the hotel was fine for us although our holiday was made a complete misery by the youth football team from England that was at the hotel for the complete duration of our stay. They were totally ignorant to those of us who had paid for a holiday at the hotel and around the pool they were a nightmare to say the least and during the afternoon and into the evening they were poorly supervised and ran riot round the hotel. For this reason alone I have given this hotel a poor rating. The staff were very friendly and we didn't have any problems with them. We had paid for a family suite but found ourselves in one small room which was quite cramped and as we had no paperwork (it arrived after we had got home) we couldn't prove it.
A good day out is the waterpark outside Limassol, we had the most fantastic time and it is worth a visit. A few places to eat out - Chris's kebab at the Akrotiri strip, also the second restaurant along on curium beach (can't remember the name). A bus does go from the hotel down to the beach so if you have no transport take advantage of it.
I would not return to this hotel again unless there was a guarantee of no youth teams staying during my stay. I would like to just add there was also another youth football team from Israel for our second week and they were impeccably behaved and well supervised - maybe our youth team supervisors should take a leaf out of their book.

" When we arrived at the Episkopiana... "
Submitted By: Mrs J Hutchinson
When we arrived at the Episkopiana Hotel it all looked very impressive. We checked in at reception and the receptionist did not speak very good English. The receptionist gave us our room key that was it. I had to ask her about meal times and the safe.
The room was nice and comfortable. We had a pool side few from our balcony. Around the pool was very quite.
We went down for our evening meal and the food was very well presented but it was luke warm. For the children it was not a very good selection. After dinner my family and I decided to go for a walk to see if there was any pubs, taverns or shops nearby. After walking up the road and down the road in the dark for about 45 minutes we discovered how isolated the hotel was.
We decided to go back to the hotel and see what entertainment was on there. There was absolutely none. We waited to see if other people would arrive but this did not happen. We went up to our room at 9.30pm (7.30pm at home) and went to bed. Panic started to set in at this stage.
There was a pool side bar that was not stocked if you went up for a drink they had to go into the hotel to get it and then they brought it out in glass glasses. If you bought a bottle of water it was even in a glass bottle (why not plastic). It was inevitable that some glasses would get broke from time to time, this is not a good idea at the side of a pool when toddlers and people are walking about on there bear feet.
The second night was still quite similar to the first. The following day at the pool we got talking to a few of the other guests. One of the families invited us along with them to a nearby tavern. It was a good 30 minute walk away through the streets. It cost 5 Cypriot pounds to get back to the hotel.
I don't think I would go back there but if I did I would make sure I took my driving license and plenty of money as I did find it expensive due to the isolation of the hotel. Because of the people we met we had a great holiday and I was so glad about that.

" Just returned from our 2 weeks at... "

Just returned from our 2 weeks at Episkopiana. Having read previous reviews, we were somewhat apprehensive as to the standard of this hotel!
I agree with some comments, the hotel is quite remote and you do need a car unless you are wanting a real “cop out” break by the pool or beach(transport provided.) HOWEVER,ON THE PLUS SIDE, should a quiet hotel with nice rooms, reasonable food ,lovely chef very eager to please and extremely friendly restaurant/bar staff appeal, then I think the Episkopiana might suit you.
My standards are high and whilst I accept that the Episkopiana at the moment is a 3 rather than 4 star hotel, the excellent staff really made up the difference!
Well done all of you and thank you, hope to see you all again.

Submitted By: Mrs J E Clewley
I had read some reviews about this hotel before I went most commented that the food and accommodation were good however the location was not.
I must say I loved where the hotel was situated, it overlooks Kourium Bay and it's so peaceful, further down in the village there are some small tavernas and coffee shops there is even some large bars, but you really do need transport to get down there, it's ok walking down, however after a few beers the walk back is a struggle.
The staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful, never were they too busy to find time to help you.
The food was excellent especially the Lamb cooked in spinach, some times there wasn’t a lot of selection but one word to the chef and he would get you anything you required within minutes.
I stayed at Episkopiana with my sister, her husband and child also I took with me my two children, I had read from a previous review this hotel was strictly for the over 50's I totally disagree it was a hotel of mixed ages we were all under 40 and we had a fantastic time I will definitely go again.
" This holiday cost us £886.00 for two... "
Submitted By: Mrs S Tyson
This holiday cost us £886.00 for two for one week and was the worst weeks holiday I have ever had in Cyprus. Our room had to be treated for ants, electrical wires showing from the light fitting, broken panel off front of sink, shower fitment broken and rusty old broken toilet roll holder in bathroom.
The food was more times than not cold-warm rather than hot and nothing cold was not chilled, the flies ate more than we did over the week.
The children sitting at the bar or running all over the hotel playing hit, causing chaos, did so because there were no child related facilities available to occupy them in the evenings.
I can only re-iterate what previous people have said in that the staff also were not very helpful.
Two families from our travel company were moved hotels during the week due to the unacceptability of the service provided. Every day our Olympic rep filled out official report forms from unsatisfied customers unfortunately the Olympic Holiday company have not been so helpful with dealing with my five pages of complaints.
I feel this hotel does not deserve a four star rating and does not do Cyprus any justice in having four stars because if that happened to be my first holiday in Cyprus I would never venture there again. I have been to Cyprus frequently so am aware of what they can offer.
Unfortunately I have no positive comments to say on this hotel

" Our holiday in Cyprus in the... "
Submitted By: Mrs C Garnett
Our holiday in Cyprus in the Episkopiana Hotel was OK, considering what we paid - £385 for 2 weeks half board.
The location of the hotel is very remote and there is no local bus service. There are a few bars and tavernas in the village but they are at least a 25 minute walk away!! Car hire is an absolute must.
The hotel itself is fine, the rooms are pleasant and most importantly they were clean and maid service is very good.
The pool area was OK and kept clean and tidy.
The sports centre is not as described in the brochure. The gym is not air conditioned - it was impossible to have a workout in there. The swimming pool was not heated and the sauna was never turned on. We did try the Jacuzzi once, but promptly got out when we realised we were sharing it with a small lizard.
The food was edible but not much variation and sometimes cold - and believe it or not there was no chips!!
The service in the bar and restaurant was poor, due to lack of staff. Most nights the bar ran out of glasses.
The staff were not very friendly and sometimes quite rude.
During our stay there were two private parties organised by the hotel - as the restaurant is used for the catering the other hotel guests were told that their evening meal would be served outside.
Anyone thinking of booking a holiday at this hotel should also be aware that it is used by youth football teams for their out of season training so it is highly likely that there will be scores of young footballers around the hotel. During our two weeks there were two Russian teams and one English team of very young noisy boys.
The hotel does not deserve its 4* rating
On the whole we got what we paid for!!

If you are younger than 50 then this hotel is not for you, I spent 1 week there in Sept, the weather was gorgeous and the room was ok but at dinner we had to move tables as there was ants all over the one we were sitting at dinner wasn’t that good was warm not hot.

There is no where around to visit the hotel is in the middle of no where if you want to visit the bay you have to wait for the hotel bus (feels like its gonna break down) that on one day left us at the beach and we had to walk nearly an hour to get back to our hotel good job we knew the way also Limassol is about 10 miles away which you have to order a cab to get there and then its nothing special so not really anything positive to say about this hotel except the weather was good and the holiday rep was absolute rubbish I'm sure she realised we ever existed.

" This was the worst holiday I have... "
Submitted By: M Hambuger
This was the worst holiday I have ever been on and my family and I go on holiday about three times a year and none have been as bad as this one.
Before I went I was never told that I was going to be used a guinea pig. So when we arrived the hotel weren’t ready for us.
The staff are rude and lazy. The pool area was dirty. The pool was only cleaned once a week and the pool boy poured chemicals straight in to the pool water. The food was covered in flies and other insects and was always cold as the equipment was old and could not keep it warm. There are thousands of mental Russian children running around the hotel unsupervised as they use t as a campsite all year round.
There is so much more that I cannot explain but to tell it to you briefly this is not a 4 star hotel it isn’t even a 2 star hotel but it would also be an insult to a 1 star hotel.
WARNING! DO NOT COME TO THIS HOTEL IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A NORMAL HOTEL!

We stayed at this hotel last year ,it was the worst holiday we ever had ,the room was not very clean ,there was dirt on the curtains and big stains on the carpet ,and pigeon poo outside all week on the balcony ,the food was the same more or less every night.

Every one was complaining who was there ,there was no entertainment on ,NEVER, they had wedding and functions on, and we were told we couldn’t go outside that night ,which happened twice ,there was only two pubs in the area and they were 25minutes away ,the rep was a waste of space didn’t give a hoot when told ,mind you never saw her, I think once the whole week, good job we didn’t have any kids ,because there was nothing for them to do ,the whole of the holiday was **** ,boring ,and the staff were so miserable too.

If the holiday was offered for 100 pounds a week full board I would never go again , if you want a good enjoyable holiday ,then don’t go here ,you will come back depressed.

Pro's - the staff were friendly and ready to please. The outside pool was well maintained. Maid service was good. AC worked well.
Con's - We had an ant infestation in our room and a couple that we met had a mosquito infestigation in their room. Our balcony had a corner siding which was covered in Pigeon's mess. Lack of staff - 4 people to be seen at breakfast time (2 waitors, 1 Receptionist, 1 Maid); Lunch (1 Maintenance man, 1 Receptionist, 1 bar man who doubled as a cook); Evening meal (2 Waitors, 1 x Receptionist, 1 Bar man). There was no Pool bar service, in fact those people sitting around the pool had to go find a member of staff to buy and order food or drink. Due to lack of staff you had to carry drinks yourself. No Laundry or Dry cleaning service. Indoor Swimming pool, Sports Centre, Massage room and Sauna could not be used because the door to the Sports Centre was always locked. We 'visited' the Sports Centre when it was being used by a Footballer's overnight stay (Sunday), and mould could be seen at the bottom of the Indoor pool. Upon request to use these facilities we were told that there were insufficient staff to man the building and that "it was out of season", except this hotel takes bookings all year round! The food was very repetitive, cold majority of the time, had very limited menu choice and certainly not a representation of their website. After 'special events' we were offered a small platter of fruit for dinner (apples and bananas) after the Footballer's stay (they had 'special' dietary needs we were informed except this did not stop them from eating our food) and a mixed fruit salad after a Christening function (oranges, apples grapes & melon). Other than these two occasions, it was chocolate cake and grapes, or chocolate cake, creme caramel and melon ie very limited choice and small portions. Certainly no A la Carte restaurant. The only entertainment on offer was games machines at £1 each or a quiz games machine around the Dyonysos Bar. The Hylates Coffee Bar was used for Breakfast and Dinner. No Cafeteria was to be seen nor was there a Mini Market unless you wanted to buy football equipment because this is all that was on sale. There was no children's playground on the site or close by. There was no rental cycles or motorbikes. Car rental could be booked through the Olympic Rep providing you received your Visitor welcomes packs some of which were not distributed and therefore some people missed out. We also had to chase our Olympic Customer Service questionnaire as one was not distributed with the Welcome pack. You had to book the Shuttle Service in advance and on one occasion were forgotten to be collected. Taxi service had to be booked a day prior to guarantee that one would be available. When we complained to the Rep, we were informed that the hotel takes a lot of outside bookings themselves hence the reason for the Footballer's overnight stay, two Christenings and a Birthday Party over the weekend. Whilst these celebrations were taking place, we and other holiday visitors were made to feel very insignificant and much of the hotel was restricted for use. Nine Army Base Engineers deployed until the end of October said it was the worse accommodation that they had stayed in whilst working in Cyprus. One couple was moved to another hotel as it was deemed unsuitable for a disabled person. Other than ramps provided on the ground floor, a wheelchair would not fit in the lift, a disabled person could not have a shower as all rooms have showers over baths, and both swimming pools are unsuitable by entrance and exit design. This was a Cancellation holiday for my husband and I that we took up because the hotel sounded very reasonable at £814.00 for a week. We were informed that the hotel has a 3*+ rating because of the sports facilities on offer and not the hotel facilities. I must emphasise this and suggest people remember this comment because seeing as majority of the Sports facilities were unavailable for use throughout our stay, I would not consider this hotel value for money. Therefore I would not recommend this hotel and I am struggling to give an overall rating of 4.
