My partner and I visited Zante in September 2006 and stayed at the Admirals Hotel. We booked it through Thomas Cook as I had some vouchers for there and just wanted a cheap week away from the dreary UK.
Upon arrival we were allocated to our room on the 2nd floor, upon entry we found that it was already occupied by a family who were not due to leave! Not a good start, the manager was sympathetic and arranged alternative accommodation and a complimentary beer to make up for this.
Apart from the power cut for a few hours towards the end of the week this was the only problem we had there as we literally used it just to sleep and shower in. The hotel is small but there are plenty of sunloungers and there seemed a nice friendly atmosphere around the complex.
We made a pact to try different bars and restaurants each day and sampled either food or Alcohol in nearly all in the area.
The best bar we found was probably the Ark, this was the only place we visited more than once. George and Nik were excellent entertainers and get to know visitors personally straight away. The free red vodka shots every time there was a goal in the Footy matches and setting the bar on fire were two of the main highlights.
Plenty of good restaurants but most seemed to charge for the supposedly complimentary bread which at first we found cheeky but soon got used to. We tended to take a long walk down the main stretch and check out the specials while having a few beers in the day then returning to a restaurant that took our fancy in the evening.
Only went on the beach twice and didn’t stay long but was very narrow in most parts and far from the best we have been on (Expensive charges for the loungers).
The shipwreck trip was okay and got us out for half a day but was not as good as I thought it would be.
A good few hours out for couples or families is at the bowling centre in the middle of Tsivilli. For a few quid you get games of 10 pin bowling, Pool, Air Hockey and Table Football and they also serve drinks and good sized snacks like burger and chips etc.
Overall I give the holiday 6/10, a week was plenty but achieved we wanted, a cheap holiday away in the sun and could be as relaxing or lively as we wanted it to be.

Zante town was a very lively place lots of good eating places, pub, clubs and shops
As for the hotel brilliant. Kitchen not very big rooms decent size not very much clothing space. Toilet/shower room big enough.
Boat trips brilliant lots to do for families overall brill holiday the pool does tend to get very packed by 12ish 10 is the best time to get your towels on sun beds.

Overall our holiday was a disappointment. We spent lots of money for this it was not a cheap offer holiday and spent even more while there. The hotel itself was very clean and the cleaners were very hard working.
The reception staff were very unfriendly....it costs nothing to smile once in awhile. The pool was very small and the baby pool even smaller. By about four pm both pools were cloudy and murky....ideal for infections. The reps were very unprofessional but the teenagers appear to love them. Not a good place to stay if you have very young children as some of the teenagers run wild with their parents looking on. We would not go back to this hotel but Zante itself is beautiful and the beaches and sea out of this world.
The night life was good and not to rowdy some of the waiters were however very unfriendly but who can blame them with teenagers running riot through their streets. Overall we thought we paid much to much for this holiday and the tour operator should have informed us about the noise we were going to experience with this hotel, as we had actually asked for a quite place to stay.

Hotel absolutely spotless, rooms cleaned daily, VERY clean! Staff friendly, as were locals. Pool kept clean, as well as sun bathing area. Restaurants good, would recommend fajitas in Castaways roof top restaurant!
Nightlife pretty good, lots of pubs with dance floors, music excellent, lots of old tunes! Go to Magic Mushroom pub at about 11.30pm to see a cool 'bar on fire' display by barman! Lots to do, water sports etc... Can hire scooter/quad/buggie/car, tour operator recommended we did not hire scooters. Roads pretty poor condition.
Excellent holiday, will definitely go back after new airport is open. Current airport very small (be prepared to wait over an hour for your luggage to come off plane!)

When we arrived, took one look at the room which was on the ground floor looking at the back of the cafe and pool toilets, 1st impressions weren’t too good.
The staff were very helpful and the following morning after checkout we were moved to a much better room on the 1st floor. Rooms kept quite clean.
Considering we were a family with a 5 yr old and a 10mth old baby we had a very enjoyable stay (nice clean pool) and no tummy upsets.
We hired a jeep for 3 days and toured the island we would highly recommend this! We prebooked hire jeep but we would have got it cheaper if we had just done it when we got there.
Argassi is more suited to those preferring a quite holiday, not an awful lot going on in the evening!
One warning I would give to parents with children is beware of street vendors henna tattoo’s if they don’t use a special pen they may be mixing product with chemical which blistered my sons arm, not serious but he was quite upset about losing his scorpion tattoo!
Overall an enjoyable short break which was pleasant enough to return to.
