A great family holiday
We stayed at the Garden Village for the first time in August 2003 with our two small children and their grandparents and loved it so much we visited for another 2 weeks in August 2005. Carol, her lovely family and all the team are the perfect hosts who can't do enough for you and are always on hand with advice and assistance at any time of the day. We've stayed in numerous other places throughout Greece but never found such pleasant, relaxing and comfortable accommodation. So much so that we are returning for our third trip in August this year. No doubt we'll see other familiar faces as many others return time after time. The accommodation itself stands head and shoulders above others we've visited, the gardens and pool area being particularly well kept. With only a fairly small number of rooms the poolside bar never gets too busy and there's always a friendly face to welcome you. Keep up the good work Carol, can't wait to see you all again very soon.
love it, love it, love it!!!!!!
Well, having not long returned from my 2nd stay at Garden Village all I can say is, when can i go back! My 3 year old son and I returned this summer for 2 weeks after spending 2 weeks there last summer. Being very particular when it comes to my annual summer holiday (which we all look forward to, especially with our kids) i will, without doubt return again next year and may even return back later in the season for my "fix". Firstly its probably the most accomodating and relaxing place in Kalamaki. Carol and her family make people feel so very welcome its hard not to feel that you are family yourself. The apartments are immaculate, the food is excellent, the staff are great, the beach is 10 mins away. if like me your idea of a holiday is very relaxing and very enjoyable but with all amenities close by, you cant go wrong. We wont go anywhere else.
Fantastic place to stay!
Our party of seven, ranging from 2 to 70 years, stayed at the Garden Village for a week at the end of June , start of July , 2007. It was a fantastic place to stay hidden away off the main Kalamaki road. A very quiet complex with good spacious accomodation, a lovely pool and beautiful gardens. The bar area is open from 9am to 1am, from which we enjoyed delicious food, ice cold drinks and brilliant cocktails! What stood out for us was the way Carol, the owner and her staff looked after you. Carol asked for all our names on arrival and didn't forget them all week! She was always there to assist you, from recommending places to eat out (Zepos near the beach was good), cooking your breakfast, booking a cab, to showing my daughter how to do a Greek dance! The Garden Village is without doubt a lovely place to stay. 10 out of 10 Carol!
A wonderful oasis!
We have been to this wonderful place a few times over recent years, both with our two children and as a couple. We have always found the accomodation, staff and service to be of the highest quality. There are not many apartments or studios that have fresh flowers in them and all of the homely touches that take your stay to a higher level! Carol (the owner) is endlessly helpful and pleasant - always on hand to give advice, make reservations and even give a little first aid. We will certainly visit Garden Village again and spend a couple of weeks in this oasis of calm and welcome.
Beyond the call of duty
Our stay at the Garden Village was superb. I cannot thank Carol enough for the warm welcome, and our week was perfect. I enjoyed my 26th birthday whilst there (beginning of june) and was grateful to have found such a beautiful place to stay. I am horrified to read reports from others who had a bad experience, it must have been awful for them, but we had no trouble whatsoever. The complex is a hidden gem, not even signposted from the main road. The grounds and gardens are gloriously maintained, the service from the staff was excellent, and Carol often went beyond the call of duty for her guests. She certainly rates as a brilliant hotelier in my book. The island is small, the people are friendly, and it is easy to escape the crowds and find your own piece of heaven.
Basic, cold at night!!
Having booked through an agent we were disappointed that the holiday recommended did not suit us. Kalamaki is like a Greek version of Blackpool, although we did find one restaurant in the resort that served good Greek food. Hire a car and go up in the hills and the island is beautiful - the new growth on the trees at this time of year gives a Spring-like appearance and the villages off the beaten track gave us a feeling of being in Greece at last. The sunsets on the West coast are spectacular. Having said that, October is not the time to go as the island effectively 'shuts' - no sailing or boat trips and a very end of season atmosphere everywhere. Our accommodation at Garden Village was pretty basic and I would not recommend it for comfort. But it was spacious. The shower - when there was hot water - was unpleasant due to mould on the curtain and ropey plumbing. The nights in October are cold and we shivered a bit (climbed into bed!).
Very nice but basic
The Garden Village is a very attractive looking set of apartments in a lovely setting. We read a lot of reviews of the apartments before we booked and our expectations were quite high, Unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the reviews. The rooms were very basic and the shower was the worst one we have ever had, it was tiny and the shower curtain was covered in mould. We spoke to other couples and they all complained about the shower and lack of comfort so it wasn't just us. The walls were so thin that we could hear the people next door snoring! We ate out all the time which was just as well it would not have been easy to cook in the small oven and hob which sat on top of the worktop. Kalamaki itself is purely a tourist resort, full of English type pubs with all day English breakfasts. Saying that there are some very nice restaurants where we had some lovely Greek meals, but the place itself is more Blackpool than traditional Greek. If you want the picture postcard Greece, I'm afraid you won't find it in Kalamaki.
a little gem
A warm welcome the minute we arrived, for our 2 weeks stay here. Nothings too much trouble for Carol and Emma. The studio we stayed in were in the gardens with lovely flowers, a fusion of colour. Pool was lovely and well layed out, spent many days in it. Very rustic buildings, beautiful stonework, it really is a hidden gem of a place to stay. We had a wonderful holiday here and everything is so close to hand.
very enjoyable holiday
We stayed at Garden village apartments in Kalamaki last year in May. The minute we got off the coach we were greeted by Carol and felt immediately at home. The apartments and site were very pretty, quiet and clean, close to the restaurants and bars and a 5-10 min walk to the beach. It was the little touches that made the difference: for example flowers in the rooms and on the tables in the bar area, numerous books and games in the reception to borrow. The main thing that struck us was that Carol and her staff greeted everyone by name and this led to a very friendly, family atmosphere in the bar in the evenings. We would definitely go again. Kalamaki is a reasonable place to stay, the restaurants try too hard to provide what they imagine the British tourist wants but we did have some lovely Greek meals. Book excursions with one of the many tour operators on the main road in kalamaki, not through your travel rep, saves lots of money and the coaches are much better.
Great Apartments, Zakynthos limited
The Garden Village Apartments are superb. Carol , who owns and runs the small complex, and her staff look after everyone. That and its small size (12, 2 bedroom apartments and a similar number if 1 bedroom studios) makes for a really friendly atmosphere. We went with two children (9 and 15) who both quickly made friends with other guests and Carol's children; we all had a great time. The apartments and complex have everything that is needed and are well designed; attached photos demonstrate this I hope The complex is in a pretty quiet part of Kalamaki but still really close to a number of resaurants and shops. Kalamaki is built around tourism. The only slightly dissapointing part for us was that the island is a bit limited in places to go and see (but I guess we should have known that at the start as it is what the quide books say). If you want a beach and pool type holiday then this is a really good place to stay.
