Submitted By: Miss P SmithThe hotel is in the middle of nowhere. If you do get stuck at this hotel hire a car to take you as far away from it as possible (the far South of the island is beautiful).
I know hotels and apartments abroad aren’t meant to be much, but this was a joke. The room was dirty, cutlery and utensils in the kitchen for a self catering accommodation was far too basic, you could sit on the toilet and touch the bath, bidet and sink all at the same time. There were electrical wires hanging out of the walls.
Pool was empty – probably because it was so cold (very windy in March - not good for sitting on the beach).
Plenty of sun beds– again no-one was laying by the pool. I think most people took advantage of the free bus which took you down the road where there was a beach, restaurants and shops. Not a good place to go at night. We got followed and nearly mugged (lovely place).
Pool Bar - Closed
Mama Mia Restaurant - Closed
We used the gym/Jacuzzi’s – this was good but you had to pay to use these facilities.
The only good thing about Costa Tropical Apartments is that it is close to the airport. Only a 5 minute taxi drive, which costs a maximum of 10 Euros.
Overall = would not go back x

Submitted By: Mr S NicholsonThe hotel was clean, food ok, breakfast was better than evening meal.
Pool area is fabulous, so clean and quiet, infact hardly anyone there. You could get a bed any time, but no pool bar. No entertainment.
Mamma mias pizza shut, other restaurant shut. Same lady served in our restaurant all day.
After the painter finished work through the day he was barman until 9 pm, then left poor women had to run between both, or AI people just served themselves. It was hilarious, because of this it was such a talking point.
We met some nice people. If you want a quiet holiday this is it. You can walk into the resort lovely walk or bus in taxi only 3 e and only 10 from air port.
All the little shops and bars from previous years were closed, there is one Irish bar around corner that’s all.
They are building all over and it seems there will be more maybe next year.
Never know, might give it another go.

Submitted By: Mrs T NuttallThe hotel was excellent, not only clean but modern with a fantastic swimming pool, great for a base.
The room has a small kitchen area with kettle, toaster, and microwave in addition to the fridge and oven. We had a sea view (there where one or two cranes also in view) and also overlooked the swimming pool.
With regard to the food, for what we paid it was OK, most people on all inclusive complained because the snack bar was never open and the pizza place only opened at 5pm if at all!
The resort area is nonexistent consisting of an Irish Bar call Kavanaghs and a sports bar Mustang Sallys (fantastic food in the latter). The taxis into Caleta varied from 3 Euros to 3.50 but it was well worth the money.
One tip if you are thinking of booking this hotel is get a taxi from the airport as it is only about 15 mins away or if you are on a day flight, the bus stops right outside and is 1 euro 20 cents!

Submitted By: Miss E WildOk where do I start. This was a late deal and we booked 4 days before coming.
We went all inclusive, and the food was ok it wasn’t too repetitive. The staff were helpful but it took a long time for the staff to come and ask if you wanted something to drink. We had finished our meals before they even came over to the table and still didn’t ask if we wanted a refreshment, which we were a bit annoyed at.
The pool was nice and cleaned every day, the water was cold but it was nice when you wanted to cool down. We were also disappointed because on the website it said that the pool bar would be open, but it wasn’t. There were plenty of sunbeds around and there was never a day where we had to fight to get one.
The room we stayed in was ok but basic. The bar was good but for two days of the holiday they had ran out of vodka and beer too.
The actual place we stayed in was in the middle of nowhere, but a 20 min walk to the beach and even then there was hardly anything around.
Everywhere was so quiet and after doing a grand trip around the whole island we realised that the whole island has not much to offer and is very quiet.
It is a real shame that there is not much at Fuerteventura and if you are thinking of going here, then I would recommend that you stay at Costa Calma or Caleta de Fuste.
The holiday overall was okay but we wouldn’t visit here again.
" A taxi to the hotel from airport cost... "
Submitted By: Mrs R WhellerWe found the staff not to be over friendly, there was no entertainment, and the bar sometimes had no staff which we found annoying at times.
The weather that time of year was brilliant, part cloudy some days but the sun always managed to get through. We both came home with a good tan. Around 5 or 6 hours of sunshine a day, evenings were slightly cold so take a jacket with you.
There is a free bus that leaves the hotel at 9.00, 9.30, and 10.00 and so on to Caleta de fuste.
We also took a taxi into the resort which cost 3 Euro, excellent value. Check out Merlin cafe in Caleta de fuste, the waiter is very entertaining; you can get a full English breakfast for 4.50 euros’ and a cuppa. Best breakfast ever.
Outside the hotel was a building site, most of the island seemed that way. So we wouldn’t come back here again.
Cheap holiday so can't really complain as you get what you pay for.

Submitted By: Mr B HerbertThe hotel even had building work going on which wasn’t enjoyable!
The weather was quite hot for Sept but there were no umbrellas. No snack bars only a pizza place that did not open till 4 pm, food was limited selection and just a few drinks cups & drinks machines instead.
Only one member of staff on duty in the bars, pool bar was the only place for drinks in the day. Only 1 entertainment person for kids but we didn’t need that so were not too bothered.
Drinks were expensive. Our room was ok and quite clean suppose it did what was necessary for the price!
Was not a long walk from town, but like I say it was mainly just walking past rubble and building sites! Not the most enjoyable holiday but we went for the price and weather so can’t grade it any lower!

Submitted By: Mrs T MussellPool was lovely and food not too bad, especially if you like chips for breakfast!
Courtesy bus to beach was pretty reliable, and only about 8 mins drive.
Get a taxi from airport - only 10 Euros!
One down side was the flies... they were everywhere - the shop sold out of fly spray hmmm...
All in all a good break for the price!

Submitted By: Miss G TaylorIt is a little off the main track but is not far at all to the beach and main shopping centers. And as for entertainment there were lots! Emily was the entertainer who provided us with all sorts of activities. The pool was big and clean and you didn’t have to save a sun bed as there were plenty. The rooms were reasonable and comfy and we had a great view from our balcony. To top it off the weather was great and we met some lovely people, this hotel may not be 5 star but it was clean and the food was great.
We went all inclusive and we didn’t need to spend a penny in the hotel, there was lots of choice when it came to the food and as we had children with us it was great!
The people that give this hotel a really bad rating I think are over reacting! And just want a good moan. This hotel was great!
" Do not book this resort unless you... "
Submitted By: Miss G J LakelandAn hour and a half to walk down to the main resort (through rubble and building sites) or a 45 minute bus journey as the bus did not have a direct route. A distinct lack of the usual bars and restaurants and the general feeling of not being safe on the streets day or night. We flew home after four days of what should have been a two week holiday!
We have still not been contacted by the company we booked the hotel through despite emailing whilst on holiday.
" It is a nice, well appointed... "
Submitted By: Mrs M HollandThe staff were lovely and helpful, the food was delicious, but my son and I found 2 drawbacks.
Our first bedroom was directly over the bar/ karaoke area and our second was within sight and sound of FV 1 - the main highway - and you could almost recognise the pilots as they approached the near-by landing strip, so it was useless leaving the windows open. Naturally the planes land frequently. A car was hired and most of the roads are extremely fine, although the marking wasn't always in the centre of the road where it should have been. There is no beach near the block but a bus is run by the staff to the nearest beach. If you want to step out of the hotel, have a swim, lie on the sand, have another swim and another lie on the sand this is not the place for you. Naturally the weather is wonderful. We were told of the geometric progression in population numbers, but soon the island will be over-run with buildings.

Submitted By: Mrs P ClarkeThe weather was very hot but there were no umbrellas, dinning room was three sides glass so it was like a sauna. no snack bars only a pizza place that did not open till 4 pm, food was limited selection & while we were there was an infestation of flies but no food was covered, staff was spraying fly spray all over the pool bar area including where there was drinks cups & drinks machines. Very poor all inclusive plus all inclusive ended at 12 noon on day of departure, even if your flight was late at night.
nowhere near enough staff, only one member of staff on duty in the bars, pool bar was the only place for drinks in the day & that girl would have to do the fetching back & fore so a lot of the time we would not be able to get drinks, nobody came to cover for them to have lunch breaks, and the some at night only 1 bar staff with no breaks & often they would close before time so they could get out on time. Only 1 entertainment person so when she had her 1day off there was no entertainment.
Also drinks were expensive if you were self catering or half board. Our room was ok but a number of people asked to be moved for different reasons. This hotel was on holidays from hell this year before they changed the name, no surprise.
" Myself and my girlfriend returned... "
Submitted By: Mr J BannisterFirstly the rooms were really nice and kept very clean, and considering that we were all inclusive guests, we were still given our own kind of small house, with a kitchen and TV room and then an upstairs bedroom. It was a cosy little place, and the maids arrived every day to sweep up and provide us with new towels.
The pool is very good, we've been lucky enough to go to a 4* in Kos, and the pool there was salt water, however the one at Costa tropical is normal pool water, and is so refreshing after baking in the sun all day.
I must admit, I am usually very cautious about booking cheap AI holidays, mainly as the food is such an important factor as to whether you enjoy your holiday or not, however we found the food to be generally very good. The salads were always fresh, and the mains were more than enough. I'm not saying that every day we had amazing food, and yes French fries were a standard, but there was always an alternative option.
The entertainment was very good, and Emily the Animations rep was amazing at her job and always had a smile on her face. Considering she was on her own trying to entertain all the guests, she managed to get everyone involved and organised things such as waterpolo, football, quiz nights, rifle shooting...and many more.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel to those wishing to spend a quiet relaxing week in the sun, however if you prefer to have waiters around the pool taking drinks orders, or even a top class chef making fresh pasta in front of you, then you'll be disappointed and should have paid to go to a top hotel. For the value, this cant be beaten, enjoy your holiday!!
" We have just returned from a week... "
Submitted By: Miss S WilkinsonI would like to give a higher rating but when we arrived they gave us the key to our apartment, to only find that someone else was using it (good job we are honest people and didn’t steal anything!) The receptionist was very concerned, pleasant and helpful and moved us into a vacant apartment.
We got a maid come and clean everyday apart from a Wednesday and Sunday (they get two days off). We got clean towels but they never changed the bedding (unless they do it once a week?)
The apartment was basic and tidy, everything worked and the only two English channels on the TV were sky news and euro sport which I am glad to see the back of now!
We got a microwave and stove but no kettle. The beds were two singles pushed together which squeaked every time you turned over. The pool was big and cleaned regularly as well as the hallways.
I would recommend this as a good base hotel for somewhere to get showered and sleep. I wouldn’t like to stay all inclusive as there was no entertainment and there’s nothing else in the area to do without getting a taxi (3euros) to Caleta.
The overall holiday was nice for a quick cheap week away for relaxing. There are no nightclubs in the area and the main town of Caleta has some restaurants and bars but it is very quiet. There aren’t many shops although we did go to two big shopping centers which are just like international shops selling things you can buy at home for the same price. There aren’t any lucky lucky men and it was hard to find some novelty lighters.
The beaches are lovely and the weather was hot with a cool breeze so take plenty of sun cream! If you are going for two weeks I would recommend hiring a car so you can drive to different parts of the island otherwise you will get bored of going to Caleta everyday for the beach and every night for something to eat and drink. Don’t buy anything from the local supermarket at the hotel as it’s is a rip off!

At the time of writing this (JULY 09) I am reliably informed the hotel has undergone renovation in the winter months and reopened on 1st July 09.
It was decent enough last year so 2009 must be even better. Give it a try.
Oh yes, it IS in an out of the way area, but the short walk to Caleta is well worth it.
Advice: Fair bit of unfinished building work, but where hasn't?
Activities: Caleta - Legends, Tommy Nutters, Slowboat, El Capitans.
