" We have just returned from a week... "

We have just returned from a week self catering. After reading the reviews on here before we went I thought oh my God its going to be awful. But in fact I am pleased to say it was a nice hotel.

I would like to give a higher rating but when we arrived they gave us the key to our apartment, to only find that someone else was using it (good job we are honest people and didn’t steal anything!) The receptionist was very concerned, pleasant and helpful and moved us into a vacant apartment.

We got a maid come and clean everyday apart from a Wednesday and Sunday (they get two days off). We got clean towels but they never changed the bedding (unless they do it once a week?)

The apartment was basic and tidy, everything worked and the only two English channels on the TV were sky news and euro sport which I am glad to see the back of now!
We got a microwave and stove but no kettle. The beds were two singles pushed together which squeaked every time you turned over. The pool was big and cleaned regularly as well as the hallways.

I would recommend this as a good base hotel for somewhere to get showered and sleep. I wouldn’t like to stay all inclusive as there was no entertainment and there’s nothing else in the area to do without getting a taxi (3euros) to Caleta.

The overall holiday was nice for a quick cheap week away for relaxing. There are no nightclubs in the area and the main town of Caleta has some restaurants and bars but it is very quiet. There aren’t many shops although we did go to two big shopping centers which are just like international shops selling things you can buy at home for the same price. There aren’t any lucky lucky men and it was hard to find some novelty lighters.

The beaches are lovely and the weather was hot with a cool breeze so take plenty of sun cream! If you are going for two weeks I would recommend hiring a car so you can drive to different parts of the island otherwise you will get bored of going to Caleta everyday for the beach and every night for something to eat and drink. Don’t buy anything from the local supermarket at the hotel as it’s is a rip off!

" If your'e thinking of going to Costa... "

If your'e thinking of going to Costa Tropical apartments please read this first! I am being generous with a 1 rating. Our holiday was awful. We are 30 and have 4 children their ages are 8, 9, 11 and 13.

We went here all inclusive, big mistake! Pool bar was closed all the time and had been closed a long while. There was no entertainment although it was advertised daily on the board at reception. After all us guests challenged the staff they give all the kids 1 tub of used plastercene to share no joke! There was a play room but they would not open it at all (apparently work was being done in there by invisible work man, we asked for the toys to be brought out but were told No.

The snack bar, pizzeria was closed until late and only did pizza not any of the other snacks as advertised. Food was of a very poor standard the chef would at times have to help serve drinks as there was not many staff (restaurant was like a ghost town most of the time because most guests were going out paying for food elsewhere). Children’s play area consists of 1 small rusty slide. There were a couple of broken lights floating in the pool (still attached), pool was also dirty.

The staff mainly the manager were very unhelpful. The maintenance man, would of been a better manager he seemed to be the one who made all the decisions. The manager went away halfway through the week for some reason and put a temp manager in who didn’t have a clue either. The hotel was advertised as 2 key some brochures 3 keys it actually only has a 1 key when we asked the manager about this we were told local kids had stolen the other key, (ha ha) Manager turned comedian.

Every guest was trying to be moved but reps were charging them up to 400 euro, some were that desperate they paid this. One rep we spoke to was well aware of the problems with this hotel and couldn’t believe families had been sent there! The hotel was surrounded by a building site and constantly stunk of sewerage this was also a problem in the apartment leaking through the ceiling. It was also being used on an all inclusive basis by local builders.

A couple who were staying for 2 weeks paid 100 euro to fly home after 4 days when they were approached outside the hotel by a man trying to steal their money. That along with everything else topped it off for them. We tried to make the best out of it, but sitting in a **** hotel in the middle of nowhere without the entertainment we had already paid for made this unbearable. It certainly is a hotel from Hell or as some guest's called it Faulty Towers!

If you want a good holiday please don’t go to Costa tropical apartments, if you’re a workman looking for cheap digs I suggest you invest in a portable TV or radio. This certainly won’t be the only bad review you will read about this place I am certain of that every single guest there was very, very unhappy!

We have gone all inclusive a few times before this and loved it, now I would only do it again to some where I have already been. Costa tropical hotel from hell! Unfortunately the Best part of this holiday was flying home.

" WOW is right, The only reason why... "

WOW is right, The only reason why I’m not giving this place 10 is because we weren't on full comp so don't know how the food was, though we were told by 3 other couples that all meals they had were great and also because as we weren't on full comp it would have cost us £12 to play tennis which is quite steep.

It is obvious by reading the comments that were made back in 2004, that Costa Tropical has improved where ever it was lacking.

I stayed there with my partner for four nights all of the staff including the bar man that couldn't speak very good English were friendly, receptionists extremely helpful & knowledgeable.

Our room was spotless, furniture was modern/Spanish, very well decorated, hand painted ceramic light covers throughout.

In the four nights we were there house keeping came in twice (taking into consideration that we were there on a Sunday and Monday which was a public holiday), they cleaned the bathroom, put in fresh towels, changed the bedding and emptied bins, the rest of the time we saw them doing general areas, even picking up rugs in the lounge areas and sweeping underneath them. The whole hotel was beautifully decorated and spotless, including the pool and outdoor areas.

There was a resident entertainment & activities organiser that has admittedly just started called Johan (from Belgium) he was great every day of the week ALL day he had on sight activities - aerobics, French bowls, archery, air rifle shooting, table tennis, water sports etc then at night in the bar for entertainment he had discos, dart games, quizzes etc these are all great fun for adults and children.

I would certainly love to go back there again, especially as the area is growing so fast, in a couple of years time it will be booming, though it was not busy when we were there as it was only late April (not quite summer) we did meet about 5 other couples that we got along with very well and they all also agreed that they had a great time and will be going back again and those who have children, will be also bringing their children back next time.

I strongly recommend Costa Tropical to anyone.

Note: do not buy from the local super market though as she is a complete rip off merchant, go into the town of Caleta there’s lots of great shops, restaurants and bars.

" Contrary to the reviews further down... "

Contrary to the reviews further down this list I felt the need to add my opinion as I returned from this resort last night.

My daughter and I badly needed a break and this was an affordable week away to chill out in the sunshine.

We were met at the airport by our med hotels rep who showed us to a bus which transferred us to the hotel in around 5 minutes.

Once there Reuben on reception checked us in - his English was very good but became better the more we spoke to him. The reception area was very clean with a beautiful water feature and a lounge off it where they was a desk with internet access for all.

There is no porter service in this hotel but as I am recovering from a car accident and have an obvious limp we were offered the assistance of the maintenance man and a maid to get us to our room on the second floor.
The rooms were spotless as was the bedding and towels. The lounge diner was furnished in a lovely Spanish type style, dark pine table and chairs etc. The lamp shades are ceramic throughout the hotel - beautiful. The bathroom was clean (no sign of cockroaches) - although the bath was only half size.

There are two restaurant areas - the larger one caters for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the smaller one was a pizza restaurant.

The food was plentiful with many different choices - from salad to English cuisine with, surprisingly enough some Spanish choices. The pizzas were cooked to order and were gorgeous! There are two chefs - one of them, Anna was really pleasant and always acknowledged us (at last somewhere to practice my Spanish). The bar and restaurant manager, David, worked tirelessly to ensure we were fed and watered and the waiter, Alfredo, was a delight - his English was superb and he always had a smile for us.

The hotel manger was female and very pleasant indeed - from cups of tea to car hire and all with a smile.

The downside - if you can call it that was that there were very few people staying at the hotel and, for this reason, the animator had no choice but to shelve any entertainment - instead the guests were allowed to choose between themselves which activities to go for. My daughter won the rifle shooting and our team also won the quiz - great fun.

All in all I have to recommend this hotel - they have obviously cleaned up their act!!!!

" WOW, I had booked this place and then... "

WOW, I had booked this place and then I decided to read the reviews.. I thought “Oh my God!” its terrible. I decided that if it was that bad I could find another place and took funds accordingly. I went with my girlfriend, we are in our 30's and 40's. When we got out of the 7euro taxi from the airport we were met with a smiling receptionist and quickly booked in. We found our room and saw the lovely view of the sea and swimming pool with terrace. The room was clean and what I would expect from this level of accommodation. We checked the beds and the bedding to make sure they were not made of rough material (bedding was white new cotton/linen) or metal (beds were standard wood with 4 legs on coasters)!

We were self catering but everyone we spoke to who were on full board or all-inclusive said it was very good food.

The boiler for the hot water (taps and shower) packed up half way through our holiday so we immediately informed reception who immediately radioed Hector. Within an hour he was busy dismantling the boiler. When we returned a few hours later, the boiler had been replaced and was working perfectly. I wish the service in England was like this!

A taxi rank exists outside the apartments and we used this quite a bit to get into Caleta as they are so cheap (less than 3 euros without the tip) and never had to wait more than 10 minutes for one if they were not already waiting.

The Irish bar around the corner (Kananaghs) has all the usual stuff like sports TV and entertainment and very good cheap food although the cost of alcohol is a bit dearer than at home. We had a lovely relaxing time around the pool and never had to worry about people putting towels out to reserve beds. OK its not the height of the season but there were plenty of unused beds.

A great walk to Calletta every morning down the prom (had to find at first) will get you to Caleta in around 35 minutes and the coastal views are very nice.

ALL in all I will be returning to the Tropical apartments next year as I had a thoroughly relaxing break.

Please do not be put off. I know the apartment has undergone a change of ownership and management so maybe things are now stating to sort themselves out. This is a little GEM.

" Wonderful view from the balcony and... "

Wonderful view from the balcony and comfortable lounge area. The pools and gardens appeared clean and well kept.

The hotel staff were at the best cheeky but in general bemused and rude. The bar and pizza area lacked atmosphere and organisation. We were thankful that we had booked self catering accommodation as many of the guests appeared to be all inclusive and therefore had bought into the hotel experience which was severely lacking.

The beds are metal, army style and creaked even to lay on which resulted in our taking the mattresses into the lounge and sleeping on the floor, which was more comfortable and far quieter. The bathrooms and we saw two, were in great need of updating. Ours bath was covered in rust marks the tiling was uneven and dirty; having to ask for toilet roll halfway through the holiday was a little embarrassing too. The hot tap became too hot to touch once turned on and water was not available twice during the holiday. The other bathroom had a shower head but no holder.

The rooms were visited by the cleaner 5 times during the holiday, and the sheets were changed three times however neither floors nor surfaces appeared to have been touched and some of our furniture disappeared half way through the holiday also.

The staff either ignored you or made little attempt to help. The on site supermarket tried to stop me making a 22euro purchase as they were cleaning the floors, even though 3 local shoppers were purchasing items without problems. The male bar staff also ignored requests for drinks which could be put down to a language barrier but “dos San Miguel” or “dos Aqua por favor” should surely be simple enough to understand

This is a complex begging to be run efficiently, with staff in desperate need of customer service and management training. It has the potential to excel and has fantastic views and pools. We went out every day and every evening as the options within the complex and locally were limited at the best and unattractive in general.

The options within Caleta de Fuste were far more appealing I would advise avoiding Nuevo Horizonte and Costa Tropical unless you want a good view of the sea, and a thorough knowledge of the local taxi service.

" I have just come back from this hotel... "

I have just come back from this hotel with my husband and two friends.

I have never been to a hotel, which was so disgusting. The food was awful - repetitive, cold and tasteless.

The hotel was dirty, cleaning of the rooms and hotel was non-existent. We had to ask for clean towels and bedding. There were cockroaches, which the resident cats took great delight in playing with round the bar area, as well as in our room.
The courtesy bus turned up as and when, but also served the local residents, which meant we had difficulty getting on.

In fact, as I can go on and on, all I will say is if you’re thinking of going here DON’T

" I have just returned from the Oasis... "

I have just returned from the Oasis Tropical where I holidayed with my husband and 2 daughters aged 6 and 9. First time we had booked all inclusive , what a waste of money.

The restaurant was full of flies all over the food probably due to the skip outside and the windows having to be opened. The restaurant was not cleaned from the night before and therefore the flies were also attracted to what was left on the floor from the night before .The table clothes were sticky all the time. They kept running out of essentials like Knives and forks cups etc. and food!! They did not cater for children and due to this and the standards of Hygiene we had to eat out every day. The snack bar wasn’t any better the service was terrible only one person dealing with hundreds of people. It was also dirty and we did not get the free ice creams for the children until the last day of our holiday as they never had any.

No kids club until last day of holiday and that was only after people complained.

The pool was lovely but wasn’t cleaned regularly enough or properly and when they did clean it they started at 10 o’clock in the morning when people were trying to use the pool and sun beds.

There were only four Fixed Parasols which in a country which is so hot this is not enough!!

As for the rooms ours was not cleaned and we had no clean towels. We also had electric sockets hanging out of the walls. We booked an apartment for four people we had twin beds a sofa bed and a fold up bed. My husband had the fold up bed but it was broken so we reported it but he never got a new bed , he slept on the floor for a week.

The nearest beach was not within walking distance but a free bus was provided that was as long as you could get on it as it was only a mini bus. We got a taxi most of the time. The beach at Caleta de Fuste was lovely as was the town.

The staff at the oasis were not helpful nor HAPPY probably because there were not enough of them . I could go on as the place is a tip, but I am bored with thinking about it now.

My advice to anyone who has booked or is thinking of booking DONT!!!!
