Went for a week in Costa tropical in Antigua, Fuerteventura, but was very disappointed that the whole of Antigua is pretty much a building site!
The hotel even had building work going on which wasn’t enjoyable!
The weather was quite hot for Sept but there were no umbrellas. No snack bars only a pizza place that did not open till 4 pm, food was limited selection and just a few drinks cups & drinks machines instead.
Only one member of staff on duty in the bars, pool bar was the only place for drinks in the day. Only 1 entertainment person for kids but we didn’t need that so were not too bothered.
Drinks were expensive. Our room was ok and quite clean suppose it did what was necessary for the price!
Was not a long walk from town, but like I say it was mainly just walking past rubble and building sites! Not the most enjoyable holiday but we went for the price and weather so can’t grade it any lower!

If you are looking for a cheapy holiday this one is good!
Pool was lovely and food not too bad, especially if you like chips for breakfast!
Courtesy bus to beach was pretty reliable, and only about 8 mins drive.
Get a taxi from airport - only 10 Euros!
One down side was the flies... they were everywhere - the shop sold out of fly spray hmmm...
All in all a good break for the price!

I went to the hotel about 4 weeks ago and it was great! After reading the reviews I was a little nervous about the hotel but when I got there is was fab!
It is a little off the main track but is not far at all to the beach and main shopping centers. And as for entertainment there were lots! Emily was the entertainer who provided us with all sorts of activities. The pool was big and clean and you didn’t have to save a sun bed as there were plenty. The rooms were reasonable and comfy and we had a great view from our balcony. To top it off the weather was great and we met some lovely people, this hotel may not be 5 star but it was clean and the food was great.
We went all inclusive and we didn’t need to spend a penny in the hotel, there was lots of choice when it came to the food and as we had children with us it was great!
The people that give this hotel a really bad rating I think are over reacting! And just want a good moan. This hotel was great!

Do not book this resort unless you want to stay in a very scruffy area, in the middle of a building site and on the main landing flight path into Fuerteventura! We booked this hotel in good faith under the impression that it was in Caleta De Fuste. How wrong could we be!
An hour and a half to walk down to the main resort (through rubble and building sites) or a 45 minute bus journey as the bus did not have a direct route. A distinct lack of the usual bars and restaurants and the general feeling of not being safe on the streets day or night. We flew home after four days of what should have been a two week holiday!
We have still not been contacted by the company we booked the hotel through despite emailing whilst on holiday.

It is a nice, well appointed apartment system, but it is the wrong place. Fuerteventura ought now to be re-named as Building Site on Sea. There is absolutely nothing of interest in Nuevo Horizonte.
The staff were lovely and helpful, the food was delicious, but my son and I found 2 drawbacks.
Our first bedroom was directly over the bar/ karaoke area and our second was within sight and sound of FV 1 - the main highway - and you could almost recognise the pilots as they approached the near-by landing strip, so it was useless leaving the windows open. Naturally the planes land frequently. A car was hired and most of the roads are extremely fine, although the marking wasn't always in the centre of the road where it should have been. There is no beach near the block but a bus is run by the staff to the nearest beach. If you want to step out of the hotel, have a swim, lie on the sand, have another swim and another lie on the sand this is not the place for you. Naturally the weather is wonderful. We were told of the geometric progression in population numbers, but soon the island will be over-run with buildings.

Just returned from a week in Costa tropical in Antigua, the whole of Antigua is a building site & will be for the next year at least. Our hotel had building work going on, on three sides.
The weather was very hot but there were no umbrellas, dinning room was three sides glass so it was like a sauna. no snack bars only a pizza place that did not open till 4 pm, food was limited selection & while we were there was an infestation of flies but no food was covered, staff was spraying fly spray all over the pool bar area including where there was drinks cups & drinks machines. Very poor all inclusive plus all inclusive ended at 12 noon on day of departure, even if your flight was late at night.
nowhere near enough staff, only one member of staff on duty in the bars, pool bar was the only place for drinks in the day & that girl would have to do the fetching back & fore so a lot of the time we would not be able to get drinks, nobody came to cover for them to have lunch breaks, and the some at night only 1 bar staff with no breaks & often they would close before time so they could get out on time. Only 1 entertainment person so when she had her 1day off there was no entertainment.
Also drinks were expensive if you were self catering or half board. Our room was ok but a number of people asked to be moved for different reasons. This hotel was on holidays from hell this year before they changed the name, no surprise.

Myself and my girlfriend returned from a week at the Costa tropical and all that we can say is that the hotel has obviously improved things in the past few years. At first we read some of the reviews that slated it, but decided that it was too late to change things, and thank god we didn’t.
Firstly the rooms were really nice and kept very clean, and considering that we were all inclusive guests, we were still given our own kind of small house, with a kitchen and TV room and then an upstairs bedroom. It was a cosy little place, and the maids arrived every day to sweep up and provide us with new towels.
The pool is very good, we've been lucky enough to go to a 4* in Kos, and the pool there was salt water, however the one at Costa tropical is normal pool water, and is so refreshing after baking in the sun all day.
I must admit, I am usually very cautious about booking cheap AI holidays, mainly as the food is such an important factor as to whether you enjoy your holiday or not, however we found the food to be generally very good. The salads were always fresh, and the mains were more than enough. I'm not saying that every day we had amazing food, and yes French fries were a standard, but there was always an alternative option.
The entertainment was very good, and Emily the Animations rep was amazing at her job and always had a smile on her face. Considering she was on her own trying to entertain all the guests, she managed to get everyone involved and organised things such as waterpolo, football, quiz nights, rifle shooting...and many more.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel to those wishing to spend a quiet relaxing week in the sun, however if you prefer to have waiters around the pool taking drinks orders, or even a top class chef making fresh pasta in front of you, then you'll be disappointed and should have paid to go to a top hotel. For the value, this cant be beaten, enjoy your holiday!!

We have just returned from a week self catering. After reading the reviews on here before we went I thought oh my God its going to be awful. But in fact I am pleased to say it was a nice hotel.
I would like to give a higher rating but when we arrived they gave us the key to our apartment, to only find that someone else was using it (good job we are honest people and didn’t steal anything!) The receptionist was very concerned, pleasant and helpful and moved us into a vacant apartment.
We got a maid come and clean everyday apart from a Wednesday and Sunday (they get two days off). We got clean towels but they never changed the bedding (unless they do it once a week?)
The apartment was basic and tidy, everything worked and the only two English channels on the TV were sky news and euro sport which I am glad to see the back of now!
We got a microwave and stove but no kettle. The beds were two singles pushed together which squeaked every time you turned over. The pool was big and cleaned regularly as well as the hallways.
I would recommend this as a good base hotel for somewhere to get showered and sleep. I wouldn’t like to stay all inclusive as there was no entertainment and there’s nothing else in the area to do without getting a taxi (3euros) to Caleta.
The overall holiday was nice for a quick cheap week away for relaxing. There are no nightclubs in the area and the main town of Caleta has some restaurants and bars but it is very quiet. There aren’t many shops although we did go to two big shopping centers which are just like international shops selling things you can buy at home for the same price. There aren’t any lucky lucky men and it was hard to find some novelty lighters.
The beaches are lovely and the weather was hot with a cool breeze so take plenty of sun cream! If you are going for two weeks I would recommend hiring a car so you can drive to different parts of the island otherwise you will get bored of going to Caleta everyday for the beach and every night for something to eat and drink. Don’t buy anything from the local supermarket at the hotel as it’s is a rip off!

If your'e thinking of going to Costa Tropical apartments please read this first! I am being generous with a 1 rating. Our holiday was awful. We are 30 and have 4 children their ages are 8, 9, 11 and 13.
We went here all inclusive, big mistake! Pool bar was closed all the time and had been closed a long while. There was no entertainment although it was advertised daily on the board at reception. After all us guests challenged the staff they give all the kids 1 tub of used plastercene to share no joke! There was a play room but they would not open it at all (apparently work was being done in there by invisible work man, we asked for the toys to be brought out but were told No.
The snack bar, pizzeria was closed until late and only did pizza not any of the other snacks as advertised. Food was of a very poor standard the chef would at times have to help serve drinks as there was not many staff (restaurant was like a ghost town most of the time because most guests were going out paying for food elsewhere). Children’s play area consists of 1 small rusty slide. There were a couple of broken lights floating in the pool (still attached), pool was also dirty.
The staff mainly the manager were very unhelpful. The maintenance man, would of been a better manager he seemed to be the one who made all the decisions. The manager went away halfway through the week for some reason and put a temp manager in who didn’t have a clue either. The hotel was advertised as 2 key some brochures 3 keys it actually only has a 1 key when we asked the manager about this we were told local kids had stolen the other key, (ha ha) Manager turned comedian.
Every guest was trying to be moved but reps were charging them up to 400 euro, some were that desperate they paid this. One rep we spoke to was well aware of the problems with this hotel and couldn’t believe families had been sent there! The hotel was surrounded by a building site and constantly stunk of sewerage this was also a problem in the apartment leaking through the ceiling. It was also being used on an all inclusive basis by local builders.
A couple who were staying for 2 weeks paid 100 euro to fly home after 4 days when they were approached outside the hotel by a man trying to steal their money. That along with everything else topped it off for them. We tried to make the best out of it, but sitting in a **** hotel in the middle of nowhere without the entertainment we had already paid for made this unbearable. It certainly is a hotel from Hell or as some guest's called it Faulty Towers!
If you want a good holiday please don’t go to Costa tropical apartments, if you’re a workman looking for cheap digs I suggest you invest in a portable TV or radio. This certainly won’t be the only bad review you will read about this place I am certain of that every single guest there was very, very unhappy!
We have gone all inclusive a few times before this and loved it, now I would only do it again to some where I have already been. Costa tropical hotel from hell! Unfortunately the Best part of this holiday was flying home.

WOW is right, The only reason why I’m not giving this place 10 is because we weren't on full comp so don't know how the food was, though we were told by 3 other couples that all meals they had were great and also because as we weren't on full comp it would have cost us £12 to play tennis which is quite steep.
It is obvious by reading the comments that were made back in 2004, that Costa Tropical has improved where ever it was lacking.
I stayed there with my partner for four nights all of the staff including the bar man that couldn't speak very good English were friendly, receptionists extremely helpful & knowledgeable.
Our room was spotless, furniture was modern/Spanish, very well decorated, hand painted ceramic light covers throughout.
In the four nights we were there house keeping came in twice (taking into consideration that we were there on a Sunday and Monday which was a public holiday), they cleaned the bathroom, put in fresh towels, changed the bedding and emptied bins, the rest of the time we saw them doing general areas, even picking up rugs in the lounge areas and sweeping underneath them. The whole hotel was beautifully decorated and spotless, including the pool and outdoor areas.
There was a resident entertainment & activities organiser that has admittedly just started called Johan (from Belgium) he was great every day of the week ALL day he had on sight activities - aerobics, French bowls, archery, air rifle shooting, table tennis, water sports etc then at night in the bar for entertainment he had discos, dart games, quizzes etc these are all great fun for adults and children.
I would certainly love to go back there again, especially as the area is growing so fast, in a couple of years time it will be booming, though it was not busy when we were there as it was only late April (not quite summer) we did meet about 5 other couples that we got along with very well and they all also agreed that they had a great time and will be going back again and those who have children, will be also bringing their children back next time.
I strongly recommend Costa Tropical to anyone.
Note: do not buy from the local super market though as she is a complete rip off merchant, go into the town of Caleta there’s lots of great shops, restaurants and bars.

Contrary to the reviews further down this list I felt the need to add my opinion as I returned from this resort last night.
My daughter and I badly needed a break and this was an affordable week away to chill out in the sunshine.
We were met at the airport by our med hotels rep who showed us to a bus which transferred us to the hotel in around 5 minutes.
Once there Reuben on reception checked us in - his English was very good but became better the more we spoke to him. The reception area was very clean with a beautiful water feature and a lounge off it where they was a desk with internet access for all.
There is no porter service in this hotel but as I am recovering from a car accident and have an obvious limp we were offered the assistance of the maintenance man and a maid to get us to our room on the second floor.
The rooms were spotless as was the bedding and towels. The lounge diner was furnished in a lovely Spanish type style, dark pine table and chairs etc. The lamp shades are ceramic throughout the hotel - beautiful. The bathroom was clean (no sign of cockroaches) - although the bath was only half size.
There are two restaurant areas - the larger one caters for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the smaller one was a pizza restaurant.
The food was plentiful with many different choices - from salad to English cuisine with, surprisingly enough some Spanish choices. The pizzas were cooked to order and were gorgeous! There are two chefs - one of them, Anna was really pleasant and always acknowledged us (at last somewhere to practice my Spanish). The bar and restaurant manager, David, worked tirelessly to ensure we were fed and watered and the waiter, Alfredo, was a delight - his English was superb and he always had a smile for us.
The hotel manger was female and very pleasant indeed - from cups of tea to car hire and all with a smile.
The downside - if you can call it that was that there were very few people staying at the hotel and, for this reason, the animator had no choice but to shelve any entertainment - instead the guests were allowed to choose between themselves which activities to go for. My daughter won the rifle shooting and our team also won the quiz - great fun.
All in all I have to recommend this hotel - they have obviously cleaned up their act!!!!

A taxi to the hotel from airport cost 10 euros which was excellent. Room was small and very basic but clean, maid changed towels everyday apart from Wednesdays and Sundays.
We found the staff not to be over friendly, there was no entertainment, and the bar sometimes had no staff which we found annoying at times.
The weather that time of year was brilliant, part cloudy some days but the sun always managed to get through. We both came home with a good tan. Around 5 or 6 hours of sunshine a day, evenings were slightly cold so take a jacket with you.
There is a free bus that leaves the hotel at 9.00, 9.30, and 10.00 and so on to Caleta de fuste.
We also took a taxi into the resort which cost 3 Euro, excellent value. Check out Merlin cafe in Caleta de fuste, the waiter is very entertaining; you can get a full English breakfast for 4.50 euros’ and a cuppa. Best breakfast ever.
Outside the hotel was a building site, most of the island seemed that way. So we wouldn’t come back here again.
Cheap holiday so can't really complain as you get what you pay for.
