Just come back from a week here half board, with Husband and teenage son. Apart from nice clean rooms the rest of the hotel was awful. Its in the middle of nowhere, next to a very very busy dual carriage way and not the easiest place to get to. The dining room is like a... more

Rooms - nice and clean - more spacious than we had imagined for the money. Ours had fridge which we used to store the beer and water we bought from the supermarket opposite. Cheapskate eh??!! Was with wife and 16 month old daughter. Children's pool excellent - as other... more

I went with my wife and two sons aged 3 and 6. The hotel is approx 12 KM from Marbella and 10 from Estepona. The bedroom was excellent, high quality and kept spotlessly clean. The aircon was superb and much needed. The hotel itself was very good indeed with extremely... more

Long weekend
Just returned from our second long weekend staying at the AGH Again had a really nice time l would recommend the hotel to anyone. Staff very helpfull, we asked for a change of room (wanted one with a balcony but had been given one with a juliett balconey) no problem, sorted straight away. l find the food to be very good, in the main, l love salad, fish & fresh fruit which is plentiful. Room kept very clean daily towel change, bath robes supplied. Drinks are a touch high in the bar, but found a super bar just to the left of the hotel, also found the most wonderful restaurant just a few minutes drive or taxi away, called The Connoisseur Club Restaurant. tel [--] (Next to the Nordic Royal Club) FIND IT, it's well worth the effort. Have a great stay, we might bump into you the next time we are there.
Never again - what a nightmare
Myself, my partner and 15 year old daughter have just returned from a disappointing 2 weeks at this Hotel. The holiday started off badly and just went downhill after that. Hotel is billed as a 4 star but is more like a 3 star. The first room that we were put into had wet, damp walls, stank and had ants crawling all over it. The second room had no airconditioning. Finally we were given a room in the annex of the hotel. This started off very clean but was not swept or dusted in the 2 weeks that we were there, and the sheets were only changed once we had thrown them into a pile on the floor. Food in the dining room was cold, and not labelled. Bar on the top floor was often unmaned and left dirty from the day before. Some of the staff were excellent but the majority just could not care less. Dont be fooled or caught out by the beach bar - it does not belong to the hotel and we were caught out after having lunch there - we wanted to sign for the food and told we had to pay cash as they were separate from the hotel. Most of the pools are tiny and should be classed as dipping pools not proper swimming pools. There is practically no entertainment in the evenings. No information is given in the hotel about the hotel or about any places of interest nearby. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone.
loved it
we have just recently stayed at this hotel for a family holiday for 10 nights.the hotel was lovely, our room was spacious and very clean, and food was nice.the spa and jacuzzi was just out of this world ,however ther was no entertainment at all for the children apart from the swimming pool.the children were not aloud in the spa so you did need babysitters .we did meet simple minds the band though so that was a bonus for us as they were staying in our hotel and then sat in the hotel bar near us after they had done a gig.all in all a really nice hotel, you do definately need a car.
Lovely Holiday
Had a lovely peaceful holiday. Hotel lovely, pools very nice and food beautiful with lots of choice. I have only 2 complaints: 1. We were on a half board basis and the evening meal is only served from 8.00pm onwards - this is a bit late if you plan to go out into a resort for the evening. 2. The location - about 15 minutes between Estepona and Puerto Banuse - we had a car so we were ok, but we didn't particularly want to drive each evening but there isn't any entertainment in the hotel. Other than that we have a really relaxing holiday.
Ignore the bad reports this is a fantastic hotel !!!!!
After booking this hotel i read the reviews and thought i had made a big mistake for me and my family. But the only thing i can agree with was the position of the hotel, but a short bus ride did not ruin our holiday. The hotel and room was amazing and the staff was great, our 5 year old wanted to spend all day in the swimming pools, the roof top pool had fantasic views. Children were not allowed in the spa so we never used the facilities but looked great if you wanted to relax. The food was very good with lots of different varieties. We would definitely go back and stay at this hotel.
enjoyable stay
Just got back from our 10 day stay at this hotel (family of 4) and really enjoyed it, the kids especially had a great time. We were initially disappointed at the position of the hotel (smack bang on a very busy motorway) however, as you come out of the hotel turn left and 5 mins walk away is a footbridge across where you can find two supermarkets and a few restaurants. Also just past the bridge is a bus stop which will take you to Puerto Banus and Marbella, and across the road is the stop for Estepona. The beach by the hotel is useless for children but nice beaches and play parks are only a short bus ride away. The hotel itself doesn't offer much evening entertainment, so night times are quite quiet. There are plenty of swimming pools to choose from, smaller ones are very quiet (we had a pool to ourselves most days). There is a really great toddlers pool at the far end with inflatables, water slide and waterfalls, however only the main pool has parasols for shade with the sun loungers. Can't complain about the food however, some days were better than others and the kids ate really well! The room was nice and modern and bathrobes, toothbrushes and razors were provided. All in all we enjoyed our stay.
Disappointing
We stayed here in December 2005 and based on that visit we reurned in July 2006. It was very disappointing - the rooftop pool was not open and the hotel beach club was also not open (and didn't appear to be in any condition to be opened anytime soon). That was very disapponitning as the rooftop pool was one of the hotel's better features and the beach in that part of Esteponia/Marbella is small/rocky/sloped (great if you have beachfront propoerty, not so great if you are travelling and looking for a chaise lounge and a tinto!). In December they offered turn-down service and slippers in the room - no longer happening. We noticed scuffs on some of the walls and glassware from the bar that was left by a swimming pool for the 48 hours we spent there, never picked up. The impression was that they are no longer making much of an effort, and so we won't return. The spa was lovely but the staff there was much friendlier in December. Breakfast and location is fine. If you go to Estepona or Marbella, do visit Osaka and Thai Gallery - two great restaurants, highly recommended.
avoid this hotel
stayed at this hotel for one week with my husband - on the positive side the actual hotel building is lovely and the interior very stylish. The rooms are large , modern and all very clean. Other aspects of the hotel however let it down big-time. The food especially in the evenings is terrible - about 50% one cannot identify what it is and the maitre de did not seem to know any better when asked. The food was slow to be replenished at the buffet, was often obviously left overs from the previous night and one offering was even breadcrumbed beef(!) The number of serving staff is small so getting a hot drink at breakfast or a drink with your evening meal is very difficult. Dinner is served at 8 oclock - too late for for us to then go out and do something. Not that there is anything to do - only when you arrive do you discover the hotel is actually on the side of a very busy motorway and to get anywhere you have to walk along storm drains and then over motorway bridges. The beach though close is really just an outlet for local waste water and only the very foolish would dare use it i think. There was also a Gala meal during our stay which would have cost us each 110 euros to have - the party was really one for local people and as a result the hotel guests were fed in a small area above the bar with few tables , long queues and high temperatures. It has several small pools which are very nice but there are few umbrellas to give any shade. Overall I was very glad to leave and pay the bill (though we did discover we had been paying 12 euros for a plate of chips!) and would not reccommend this hotel at all mainly due to poor service, poor food and the dreadful location.
Nice hotel, but a 5 min walk from the beach.
The AGH Estepona is a quality 4-5 star hotel, situated between the N-340 Autovia, and the beach. However, while the location might sound grand, the beach is actually a 5 minute walk down some paved roads, and when you get there, although sandy, there is not much width of beach so you may find it a little crowded in high season. We did notice a beach bar, but at the end of March, this had not yet opened for the season. The AGH looks like it might have gone under a different name before (Alsatli ?), as the only reference to AGH was on a PVC banner outside - once inside all other references were to "The Alsatli Spa & Hotel". The hotel itself is very nice inside, with a large lobby, and the restaurant & spa being below ground. The rooms are laid out in several individual blocks, and are styled in a very Andalucian manner. Each room is open plan, and our standard room was very clean and nicely furnished. We had paid a last minute rate of UK£62 via Expedia. The rooms also included a sort of mini-kitchen comprising microwave, sink, & fridge/minibar. The hotel boasts 6 pools, but there is a reason for this; the layout of the hotel is very linear, meaning that there was a need for several smaller pools closer to each set of rooms. So you do have a choice; a quiet pool close to your room, or the larger pool some distance away near the lobby. There is free parking in front of the rooms, so once checked in, if you have a car, move it closer to the room. We had no complaints about the accomodation, but can't comment on the food. If you don't want to eat in the hotel, then be prepared to drive, as although we spotted a couple of Chinese restaurants opposite, there way no way you could cross the Autovia to get to them.
Little Gem
Stayed here for two nights whilst on an educational visit to Spain. Wouldnt class it as 5star, however a very good 4star. The public rooms are very relaxing and spacious. steps down to a large dining room, which had a lovely ambiance. The food was excellant and attention to detail very good. The rooms are spacious and clean, but very badly lit. The bathrooms very sumptious with marble floors and the obligatory bidet! The outdoor pool is somewhat small, but with plenty of loungers and relaxing space. However the peice de la resistance is definately the spa. Stretching below the entire hotel, it is an experience within itself. The location leaves a little to be desired, and car hire is a must.
