I have been visiting this area for the last 10 years and stay in either Minerva or Jupiter. Everything is on your doorstep. We go for the excellent swimming pool with slides, lifeguards and gardens with enough space for everyone. There are 3 pools, the paddling pool for very young and the just learning pool. The third pool is segregated into 3 areas the pool for lilos and other blow up fun stuff, the slides x3 (not big curly ones just standard drop slides) and the one huge area you can swim to get fit, jump into from the island and make as big a splash as you want to within reason, and dive into try to get to the bottom of 4m! Beach, town (train connection from Malaga airport to Arroyo Del La Miel for those not wanting to pay taxi fare and willings to walk 15 mins through the town to apartments), amusement park and marina all within walking distance. These are not your typical holiday Apartments they are residential apartment blocks for most of the year with some apartments rented during the year. They can be basic but occasionally you get a new renovated one. Never come across coachroachs except the occassional one in the streets, view from balcony can vary so check before booking we have had pool, bonanza square or road (can be noisy especially when the communial bins are emptied) and directly opposite the twin apartment block. But lets face it you are going to be out for most of the time! Supermarket across the road along with more restaurants than you can possibly eat at in a two week holiday. If you have children Paloma Park is a must (Tivoli World approx 15 min walk or short taxi ride). Booking to next year.

recentley got back from staying at the minerva i would really really suggest family's or young groups of GIRLS or groups of guys do not stay here !!! when we first arrived everything was ok rooms where ok not amazing just dated. the night before we come home we got robbed for all of our money euro's english and one friend even had turkish money that they took.
It looked clearly like an inside job at first a key must have been used as there was no obvious break in signs they went in to all makeup cases, purses and also broke into our cases which where locked. then after they had been in locked them back up again bt we had clean towels and toilet rolls in our rooms which we had not recieved all through out the holiday. we hadent told anyone where our rooms where or brought anybody back but who ever broke in had a very good idea of the times we would be in and out 3 girl in each x2 rooms where robbed next door to eachother but no other rooms on our floor we was in so much shock and had no money we asked the hotel for help they was rude and presumed we just wanted to make a claim on our insurance not once did they come and look at the room. we went to the police station to report this when we got back we had been BROCKEN into again this time with a crow bar ... marks all over the door and when we opened the door all the paint off the door was on the floor all our clothes where everywhere we had packed before leaving to go to the police... they came back for something else!!! we think maybe our passports as we had taken these with us.the funny thing is 2 friends stayed back at the hotel then came to meet us we was then very very scared and shocken that someone could come back twice they had to of been watching us the whole holiday as they new when we was in and out!!!!!!! this time it looked like they had been in a rush as they didnt tidy up or make it look like it had not been robbed. we have since been back and all still in shock aswell as being robbed the area at night was not great in the 24 hour square lots of men everywhere trying to sell you anything and everything an lots of prositutes everywhere. we also heard from some other people that there is usually bad gang fights and also lots of muggings and robberys going on in the area.
also one night in a club a guy kept offering to take photos of us with our cameras we then found out later that he was a thief he also dropped hes glass on our friends foot and cut it open luckily he didnt take any of our cameras but this was the night we was robbed !!
the day we left we looked on floor 4 and 9 and on certain doors you can see these have also been brocken into buy crow bar marks!!!
there is no security in the apartments and no cameras on apartment floors or lifts
we also caught a cleaner in another room going down someones bag they tryed to cover this up and say that someone had left there bag!!!!

Hi just got back from a 2 week stay at the Minerva it was a total nightmare the apartment witch we have had before was this time totaly infested with cockroches they were in all the cupboards, fridge, microwave, bathroom and worst of all the beds there are some well looked after apartments in this block but be warned others are very rundown and many have the cockroach problem if you must stay here get assurance in wrighting from the owner that it has been treated and is cockroach free on the good side it has the best pool area in spain but not woth sleeping with cockroaches for.
Locally the people are blaming the cockroach problem on the very hot summer and no real rain since Febuary.

i stayed in the minerva in june 2006.we have been to benalmadena for the last 4 years and normally stay in apartments by paloma park.
unfortunatly for us they where fully booked,so knowing where the minerva apartments where we booked this for its close proximity to bonanza square.
when we arrived we found we where on the ground floor with bars on the windows, the apartment itself was dated but ok,until the cockroaches surfaced!!!!
the pool was good but the slides where closed.
the other thing i found unbearable was the very strong smell of dog wee right outside the front.will never go back there again.
i reccommend the bonanza square especially el cordero where the prawns pil pil are excellent.benalmadena is a lovely place for any age ,just dont stay here!!!!

We booked our apartment privately, number 22b in the Minerva block. Before I booked it I explained the we spend a lot of time on the baclony sitting watching the world go by and was informed by the owners Mr and Mrs Heard from Swansea that there were lovely views from their balcony!!!
When we arrived the apartment was really dark and when we pulled back the curtans we could see why..... There was a massive pillar in the middle of the balcony and the only view was of the steps of the apartment block opposite. We could not even sit outside at the table together due to this pillar.
Plus the photos that were shown on the "Holiday Lettings" site were taken from the next block down of the pool which was shown as to be from this apartment. We actually had to pay for another apartment and only stayed there for the first and last night of our holiday thank God.

The rooms looked ok but very dated, when we first arrived we didnt really like the look of the place but when we got in the room it was decent, until i looked around and it was dirty and found several dead cockroaches on the floor and others on work tops and walls, as we were not very impressed and happy we asked for a move due to the conditions, ill safley say i would go back to benalmadena because we got moved to another place myramar oasis which was lovely and clean and more modern. but we will never return to jupiter aparments and never recommend to anyone at all.

I stay in Jupiter/Minerva every year, about 3-4 times a year. I love it there. The pool is amazing, the Marina just down the road is amazing. Theres nice beaches 5mins down the road and a massive park just bhind the apartments. Aqua parks, A theme park and other atractions are all within 30mins.
It isnt the cleanest of places around the apartments and it can be loud, but everyfin else makes up for that. Aslong as the apartment is clean and you have sun, pool and a beach... wot else do u need!

After changing our room to a pool view we were quite happy with our accomadation on the first floor(really 3rd floor). The pool is excellant for kids and adults alike to have fun.The location is brilliant for all amenities. The only real downside to the holiday was no air con in the room(only some private apartments have it),but all in all we had very good holiday and would return without question. But with air con.

What can i say that hasnt been mentioned already!!! apart from maybe....
In the apartment of Minerva 2
A freezer compartment of the fridge that fully frosted up so thus stopping any frozen food to be stored.
A 2 ring hob that had only one ring working.
Loose mains sockets on the wall
Dirty floors
Filthy mattress
A camp bed that was old and nasty looking
Dodgy lifts
and only one washing machine that we were told served half the complex!!!???
Around the complex....
Speeding motorists (ie staff/cleaners and maintenance) around the site with no regard for pedestrians as you try to negotiate the roads as there are few pavements (they act as car parking). Speed humps would help!
There is little to do during wet weather even in alcudia itself unless you eat or wanna spend spend spend in the souvenir shops.
The crazy golf has seen far better days as has the football court.
The family (i use the word family lighlty) entertainment for some unknown reason doesnt start until 10PM! Our children were fed up and tired by that time, so you end up in bed by around 11 pm trying to drop off when you have a tidal wave of drunken noisy chavillians returning to their apartments playing the game of 'make as much noise as possible' dragging furniture around in their rooms and then if you havent had enough already, to top it all the refuse collectors turn up around 12 am to empty the large bins at the front of the hotel! WHY at that time?
Mosquitos are there and can be annoying, but there are no deterrents or insecticide spraying carried out by staff.
The childrens play area was ALWAYS full of litter and stones, some of which were very sharp and jagged and there was no supervision from staff there.
Unfortunately as the beach is lovely and very clean the resort has gained CHAV city status. Unless you have numerous tattoos and only dress in football shirts and prefer english 'chips and beans' meals then this is def not the place to stay. Ooh, i never mentioned the missing lamp post covers around the pools enabling children to easily grab live cables, a dangerous absence of lifeguards around the pools (we saw one in 14 days!) and no safety rails around the rather dirty stagnent lake/river sides.
Also it doesnt appear that the 'NO SUN LOUNGER RESERVATION' rule was being observed. Towels were out at very early hours.
Reps seemed more concerned on sales of trips that anything else.
I can safely say i will never return to Hellvue.

Tremendous place. family owns a studio. They need updating but overall really good. Decent reception with cold beers and pops, internet. Superb pool. Plenty of pubs and eateries over the road. Great park and Benalmadena a few minutes away.
If you're going to this part of the world, book here, don't bother with an overpriced hotel.

Me and my partner stayed at the Minerva this October and weren't greatly impressed. The hotel looks ok until you get past the reception then it starts to go downhill. It is very run down. We were staying on the ground floor (otherwise known as -2 floor!!) and it felt like we were in a prison. There were bars up at the small windows in the bathroom and kitchenette and a big steel gate at the patio doors. The only benefit is that we could get to the pool area out of our back door, which was a short cut.
The pool area is very clean and spacious and the pool is massive but you have to be a strong swimmer as the pool area is very very deep (at a couple of points it reaches 13 foot!!). Also remember your fly swatter as the pool area is an attraction point for flies that never leave you alone!
I must give the hotel credit, it is in a perfect location in Benalmadena just across from the supermarket and 10mins walk down a steep hill to the beach. It is also right next to Bonanza square which I was told was very lively full of bars and restaurants. However I wouldn't call it lively, yes there were bars and restaurants but it definitely caters for the elderly or sports fans as there is no music or entertainment just the odd 15inch telly playing football or rugby. There is also a couple of karaoke bars (one being underneath the hotel) but I wouldn't advise you to go in there unless your over the age of 60 or carrying some ear plugs with you.
Me and my partner will not be returning to the Minerva or Benalmadena.
