Jul 2006, Mrs A Serridge

We found the hotel very basic, it is what we expected for the money we paid for 3 adults 2 children. The food was not excellent but there was a large choice of varieties from salads to pasta to chips etc. The rooms and beds were cleaned everyday to a decent standard. The hotel entertainment day and night was good the children were occupied during day and night involved in the kids club. The bar staff were extremely friendly and polite as was also the reception and members of staff. The holiday overall was acceptable and very good value for money! (Even though it was not very expensive)

This hotel is absolutely the worst we...

Jun 2006, Ms S Bellis

This hotel is absolutely the worst we have ever visited. We read the reviews before we went and thought it can’t be that bad but rest assured it is.
The whole place is filthy. The rooms are rotten and the pool had a covering of rubbish along the bottom and dog ends and cups floating in it. The filters didn’t work so the water was stagnant.
We were placed in the apartment block separate from the main hotel. No A/C no balcony. It was horrible. The floors weren’t cleaned and the beds never made. The whole place was just a nightmare.
We traveled with a 5 year old and she thought the food was ok as she only eats chips and bread while we are away. However the 2 adults in the party lived on fruit and Pringles all week. The food was appalling. They offer snacks between meals. When actually they offer left over’s from the previous meal with chips!
The soup changed colour but always tasted the same. We never had veg or any choice from chips. The bread rolls were ok for breakfast but as they were left out all day they were stale by 11am.
The hotel provides a courtesy bus to other H Top hotels. A word of advice don’t bother. The bus is filthy and the seats all collapse on the top deck. So if you need to sit back in your seat forget it. We had one decent meal in a week and that was at the Pineda Palace on the sea front and we walked it there.
And another point they fail to tell you is that the hotel overlooks a 300 + lorry and bus park. So over the week (especially Friday) all you get is the traffic passing your bedrooms. As the hotel is on the corner of a busy junction and all the surrounding roads lead to the front door. It is like sleeping on the central reservation of the M6. And not only do you get the noise you get the fumes to go with it. You can’t sleep with your window open because of the noise and smell and it is unbearable with it closed due to the heat.
The apartments echo so you an hear everything! And I don’t just mean doors slamming
I can safely say that this was my first visit to the Costa Brava and it will definitely be my last. I was very tempted to make my own arrangements ands fly home after 2 nights.

Just arrived back from 1 weeks all...

Jun 2006, Mrs A Cochrane

Just arrived back from 1 weeks all inclusive and must say I was pleasantly surprised. Having only paid £197 I was not expecting much and was a bit apprehensive. The hotel was small with very basic furnishings but it was very clean. The towels etc are changed daily. There was never a meal that I could not find something to eat but it was not A La Carte (would you expect it to be for the money).
Having the passport to visit other hotels was also fantastic and we ate at the Pineda Palace & The Hotel Santa Susanne twice. The atmosphere was not too great there and after eating we went back to the Paradis for a bit of atmosphere. The other residents at the time of our stay were fantastic and everyone was friendly.
The location of the hotel is pretty good. You can walk into Calella in 15 minutes. Market day in Pineda is a Friday and for the size of the resort it was pretty good. We also visited a bar after the free bar closed called Sids Bell (great pub) the owner made you feel very welcome. The train to Barcelona is only a ten minute walk down to the beach. 6 Euros return and it only takes 50 minutes. If you go to Barcelona for the day I would advise you go on the tour bus. It does cost 19 Euro but is well worth the money.
You are on it 2 hours and it takes in the New Camp stadium, The Olympic Stadium and the unfinished Cathedral. We got off at Las Ramblas and walked back to the station. Barcelona is a must. Although beware it is very expensive. A Diet Coke costs about 3 Euros. All in all I have no complaints and would recommend this hotel as long as you are looking for cheap and cheerful. You get what you pay for after all.

Jun 2006, Miss H Ritchie

Where do I start. Firstly and mostly importantly our room was never cleaned only clean towels were provided on a daily basis the floors were never cleaned utterly filthy. My daughter was sick on the top bed sheets I left them on the floor for the cleaner only to thing the previous night they had been put back on! (Disgusting). Bed sheets were never changed. Air con was ok though.
The food was the same crap everyday chips and rabbit! Paid to eat out which was a shame as I was all inclusive. You were only allowed 2 drinks at a time so the 4 of us had 2 share drinks out of plastic beakers. Bar staff I found were not polite at all as well as some of the receptionists.
The decor of the hotel is 1960 needs modernising. The surrounding area is a dump, graffiti everywhere, looked dirty.
Over all I didn’t enjoy my time there what so ever and would not go back, as would most of the people we talked too there, they didn’t enjoy it either.

Jun 2006, Mr A Brown

The hotel itself is small and therefore suffers none of the cattle market feel of the others in the group that we visited. They were The Royal Star, The Royal Beach and The Pineda Palace. The service is generally very good and we found it clean and tidy. The rooms were cleaned each day although one day there was a bad smell from the drains in the bathroom and it took the threat of being transferred to get them to sort it out.
We found Pineda very quiet which was what we expected and wanted but made use of the free bus to visit other resorts. However, the huge problem we had was the food. We managed to try and eat there for 5 days and visited for another 3 and then had to eat out for the rest of the fortnight. The food whist quite presentable and cooked ok was simply the cheapest food they could find. Chicken wings skeletal chicken legs, sausages repeatedly rabbit and chips every day.
If you waited for the snacks you were disappointed because they were the leftovers from the previous meal. This was also consistent across the others where in desperation we visited to try and eat. I would never visit this hotel on anything other than a B&B basis.

Sep 2005, Miss Pat Pleasent + co

So where do we start.... well the place smelled of stale smoke, the lifts could hardly fit a peanut in them so your ******** if you've got a big family as you'll be waiting 6 years for them to get to the top. The food was not particularly nice and very samey, unless you like chips alot!
There's nowhere to go out, well there is Callela which has a few clubs and that’s not too far away but they’re a bit rubbish. The beach is shingle so no sand and the sea looks quite dangerous. Pineda is just full of hotels, we never found any particularly good bars. Another thing was that we didn’t have a REP to tell us anything, although there is 1 friendly helpful bloke who finally told us what to do. The one good thing was the night market was ok and you could get nice jewellery but that’s about it.
We wouldn't really recommend this place if you are between the ages of 0 and 100.
Happy holidays.

On arriving at our hotel we were told...
1 / 10
Aug 2005, Miss L Cartwright

On arriving at our hotel we were told 'I'm sorry, but although you booked a twin room we only have double room'. So as you can imagine my friend and I were not happy given the fact that we had been up since 3.00 am and had 1 1/2 hour delay at Manchester airport. Eventually after 1/2 hour of arguing the manager 'found' a spare twin room.
We were amazed at how small the room was as this is a 3* accommodation. There was only just enough room to walk round the beds with them pushed together. The bathroom was very small and the floor throughout was filthy. We overlooked this as you don’t tend to spend very long in the rooms. The towels were tiny. You needed 2 to wrap round you after a bath!
We headed down for something to eat. Well if you like chips, chips or chips you’d be fine here. There were no signs to state what any of the dishes were so it was a guessing game. The bread was always hard and the snacks were the previous meals left overs. After 2 days we could take no more and headed off for an English bar on the sea front. Amazingly when we got there we found most of the English guests in our hotel were already there eating as they could not stand the food either!
The 'free' drinks within the hotel were ok, but the only problem we had was that the bar men served paying customers before all inclusive so at busy times I was often stood for 20 mins waiting.
Entertainment was fine if you were under 14 and liked mini discos.
The overall area of Pineda was quite dirty and when walking back to hotel at night you did not feel safe at all. We only ventured out once at night time because of this.
Every English guest we spoke to during our week there was disgusted to be in the hotel and couldn’t wait to come home. I have never experienced this anywhere I have been before.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
The only good thing about the holiday was that Finnair, who we flew with, were fantastic and courteous.

On the scene in Paradise Park, Pineda...
8 / 10
Jul 2005, Mr A Dunn

On the scene in Paradise Park, Pineda De Mar. To the point. The service in this small hotel is second to none, it is informal and first class. Nothing is a problem and they cannot do enough for you.
The receptionists are brilliant. especially Dominique. the hotel is small and the rooms are very clean, they do need to be upgraded, but to be fair we only use it to sleep in. The linen is changed regularly and the towels daily. They have separate apartments around the corner. But beware they do not have a balcony nor do they have air conditioning. The rooms on the first three floors are all one bedroom and the 3 floors above them are twin rooms.
The food menu needs to be changed to accommodate the visitors from the UK as it is mainly for the European visitors. The chips available in the afternoon are very dry after a while and they are very limited. A suggestion to improve the overall all inclusive package at this hotel would be to provide ice pops free of charge, after all they only cost a few pennies.
Ice-lollies are available but at a cost although the kids can have as many tubs of ice cream as they like. Not as refreshing though as frozen ice. The other thing that people here are talking about is the use of what we will call tupperware plastic tumblers for the alcohol and beer. Apparently it’s the rules but only for all-inclusive guests. This is not a personal gripe but one that people of many nationalities are not happy about. There is an inconsistency because some waiters serve everything in actual glasses and others the plastic. The plastic tumblers are not as hygienic in my opinion as the glass ones, they are quite sharp.
Most other hotels provide plastic to children and plastic when around the pool area and glasses when on the terrace. It is strange how you can order 2 separate beers in small glasses plastic containers but if you ask for one large glass you have to pay a supplement. It is very strange. Overall it’s a great place and great value for money.8/10

We have just returned from this hotel...
9 / 10
Jun 2005, Mr M Owen

We have just returned from this hotel and had a great holiday there. Staff are very friendly and helpful. This hotel does have air conditioning despite some reviews saying it does not, which is very welcome when it is 35C outside.
We also had a room with 2 bedrooms (1 Double and 1 with 2 singles), good wardrobes and drawers, which was great for family of 4. A good-sized bathroom and small kitchen, which was not used as we were on an “All Inclusive” basis. Rooms were cleaned daily although linen not changed all week. Towels every day if placed in bath. 2 lifts are available if required to all 7 floors from the reception area. The hotel is very clean as is the pool and grounds. There were always plenty of Sun beds to soak up the warm med sun.
The pool bar is open nearly all the time and staff were superb and had no problem serving drinks to All Inclusive guests. (Which I’ve heard does happen at some resorts) Food is O.K. and is typically Mediterranean, not a huge selection but you never went hungry. There is always plenty of fresh fruit available. Snacks in between meal times mainly consisted of Burgers, Frankfurter sausages and chips, bread rolls etc, etc. Drink machine with nice selection of juices always available free in dining room, as were different flavour tubs of Ice creams. Breakfasts consisted of Bacon, Sausage, Fried Egg, beans etc. Toast, cereals, fruit and yoghurts. Hot drinks are also available free from the machine, Tea, Coffee, Cappuccino, Hot chocolate etc. and are quite nice!
Going “All Inclusive” gave us access to use facilities and dine at other H.top hotels and we visited the 4* Pineda Palace just 300 yards away, but did not really find it any better than our 3*. You have to book this facility a day in advance though.
Paradis Park is quite a small hotel and as such there was no noise or rowdiness at all, which seems to be more prevalent at the larger H. Top Hotels in the surrounding areas. Pineda de Mar is also a small peaceful type of resort, and therefore if you just want to unwind and relax, this is the place for you. For a buzzing nightlife, Lloret De Mar would probably be more suitable.
Nightly entertainment at the hotel mainly consists of a Disco every night. During the day the pool is open, the pool is quite deep but there is an area separated by pillars for young children. There is a tennis court where football is also played, table tennis, darts and a pool table. There is also a small pond with swans and some birds in cages and a children’s play area with swings and slides etc. Usually the hotel entertainment guy has the kids doing something in the resort about 3 o’clock, and losers of the footy matches often end up in the pool. There is a small arcade area with a couple of games and air hockey table.
The beach can be seen from the balconies and is a very short walk (200 M) away.
The sand is quite stony and dry and as such is certainly no good for buckets and spades. The beach is clean and the water warm and clear, except for the jellyfish, which seem to appear in the afternoons. One problem at the beach is the severe lack of toilet facilities. Virtually none. And those that are there belong to the snack bars on the beach. You have to buy from them before they let you use the loo, with the exception of children who are allowed.
The hotel offers 2 free shows and all you pay for is the bus transportation. This costs 10 euros each person. The Medieval Castle show with jousting is fun and includes dinner (Soup and roll, a whole roasted chicken, “YUMMY” and jacket potato, and Ice Cream for dessert. (No cutlery though) Wine, Orange Pop and water all supplied free. Other drinks are available but have to be paid for.) Afterwards there is a Flamenco dancing show with Bar available until bus takes you back to your resort at about midnight.
Overall, we definitely had value for money booking by teletext holidays, which I would highly recommend. We flew from Luton Airport, which was a bit of a drive from South Wales, with Ryan air, and the flights were wonderful both ways. I paid well under £1000 for 4 of us All Inclusive, including flights! Money well spent, and I’ll definitely be back!!!!!
Hope this review helps.

The Aparthotel Paradis Park was very...

Oct 2004, Mr G Lowther

The Aparthotel Paradis Park was very clean and staff were cheery and helpful. The food was not great but we had the opportunity to dine at other H - Top hotels in the area (recommend 4 star Royal Sun in Santa Suzanna). The snacks provided between meals on the All Inclusive break were in fact left over’s from the previous meal and were not at all appetising. Although we travelled out of season the weather was very warm which compensated for the resort being all but closed. The coastal railway is terrific and very cheap. We paid 11.50 Euros return for 2 to Barcelona (One hour from resort). Callele and Santa Suzanna were within walking distance. A trip to Lorett De Mar was about 30 mins by train. I would strongly recommend a day trip to the Universal Theme Park near Salou, you can book this through an agency in Pineada De Mar(40Euros each inclusive of entry and coach) A bus leaves the resort around 8.45 and you get around 7 hours at the park. Approx 2.5 hours each way but great fun once you get there. Food and drink is reasonable but a packed lunch is a good idea.

Jul 2004, Mrs B J Shufflebotham

I searched on the Internet to find out about this hotel, but could not find it anywhere. This made us very apprehensive for our last-minute booked holiday but we could not believe how clean, large and comfortable the room was. We were booked as four sharing a room so expected to be cramped, but there were two adjoining bedrooms, one with a double bed the other with two singles, ensuite bath and shower, small kitchen with large fridge, large wardrobes and plenty of drawer space. Linen was changed daily. (we have often had to live out of suitcases in other hotels due to lack of space for clothes!) Food was excellent and catered for all tastes. Plenty of sun beds - we always managed to get some, even though there were Germans staying too! Pool was fabulous and there was plenty of activities for kids. Resort: Despite signs up re. dog fouling, there was an awful lot of it on pavements and you had to be extremely careful where you walked, especially at night. The beach was very clean, except for fag ends, and the sea wonderful. If I return it will have to be soon, before too many people learn about it and it becomes too dense with hotels and holidaymakers.
