Absolutely Awful!
I spent seven nights at the Hotel Chamois in January 2008. Having traveled all over the world I was shocked and horrified that Alpine Elements had the cheek to use the term “Hotel” for what can only be described as a run down Hostel! Alpine elements describe this hotel as “basic but comfortable”. The term “tired and falling apart” would have been more appropriate. On arrival we were allocated a room which had only a cheap and nasty wardrobe suitable for the belongings of a small child. The lever on the hot water tap was missing... more
Management response from JamesHardiman

From James Hardiman CEO Alpine Elements Group Ltd Dear All Indeed there has been bad management in the past with the Hotel Chamois but I am confident that we have resolved this issue with a new management structure. It is worth noting that we have overhauled many of the hotel’s systems including 75,000 Euros spent on the hot water system and other items in the Hotel. We have been very honest about the hotel’s flaws on our website. Indeed, the Chamois offers comfortable and very convenient ski accom, it is well run, clean and very friendly not to mention excellent value which is something all our returning guests appreciate. I read also that our staff have been an issue. Indeed, the sort of staff our industry attracts is indeed of the younger variety and we, like all Tour Operators, have a reasonable turnover of season workers. In times past I will admit we have been caught out and have had to “make do” with substandard staff, and I will apologise first hand to clients that may have experienced this. Moving forward, this is something that all us TO’s are now having to provision for, thus we do not expect to be in a similar situation for forthcoming seasons. Naturally, our training is very thorough and we as a company care a great deal. There maybe some isolated cases where some of our weaker members of staff have not cleaned to our standards or indeed left us in the lurch by quitting without notice! I have stated this before, and I feel it needs reiterating. If guests have an issue we want to know immediately! We now offer a 24 hour emergency number and even a dedicated “Complaints” email. Please call us - we encourage feedback! And I would dearly love to hear of all gripes as they appear so we can sort them for you on the day! Please understand – we are an independent company, small enough to care, and we do! Enjoy the snow this year, it is shaping up to be a wonderful season… James

ok as a base for sport
This is a 2star hotel aimed specifically at providing basic accommodation for those enjoying sun or winter sports. It is a base and incidental to the reason why you are there. Exclusively for Alpine Elements it is staffed by friendly enthusiastic young people many of which actively partake in the seasonal sport. There is a basic bar and an eating area, a large barn type affair at the back used as a bike workshop (with 2/3 resident mechanics). Bikes are kept in this area. Rooms are not for the choosy, they are reasonable size, fairly poor... more
Dreadful Hotel
This is the worst Hotel I have ever stayed in. If you like to ski all day you can wave goodbuy to a hot shower or bath when you get back as there was never any hot water after 5.00pm! The decor is outdated and many of the rooms do not have enough hanging / storage space so you have to live out of your suit case! You can hear through the walls - I had the pleasure of being woken up regularly by staff walking up the stairs late at night to there rooms and people having conversations in bedrooms two doors away from my room! The food was... more
Basic but very cosy and good value
I personally would say that the hotel was a nicely run property and does what it says on the tin. True it may not be premier quality but Alpine Elements sell it for a good price and staff it with a nice bunch. If you want good food, good company, ensuite accommodation and convenient skiing then you cant go too wrong with this one. ps - The walk from the hotel takes me no more than 5 mins to the slopes.
Noisy and dated!
Les Gets resort is nice however, make sure you have snow as its very low and even after two whole days of snow, we then had rain for three days that washed away the snow! You can ski easily to Morzine and across to Avoriaz if the weather is good which does give you a good ski area. As for the Hotel Chamois, it is a five minute walk into central town and 10 mins to the main ski lift. It is definitely no more than a 2* hotel, small rooms, very dated and very basic hotel. Unfortunately, it is not the place to stay after a hard days... more
