Dated but bearable

Aug 2011, Katie

I read the reviews before i came on holiday and panicked but it isnt that bad. The main problem i had with the apparment was the extra costs and the mis-selling of it. It was advertised to have a fully equipped kitchen and we had a cupboard with a couple of hob rings and a mini fridge. A friend i made on holiday had a room with an oven in though so it does depend on the room. It was also sold to me under the impression it had air conditioning, we didnt even have a choice of it and some people were offered it for 10/12 euros a day. It was far too hot to sleep at night without it and we had to buy a fan at 5 euros a day. It didnt help much. Ants were also a problem but its spain so you expect it. Apart from these problems, for the price we paid, it was fine. The beds were comfy (but if your on a sofa bed, this is not the case!) the view was beautiful and the area was far nicer than i anticipated. If you are looking for a club filled, typically ibizan holiday portinatx isn't for you but the beautiful bay is a lovely holiday destination.

Had a great Holiday

Aug 2011, happy hols

Just back from a lovely weeks holiday at the Del Rey with my daughter and 14 month grandson. Yes had read the reviews and thought omg what have i done, but honestly we arrived and yes the apartments are dated, but our room overlooked the bay with a lovely view. The apartment was clean, maid service every other day. My grandson was poorly and had to visit the doctor who was very friendly and on site 24 hours, was great with the follow up.The staff were polite, friendly and helpful the Real Restaurant made special meals for my grandson and were more than happy to do this. We had no problems with ants! The pool area was very clean plenty of loungers, The beach just across the road was beautiful, would recommend glass bottom boat trip and Vincents Bar. Portinax is a beautiful and relaxing place and we had a great holiday, Cant believe some of the reviews were talking about the same place!

Great holiday

Jul 2011, ally

I stayed at the Del Rey from 6th july till the 13th july 2011. I was quite worried as i had read some reviews that werent so good, but the apartment we had was lovely and spotless, with a balcony over looking the beach, it was a stunning view and no ants!! The pool area was spotless, plenty of loungers and the bar was great for snacks. The only problem was having to pay an extra 10euros a day for the air conditioning which i wasnt happy about but after 2 days without it i gave in and paid for it for the remainder of the holiday as it was too warm to sleep at night. Portinax is a very quiet place with only spar super markets and a couple of souviners shops!! I would have liked to have seen more at night but it took the whole of 15mins to walk round the area and there wasnt much to look at!! The restaurant Cafe Real attached to the apartments is lovely with reasonable price food and very friendly staff, and you also get a 5% discount if staying at the Del Rey. Would recommend this for those who want a quiet holiday but also have to be fit as it can be quiet hilly.

  • Advice: Free air conditioning!!!

Just came back from portinatx ibiza stayed at del rey apartments, not as bad as some of the reviews but still not the best place to stay. We got put in room 39 studio room, DONT let them put you in this room it is terrible, view from balcony is wall covered in trees and side of hotel, no light comes in so you have to have lights on all time so it gets really hot and no air comes in because of walls, aiso if you have young children like me berries fall of the trees on to balcony and my son went to eat one. Manager is not friendly if you complain but was happy enough after he made us pay 30 euros to change room. I think the hotel are trying to make extra money because another family had paid to be removed from the same roon a couple of days before we arrived. If you lucky to get room at the front they are quite nice when we moved into it we could start to relax more because didn't have to stress everytime we went to room. Hotel fairly clean, clean towels twice a week bet changed once, no ants and the best part of hotel was pool although there are quite a few stairs to clime lift only goes so far.

I read loads of reviews after I'd already booked the holiday and was very nervous about going after reading some people's comments. I was very pleasantly surprised! The apartments are fairly basic but really clean. We stayed a one bedroom apartment and had an amazing view of the beach. The staff were lovely - no sign of ants at all!
The beach is amazing and so close. I guess if you want amazing facilities it's not for you - but then what do you expect for the money!

Me, my husband and 3 boys have just come back from the Del Rey in Ibiza and it was fantastic. The Hotel itself was very clean and the rooms were very spacious. The restaurant was superb and the staff were really friendly. Portinatx itself was breathtaking with stunning beaches and such a relaxed attitude. Would definitely recommend for families. We asked Thomas Cook for somewhere quiet and family orientated and that is exactly what they found.

I went with my friend for a relaxing holiday by the beach. The location was great as it was right next to the beach and the pool was lovely. However you had to walk up about 3 flights of stairs and through the hotel complex to get to it. Our room was very disappointing, it was very hot, the fan we had to pay for didn't cool us down at all and the view from our balcony was a brick wall. Also the safe was in reception which was closed in the middle of the day and on tuesdays.
In addition if you wanted to stay in on a night time there was nothing to do because there was no TV or anything. And on one of the evenings our electricity went out and they couldn't fix it for a couple of hours.
I was thoroughly disappointed as it could have been a lovely holiday if the hotel was better. The only really good thing about it was that the staff were really nice.

i went to del rey apartments in september with my partner and my two 16 year old children, when we arived to our room we was disapointed as it looked nothing like the pictures shown! we rearanged the room and made it look abit more resonable, a few days past and on the third day we started to notice ants in our suitcases! and I know its normal to get a few ants as you are in a hot country, but this was like a nest of ants so we asked for a change of rooms , and thier response was "we give you ant powder" i was furious and demamnded a change of room as i was 4 months pregnant and it was not hygrenic at all. In the end they decided to change us to a different room when we arrived it was a lovely room and very clean, the only problem was that when my 16 year old daughter looked over the balcony to the apartment below there was two canabis plants growing stunk out the whole room with the heat, and couldnt have the door shut as there was no air con! other than that portinatx is a beautiful place but not very good night life for younguns.

I found this holiday through thomas cook, checked out the resort and the apartments before booking it... Clearly there are alot of mixed reviews but it was cheap and we decided to risk it for a week... Im very glad we did!
There is absolutly nothing wrong with our apartment (my only annoyance was that there was only one powerpoint in our apartment which was in the sort of living area - buy a double adapter thing and problem solved!! Oh and the hot water didnt last long but you just have to be quick!) It was basic, bit old fashioned but thats kinda what spain is all about! There are a few reviews about the staff being unfriendly but we had no problems found them polite around the pool (basically if your rude to them then you should prob expect the same back but just basic manners goes along way! - they seemed to appreciate bringing glasses back to the bar when you left the pool, simple things like that) and in reception very helpful. (And regarding the pool, i heard a few say that it was nothing like the pictures - well actually yes it was, it was nice, very pretty view although i cannot understand why anyone would want to spent the entire hol around the pool when there is a stunning beach so close by!) Del rey is perfectly situated in the resort, you step out of the apartments cross over the road and there's the extremely gorgeous beach. Everything is just around the corner.
However, back to the apartments - I really dont understand how anyone can complain about them, there only 2 or 3 star, it was cheap, you only sleep/shower there and they had everything that you need. Understandably there is probably the odd exeption but if there is a major problem i expect they would sort it (your with thomas cook after all - they have an obligation to make sure that its satisfactory)! Ignore all the negative stuff, just be prepared! you didnt book a 5 star hotel so dont expect one! And i did notice some cheesed off youngsters by the pool - i dont think they realised when they booked ibiza that it wasnt san antonio (much to the relief of most other people!) and expected something more than portinatx had to offer but its a lovely little resort, perfect for one week but maybe not quite enought to keep you entertained for two?! but i would absolutly recomend it!
And go to Vincents bar for the evening entertainment, a bunch of really nice staff!
p.s I absolutly recomend that you take an underwater camera, go to the beach and feed the fish! the water is shallow, warm and absolutly crystal clear. The fish are huge and so many of them it was really amazing to be completely surrounded! (disapointment at the time we did not have the underwater camera - went to ibiza town, got one but the next day it was a bit windy and the water was a bit choppy and not so clear so the pictures didnt come out that well) :-(
Be prepared!!
