This was our second family holiday to the same resort and apartment (previously 2005). We did not expect the second time to be as good as the first, but in many ways it was.
The children love the resort as the sandy beach is only a stones throw away from the hotel and is easy to get to. The hotel staff are very friendly (from the cleaners to the owner - Tony).
Although the apartments are basic, there was still adequate facilities for our needs. Although there are a number of stairs to negotiate before you get to your room, you soon get used to it. The view from the good sized balcony was exceptional.
As we went back at the same time of year as before, we were lucky enough to be there for the Portinatx carnival again, the firework display is worth turning up for.
I can understand how it is not everyone's cup of tea, but if you hire a car like we did, you can explore the whole island at your leisure as there are a lot of interesting places to see.
Also, the whole family made a friend in Juan and his wife, who own the " Pedro's " bar, adjacent to the Del Rey.
We will be looking at returning to the same resort and apartments for our next holiday.

Went to Portinatx near the end of the season with my 2 year old.
The stairs were difficult as we had his pram and our apartment was up at the very top.
The views were lovely especially at night and the accommodation was very clean and had a shower room and a bathroom. Which I found useful as five of us travelled.
The apartment was basic and could have done with a clock. The extractor fan for the kitchen went in fire on our first day there but this was rectified quickly.
The kidney shaped pool was lovely but the kid’s pool had too many rubber rings and balls etc, it was full of them making it had to see what was happening in the pool. The bar man at the pool was very helpful and always seemed happy.
The glass bottom boat took about an hour but was money well spent it has lovely views and you get to feed the fish bread and see the caves.
The hippy market next to the other hotel on a Sunday was basic when we were there, but there was a few bargains we picked up and on the way. We saw orange and lemon trees in the grounds of the other hotel.
I found the food was highly priced compared to other parts of Ibiza and not to my taste as it was a lot of lamb.
Del Boys was good at night but one night the entertainment was delayed for football. Del Boys is family run and all the staff are friendly and prepared for a laugh but as with Vincent’s you have to get in early for a seat as the fill up very quickly.
The beach though very crowded was good and shallow and fish came swimming close.
The rep appeared in a hurry when we met her but came up to the pool side one day and I was able to ask questions then.
Overall I found it as the travel agent said a quiet place to relax.

This was a last minute deal booked directly with Thomas Cook via their website.
We were looking for a quiet, sunny resort with a good standard of accommodation, which is exactly what we received.
Firstly, the flight was absolutely fine, did not pay for the in flight meal so purchased food before the flight, however when on board they were giving meals to everyone, bonus! Very nice meal sausage and omelette, thanks Thomas Cook!
Bit of confusion at the airport with the rep sending us to the wrong coach, but quickly sorted and on our way to Portinatx.
Pleasant 40 minute drive across the island, and could not believe our luck when we first got sight of our resort, extremely beautiful small bay full of boats and a beautiful sandy beach. Just what the doctor ordered.
Upon arrival at the apartments checked in and was extremely impressed with the apartment, large and spacious. Yes a little dark and amber glasses (as review below), but who cares about that? I do not own the place, it's only my home for 7 days!!
Upon opening the balcony we were greeted with a fantastic large balcony and sea-view. Fantastic! I recommend these apartments just for the view.
About the apartments, large swimming pool with plenty of sunbeds. Nice pool bar, drink and snacks available. No other facilities though, but not a problem.
The beach is great, small but you can always find a place to lay out your towel. The water was warm and very clear, plenty of fish to swim with.
I recommend the glass bottom boat ride, one a few euros and it will take you for an hour and a bit. If you do not see any fish, one of the guys will jump in and swim under the boat.
Excursions. Right out side the apartment is a mini train offering local excursions, check the timetable as it does not run every day. We took an excursion to local caves and a church in San Miguel. Multi Lingual guide accompanies you throughout the excursion.
Took one excursion with Thomas Cook, the Sunset cruise from San Antonio (thank god I did not book there, what an awful place full of Brits!). The cruise was great, the guy comparing (Giles, or some other posh English name looked like one of the Bros brother) was very funny. He has obviously been doing the job for many years, probably since the holiday he went on with his mates and never made it back to England.
The only slight criticism of this trip is as being in Portinatx we were the first to be picked up and zig zagged across the island picking clients up from other resorts before we arrived, naturally on the return we were the last to be dropped off.
Evening entertainment in Potinaxt is quite limited but fine for a week. We ate out in a different restaurant every evening, all pretty good meals, with the restaurants with the best views and with the best apartments.
Place to avoid, Vincents Bar and Del Boys, two awful examples of bars full of Brits abroad. One evening I had to carry a drunk brit back to his room after finding him lying by the lift, after finding being dragged along the floor by his young daughter. The following night I made the mistake of visiting one of the above mentioned bars and found the same young daughter lying on the floor drunk, and by the looks of things shortly to be followed by her father. Awful! I wish some Brits would behave themselves abroad.
Flight home. Learnt a lesson from my outbound flight did not buy any food before hand and as before received a free meal we had not paid for. Thanks Thomas Cook.
All in all an excellent holiday, highly recommended.
BTW I am Customer Service Manager for a large British Tour Operator (will not tell you which one!) so I know what I talking about!

The apartment was ok, it was very basic but adequate for our needs. The view from the balcony more than compensated for numerous flights of stairs that had to be negotiated to reach the apartment.
The pool is very good and the pool staff very friendly, reception were also very friendly and helpful. Potinatx itself is very small and quiet, beaches are excellent although you have to get up very early to get a sun lounger.
The best place to eat is Es Grop, everywhere else is pretty average. The best bars are Delboys and Vincents.

We arrived at 6.30am in the morning; well we were dumped actually by the coach driver who pointed to the lift area which confused us all, reps don't accompany you to or from these apartments. We arrived full of expectation and yet so soon were we disappointed.
After searching the complex up four floors by lift, down four by stairs we got separated from the other guests we arrived with and couldn’t find anyone to help us. By 7.50am exhausted from the flight, the stairs and the frustration at not being able to find help etc we finally gave up and phoned the emergency rep for help or a flight home.
A Spanish woman eventually came down to help us (annoyed that she had been disturbed and mumbled some rude remark in Spanish). By 8.10am we had our room. At no time did the rep visit or call us to ask if we were ok and had we been sorted.
The room was as we expected but the view wasn’t - Del Ray advertise their apartments as all having a sea view, very few apartments have a sea view. We had a brick wall and a wall of pine trees. If we looked down from our balcony we had a wonderful view of rubbish and a rusty wheelbarrow.
No air conditioning and tiny windows meant the rooms were like sweat boxes through the night. I think members of their staff had apartments both beside and above us, so we found it quite noisy during the night.
Far too many stairs, dimly lit at night and at times dangerous under foot as steps are not lit very well.
Although there is no denying Portinatx is very beautiful and picturesque, we would also describe it as boring and isolated. Little choice in restaurants and food, very little entertainment. (However the hotel next door, The Presidente rocked every night and adults and kids alike sounded like they were having real fun)
Best part of the holiday was the 2 euros each we spent on a bus into Santa Eulalia which was great for shopping, eating and a great beach too. Definitely a place to visit or stay.
The reps were rarely seen - they advertised a fun session at 3pm at the pool bar on the Saturday but we left at 3.55pm and they still hadn’t arrived. The outings organised by the Tour Operator we very highly overpriced (Ibiza Town 20 euro each but the bus cost about 2 euros).
Weather very hot, sometimes too hot but we are thankful as we would have been banging our heads together stuck inside those apartments all week.
It wasn’t a particularly friendly resort, saving grace were the day and evening Pool bar staff they were an absolute delight.
I don't think I would ever consider going back.

Having bagged a bargain holiday in October 2006 for 7 nights 16-23 May 07 for myself, my partner and our 3 children, I had started to get a little worried as the holiday got nearer as to what would await us.
When we first arrived the receptionist was nowhere to be seen which left us along with about 8 other families hanging around with suitcases, she soon appeared and took all of us in the lift (yes 1 lift!) 2 by 2 plus cases to our appropriate floor, where a chap took us through a maze and series of steps to eventually our apartment.
I was really starting to think I'd 'dropped a clanger' in booking this holiday but I have to say it got much better when we went in and found a quite spacious 2 bed roomed 2 bath roomed apartment. Quite basic but clean, the cooking facilities were limited as there was just a 3 ring gas hob and toaster but it was a bonus that there was an iron and ironing board (not that I did any!).
Lovely pool area, plenty of loungers but obviously we weren’t there in the height of the season. Beautiful resort with 3 or 4 little bays all within walking distance, the larger of them literally across the road from the apartments. Very quiet but again it was early in the season.
We weren’t very impressed with the food, not great portions, not particularly cheap (10% discount offered in the apts restaurant we weren’t impressed at all, I wouldn’t bother!)
Del Boys Bar and Vincent’s (both under the apts) are worth a visit, friendly with various entertainment. We would definitely go back if the price was right!

We visited the Del Rey in August 2006 along with our son and his wife and three small sons.
The resort is pretty and there is plenty to do, although it is one of the smallest resorts on Ibiza.
The beach is not large and unless you are happy to pay for loungers and a parasol space on the beach is limited, however the water is clear and shallow, ideal for toddlers.
The apartments were ok, not plush but not awful. Some rooms are mixed in with private apartments which we found quite noisy and others are not easy to reach being several floors up, there is only one lift going up to the 4th floor, after that there are approx; 5 flights of stairs!
Our rep was fantastic, the best we have ever had, well done JMC.
Over all a very good holiday, so far better than previous ones we have had with Thomson, a company we will not use again.

Upon arrival we queued for the lift, I guess about ten or fifteen minutes. The lift took us to the forth floor, but unfortunately our accommodation was on the sixth, this required us to carry our luggage up four flights of steps, (there was a further floor above our apartment!). We were quite disappointed when opening the door to the apartment, it was dark, (even at 1pm), very grubby and the facilities fell short of reasonable self catering standards. All the plates and dishes etc being amber glass and the cutlery appeared to have been used for some DIY project as most of it was bent and distorted. The frying pan was missing some of the not stick coating and there were no saucepans, everything seemed very well used and needing a good clean. A positive point was the sea view and size of the balcony this was one of the best we've had.
The Real Restaurant, part of the hotel, was again very disappointing, my first order was for a 'T bone' steak, when delivered the discussion with the waiter was reminiscent of Fawlty Towers, all I wanted to know was why the 'T bone' steak hadn't got a 'T bone' in it, however they did agree to change it and the replacement was quite acceptable, priced at 15 euros'.
The resort is isolated and would not be a problem if there was a some remnants of local history, but it all seems to be post 1970 and soulless. There's a small number of places to visit, mainly natural and a little demanding to get to unless of course you hire a car, then you have the whole island to explore.
Pretty much where ever you go in the resort it is up and down a hill or several/many steps to overcome, that’s unless you want to spend the holiday on the beaches, which are very pleasant and clean if a little over crowded. For many reasons, overall the holiday was not a good experience, but again you can't win them all, neither the Del Rey nor the resort can be recommended, both warrant no more than a one star and certainly don't present anywhere near good value for money. However the sun did shine there most of days, if it hadn't we would have spent most of the holiday in the dismal accommodation.

Just returned from a week with 2 teenage daughters. The resort has little to offer children so they spent most of their time in pool or on beach. The weather was fantastic almost too hot at times and as our apartment had no air conditioning we had to sleep with patio doors open every night, not a problem for us as we were on top floor. Top floor apartments lovely for the views across the bay but lots of stairs which in the heat were exhausting.
Apartment was very basic with limited cooking facilities, just gas rings. Spotlessly clean on arrival and excellent maid service during the week. Reception staff very helpful and obliging.
Portinatx as a whole beautiful if you are looking for a very quiet holiday, beaches are very clean and safe. Restaurants tend to be very over-priced compared to other resorts in Ibiza and car hire not the cheapest.
Overall a lovely week but wouldn’t choose to holiday as a family in Portinatx again as it is too far out with limited entertainment.

The holiday brochure was correct when it said there were quite a few stairs you have to be fit to use these apartments. The apartments were clean well kept and if you had a problem it was dealt with within the hour. The restaurant with the apartments was clean and the menu was basic.
The overall area was pleasant with very good restaurants two bays on the beach the one further away from the hotel was the better not so many people. The Germans and Dutch stayed away further down the road in there own hotel and beach which suited everyone.
On the whole the holiday was very good apartments well kept reps very good all the team came from just outside London. Not very much to do at night. Its a family resort quite well kept and clean.

very boring, absolutley nothing to do,no entertainment during the day and only a choice of two bars at night, very nice beaches and friendly people.resturants very over priced and not great food, wanted to come home after a day.there was alot of stairs to get to your apartment and the pool and with it being so hot it was very tiring, there was also no air con in the room so had to sleep with balcony doors open which then led to ants.the hotel was not that clean the toilet had poo down it on arrival.the barman at th e pool followed my sister who was 17 at the time and she was then very worried to go to the pool,i would NEVER go back to portinax and this holiday actually put me of ibiza.
