Kavos is a wonderful place for the young and single, but not so brilliant for those seeking some traditional Greek culture. However, there were several agents that provided trips by boat to the mainland and other sites of cultural interest, so it’s good to know that’s it’s available if you want it.
Don’t rely on the bus that travels to Corfu town from Kavos as we found this service to be sporadic at best, other more concrete arrangements are advised.
The beach is quite nice, but there isn’t a lot of it. A particularly nice bar on the beach front is the 'After' bar which is open 24 hours and is a great place to be to watch the sunrise.
If you have the chance you should also visit the foam party-it was a really fun experience, but don’t take anything valuable as chances are it’s likely to get very wet!
Make sure you make full use of safety deposit boxes if they are provided by your tour operator, and if they aren’t go and find one. We were burgled and had our mobile phones stolen as well as a sum of money. If you are travelling with TUI don’t rely on the reps for any help, they were abysmally useless and we have complained to TUI about the lack of help that was available to assist with our dealings with the police (which incidentally was horrible and very stressful).
The one restaurant you should AVOID at all costs is 'The Rooftop', it’s a lovely location, but the food is really, really terrible, probably the worst I’ve ever had. There are a couple of really great restaurants you should try and visit, ROUSSOS is a family run traditional Greek place right on the beach. The food is superb and is very reasonably priced. The family are very welcoming and will make you feel right at home. You can also purchase home made wine made by the owner very cheaply and it really is worth it. The other definite place to visit is a Tex-Mex restaurant called the DRUNKEN SQUID its a little more expensive but you get what you pay for. the best tex-mex food and some of the best food I’ve ever tasted. Excellent service and huge portions. You can also try the sister restaurant next door called PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON which is a Chinese and Indian influenced restaurant and the food is excellent.
One thing to add, if you are travelling there, avoid going with TUI (Thompson/Lunn Poly) because they do not have their customers interests at heart.
