7 nights at the Alexander in the middle of July. 3 decent sized pools - plenty of sunbeds available throughout the day, even though the hotel was fully booked. Ideally located near to the bars and restaurants, and only a ten minute walk to the main strip. Food served at the... more

I was advised this was a lively hotel before booking to my horror it was a party hotel on arrival. Music still playing at reception at 6am in the morning, teenagers lying about the couches. This hotel is ideal for 18-20somethings who want to party. Definitly not a family... more

Every write up about this hotel prior to our holiday was pretty bad and made us anxious going out there as to what to expect. The truth is, you should always base your holiday on your own experience. I went out here with my partner and we could't fault a thing about it.... more

absoloutley fabulous
we arrived at the hotel 7am, were abit put off by the way the staff treated us, we since found out the had been at work since 6 o'clock the night before and were very tired. we were checked in as soon as we got there and taken straight to our rooms by the security guard. i was very worried before we arrived, as i had read some bad reviews on here. the rooms were abit small but we could live in them for 2weeks, we had air con(50euros a week) ,tv, fridge, and a nice bathroom so we wer very pleased, i was actually relieved :o) and the maid cleaned them and changed the bedding and towels everyday-as long as you leave your key at reception. we spent most of our days by the pool or at the beach as the weather was so hot! they had 2 big pools and 2 small pools which were nice and clean and we saw the pool man cleaning them every night. after a few nights out on the strip we decided to stay in the hotel bar one night which is where we became friends with dimitris he was very friendly and gave us loads of free drinks obviously we repaid him with drinks and cigarettes but he was very kind and saved us some money :o) we also made friends with another guy behind the bar - alex we all had a good laugh and we ended up having a few drinks before we went out and when we came in every night after that. they had a bbq every saturday(15euros each) with all you can eat and some entertainment which was a bellydancer it was quite good although 1 of the 3 dogs that the manager owns didnt take very nicely to her and kept barking at her which made everybody laugh. the manager was a very friendly guy he gave my boyfriend his cap when he had sunburn on his head and gave us some free drinks as we were lay at the poolside. although he could be very funny towards the end of the night but we put it down to tiredness. the day we were leaving we had to be out of the hotel at 10-we wernt sure if it was 10 or 12 but we left at 10 anyway, this was the only bad day we had as our flight wasnt till 7am the next morning. we stayed in the hotel all day in the bar area watching a film and reading are magazines we bought from the shop there. i have to say we were glad when the bar opened at 6pm as dimitris and alex cheered us up from our long tiring day. we will definatley be going again next year as we had such a fun time and i wouldnt listen to any of the bad reviews on here, it only makes you worry when i dont think ther is anthing to worry about at all.
great hotel!!
we booked are holiday package with thomas cook in may, to stay in alexander hotel. When we read some rewiews about this hotel i was a bit wary as all the reviews were mixed. When we got there the island its self didnt look all that, Alexander hotel is a great hotel. the staff are really friendly. the rooms are basic but get cleaned and new sheets everyday which is good, the hotel is clean and tidy. The bar is open till 8am every mornin but you cant hear it from your room! it is a great hotel and lively, it has daily activites including water arobics etc. It has a games room which is good and 3 pools, the pools were very clean. the majority of people we met this year was staying at alexander as it is the biggest hotel on the island of zante, it had 175 rooms. The hotel is very safe and NO-one staying at the hotel is allowed to bring people back so its all good. i am definatly going back to this hotel next year and i would recommed it, there was groups of people stayin in this hotel, couples and fmailes with young children. There is things to do for the children, but It can be noisy at night, as people do tend to get home between the hours or 3-9am as the clubs close at 4am 7am and 8am.
Clean but extremely noisey!!
When we arrived we were very pleased with the hotel, as we were a little worried after reading some negative comments about this hotel on the internet. However, the problem we did have was on several nights, we got woken up by really loud, drunken youngsters running up and down the corridors and knocking on our and other peoples doors!! Now we totally understand that people are going to get loud and come in to the hotel in the small hours of the morning but this one night/morning we experienced was horrrible!! The 2 guys and 2 girls from the room next to us decided to extend their drinking evening from the outside bars to continuing it back at their hotel room, so from 1am to 7.30am!! we had non-stop loud music blasting, they got over the balcony and smashed up our patio chairs! They even started running their bath tap to try and flood their own room!!!!!!!!!!!and they were running around on the roof ledge outside our room!! They just reminded me of a bunch of wild Gremlins!! Honestly, it was really awful and the staff were rubbish with dealing with the incident, and when we, along with others complained about it to the chap at reception in the morning, he just couldn't be bothered and didn't even want to tell us what time the manager was back in so we could complain to him!! Definately not a hotel for young couples - we like having a good laugh and getting drunk ourselves, but this hotel was far too much, it was unbelieveably noisey and the fact that most of the corridors are tiled and only have a small area of carpet just amplifies the noise of drunken "gremlins" screaming and running even more!! So for groups of Lads and Ladettes its gonna be fine, but for young couples who do want at least 5 hours sleep ITS DEFINATELY NOT FOR YOU.
Alexander is fine.
Despite some comments about this hotel, Alexander is perfectly ok. If you're young, on a budget and up for a laugh then Alexander is great. The staff were always helpful and it is in a great location. It seemed to be where the majority of people stayed. The late night bar was particularly good after a night out.
Didn't want to come home!
Stayed in the Alexander for 2 wk at the end of july 05 and had a fab holiday, so much that i didn't want to come home and will certainly be going back next year. Rooms are basic but have everything you need. It has 3 swimming pools with the new main one having a young and lively atmosphere, the entertainer Mike is fantastic and sets up a daily water activities, as well as a greek all you can eat and drink BBQ on a saturday night. The hotel staff and reps were really friendly and welcoming and sorted out any problems we had straight away. Met some great people and can't wait to get back there next year.
so wrong!
i have to say that after booking my holiday last year i looked up the alexander hotel and read some of the reviews which were not really the best! i was a bit worried about staying there to say the least, but when we arrived we were checked in quickly, all the staff were polite and helpful and our room was clean and tidy. we didnt have any problems while we were there and although this isnt a 5 star hotel it suited us just fine,so much so that we are staying there again this yr!
Great Hotel, Great Place
I had a great time at this hotel, the people were lovely the view of the pool was lovely. The food was great i am now about ten pounds over weight. The weather was great and i am going back next year.
Discrace!!!
I went to this hell hole in 2004, although the clubs and bars were amazing, the hotel was a disgrace. As soon as we arrived we were met by a man with hardly any manners and a mullet. We proceeded to call this man 'Mr Majeka'. Oor romms were disgusting and we found someone has punched holes in our bathroom door. Our firgdes were warm and the shower was cold and had a yellowish tint. Although we complained to our rep, the staff of the hotel were still rude. Theswimming pool had dead animals floating around the surface, and used condoms were scattered over the sunbeds. I am appalled at the bar staff's attitude towards women, it was disgusting!!!! On the final day the manager retained our suitcases as he thought it would be 'fun'! We did not find this amusing and our reps had to seduce him to get our suitcases back. I am horrified at the extent of the treatment at which me and my chums were subjected to. I f you are thinking of staying at this hotle please be prepared for vast amounts of abuse, mistreatment and non-snity driniking water. To top this all off, on our departure of the hotel we were blamed for the damage done to the door, and has to pay 300 euros for its repair. I am utterly disgusted to this very day. I would very much like the manager to contact us if he disagrees with any of our comments.
been twice and loved it!
been twice, august 2002 weather great, family entertainment good, when it was all inclusive food was great. september 2003 rained a bit, but sun was hot in daytime, still came away with good tan,Laganas nightlife very good, saw a few turtles in sea, bit scary, going again may 2005, hoping it is still as good.
Holiday from hell
On the 20th August 2004 I traveled as part of a Sunset package holiday with Thomas Cook to the Hotel Alexander in Laganas, Zakynthos (Zante). On arrival we were appalled at the inadequate service we received and the general standard of the hotel. After the long flight we were faced with a queue to check in. After 30 minutes we were shown along corridors which resembled a prison wing to our room. After struggling with the lock to open the room we were confronted with the dark and dingy prison like cell. The ground floor room opened out on to a patio area which overlooked broken fences, rubble and unused building materials. Security was inadequate and we were forced to keep the doors closed at all times in fear of burglary. The kitchenette was greasy, unhygienic and nauseating. The draws had rotting crumbs and the work surfaces were not fit to prepare dog food on. The bathroom was also substandard and the drains really smelt. Also the television did not work, the floors were not properly cleaned, the wardrobe smelt too musty to put our clothes in. The room was only catering for two people as there were only two outside chairs and two bath towels. During a walk around the hotel I saw the swimming pool was dirty and the edges were covered with litter. The staff were generally not very helpful. We complained persistently to our rep and we were told that we could be moved to another hotel for an additional fee. We asked the representative for a price as we were not willing to stay in the hotel for any longer than was necessary. After phoning the headquarters the rep told us we could move free of charge to another hotel. During our holiday at the second hotel we were told that we would have to vacate our rooms at noon on the 26th August in advance of our 7am return flight on the 27th August resulting in another day of our holiday being lost. Apparently this is Sunset holidays policy! Basically if you don’t have any standards you might like it. If we didn’t change hotel it would have definitely been a holiday from hell!
