Perfect for a lads holiday!

7 nights at the Alexander in the middle of July. 3 decent sized pools - plenty of sunbeds available throughout the day, even though the hotel was fully booked.
Ideally located near to the bars and restaurants, and only a ten minute walk to the main strip.
Food served at the hotel was a little expensive but there a wide selection. Breakfast was pretty awful though.
We were getting in from nights out at 7/8am, meaning we slept til 1. This meant that we missed the cleaner most days. When she did come, she did a great job.
Really cannot complain about this hotel. Staff were excellent, other guests were friendly.
I've been to much more expensive hotels and been given worse service than I received here.
This really is the place to stay if you're away on a lads/girls holiday!!

  • Advice: Make use of the surrounding supermarkets for essentials like water, alcohol and cigarettes to save a few quid.

I was advised this was a lively hotel before booking to my horror it was a party hotel on arrival. Music still playing at reception at 6am in the morning, teenagers lying about the couches.
This hotel is ideal for 18-20somethings who want to party. Definitly not a family hotel.
You are issued with one key card for the room when the young ones were returning to the hotel in the early hours of the morning and didn't have their key they would just bang on the doors till their mates let them in.
I can't fault the hotel for keeping my room clean, this was done every day.
The menu was poor, this never changed, no variety all though they did make it fresh when you ordered if you like pizzas, burgers, filled pitta breads.A small list of main meal favourites;roast chicken, steak, fish & chips, cottage pie. Nothing greek.
They have 3 pools but only one was filled when my family was there and the hotel was full.

  • Advice: Alexander is central for all amenities but only suitable for 18-20somethings
  • Good For: Beach

Me and 3 friends went to Zante in aug 2009 and stopped here. read the reviews first and thought what have we let ourselves in for! But once we arrived our minds were totally put at rest! it was a warm welcome from the staff with a free shot at reception, there was lively tourist still sat in the 24hr bar at 6 in the morning, its definatly the place to stop in Laganas if you are up for a lively fun holiday with friends! Some of the cleaners were moody and didnt really speak english but our rooms were kept relitavly clean considering the mess we all made! the rooms are basic but you don't need a 5* room if youre only gonna sleep in it! it also has 2 pools, one thats lively with music constantly playing and a bar that serves food and the other a more quiet one known as the hangover pool! staff are always on hand if you need them and with 2euro cocktails at the bar it was definatly the place to start your night. Would recommend this hotal and definatly want to go back! :)))

Visited the Alexander Hotel August 2010 was worst 2 weeks of my life . Never felt so ashamed being from Liverpool and the disgusting behaviour of scousers and cockneys. All poeple want to do is fight vomit and wee in the pools . Hotel is no way a 4 star as advertised in Thomas Cook Brochure I wouldnt give it a sticker its that appauling. Food disgusting pools disgusting and rooms to small. Visited with family 2 18 yr old and 1 teenager and family very lively will never get a sleep best sleeping of a day when all the young one are and getting up in the night with them.Zante is lovely resort and lively with nice people who live there but I wouldnt go back if It was given 2 me free.

Me and a few friends stayed here in July and had the best time here!!!! Hotel is filled with young people so it's always lively and fun!! The pools were big and always lively even during the day! Rooms were basic but clean. The staff were really nice and gave us free shots regularly!! The security guard however was a bit too friendly!! Was situated near good bar such as Local's Bar which does lots of deals on drink :) Not that far a walk from the main strip so wasn't that difficult to get home, even when extremely wasted! Would recommend this Hotel for a young grouup of people looking to have lots of fun! Zante was the absolute best!

My husband nd i stayed here for 10 nights in september 2010.first 4 days were great.peaceful,relaxing.we were advised that although the brochure said young and lively, the hotel would be quiet as it was near the end of the season.on the 5th day of our holiday 400 slovenian students descended on us!!!!!!! party party!!!!! doors banged all night.music blared.shouting.running along corridors.absolutely no chance of a sleep.complaints were not taken seriously by management.they stayed for a week, then another 400 students arrived!!!!!!absolute nightmare. To top it all, the sight of rats at pool and in garden was the last straw for us!!!!!

Every write up about this hotel prior to our holiday was pretty bad and made us anxious going out there as to what to expect. The truth is, you should always base your holiday on your own experience. I went out here with my partner and we could't fault a thing about it. The hotel was fantastic, a lot going on for everyone, pool area was stunning, rooms clean and faultless and the people were more than friendly. The location was just under 10 minutes from all the nightlife but still quite central. The maids were cleaning every day without fail and everything as far as we were concerned was very safe despite what we read from previous reviews.
I would definitly recommend this hotel.

Not a Family Hotel
1 / 10
Aug 2010, Stavross

Dont go to the Alexander if you have kids or young teenagers. This hotel is not suitable for anyone apart from lager louts or Chavs. The rooms are substandard for most humans. Sleep is impossible. The pool is at best unsafe. On arrival people asleep in the halls. all night shouting, door banging and swearing
We stayed 1 night of the 10 payed for, but ended up funding accomodation ourselfs and were able to travel around the island. It acually turned out to be perfect holiday - no thanks to Alexander.
Highly recomend Families not stay here

Alexander Hotel

Aug 2010, Watchdog

It was one of the most intimidating places i have ever been. I saw a sercurity guard and man beating two lads with sticks by my hotel room, As theyre were leaving the hotel because they were at the wrong hotel. Without doing no harm at all!! Witnessed with my own eyes!!
Its a total disgrace!
A young girl was moved to another hotel because she felt threatened by sercurity.
The rooms wasnt very clean and were small. Health and saftey theres no such thing! The food was awful!
Many people around lagnas said, that alexander has got a name for itself.
Total disgrace
Should be shut down! Someone should look into it!

Were do I start. This hotel has major safety issues. After been there a couple of days a fire broke out around 2am in the generator room, the hotel soon filled with smoke, but NO alarm went off. Someone went round banging on peoples doors saying “fire get out”, we didn’t take much notice has people were banging on doors every night/morning anyway, but when the fire engine turned up outside our room we thought we better check out what was going on. Total pandemonium, no organisation, NO fire alarm, none of the fire doors closed which they should do when a fire is on going, and it took them one hour before they decided to move us out of the car park onto the road out side (someone said they were worried that it would blow up because they couldn’t find the gas valve and turn it off) the police arrived one hour later, but they never knew anything about the fire but came to attend to a young lass who had been attacked with a knife just round the corner of the hotel and they tried to get us all to go back into the hotel until we told them the hotel was on fire.
Several people had said they smashed the fire alarm buttons but none of them worked, and the Thomas Cook reps didn’t seem too interested anyway, and was told because it was an electrical fault the alarms would not work anyway, rubbish, most fires lead to electrical faults. After 4 hours we were given the all clear to go back in the hotel, and offered a free drink at the bar, it was the last thing we wanted, no apology about what had gone on.
Around 8.30am the maintenance men decided it was a good time to test the fire alarms, we had only been in bed around 3 hours they took several of the fire sensors down off the ceiling. Later in the day all the fire doors were shut throughout the hotel, the magnets that hold them open were not working. When we came in the next morning some of the fire doors was wedged open with cardboard, (always a good idea if they won’t stay open”. The next day when this wasn’t working well they decided to hold them open with some wire wrapped around the magnets that hold them open (oh yes and I have photos to prove it) they were like that for the rest of the week and still like that when we came home.
Ok the safety of this hotel is in question, what about the rest. Well young adults were running a mock around the hotel early hours of the morning shouting, banging on doors, jumping over balconies and has for the security man I had to have a word with him to also keep the noise down, has he was making more noise shouting at the kids than the kids were, he promised to keep the noise down around our room.
The good points; must say though our maid was great we asked for more chairs and coat hangers and she had them to our room within minutes and she kept the room clean every day, but we did hear that some people had problems with there maids where they said they had there I-Pods and Clothing stolen.

Local bar owners we talked too were not surprised about the stories about this hotel and said it did have a bad name in the resort; never again would I ever stay at this place and I would say they same for anyone else thinking of staying there.
