I and my girlfriend decided to go to...
6 / 10
Jan 2007, Mr Sga Wilson

I and my girlfriend decided to go to Faliraki as she had been there the year before with her friend.
When she had been there previously, it was in late October which was closed season but she really enjoyed it and wanted to go back.
We decided to do the young couple thing and go with club 18-30 on a last minute deal, which I must admit was really cheap.
We wondered why our apartments were called the Hillside and went we got there we knew exactly why. The hill to get up to the apartments was like the travelator at the end of gladiators, by the time we left our calf muscles were huge.
Apart from that, they were in a good location, not to far away from the action but not to close and if you couldn't be bothered to climb the hill you could easily get a taxi which was cheap enough.
There were two main streets in Faliraki each lined with an array of pubs, restaurants and clubs. My perception of Faliraki was put there by watching the TV series club reps, in which scores of young men and women were forced to join in with drinking games with the holiday reps.
As soon as we had are arrival meeting the reps explained how it was nothing like that and my mind was put to rest quickly. One thing I did hate about the reps is that they tried to get you to sign up for all the events.
Me and my girlfriend decided not to which luckily worked out really well as we liked to work to our own time tables. We found out that everything the reps were charging for, was way over priced and if you wanted to do it off your own bat it was a lot cheaper.
The beach was great, no rubbish and beautiful clear waters. If you weren't wearing something on your feet it was a nightmare trying to walk across the sand.
We really spent most of our time sitting around the pool; one in particular was the Orion. It had a Jacuzzi, good sized pool, plenty of sun loungers and a good pool side bar.
There wasn't one day when the weather was below 30 degrees, if you like getting a tan during the day and partying at night then it’s excellent.
If you want to relax and chill out then this isn't the place to be, maybe Rhodes town up the road is more your thing.
Another thing is money, since the euros came into effect you can no longer go on a cheap holiday.
Overall the weather was great; nightlife was great, money spent bad, food bad and the reps terrible.

What a joke! My first and last...
1 / 10
Sep 2006, Miss S Sullivan

What a joke!
My first and last "Girlie" holiday. Nothing to do with the company I was keeping, the place was a dirty, smelly, dive of an "apartment complex".
We got there at 6am and got introduced to our "room". It was literally next door to the big bins. We had two big cockerels that lived outside our door, that’s unless we opened it and then they came in and messed everywhere, and I mean number 2's! Once they were in, there was no getting rid of them either, I didn't need to take my alarm clock after all!
This wasn’t a room fit for them to live in never mind us.
We saw the maid half an hour after we got there the 1st day, for some reason they decided our clean bedding needed changing when we got there. That was the last we so of her! Oh I do apologise, she came again the day after, when we were fast asleep and let herself in, we went mad and told her to go.
The pool area was ok when we were there, but between mama hillside, the little scratty looking dog. Oh and lets not forget the baby chickens, which lived on the counter in the shop "mini-mart" Ha! Ha! If you have ever been there you will know why I am laughing, to put it bluntly it was a rip off, dirty, dingy shop.
The whole place was dirty, the only plus of the whole week was the beautiful weather.
For the last 2 days I was ill, just thinking I must have had a bit of sun stroke, i just slept constantly. We had a 12hr wait till we got our lift to airport and all i did was sleep on our cases in the room they provided for everyone to store there belongings.
You could guarantee "every night" we would have to try and get ready in the dark because the electric went on the whole hillside apartment. We thought it was funny at first but not after a while.
I came home with a virus called "Quincy." I got home to my partner on the Saturday, ended up in hospital by Sunday night on 2 drips for 3 days and 3 nights, couldn’t eat, drink, swallow, nothing.
It was supposed to be the holiday I’ve always dreamed off, I left my partner at home with our children expecting to have the time of my life, relax, not worrying about normal life and let my hair down. All I did was spend way too much money, mostly on taxi's to get from a to b because there was no way 2 females could walk back and forth from there, it was to dark and dangerous, hardly any street lights, no side to walk on, so cars were just flying round corners or should I say taxis.
All I can say is we got ripped off totally, I was gutted and when I ended up having to have another week of work due to being hospitalized it just summed it all up.
Good luck! That’s for any-one who has booked to stay there or is thinking about it, we didn’t book it because it was cheap, (I don't call over £300 each, for 1 week cheap would you?) it was because it was the only holiday available at the time.

I can only describe this place as...
1 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr Dave Brett

I can only describe this place as SHOCKING! When we booked we were told it was a 5 minute walk to the beach & a 10 minute walk to the town centre. We were in fact nowhere near either!. It was at least a 25 minute walk into the town & over 30 minutes to the beach.
The complex itself was an absolute DUMP. The rooms were disgusting, tiny and basic. The door to the apartment was loose & wouldn't shut properly. We reported this on day 1 but it was never fixed. The balcony door lock was also broken & had been replaced with a small latch which could be opened up from the outside- Very secure!!.
There were no safes in the rooms, only a small safety deposit box in the shop, which you could only get to during the shops opening hours!!! When we had our introduction on the first morning we were told that the woman who runs the shop would give us a 'special price'..........I'd have dreaded to see the normal prices!
She charged 1 euro for a bottle of water which was 30 cents at the supermarket at the bottom of the road. We were also told that we had to buy all our food & drink on the complex due to tax laws and we mustn't bring anything back from the outside- Any excuse to get more money out of us!!

On the back of every door there was a price list telling you the cost of replacing broken/lost items in your room. These were so far out it was a beyond a joke. It said that if you lost your key it was 5 euros to replace it. 3 people I knew lost their keys & were told unless they handed over 60 euros they would not get back in their rooms.
Another lad got a bit of blood on the sheet and had to hand over 60 euros even though it was listed as 14 euros for a clean sheet. The maids turned up once in the whole time we were there. They emptied the bins. Threw all my mates wet clothes in my suitcase, changed the sheets & went. They refused to clean anything up (Maids that refuse to clean...new one on me!).
On our neighbours last night they had a food fight and threw spag bol everywhere, including our balcony- the maids wanted us to pay 60 euros to clean it up...even though they knew we didn't make the mess!
The pool was never cleaned in all the time we were there. Towards the end of the week you couldn't actually see the bottom of it! Most people ended up with ear infections which were put down to the dirty pool.
The only good thing about the whole holiday were the people we met. If we hadn't have met them I really don't think we would have lasted the week!
All in the place is a DIRTY, UNHYGENIC DUMP & I would never go back there again. Faliraki is great for young people but the Hillside Apartments are just DISGUSTING.

Accommodation The Apartments are...
2 / 10
Jul 2006, Mr JP Holroyd

Accommodation
The Apartments are cheap for a reason! In the middle of no-where. You are told 25mins from resort centre, which is true, 25 mins through back streets, and up a big hill, not nice in hot weather. Your alternative is a 5euro taxi, which soon adds up. The rooms are ok, but don't expect a hot shower unless you take one at 5pm. They also get very hot, but no fans available, however beware opening your door because you can only sleep from 6-10am because of the noise. Cleaners come when you are in bed so your room doesn't get cleaned! The on-site supermarket is a rip-off, but the only one close, so again takes all your money! Around the pool there are not enough loungers for the amount of people, but no alternative pool is close.
Excursions/Trips
As you'd expect they are a rip off. Any free bar trips are a waste of time eg 1 hour free bar which took 25 mins to get served, and of course its only local beers and lagers! Try find out from the reps where they go and go for free! Any entrance fees are small, and you'll save a packet!
Bars/Clubs
Start from the bottom of bar street and work up, you will get less hassle from the PR’s on the way up. All will offer free shots, which are horrid, but do the job! If on a budget work out which bars charge less i.e. most charge 4 euros for a drink, some charge 5 (the ones the bar crawl go on!)Get free Club tickets in the middle of the street, where loads of PR’s stand. All clubs pretty similar, but mainly ended up in Q club.
Restaurants
Sizzlers is very nice. A little more expensive than most, but very good portion sizes. Try not to be tempted to get a starter! It is just outside city centre, so jump in a taxi for your first time there.
Hawaii BBQ. This is right at the top on bar street on the main road. Very nice food, good service and value for money.
TGI Ziggy + Charlie’s. At the very bottom of bar street. Not very good. It looks nice from outside, but food is overpriced and not very good quality. Stay away!
Can't remember names of other places, but for fast food after the club the one near Q-club is good and friendly.
Hope this guide is useful, and wear sunscreen!
