Me and my friend arrived at the apartments at roughly 5am after getting the night flight to Crete. We was greeted by a gentleman who spoke very little English and who I believe worked at the Reception/Bar area of the complex.
He guided us to our room, we got there and the double bed was messy, after booking 2 single beds. There were wet towels on the floor and drinks on the side. Obviously after getting there at 5am - this isn't what you need!
We went back to the reception and asked to be changed to a different room.
The next morning me and my friend took a walk into Hersonissos which is a 15 min walk maximum. The shops were really nice and there was a wide selection.
If you were wanting to walk to the beach I'd say it was about a half an hour walk and you have to pay for the sun loungers.
The pool and bar area is quite nice and nothing is over priced. However you're not allowed to have your own drinks around the pool area.
After staying there a few nights, me and my friend went down to the bar and had a couple of drinks.
We then went back to our room. A few moments later, the guy knocked on our door and offered me and my friend the air conditioning for free. We took this simply as a nice gesture. However this was not the case - he asked my and my friend to go back to his apartment. We said no and as of that moment I wanted to be no where else but home.
Overall, the location was nice and the restaurants were decent but not too expensive. However, I wouldn't go back again.

These apartments are very well located halfway between the older village (up the hill) of restaurants and shops and the newer beach section and main shopping street. Accommodation is basic but then it's only 2*.
The swimming pool is wonderful as it is a decent length unlike most in these type of resorts.
In the 1-bedroom apartment, don't expect to be able to do much cooking : facilities are poor. There are two hobs, very little equipment and no oven. This information is not given to you beforehand so, if you're really expecting to cater for yourself, be prepared !
The manageress, Athena is like a chocolate kettle. She's slow and, as the French say, as friendly as a prison door. When we arrived after midnight, reception was locked and she had to be summoned. When she arrived, she had to copy everyone's name, passport number and the dates of their visit (despite us all staying for the same amount of time and between the same dates). This takes a lot of time because she's not quick. And there were families with younger children waiting.
Because Thomson put the fear of theft and insecurity into everyone with a flier, you may hire a safe deposit box: no deposit, just a flat fee of over €10. A bit steep.
Air-conditioning in the rooms is great but be careful: we had a bucket outside to collect the condensation which the maid did not empty. So, when it filled up, the excess compensation dripped onto the floor of the bedroom. You may need to empty it yourself as we did to prevent further damage.
Our departure pick-up was at 9.20 at night. Check-out time was 12 midday. Athena charged €25 to anyone who wanted to keep their rooms till 6pm. That's €100 per 24 hours, more expensive than most hotels! We bucked the trend and did not bother: we checked out at 12, left all our stuff in the luggage room and went back intermittently to change, collect food etc..
We had an excellent stay in a part of the world which we did not know: Koutouloufari caters mainly for the Dutch and then the Brits but is a handy location, not overcrowded and not prone to unseemly drunkenness and lewd behaviour.

stayed for 2 weeks with husband and 12 year old daughter. found the apartment basic but all we needed. location is fab - just a short walk to koutouloufari village with its many restaurants. i would recommend Iokasti restaurant as you first enter the village - the atmosphere is relaxed and charming and the food delicious. if you like a quiet, family beach (but still with facilties quietly tucked away) as we do, you need to turn right from the select hypermarket until you reach a small museum. not a long walk but remember its back up the hill - hot and tiring after a day in the exciting waves! we had no problems with staff at the resort but do be aware that the apartments are advertised as 18 - 30 in germany and holland. they can get quite loud between 7 and 12 until they go clubbing but as many families are out dining at this time it shouldnt spoil your hols!

Myself and 5 friends (all 18, girls) went to the Silvia Apartments in the first week of September. After reading some reviews on here we were a bit sceptical about what to expect but it really was fantastic.
On arriving at the resort we were met by the barman/manager who checked us in and gave us our keys. It had taken about 15 minutes by taxi from Heraklion airport to reach the apartments. Our apartments were great, bedroom with double bed and living room/dining room/kitchen in one with 2 other full size single beds in it. It was clean and modern, and cool enough it provide relief form the incredible heat!
The balcony was really big, with a table and chairs. The pool was gorgeous, fresh water so it didn’t sting your eyes. There was always plenty of sunbeds, although our rep said the resort had been really busy earlier in the season. We were a short walk down the hill into Hersonossis, which was an easy enough walk although the hill did deem tog et steeper the more often we walked up it! Star beach was great, sea was lovely.
There were lots of really good restaurants in Hersonossis, we found a great one on the front with views over the ocean. The nightlife was good, although we went into Malia quite a few times which was fantastic for us...a 5 minute 15 euro cab ride.
Overall couldn’t rate the resort any higher, we had a fantastic time and wouldn’t think twice about returning. It was everything we could have asked for and more. Would strongly recommend it to anyone who was interested.

The apartments have a 4* rating but they are no more than a 3*. The owner is rude and took and instant dislike to us because we were English.
The bathrooms are so cramped that you have to put you feet in the shower to sit on the toilet! However the bedroom and living area are a good size. The rooms were cleaned infrequently and the sheets/towels were changed only once in a week.
The apartments are located right on the edge of the resort with no transport provided to the town/beach. The best feature of these apartments is the pool but you are not allowed your own drinking water there.

We have just got back from Crete (11 Aug 2010). We stayed for two weeks at these apartments. The apartment was the best size we have had in Greece. We had one bedroom with plenty of cupboard space. The bedroom has patio doors onto the patio or balcony if you are on the first floor. We had a bath with a shower over and a sink with a storage unit underneath. The kitchen is basic as are all greek self catering apartments. The maids came daily to change the bins and every three days to change the towels and sheets. The apartment was very quiet. We paid 5Euros a night for air con which is average for Greece. It is far enough out of Hersonissoss which is a very lively town. But it is very close to Koutouloufari which is a lovely little village above the apartments. There are lovely greek tavernas there that are reasonably priced. My only criticism of the apartments was the pool. The pool was a great size but the area around it is not very big and there were not enough loungers for all staying at the apartments. We found that people would go early to the pool and put towels on the beds so if you didn't go down until 10.30 am all the beds would be taken although there would be few people actually by the pool. The pool bar was ok but didn't do Greek food only Dutch or English. Food & drink were reasonably priced.
