We have had two great family holidays there this year. The food is particularly outstanding as are the mini disco's for the children. The pools are gorgeous and the weather was great. In Easter it was a quiet, friendly hotel and in summer a very busy, popular place to be. Really great...looking forward to returning very soon.

great views
we stayed at riosol for aweek 10 april we were not sure what to expect after reading reviews we had two sons age 17 and 9 along with a friend we had two apartments we emailed hotel to ask for large sunny balconie and when we arrived we got what we askedfor we were really pleased apartments were alittle old looking but spotless their was every thing you need they had their lauderette one level above us which was great 3 euros for a wash and dry and the dry lasted 50 minutes. food was different menu for each country their was something you could find the breakfast was english cooked and evening food was great next to reception wasthe haddocks pub that did full english from 10.30am 12.00pm which was great but found the restaurant food was just as good. pool was lovely a bit chilly in morning but as day went it became very hot and just nice. europa centre was 5 minutes walk away and had lots of latest football matches on for the football fans you can still relax even watching match. entertainment was great something forchildren and adults after 9. had lunch overlooking the lovely views would recomend this hotel for easter or around anytime but the summer (too hot) ask for large balconie as some were reallysmall (large ones have big sun beds) small only have small table and chairssupermarket next to pool open from 8am untill 8pm. taxi ride 3 euro from top to bottom went on camel ride and safari jeep travelled to maspalomas water park great but try one closer by .overall would stay next time BOOKED WITH DIRECT HOLIDAY but would wait as rooms are to be refurbished may 2006 and could include aircon only fan at moment which is great for not so hot months.
First time
As a family this was our first time to try self catering. The riosol upon arrival was very welcoming and staff were very friendly. We were taken to our apartment by Roberto who was happy to take you right to your door. The apartment was very spacious and very clean the facilities were basic but the kitchen dining area had what you would need. For example, kettle, toaster, microwave two ring electric cooker, pots and pans plenty of cutlery and crockery. There is also a television in your room which you feed euros and it will talk to you for as slong as you feed it. The two pool areas were perfectly clean and well kept but as you would imagine for this time of year a little cold. Fantastic place plenty going on around you in and out of the hotel would go again at this time of year. Davies Family South Wales.
Do not stay here!
This hotel looks nothing like the pictures in the brochures. It is cramped and bleak and we were right under a walkway and so at night you can hear people walking overhead. The balcony has no privacy! The room smelt musty. Just don't even go!! not at all pleasant or relaxing.
great views shame about the rooms
stayed here room 3201 over the new year period for two weeks. myself, hubby and two children. breathtaking views from the spacious balcony. rooms a bit of a letdown especially the sofa beds in the lounge area not suitable for adults or children as they do not fold out, shabby and none too clean, could do with a refurb. and the maids more time to clean. our bedroom was infested with ants and we seen a few rotches. but the views more than made up for it. had nice neighbours ieghter side of the apartment. pool areas good, food just ok and entertainment especially paco the clown my 5 year old loved. came back home with thinner legs as the resorts famous step system did us a power of good.
Good View Thats All
I arrived at this hotel 9.30pm Christmas Eve after a long trip and had emailed ahead to order dinner as the restaurant would be closed and a room with a good view and not many steps to encounter. I received a return mail ensuring all these things and I did get the view and nothing else. Reception knew nothing of the dinner ( even though on their list I saw something circled in highlighter pen but I didn't argue the point ) and there was 100 steps up and down to the apartment ( we wouldn't take the lift ). Entertainment in the hotel was OK for children and they had one Christmas CD that they seemed to play continuosly. The room/apartment were dated and a little dirty with entry only through the front patio door with bars on the windows it felt like a prison. Having read reviews here I was expecting alot more. The staff were always obliging and nice, the food was OK and you would be just about be able to tolerate it for a week. We were on a walk way also and people passing would instinctively look in. It was near the Europa Centre which is one good point but overall I was very unimpressed by the Riosol.
stay away!
On arrival felt very daunted by the awful crumbling, concrete walkways and stairs, I felt empathy with prisoners from Colditz! Spacious enough for two and very dirty. The bathroom fittings were rusty antiques, tiles were falling off the walls, grouting was black, toilet seat and floor tiles were cracked. Kitchen area was well equipped with old implements that felt very greasy to the touch, not that I wanted to touch anything. I washed the few plates and cutlery that I needed for cold food and left it in the fridge so that the cockroaches didn't walk over it in the night. The bedding looked and smelt dirty, yellowing, thinning sheets and stained covers. The curtains looked like they could have walked to the launderette by themselves, they should have done. There was torrential rain for the whole of one day and the whole place leaked, there were countless complaints to reception, who very nicely said that maintenance were checking all rooms. Our room was checked when we went out and left unlocked by a thoughtful person who had moved the sofa away from the wall, so it wouldn't soak up any more water, and put our towels on the floor without replacing them. I use the term towel very loosely as all the smelly bits of material did was spread the water around my body, my hairdryer was never more needed on my poor back and legs. The cleaner was very nice but very ineffectual, every room was cleaned by their team in about 5-10 mins. I never saw any cleaning products and certainly never had the lovely aroma to prove they had been used. The filthy plastic bucket was placed on the kitchen counter every day, she thoughtfully removed the plastic bag I put there to prevent further soiling before dumping the germ carrier in the same place, obviously a creature of habit. The dirt was relocated around the room on a daily basis, thoughtfully, before mopping, most of it was swept into the gap between the floor and sliding doors, to join other guests' detriment, a lovely feeding area for the friendly cockroaches who didn't want us to be alone. I found this very heartwarming as I had killed three of their number. We were very lucky to have a stunning view of the sea which was only slightly marred by the noise of the lift and people peering out at us as they passed. I can't understand how this place could have a 3 star rating.
Riosol no. 1
The entertainment staff were very good especially Paco, i met some new friends especially Sonna from the Netherlands and Josh from England !!! also the mixture of nationalities added to the holiday !!! The selection of food on the menus everynight was excellent
unimpressed with the riosol
we arrived at the riosol for two weeks in sept 2005 we were in room 3118 the furthest away from the hotel and at the bottom, on arrival there were cockroaches in every room which put a dampener on my holiday straight away. the swimming pools were great but dirty there were plasters, tissue and even cockroaches at the bottom of the big pool i dont think in the whole two weeks there that the pool had been cleaned except i did see the rim of the pool cleaned on a couple of occasions it was discusting and i seen quite afew people slip around the pool area. the entertainment could have been better as most of the guests went elsewhere because not much was going on, surely the riosol should do something better to keep there guests well entertained so that they keep there custom throughout the evening! we cant say that we had a bad holiday as the views were fantastic, the hotel just needs some modernization and decoration as its abit dated we will visit puerto rico again as its a beautiful place but i doubt very much if it will be back at the riosol. oh also they could get some better towels as the yellow ones dont dry you properly and they smell....
Brilliant Views
From the start the holiday was great. The whole place was fantasic, the people were friendly and the views where breath taking. When arriving at the hotel the man who takes the cases to your room was very helpful told us about the resort. The view from the massive balcony was amazing as we sat there one eveing playing cards we watched the sun set. My mum and dad visited the place about a year later and said the exact same thing. Bit of a walk to the town but if you dont fancy that then the bus stop is right next door and the taxi are really cheap. Would defo book again!
where are the staff?
Everyone that we spoke to including ourselves was dissapointed on arrival. When we arrived at around 8 o'clock in the morning after traveling through the night, the room we were given had three cockroaches in it. Two behind the curtains to the patio and one on the bed covers! After complaining at reception our room was changed. You have to use the sister hotel's reception (Riosol), next door, because this hotels reception was only seen open by ourselves on one occasion during our 2 week stay. There are also no telephones in the rooms that we went into so you have to go up 8 flights of stairs (or use the lifts if you dare) to get to next doors reception. Sleeps 4 means two single beds in the bedroom (maybe for your children if you're going as a family) and a sofa bed (with pull out matress underneath, so on different levels) for yourself and your partner in the living area. The t.v is coin operated. All rooms are long overdue decorating, especially the bathroom. Also beware of exposed wires, ie, plug sockets hanging off, with your children. We complained about this too (at Riosol reception) and the problem was fixed the next day. As a base the rooms are bareable. Its a long way to the beach if you are walking loads and loads of steps-forget it if your even slightly unfit. The man made beach (Amadores) is lovely, much better than the one you can see from your room. Again its a struggle if you're walking (steep hill most of the way). If you are considering staying here i suggest you use Riosol next door. Staff there are nice and friendly. Their pool is also better and the food is quite nice too!
