Walked in after a long flight and first thought were **** **** looks like a Butlins camp.
They are also doing major repair works also Thomas cook says general maintments, rooms have no floors, no plaster and wires sticking out of walls, we call that major repairs and they are putting people in that block (if u want photos e mail me at duandyum@hotmail.com).
This is called a 4 star and is not much more than 2 star, its says beach bar, cocktail bar and looby bar, beach bar opens if ur lucky at 10 and closes at 4, coctail bar open 4 nights not 7 and closes at 10, food is awful unless u love greese, and food is just warm. No air con except ur bedrooms when its working the lobby bar was nicked named sweat box.
Swimming pool dirty and just about every child came down with ear infections. Also tummy bugs many people landed up in hospital one woman being there for 4 weeks.
Room door hardley fits.
Take advice and if ur booked in here insist on a change of hotel or take packs of tablets for tummy, books to read as the only cool place is ur bedroom, and a vidio camera for use in court when u get home.
Honest 2 star and much like a Butlins camp with staff who only want tips and the cloths from ur back.
Oh by way water sports were great.

Not a wonderful hotel, and not 4 star as booked, dirty, staff don’t really want to know, also the rep does her best to help.
Boys all had ear infections due to pool and I was informed by other guests they have had same problem we found it easier to forget pool and use beach.
Food was luke warm at its best, drinks run out often and no where cool to sit and drink.
Some staff if given a tip would work hard, no tip forget service.
I would not go back to Cuba and would not rate it 4 star.

Aug 2004, Miss L Smith

Hotel Sol Cayo Coco was amazing. It was more like a village, yet you didn’t feel crowded or imprisoned as you can sometimes feel in holiday resorts.
Sometimes in places like Cuba you get told stories about not being aloud out of your resort, but it’s not true. You have the freedom that you would at home. Yet you probably won’t decide to go anywhere. Everything that you could possibly want or need has been provided for you by the staff at Sol Cayo Coco.
The beach was absolutely amazing and the sea was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and always made you feel welcome.
There was a mixture of nationalities yet there appeared to be no language barrier between any of the staff and the holiday makers from all over the world.
The trips that they organise are amazing too. You can see the sights of Cuba, go snorkelling off the second largest coral reef in the world, not to mention swimming with dolphins and much more.! The staff also provide activities for you to do at the hotel at different times during the day. There is always a variety. One day it may be aerobics, another it could be riffle shooting, and the nightly changing evening shows. The choices are endless. But you don’t have to join in if you don’t want to, and you certainly don’t ever feel that you are being pressurised into doing anything. Its just there if you want it.
The fact that there was not an over Americanised aspect to the place meant that it was quite a poor country, however they did not let you see this in the way they treated you. They created everything out of nothing for their visitors and they created an enormously welcoming atmosphere. I’m going back again next year I thought it was that good! Definitely worth a visit.!

I stayed at this hotel between the 7th and 21st July 2004. I must praise the Thomas Cook reps at this hotel they do try and Felix is the best.
Rooms
Too basic for my liking, bathroom wasn’t as clean as it could be, and the rooms were always damp. If you play with the TV a bit you can get some decent American channels but you have to know what you are doing. Lack of radio in room, and the phone wouldn’t work, the reception staff didn’t want to know about it, they kept saying dial 8844, even though it was clearly broken completely.
Staff
Look out for a guy named Lois in the La Arcada buffet restaurant, he is brilliant, always bringing drinks and clearly plates. The pool bar is a must see with the excellent staff again. The lobby bar is rubbish, too warm and the drinks have gone off, the staff don’t want to know.
Complex
The complex was maintained well, there was never any rubbish left around, but I did notice a few glasses on stairs that could easily have been tripped over by children.
Beach
Beware, beds in the shade were being reserved as early as 4AM, you had no chance by 07:30 of getting any beds at all.
Pool
Beds could be found at 09:00 Am mainly due to the fact it is too warm around the pool. Generally it is nice in the pool, but it can get a little busy.
Entertainment
I watched one show and that was the worst I have ever seen, as for anything else I think the best entertainment was watching the bar staff throwing bottles up and down.
Check In/Out
Check in was a farce, the rooms were not ready until 8PM, and when arriving from a 9 hour flight, then been told you have to wait another 3 hours for your room is not the best thing.
Check Out for a farce, you cannot book a late checkout until the day of your departure and ever then its not guaranteed, anyway I got it, costing $30 until 15:00.
In General
As I say I wouldn’t go to the particular hotel again, but I would try the others, the Melia Cayo Coco looks very appealing, with bungalows on the local lake.
I would recommended this hotel to be downgraded to a 3* for the features it offers.
I would also like to add I came back with Food Poisoning

Jun 2004, superrr

This hotel was lively, family orientated, entertainment very good. Shame about some of the tourist who looked for complaints to make with their 'microscopes'.
It is a cheap holiday compared to the other destinations in the Caribbean. The food was varied and excellent. We love tasting the local dishes, so no chips & burgers(kid’s food) on this holiday. We had fried lobster dishes, roast pork, rice, beans & tons of exotic fruits.
Cuba is a very poor country(with US embargos) so we did expect to see that side of it. People are friendly and as long as you show respect & are generous with tips ($1=60p approx) they will respect you & go out of their way to help you.
The beaches are unspoilt, unpolluted and beautiful with plenty of shade, you just had to walk a little bit extra if beds had been taken or the garden area was nice to sit with a view of the sea. This is a beach, water sport type of holiday - not the place to go shopping and dinning out. We came back glowing & refreshed.

Apr 2004, Miss Kayleigh Deacon

On the 1st of April this year my family and I travelled to Sol Cayo Coco, Cuba where we spent 2 lovely weeks. I met so many people including other guests and staff. If you ever meet Alex and Louis the main reps that host the shows you'll know what I mean. Even the waiters and bar staff were friendly and made our stay fun and enjoyable.
The favourite part of the holiday was sunbathing and heading down to the hotels disco after the show. The shows were great and my family got dragged up alot to sing or down pints or strip in front of everyone.
Even at the end of the night when the disco had finished we collected endless rows of shots from the bar where we carried on playing drinking games with guests and the staff even when they had to be up at 7, they tried to make our stay alot more exciting. I hated leaving, going back to college and work. Every day was so fun and relaxing, we used to travel 10 minutes along the beach to Melia hotel where we could still receive free drinks and food.
The trip to the coral reef was swim able, but they didn’t charge alot for the glass bottom boat. It was funny throwing bread in the water and watching the fish surround my cousins and brother. I definitely recommend the hotel but not that much for young children, its more a teenager’s hotel with their family and friends. If any one does see the reps say hi!!
