I was a bit apprehensive going after reading some of the reviews, but this hotel is fab, we really enjoyed all aspects it looked just like the photo in the brochure. The staff were really helpfull and kind, food was top rate, and the room was to die for, we were told they were closing for six months next year for a refurb, but we could not really see any part of the complex that could be deemed as unpleasant. You really dont need to take anything with you as all towels for beach and room are supplied and changed daily if you wish, I would also recommend the trip to havana it is a must to see the tropicana show. Not much to spend your money on no shops, so if you take children i would suggest to take lilo's and water games as there is no place you can buy these things.

Well where would you like me to start about this hotel !!!!!!!. This is know where near a 4 star hotel as thomas cook advertised, it more a british 2 star.
BAD POINTS : 2 hrs to check in. Rooms stinking of damp, went to reception to complain but they didn't want to know. FOOD WASN'T THE BEST !!!!. SWIMMING POOL HARDLY CLEANED. EAR INFECTIONS (whole family). WORKERS ASKING FOR CLOTHES, MONEY ETC, I COULD GO ON !!!!!!!!!.
GOOD POINTS : Beaches were awsome and i really mean that. entertainment fantastic. THAT WAS ABOUT IT REALLY !!!!!!!!.
IF I WERE TO GO BACK I WOULD GO NEXT DOOR TO THE MELIA HOTEL NEXT DOOR BECAUSE THAT IS A PROPER 4 STAR.
I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THE HOTEL TO ANYONE BUT I WOULD DEFO RECOMEND CUBA.

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at sol cayo coco. We went there with 4 friends (3 Couples). We found our room not to be the cleanest, our balcony did not have a clean through out our holiday, although our friends said theirs was ok. We did have a few problems while there with some of the staff especially the bar staff at night, not wanting to make cocktails or coffee. We found if you tip well you get good service if you dont the service is not so good and every body wants tips so be carefull this is were most of our money went. We also found that the pool was not very clean and most people that had been in it was suffering with ear infections, we did not see it cleaned at any time (so be carefull with children the dr is expensive if you need antibiotics). The food was fine a good range but be aware if you want to book the a la carte. we tried to book but it is only open every other day and you have to book the day before you want to go between 3-5pm, they do 2 sittings 6pm and 9pm they dont like booking to many people for the 9pm we kept getting told it was fully booked until we complained to customer service who sorted this out, when we went it was only half full. We booked the Jeep on Tour only to end up with the machanic who did not speak any English which was a bit disapointing although this is a good trip to do, we did inform our reps Maria and Mable who I must say were !st class. they sorted a small refund for us. the shows and entertainers were exellent and very friendly. On the whole the hoilday was ok, but we would not go back to this part of Cuba or this hotel.

Before I went on holiday I had checked the previous reviews shown about this hotel. I must say I was pleasantly surprised at what I and my partner found when we arrived there in May of this year. The staff are very friendly, speak english well and were very curteous. Our maid Mabel turned our beach towels into swans as a wee surpise. The accomodation did look slightly like Butlins circa 1979 but the rooms were clean and bright. Bathroom was fine although a shower was preferable to a bath as it took ages for the bath to fill up!. The buffet was good. Omlettes made to order. Steaks, kebabs and chicken were cooked by a chef. There were a la carte restaurants too. Drinks, alcoholic and non alcoholic were not well known brands but drinkable. All in all a nice place to go on holiday but I understand it is closing down for refurbishment next year and maybe thats a good thing. A lick of paint is needed. The entertainment though is well worth going for. The show at 2130 is a must! One thing to watch for is shopping in the hotel. The shops in the foyer were fine and prices shown for goods, however the stall holders of the stalls in the ground gave widely varying prices for the goods on sale!
If you are going to this hotel please enjoy yourselves as we did.

we had a holiday in cuba last year stayed in guardalavaca, we decided to try a different area and resort, what a good choice, the sol hotel is truly a nice place to stay, the staff are very helpfull and friendly, the rooms very clean, the grounds of the hotel are very pretty, look for the humming birds they are amazing, the hotel is on the beach, if you go for a stroll round go to the beach on the left side over the little wooden bridge the beach is just like a brochour picture, the food in the buffet resturant is very good,if you are a vegaterian then you will have no worries as there was a good selection of food at every meal time that would make you very happy, i know this because i have a daughter who is a vegatarian and know how hard it can be to find suitable meals, the pools are very clean and looked after, the entertainment good, something for everyone, the gym looks very high tec, didnt use this couldnt stay off the beach long enough, the trips you can take seem good ,we didnt go on any as we were only there for the week but we did some last year ,havana, dolphins ect ect good value for money, the hotel is 4 star, but please remember this is cuba not spain so not quite the sameprobly 3star but 5star treatment, holidays are what you want them to be,and if you want sun sand sea and nice people then i would recomend the sol cayo coco,oh and by the way the temp was average 36 /38 deg every day and the sea is very warm and safe.

returning for our third holiday this year. people the most friendly i have met in all my travels. setting idyllic. Walking along the beautifull white sandy beaches or sitting by the pool the atmosphere has an air of tranquillity. so much to do throughout the day for all ages or just left alone to relax the choice is yours. not to be missed.

Just come back from Sol Cayo Coco with my 3 children and what a brilliant time we all had. Cant fault the rooms, the food or the staff. Had one small problem when i arrived which involved the stairs to my room but when i explained my back situation they had sorted the problem within 5 minutes, you cant ask for better than that. Loads to do for the kids. mine aged 7, 14, and 16 and their was something for all ages. Beaches are superb and well kept. A la cart restaurant also included with all inclusive, but it just has to be booked on the day that you want to eat there, which is not a problem. Entertainment for kids and adults in the evening also a night club for the over eighteens. Huge selection of food so something for everyone, even vegetarians. There's only one thing that i could fault this country on and it's on the flow of water but then we are spoilt here in the uk. I could live with it, just give yourself 10 minutes to run a bath which i dont think is the end of the world. This is a great resort so i would say it's a must to visit. I read alot of write ups on this place and most good but the odd one bad, well me personally i cant see where the bad comes from, it's as if they are talking about a different resort.

My husband, myself and our 13 year old daughter stayed for 1 week. The weather was fantastic and the hotel wonderful.I read the reviews before we came and was a little worried with a few of the comments, but everything was great.
The flight going was very tight and seemed to take forever to get there as we had a 3 hour delay, due to Manchester airport being closed due to snow.
The food at the hotel was excellent lots of choice. The entertainment put on by the staff was fantastic, something for everyone every night.
The beach was just fantastic turquoise sea and white sandy beaches, just like something you dream about, never busy.
The people are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
This was our first visit to Cuba and usually only go away for a week at a time as we get bored very easily, but we wished we had booked for longer.
We hope to return again in the future!!!

We knew not to expect a 4* hotel - but we did expect a little more from our 2nt stay. Comparing it to a 3* AI hotel in Varadero we stayed in earlier in the week, this place was rather disappointing.
Rooms - great size, very effective AC (faulty toilet was fixed in good time)
The buffet food was average, as expected - usual pasta, salad, etc.
Entertainment poor - not what you want to find when we had a full day of rain, but did witness a mimed disney show the following day, with a rather scary looking mickey mouse :-)
Service was below average and as commented by another reviewer there seemed to be a requirement to tip, this was extremely off putting.
The majority staff appeared rather unhappy/moody compared to the very cheerful/helpful cubans we had met during our 2 week trip around Cuba. So this reaction was quite a contract for us when we arrived at Sol Cayo Coco Hotel.
Onsite Night Club - below average, DJ would run up to the booth to change the compilation CD, dance floor empty.
The beaches are beautiful there, so if you're just looking for a basic/lazy beach holiday then okay, however, if you're looking for true Cuba, this isn't it.

I’ve got to say how awful the hotel was, firstly the food was not too a high standard and the amount of people including myself with stomach upsets during the stay was alarming, secondly our rooms were not kept to a high standard, beds were made but sheets were not changed as their was sand building up at the bottom of the bed.
