Lovely pension, the strange lady owner ran the entire chalet by herself, superwoman.
The rooms were fairly basic, but kept extremely clean, spotless even, and had everything you need, comfy beds and the rooms with balconies have amazing views.
It stank of cigarettes in the communal areas when we were there, which was very off putting and we never worked out if it was residents or if the owner was a chain smoker.
We did however, request specifically a non smoking room from Neilson and clearly did not receive this, as it stunk of cigarettes on arrival, so much so it made me feel sick and I don't mind the smell of smoke, unless its this strong and stale!
The room had an ashtray on the table and we had to air the room for several hours which was an initial downfall of the chalet
However, saying all that we had a great time and we were really comfy.
The breakfast was OK, could probably have been a little more generous, was not nearly enough for myself and friends, especially with a big days snowboarding, and the owner tends to push you out after you've had your measly rations so she can fit the next lot in, but I loved it anyway!
A tv in the breakfast room showed web cam views of the slopes in Mayrhofen (Penken, Ahorn) so you could see what you would be playing on first thing in the morning before you got up there, a good check of conditions and some crazy Austrian music to listen to whilst you are eating your brekkie!
Just make sure you wipe your feet on the way in or the lady will go mental at you if you don't take your dirty shoes off!
It was a perfect setting which was one of the best things about Vier Jahr, only 100 m from gondola, but tucked away at the back so it was not on the main street so very peaceful. Lots of like minded English folk stayed here and it was perfect for couples like myself.
Mayrhofen is a super resort and vier jahr, despite its flaws comes highly recommended from me, so much so we are going to stay there again this season! maybe see you there.
And make sure you have a chat to the owner, shes a bit shy I reckon, so comes across a bit of an odd one, but she really appreciates it when her guests try to make conversation, she truly is superwoman!
