I have just stayed in a beautiful private apartment on the 6th floor of the complex. It had fantastic seaviews and was well equipped and everything was brand new. Will definitely be rebooking for next year.

I have just returned from a holiday at the Borinquen. I booked a private apartment and it was fantastic. It had everything you need including free wifi in the room, a safe, washing machine, double bed, full cooking facilities, tv and dvd and fantastic seaviews. It was decorated to a very high standard.
The complex is ideally situated being very close to all amenities and the beach. The whole area has been upgraded with new walkways and gardens.

On arrival was allocated room 123 which is on the ground floor facing another hotel. Went back to reception and informed them we had booked a pool view and was told that the holiday company didn't have pool views. We then asked if we could have another room higher and was told there were no other rooms available. We decided to just make the most of it especially as we didn't plan on spending much time in our room anyway. After a difficult nights sleep due to the busy main road and Bus station next door, we had the pleasure of being woken up at 6.30am by the cleaners in their room next door chatting and laughing and making drinks. We informed the hotel reception and was told he would speak to the staff. On the 2ND morning we had the same thing again so again complained to reception, this time they managed to find us another room 118 again on the ground floor but this time our view was of palm trees right in front of the balcony. The noise from the road was less noticeable and we couldn't hear the cleaners which was a bonus but unfortunately this time we had noisy Spanish neighbours staying in the privately owned apartment above and next door. Again we spoke to reception only to be told there were no other rooms available even tho the hotel seemed empty. We found out that most of the rooms are either privately owned or used by a German tour operator.
There is a lot of improvement work going on in the area and because of this the only access is via alternative routes due to the main access being closed. This also prevented Taxi's from dropping you off as they would not go this way due to pot holes in the road.
We found the rooms to be basic but very clean and the cleaners came 7 out of the 10 days, the pool area was clean and hardly used, this may be due to the fact that there is no pool bar or food facilities on site as described, or because of the noise and the dust from the building works.

my partner and i stayed at the borenquen for 3 weeks in august and had a really great time,we didnt want to go home.the hotel is situated in a strategically perfect location.a short stroll to the beach, bus station and taxi rank at the rear of hotel which you get to through a private gate(key can be hired from frindly reception staff).you can always get a lounger around the pool, veronicas is a 20 minute walk, the chinese near the hotel doesnt look up to much but the food is out of this world and cheap, trust me on this, other resteraunts and spar/shops and cash machine and casino close by.great view of the sea from hotel balcony,no screaming kids, just a great time had by all.my mate eddie lives there with wife maureen,he can be seen most afternoons around the pool sitting on a wall in the shade of a palm tree drinking a lager, hes a mine of information and such a friendly bloke,if you see him, tell him danny says hi and were going back xmas.the borinquen, right in the middle of everything.

The apartments were really good! The maids came in every day, which usually doesn't happen in other places, and changed the towels, beds and toilet roll. They are situated in a very good place because you are close enough to everything but its not too noisy. There is a big Spar right behind them too which is much better than any other shops. The apartments also have a cafe/bar in them.
The Brum Pub is great! When we found that, we went there all the time for dinner. Its all home made cooking with lots to choose from and the staff are very friendly. If you go down to the bottom of the hill and instead of turning left to go to Veronicas etc, go right you will find it. Its only 5 minutes away from the apartments.
Go to Loro Parque. It was brilliant! But it was about an hour on the bus, so maybe not if you don't like travelling. Aqualand was quite a let down.
I would definitely recommend these apartments to people who were just really wanting a nice place to stay but wern't looking for any night-time entertainment.

Aug 2008, Miss L Gallagher

i was worried about going to these apartments after everything i read, but they were fine! myself and my boyfriend went for a week and had a great holiday. The apartments were in a nice area, next to the beach and plenty shops etc nearby. They were a bit far from the main Safari shopping centre but the taxis are so cheap it didnt matter. There isnt anything for children and there are some broken tiles in the pool which lets it down a bit, but the rooms are clean and fine for what we wanted. The poolside bar had good cheese toasties and drinks were reasonable, loads of sunbeds and it was quiet as well. I would have liked to have a tv to watch while getting ready etc but other than that it was a good holiday and i wouldnt hesitate to go back.

Jul 2008,

me and my boyfriend stayed in these apartments wen we went to tenerife we got put in the ground floor apartment we stayed in them for 3 nites then had to get moved as our room got infested with cockroaches our room was crawling with them and not one member of staff or our rep helped us it was the cleaners from the new apartments we got moved to that came to help us. i wouldn't recommend these apartments to anyone as they are disgusting and i wouldn't recommend anyone to book up with seguro as they are a total joke and there reps are cheeky ****es. so if anyone is planning to stay in these apartments DON'T. i would recommend the caribe apartments as they are lovely and clean. if we didn't get moved our holiday would have been a total nitemare.

Jul 2008, Miss K Smith

Basic apartments but were cleaned on a regular basis. Not suitable for families as there isn't anything for children to do during the day ie. no kids club, also few cracked tiles in the bottom of the pool. About 10mins walk to veronicas and about 5mins walk to the beach. Good chinese about 2mins away from the apartments and also good indian about 10mins up the hill. La vida rica cafe opened every day apart from a tuesday. 2 computers with internet access - 1euro for 10mins. Would recommend these apartments for couples.

My fiance and I have just returned...
3 / 10
May 2008, Ms A Donaldson

My fiance and I have just returned from 2 weeks in Tenerife, staying at the Borinquen apartments with a self catering package. Both of us agree that the whole experience was extremely disappointing. The apartments itself was very basic and not at all what was advertised through our travel agency. The phone did not work, basic hob cooker with no oven, grill etc, there was no mini bar or satellite tv as indicated in our documentation. No air conditioning or fan which ideally you must have in soaring temperatures. Single beds which were in a poor state with springs painfully pushing through a thin layer of material covering them which were sat on top of bases which were not the same size, was a bad shock. We did ask our travel agent if there were double beds as I was not happy at the prospect of sleeping in a single bed, which I have not done since I was 15!! We were assured that there would be suitable sleeping facilities, i:e double beds, for couples, which turned out to be untrue as there are NO double beds at this apartment complex. On our first day we had to have a new shower fitted and our toilet leaked which also had to be fixed. With the staff not speaking any English and not overly friendly either, we felt as if WE were the ones being troublesome as if we had done something wrong. The pool was in bad state of disrepair and much deeper than the expected average swimming pool and with no access for disabled people these apartments are not children or disabled friendly in any way! Also, to be charged a 20 Euro deposit ( charged 2 euros non refundable for each day kept ) for a key which opens a gate across from the apartment to allow you exit to the bus station opposite the apartments was absolutely scandalous. We refused to pay anymore charges as one does not expect to be charged by the complex itself and should have been part of the amenities supplied. So we had to walk a very long way around to get to the bus station to take a trip into Los Cristianos. The cleaning staff were the friendliest people we met on the holiday who did a fantastic job cleaning our apartment and was always greeting you with a friendly smiling "Hola!" Those are the real gems to leave a tip for!! Eating out in Las Americas was very very disappointing and in the whole 2 weeks there, we only found three suitable places to eat out of the hundreds of restaurants along the Americas! Highly recommend the Brum Pub, which serves a fantastic meal, especially a 3 course set meal on a Sunday with traditional starters, full Sunday roast and a nice dessert. Also the Peking Duck, just two short minutes walk from the apartment serves fantastic food with nice friendly service. And a fantastic burgr can be found at one of the open restaurants right on the beach! However, as for the rest that we tried, poor poor quality at rip off prices!! Also be careful of being suckered into a set meal for only 7.95 with free drink. They ask you things like bread with that sir/madam which you think comes with the meal but is charged for at an extortionate price as well as the chips brought to our table which we thought were the accompanient to the meal! A meal which should have cost us 16 Euros ended up costing us 29 Euros!! General attitude of the local restaurant trade was "get em in fast and hit em big!" The "lively and fast paced entertainment" advertised was completely non existent, with no local traditional cabaret shows, although there are a few places who put on imitation acts. The only entertainment we got was at ten o clock every morning being awoken with a noise polluting microphone from the neighbouring Ponderosa Hotel when entertaining the kids. 9 days into our holiday we did find a small bingo club which we explored with an open mind as it is situated 2 levels below ground and right next to a sex shop, which we think is closed down anyway, however I think its location would certainly put off tourists and with no access for disabled people or elderly people, being all stairs to the actual lift, it is not that way friendly either. ( By the way, the bingo staff only speak native tongue with only one person there speaking limited English and numbers are called out in Spanish). The beach itself was ok, but with it being black sand this put us off slightly as once your body gets wet, the actual grit in the sand can become quite painful when your skin starts turning red, not to mention it getting everywhere lol. The man made white sand beach which we were told was only a short walk away turned out to be a lengthy walk away, which is the last thing you want to do when going to the beach on a roasting hot day!! We did enjoy seeing lots of fish, and really huge ones at that, swim around our feet right at the shore though. The flight itself was bareable, but only just as we were packed in like sardines in a tin and for 4 and a half hours can become pretty uncomfortable. So all in all, not at all what we expected and for £300 each self catering expected a lot more!! Both of us have agreed we will never be back to Tenerife, even if there are other nicer places on the Island.

The apartments were basic but ideal...
7 / 10
Aug 2007, Ms K  McDonald

The apartments were basic but ideal and well worth the money. The pool is unsuitable for children as it is 1 metre deep at its shallowest and runs in a gradual slope to the deepest area. These apartments are more suitable for adults travelling without kids as there are no facilities for kids, no play areas or activities. We had a meal in the restaurant at the apartments one night and were extremely disappointed with the meal. It took an hour to receive our food from the time of ordering and the steak was as tough as an old boot and the pizza base was done to a crisp. More suitable for pool side snacks.
These apartments are ideally situated as they are close to the beach and only a short walk to shops, restaurants and pubs. The touts and pr's were a pain but we just firmly said no and walked on, definately not as bad as we had expected.
The best pubs we found were the Wigan Pier where they have a must see drag act, he was funny but its adult humour, the Irish pubs were good and had a great atmosphere with loads of Irish sing alongs, Legends was good and the DJ was funnier than most of the acts. He did a good Freddie Mercury and definately a good night, ideal entertainment for children.
Would use these apartments again, location was excellent, staff were friendly and the taxis are cheap if you don't want to walk. You can go to Los Christiano's for about 5 to 7 euros, 4 euros to main centre.
We took our own fan as there is no air conditioning but they do hire out their own fans. All in all a good holiday with no complaints.
