FRIENDLY STAFF, GOOD LAOCATION from Parko
HOTEL - run by Crystal staff who are all English which is not a problem as they were all friendly and willing to assist & provide information about the local area. The rep Sarah is a former walking guide who is a good source of knowledge in planning your walks. Full board involves 1) Breakfast - freshly cooked options which alter daily, cereals, fruit juices, tea, coffee, freshly baked bread rolls, cheese, ham, preserves. 2) Packed lunch of a roll, chocolate bar & carton juice drink. 3) 3 course evening meal with 1/4 litres of red or white wine per person. The dinner and packed lunch are self selected the day before. Husky's Bar shows sky TV football games & The Simpsons! & is adequate. Childens playroom includes a pool table & table football. ROOMS - some overlook a busy road so expect some noise although the view of the Wilder Kaiser does compensate. Others look out into gardens which are quiter. Clean with new bathrooms, TV (BBC World Service & Eurosport). ELLMAU - 2 bars - La Cantine & Route 66. Great Austrian Restaurant/Bar behing the Sport Hotel opposite called Elmhause (something like that) which is a traditional Austrian building which serves good food but has live music on each evening starting @ 8.30pm. The Sport Hotel allows non residents to use the bar & lounge which is very nice if the weather is not favourable or you wish to enjoy evening drinks (Tom the barman speaks excellent English) & the prices are cheaper than Huskys! There is a local tourist information which sells lift/gondola passes and advises where local music/events occur daily. PRICES - Beers 2.80 Euros for half litre, Meals between 7-12 Euros. Overall a nice, smallish typical Austrian village. Hotel fine & adequate.
Pleasantly surprised!! from CSLrevisited
After receiving dreadful customer service from Hays Travel, we were plesantly surprised at the Alpenhof Hotel. Set right in the mountains, with superb views, we found the hotel to be extremely clean & comfortable. We found everyone in Ellmau very friendly, the staff at the hotel are all English and were very eager to please, although it would have been nice to have one or two Austrian staff, we really couldn't fault them. The food was superb, and the packed lunch a nice touch. We booked this holiday as a couple on a late getaway, but we are now considering returning to ski in the winter with our children as it seems a very child friendly resort.
Great value as a late break from duvelle
Paid £345 each for 11 nights at the end of June. Marvellous value. With cooked breakfast, choice of evening meals, together with free packed lunch and wine with evening meal. Rooms 14-18 on top floor have a marvellous view of Wilder Kaiser mountain range. Run by Crystal staff who are all very friendly and obliging. Hotel dining, sitting and bar areas are light and airy. Accommodation is clean, compact, with plenty of storage. New bathrooms have been installed this year. Only disadvantage of having a wonderful view, is traffic noise from the main road. It wouldn't put me off staying there again.
