Galtenberg Hotel

We have returned from a week at Hotel Galtenberg in Inneralpbach. We had booked 11 rooms for a group of 28 people. 9 of the rooms were booked nearly 1 year in advance.
We had requested rooms with bath, however only 2 rooms (out of 11) that we were allocated had one!
Most of the rooms are not as described as per the hotel brochure (diagram). It is very deceptive.
One of the reception members of staff, failed to confirm a triple room (instead of a double room). One of the adults ended up sleeping on a mattress on the bedroom floor for a whole week.
At first, they refused to admit that they had made a mistake. They were rude and unprofessional. After hours of stress, our friends finally managed to get a discount.
I had had an email from the hotel confirming that we would be entitled to 10 % discount. When it came to pay the bill, they refused to give us that discount and said that they would only give us 5 % as per the winter brochure. As I explained that the email was a "contract", they stubbornly stuck to their decision.
We were lucky to have a room with a bath. It was spacious but lacked storage and there was no radiator to dry towels, ski socks or ski gloves. It was very hot in the bedrooms at night and in the bar/restaurant.
Although the hotel is big and lacks charm in general, we had a lovely and cosy secluded area for our group.
The food was excellent although hardly "Austrian”; one night, we ate "crocodile" and "ostrich"! One of the waiters "Ahmid" was very funny and very helpful.
There is a disco on Thursday nights until midnight. The music was good but was very loud. If you are unlucky to have a bedroom on the first or second floor above the bar, you would need some "ear plugs"!
On one occasion during another weekday, I mentioned to the barman that the music was too loud. At first he shrugged but then he changed his attitude when I said that "I was a customer", that "I pay to stay at the hotel" and "I wish to sleep at night"!
Galtenberg is excellent for kids. Entertainment is provided (face painting etc.). The adults had plenty of free time while the kids enjoyed themselves in the pool or playroom.
The indoor/outdoor pool (small) and sauna are nice and clean but beware... swimwear is not allowed in the sauna!
The hotel is well located for "ski in, ski out" provided that there is enough snow! (Which was not the case when we were there).
In good snow conditions, you can reach the nearest lift in less than 5 mn walk or at the worse; the cable car is about 10 mn walk. The beginners slope is right opposite the hotel.
Overall, Galtenberg is conveniently located to the slopes and is family friendly but it lacks the Austrian Feel and lacks professionalism.
