Bruxelles Hotel Reviews

10 / 10
Aug 2006, S O'connor

My partner and I had never been skiing before and were slightly nervous at arriving in the bruxelles hotel, unsure at what we might find, due to the fact we were used to sunning it up in Mexico on an all inclusive basis, yet by the end of the week the pair of us would have... more

excellent
just back from staying at hotel bruxelles. lovely hotel, staff were a little rude at times.central to everything, food was lovely, breakfast was ok. croissant ( not always fresh!) and cereal. dinner was 3 course soup main course and dessert. tasty most days. skiing was great crack. went to ski school. instructors were v. nice. they really bring you on by the end of the week. went dog sledding and skidooing... dog sleding wasnt worth the money, skidoos could have went faster!! the apres ski seemed a bit quiet(prob time of year) but we were all to tired to stay out too late.most nites in bed at 11pm!! the spa up the road is worth a visit to chill n relax. would def go back here again. great value for money
Fab hotel
This is a fantastic hotel, the staff are great, the rooms are small but clean and comfortable. We had a room in the basement and it was very noisy during dinner but apart from that not a complaint to be had. The food in this hotel is excellent and it is so close to the gondola and in the heart of Soldeu.
Great value
We stayed in the Bruxelles for a week over the Xmas period, having booked a great deal via a skiing tour company. The Bruxelles is one of the smaller places in Soldeu, but the reward is character (in a good way) and fantastically personal service from the owner and staff. It is in a good location, central to the village's bars, and a short(ish) walk from the gondola. The rooms were basic, but clean and comfortable with a great shower after a hard day on the slopes! I had a little trouble with the bed, but my partner was fine, so I should really attribute that to my bad back before anything else. The food was excellent, we were expecting only very basic meals to be included for our half-board, but they were really nice, and we were guaranteed a table during a certain time period, which was necessary given the popularity of the place with visitors and locals alike! The only real issue was due to our room being located on the lowest floor (rooms 1 to 4 are down there I believe), which was not well insulated from sound from the dining room above. Due to the hotel being fully booked, we were not able to move, however the staff do make an effort to minimise the efftect, by closing the restaurant at around 1030pm. In the end, it wasn't a huge problem for us, although if you have children who need to go to bed earlier, I would definitely insist on an upper floor room. Overall, we were very happy during our stay here, and would definitely stay again, although I would ring early to ensure an upper floor room.
Great value for little money
Great location in Andorra, only couple of minutes walk to Gondola and directly opposite the Avalanche bar which was great for evening entertainment. The room was small but adequate and clean, and had the benefitr of looking straight out onto the mountain. shower room was clean and fresh also. We stayed on a special deal with breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was just a croissant or toast, bit of a letdown., Dinner was a fixed 3 course dinner - soup, main course, desert. The food was excellent and I would recommend it. The hotel has a small bar and the beer is good, also has an outside terrace overlooking the mountain. Great hotel, very much recommended.
Wonderful Base
Our second stay at the Bruxelles, and once again it has surpassed expectations. Rooms well appointed and clean, with good sized bathroom. Food is fantastic - the busiest place in Soldeu. Serving throughout the day, when you stay there, you have a guaranteed table. The set menu offered is excellent, but should you wish to choose from the main menu - the steaks are fantastic. The service at this hotel is excellent - friendly privately run, with caring, efficient staff. Great base for our skiing holiday - opposite ski hire shop, 2 minutes walk from the Gondola station, and central to Soldeu's delights, piste views from our room finished it off. Highly recommended - will definitely be coming here again.
Could be better
Stayed here first week of Jan 2007. Got put in the basement rooms no's 1 and 2 directly below the restaurant and kitchens. The rooms were very noisy until 2am in the morning due to peoples chairs dragging on the floor and the washing up water running away. Some of it was comming through the ceiling!! Phone in advance and ask for a first floor or second floor room. The breakfast was very poor and the choise of meals in the evening was begrudgingly given. An alternative meal from the menu gave you a 10% discount. The hotel is centrally located and has a good bar. Hotel was very clean and good decor. Pay the extra and stay at the Sport hotel!!! Highly recommended.
Great little place
Stayed for a week here Jan '07 and don't really have a bad word to say about the place. Room was smallish but with enough storage space and bathroom was clean and big with a decent shower and there was a great view outside the window. The hotel has an outside patio which gets really busy at lunch time so arrive early to get a seat The food at night was excellent with a set-menu that you could alter if you did not like on of the dishes, breakfast was average with only cereal and bread. Only downside is the noise you can sometimes hear in the bedrooms, the walls are paper thin and the doors really bang loud when shut. This was only a minor point though on an otherwise great little gem.
Decent hotel
Room was standard size - big enough for 2 single beds, bedside table, wardrobe, shelf with TV (remote control was extra deposit!). Nice clean bright bathroom with full width mirror, plenty of surfaces. Good high power shower with was nice to stand in after a day on the slopes. Beds/towels changed regularly - rooms kept clean and tidy. Breakfast was ok - coffee, juice, cereal, toast etc. Only managed to make it a couple of times due to hangovers. Each night, you get a set 3 course menu but you can choose other stuff if you dont like whats on offer. Set menu food was decent enough standard - usually soup to start then mains were steak, ribs, spag bol, chicken, cod, etc. Nice small bar and friendly staff. Couple of internet access PCs in the bar. 1 euro for 10 mins or half an hour for 3.30 euro - go figure?! Aspen bar, Avalanche bar, Pussycat just across the road as are ski hire shops. Supermarket next door to hotel. Banks, cash points within 20 yrds. Gondolla to main ski area approx 150yrds up main street. I would recommend to friends if going to Soldieu
Fab Little Hotel
What a great little hotel ! I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised, it's small, friendly, nicely decorated and clean. The food is fantastic and you'll find it gets very busy around meal times as it has a very good reputation around the town, although if you're staying there you are fed at about 7 in the evening before the crowds move in ! Lovely hot three course meals each evening and if the choice doesn't suit they'll offer you something else. We were lucky enough to get a room with a view of the slopes, the rooms are basic but very comfy, a clean big bathroom with a nice hot shower and you're own thermostat so you can be as warm or as cool as you like, also good for drying out those wet ski clothes ! The only downside for me was the soundproofing of the bedrooms - every bedroom door seems to slam loudly, if you're unlucky enough to get a couple of families from hell with streams of unruly kids (as we were) you'll hear every shout, scream, stamping footstep and slamming door. Unfortunately for us while the parents were at the bar getting pissed their kids were running riot around the hotel, up and down the stairs shouting and screaming and banging on every door as they passed. I'm sure this is just bad luck as most parents do have some respect for other holiday makers staying at the same hotel and teach their children the same -but bear it in mind if you're going during a school holiday. We will definately be booking again next year.
Basic but great!
A great hotel, but pretty basic. Rooms are clean and the hotel is newly refurbished (2004). The restaurant is known as the best in the resort, and the food certainly lives up to that reputation. The staff are all friendly, and we loved it so much we booked to go back the week we got back to the UK.
