Flights to and from Sharm were not...
7 / 10
May 2008, Other Dean And Stephanie

Flights to and from Sharm were not good. First Choice, legroom and service weren't as good as XL, with whom we flew to Sharm last year. Sharm airport was not pleasant and there's one cafe/shop that is a rip-off, it's the one with no prices showing! When we left there was a computer system problem, too few buses to take us from the departure gate and zero information. In fact the flight was displayed as "departed" when no-one had boarded, presumably because the official departure time had come & gone.
We just wanted to relax, just paperbacks and sunbathing. Facilities were pretty good and room was OK. Most staff were friendly, though reception staff were not so hot on customer care. We stayed at the Hilton Waterfalls last year and it was better all round, though slightly more expensive. We used the gym a couple of times, it was small and there's no water, even though there is a water cooler. I asked about this and was told I needed to buy water from the bar (we stayed half board). I woke up early to go for a run along the pathway, it joins up a number of hotels along the seafront - there are the usual guards at the edge of each development but no-one stopped me (unlike last year at the Hilton).
The pool and beach were good. We never had a problem finding sun loungers but I placed our towels on loungers when I went running at about 7.30am. If you get up later than that (and most normal people do on holiday!) it might be better to ask the towel people to reserve a spot - I think they do that. Snorkelling was pretty good from the jetty and the pool was clean and large.
Restaurant food: buffet breakfast was reasonable, cereal was horrible, tea a bit stewed, Russians pushing in but we were expecting that after last year where the same thing happened. Hot food was a bit better and fruit was very good, ripe and fresh. Dinner buffet: we tried it twice and were disappointed both times: bland and everything overcooked. We also ate at the Italian (worth trying, we liked the pizza) and the Indian (very good, we ate there three times).
Overall, we had probably been spoiled by the Hilton Waterfalls last year. The Baron is a nice resort with a few glitches but for an extra £100 we think the Waterfalls is a better choice.

We have had the most wonderful...

Mar 2008, Ms JM AUSTIN

We have had the most wonderful holiday here in Sharmel Sheikh. The hotel is immaculate and beautiful in every part. The staff are the most pleasant and curteous I have ever come across. We were met with consideration and regard at every moment and felt very secure with them at all times. The trips were well organised and guides very well informed and made it very interesting for us. The main restaurant was particularly good and alternated the theme or flavour each night to meet with all tastes. The restaurant Manager went to great lengths to make our visit special and we were assured that our needs were important to them. If you go please say hello from Jean and Andrea to them all, especially Assan Aziz! There are other resaurants - one on the beach which is Indian and not to be missed. Also the health spa was enjoyable - go for the coconut scrub! Only down point is that smokers are allowed in main lounge - I'm allergic you see!

just arrived back had a fantastic time , the hotel we could not fault staff extremely helpful polite, the hotel was clean and the rooms cleaned daily towels changed everyday. the breakfast buffet was excellent catered for every taste beautiful mango juices we ate in all the resturants the indian in particular was very good although not a great menu choice , the egyptian evening is a must brillant whirling durvish. the pool was warm 30c and towel attendant AHMED lovely loads of sunloungers available but if you favour a particular spot for £1 a day ahmed will reserve. We did find the russians very rude but they enterained us with there posing. the grounds are well looked after and a pleasure to walk around . the sea and the fish are beautiful walk out in the sea and pick some seaweed and sit on the jetty feeding the fish the come up beautiful colours. we went on the camel ride it took 40 mins great ride but be careful the tea is free but they charge for the cans and try to sell you a dvd of the ride make sure you view it first before parting with money they cost £20 .The glass bottom boat trip was good the kids enjoyed the speed boat the best.if you have children crisps and biscuits are expensive take some with you . my husband had a tummy upset for two days the waiters made mint tea for him which helped but a trip to the phamacy for tablets worked immediately it did,nt spoil the holiday, the shop in the hotel for gifts were priced and reasonable with no hassle but british papers are £4.50 .we thought the hotel lived up to a 5 star and we will certainly be going back.

We visited this resort, for the first...

We visited this resort, for the first time, 14 January 2008 for one week. We were led to believe by the brochure and media that Sharm enjoys all year round sunshine, this is not the case Jan and Feb are deemed to be their winter. We had three reasonable days but the rest of the time we had rain, desert winds and cloud, it wasn't much warmer than London. The hotel was very nice lacked small things like tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The resort was full of rude, arogant Russians, they have taken over Eygpt. It was very difficult to get a space around the swimming pool by 07.30 towels had already been placed on the sunbeds. The food on the beach was very poor with very little choice. The staff were excellent, polite, friendly and very helpful. It was not pointed out to us that all inclusive does not include all the restaurants, the only places to eat were the Tiran (buffet), the Paradise (outside) and the Egyptian (buffet) the other restaurants carried a supplement charge. Several guests were reported to be suffering from a tummy bug and on our return to the UK, I was taken very ill and had to have two weeks off work with chronic stomach cramps and diaorrera. My doctor said he had seen five cases of this all from Eygpt since Christmas, so it is obviously an ongoing problem which they really need to address. The resort was spotless so I don't really know how people were contracting this bug. I don't think we would go back because of this.
I would rate this hotel/resort 4T's not 5T's

We have just arrived back from two...

Jan 2008, spookymix1

We have just arrived back from two weeks at the wonderful Baron Palms. The manager Ghassan Dalal was a superb help and made our two weeks most enjoyable. The food at the Tiran and Paradise restaurants was delicious. Every night in the Tiran restaurant they had a different type of food being served, such as Italian, Chinese, Mexican, fish, and many others. Also the waiters were so kind and helpful.
The lobby area has a wonderful flower arrangement in the centre of the room. There is also a terrace where you could sit whenever you liked. During the day, you can sit in and around the pool, it is relaxing, but you can have a good time there as well. The beach is one of the excellent things at the Baron Palms hotel, there are bars which serve drinks and food, and you can enjoy water activities like water skiing, paragliding, snorkeling, scubadiving, speeboat trips, and other things too. There is a huge amphitheatre where you can watch a wide variety of entertainment every night, which is performed by the Animation Team; this also involves the audience too.
The rooms at the Baron Palms are brilliant because you can sit on your balcony and look over the pool. Some days you get displays made out of towels and flowers, which the cleaners make on your bed, they even lay out your pyjamas! So if you fancy a holiday in Egypt, this is the place to go!

Jan 2008, Mrs E Mee

My husband and I spent two weeks at this hotel from 8th to 22nd November and had a wonderful time.
The hotel is extremely clean and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The food was excellent and there was plenty of choice to cater for all nationalities. The staff are all really friendly and helpful and go out of their way to ensure that you have everything you need.
The swimming pools are great one heated and one very very cold. Glorious weather with the temperature in the 30s all the time. The iced face cloths around the pool at midday are very pleasant. The waiter also comes round the pool with a trolley serving drinks at regular intervals, these ones are included in your all inclusive but beware of the waiter with the tray of freshly squeezed fruit juices as they are extra both around the pool and in the restaurant.
Don't be worried by the shopkeepers on the Baron Boulevard as you are walking down to the beach, they are very friendly, and we found that a polite "no thank you" worked very well.
There is a special seafood night on Tuesdays in the poolside restaurant which cost £13 pounds each but it was well worth the money.
This is one hotel we look forward to visiting again soon.

We went to Sharm to grab some winter...
7 / 10
Jan 2008, sug2

We went to Sharm to grab some winter sun and enjoy a week of total relaxation prior to the Xmas frenzy. We simply wanted a decent hotel, clean, access to a nice beach and a quiet resort as opposed to commercial invasions.
The resort is close to the airport and although the drive to the hotel is not especially scenic, the resort itself is built on a nice bay and has direct access to a sandy and easily accessible beach. In my opinion, the key attractions of this resort are;

1) A great reef for snorkelling, it is ideal for 'safe' swimming.
2) Very good sea views from most rooms - you really do not want an outward facing room as the views are non-existent, although the balconies do get the afternoon sun.
3) The rooms are spacious and well maintained; cleanliness is of a high standard.
This is low build resort with few stairs, good for visitors with poor mobility, and for those travelling with young children. With a choice of restaurants B&B is convenient although we did find that some of the outlets were inconsistent when it came to the quality of the meals. We both had a bout of sickness but this was not unusual since several guests complained of at least one 'off' day.
During the day we were content to soak up the December temperatures of 22-26 degrees, reading several long awaited novels was part of our game plan as well as swimming for long periods of the day. The heat does go out of the sun by mid afternoon (3.00-4.00pm), and by the evening a warmer top may be required by most.
Trips are available but there is little to do in terms of exploring the immediate area. Sharm does not lend itself to walking and self-exploration, other than along the hotel promenades, and sadly, once beyond hotel grounds the scenery is scarred by discarded building materials. Naama Bay is about 30 mins away from the Baron Resort, and the hotel offer a free shuttle bus in the morning but is subject to a charge after midday.
Personally I really dislike Naama Bay; it has been invaded by a casino complex along with the likes of star bucks, KFC, and hundreds of shops selling largely tourist tack. The once extensive beach is now occupied by many hotel beach bars, it is a busy location, hotels are back to back and most are split by a busy main road - Not for me but it does offer the chance of some nightlife which is perhaps missing from the smaller resorts.
Overall our holiday met our objectives and we came back to the UK tanned and rested, ideal for a winter sun break, but not a place I would go to in peak season.

We have had a total of four holidays...

Oct 2007, Mr M Clinton

We have had a total of four holidays at the Baron Hotels, Xmas 2006 was wonderful in a massive bedewing tent on the beach Xmas eve and a lovely time was had by all.
The next visit was in March for all inclusive at the palms we found the food great and service very good. The hotel is clean and being cleaned constantly.
Next trip was in January 2007, everything was just the same, very good, staff are all very attentive and kind.
But this time it was our 40th wedding anniversary and what a time we had, thanks to GASSAN the hotel manager and his staff.
The last time we were there was for my wife’s birthday and again nothing was left to chance, the management and staff went to a lot of trouble to see that we had a fantastic time.
We have by now got to know the main management team and they now class our visit as going home as we feel the same.
We can’t wait to go back for Xmas this year, and see all our friends, and we know that we will have a very special time.

Oct 2007, Miss K Barratt

This was a fantastic holiday! The hotel is spotlessly clean, the rooms are large with air conditioning, your own bath robe, and slippers.
We arrived late evening and were welcomed with a cocktail drink at reception and hot towels to refresh ourselves and on being seen to our room we were greeted with a platter of fresh food and bottled water.
The staff cannot do enough for you in this hotel and everyone always has a smile on their face. The pool is fantastic and if you prefer the beach it is a 5 minute walk and when you get there, there are plenty of sun loungers and your own beach bar that has drinks and snacks.
Food fantastic for all-inclusive and so are the drinks! I can't recommend this place highly enough.

We have just returned after spending...

Oct 2007, Mrs S Shepherdson

We have just returned after spending 14 days at this resort. 10 out of 10 is really not enough a rating 15 out of 10 at least! I could not fault any aspect of this hotel.
All the staff spoke excellent English and were so very kind. We found the food served in the Tiran Restaurant superb and did not try any of the other locations available to us.
The beach is good with plenty of sun beds, easy access into the water and for the more adventurous the pontoon gives access to deep water for excellent snorkelling.
One small criticism we did have a massage and found this very disappointing, the masseurs did not enquire as to our medical history, both of us have had spinal surgery. What should have been a relaxing experience turned out to be very painful and one we regretted undertaking. The masseurs did not seem interested in providing a good result; the massage was disjointed and brief.
We booked this holiday with Portland Direct, who come under the auspices of Thomson’s who provided our rep, Dee.
This young lady was brilliant, so helpful and knowledgeable of the local area, I cannot sing her praises long or loud enough. Thomson’s please note, do not loose this lady she is an asset.
