" This was our third visit to this... "

This was our third visit to this Hotel having been the previous 2 years and most dinfinately our last.

We noticed over the 3 years that the property had been neglected and was getting worse every year.

The first year we booked Bed & Breakfast and was not overlly impressed with the way the food was displayed or kept warm, eggs swimming in fat and almost cold, we thought we would give it another try but only on Bed and Breakfast Basis. In the following 2 years there was no improvement.

We have heard that this hotel is to close in December 2008, how much truth is in this I don't know, if it does stay open we will not visit again we have found other hotels on the Island in just as good if not better position which are far superior and more or less the same price.

" We understand that the hotel had been... "

We understand that the hotel had been rather run-down, but I can assure you that when we went we were very impressed with the overall standard. The staff are fantastic and will go out of their way to help you. The restaurant food is now so good that the locals come for lunch (5-course) and dinner. The restaurant staff were brilliant and made us especially welcome with our children. The chef made me a huge chocolate cake for my birthday complete with candles and singing (and we didn't get charged for it).

We used the swimming pool every day and it must be one of the cleanest pools I've swum in (and as an ex-competitive swimmer I've swum in a lot)- the water clarity was 1st class. Yes you might think it's small but it was plenty big enough for my family to play in and for me to swim a few lengths. I do wish they would put some brighter lights in there, but you get used to it. The bubble pool was fun for all of us and my husband said that the sauna and steam rooms were fine. The gym was small but well equipped and had a large flat-screen TV in there. The leisure facilities do not get busy and we generally had the changing rooms to ourselves. Some locals are leisure members.

The de Normandie is in a great position; cross the road to the beach (but I don't think rooms will get a good view) and one block up to the lovely Howard Davies park and then you're 5 minutes walk to the centre.

I was so pleased we chose this hotel in preference to others. I would recommend it to all ages (but maybe not to yuppies) and we had the best Christmas ever there!

" We went with both sets of parents for... "

We went with both sets of parents for a 5 day break. The hotel is situated on a bend of a fairly busy road, which was at times a little worrying although the traffic always slowed down when people were crossing. The hotel has a large balcony at the front with chairs and a couple of loungers. The rooms were very nice, although a few did suffer with outside noise (from the busy road, and in particular the extractor fans to the rear). I did ask to move from my first room and this was no trouble at all. Staff on reception were very helpful in finding us another room.

There staff were very friendly. Some of the nicest people you could meet. Nothing was any trouble for them.

We paid an extra £1 a night to upgrade to half board and it’s the best £1 we have ever spent. The food was excellent. It was a four course meal which was different every night. I cannot recommend it enough. If you get the chance to upgrade to half board - DO IT you will not regret it.

There is also good entertainment too, three nights a week.
