2 girls in early 20s looking for something a bit away from the nightlife of Malia but something that had a bit going on. On arrival the staff were friendly, but not very chatty. During our stay we had no complaints, apart from the fact that our room was tiny. I think if you stay in 105, 205 or 305 you have the smallest room. Everything is very basic, but I've heard that's to be expected in Greece. We ended up in Malia every night as there is not much happening in Stalis, great for families but I don't think for young couples/singles. It was about 8euros to Malia so not too bad. The pool is beautiful and peacefull, and the bar is always attended. I wouldn't rush back to these apartments but I wouldn't discourage someone from going either. Had a lovely time in Crete. Oh and special mention to the maid, absolutely lovely. She spent 45mins in our room one day, chatting away!

We've just returned from two weeks in the Pela Sofia and all I can say is BRILLIANT.
The rooms were very clean, well appointed and serviced regularly. The owners and their staff were very friendly and efficient and made the holiday really enjoyable. stalis has some great restaurants aspecially Anatolia and El Greco. Sergiani's, straight across the road from the Pela Sofia, is also very good.
We went to Corfu last year and were bitten to death by mosquitos. This year, I was bitten just twice and my wife not at all. I would recommend buying the air conditioning which helps to keep them out at night. It is a bit pricey at 50 euros per week but worth it.
I suppose the ultimate test of a place is whether you would return there. I would have no hesitation in going back next year and can't recommend it highly enough. Well done to all concerned.

John and I (room 105) along with our best friends Keith and Ruth (room 106) booked the Pela Sophia in Stalis Crete for our summer holiday.
We checked out the reviews from those who had visited previously and wondered if they were as accurate as suggested.
Well not surprising - they were in deed and more so!
We were given a very warm welcome by Maria and her family.
The Hotel Pela Sophia was superbly clean and maintained, the rooms are spacious and well laid out. The cleaner is very friendly, nothing is too much trouble for her.
The hotel pool and gardens are immaculately maintained and much bigger than expected.
There is an extensive bar menu available from 9 am until 10 pm every day. Prices are very reasonable too.
The hotel is also very popular with non residents, clearly word gets round about the high standard to be found.
This hotel is great for couples and families alike, they cater very well for the younger generation too.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone regardless of ability/disability.
We have to say it really was one of the best holidays we have ever had. 10/10

I stayed at Pela sofia for a week with 3 of my girlfriends and i honestly cant think of anything bad to say about it. Firstly the staff are the most friendly people we have ever met especially the bar lady Irena who gave us our cocktails with a smile everynight..we miss her!!we were staying in the ground floor apartment facing the street and because of this we couldnt have the windows/doors open at night but we didnt pay for the air con because it is quite pricy at 90 euros a week but we didnt find it too bad,as long as you have the doors open for 10 minutes before getting into bed then you should be fine. The rooms were cleaned everyday by the lovely cleaning lady and we had no complaints about the bedrooms, the bathroom was also clean apart from the floor got quite mucky because the shower didnt have a curtain so the floor got flooded a few times but that wasnt much of a problem. The kitchen was sufficient for what we wanted,we had a couple of hobs to cook pasta on but most nights we ate out as there were so many restaurants around!
The pool was very nice, the size and depth was great and there was always plenty of sun loungers so there was no need to rush out and save one,the outside was overall nicely kept and very spacious. The evening entertainment wasnt the best we had seen,we played bingo one night and on another they were showing Big Brother which we avoided but there are plenty of other bar and restaurants to go to within easy walking distance and i would definitly recommend Sergianis across the road and the Jannis restaurant a few minutes down the road-both great food.
If your looking for something more exciting in the evening then Pela Sofia is about 15mins walk away from Malia,we spent a couple of nights clubbing there and we have never seen anything so crazy! There are hundreds of bars/clubs there and it is definintly the place to be for some major clubbing! you dont have to spend much either because all the clubs do great deals-we spent around 20 euros each one night! would certainly recommend it for a great night out!
On the streets outside the apartments most people do travel by moped/quadbikes which others have said to be quite noisy,in the day they can be but we had no problems with them at night so i wouldnt worry about it. The beach that is just behind the apartments is really nice and we did paragliding there with Alexandra watersports which was amazing, the views are stunning and it was only 25 euros!!if anyone does it say hi to Kiril and Dinos for us-great guys :)
To conclude i would just like to say that the week we spent at Pela Sofia was one of the best weeks of our lives and we have so many good memories,i think im speaking for all four of us when i say that i would recommend it to anyone, young groups, families and couples. Everything about it was great and we were tempted to go back in september if we had the money because we cant stay away from it!i know that i will be going back to Pela Sofia and the sooner the better!!

we have been traveling to stalis/crete for 18 years,i think we must like it there!the pela sofia gave us more than we could of hoped for. the best accomadation we have ever had anywhere in crete and thoroughly worthy of its 3 star rating. the staff including christina, eraina, mike and of coarse not forgetting spyros and his family were faultless there hospitality out of this world. stalis is perfect for all age ranges with facilities for everyone.
already looking to book for next year.

Myself, my husband and our 14 year old son stayed here recently. First the good news - the apartments were very clean and the owners friendly and helpful. There were always plenty of sunbeds in the very nice garden. However! If you want to sleep and do NOT appreciate hearing foul language and seeing drunken youths 24 hours a day do NOT stay here. There is a pub 'The Fox and Hounds' at the front of these apartments which the tour operator declined to tell us about when we booked. This plays loud thumping 'music' from 10am till past 3am and has 3 or 4 large screen TVs which, in the evenning shows the 'entertainment' consisting of things like 'Big Brother' and foul mouthed comedian shows. It is right on a very busy main road so the music is competing with the traffic noise. Add to this the close proximity of other apartment blocks with drunken youngsters coming in at all hours of the night do not expect to sleep! As this pub and the pool are open to outsiders it attracted many young lads who spent all day drinking and swearing and mucking about. This really intimidated our 14 year old and was not condusive to relaxing. We put up with this for only 2 days and then moved to a lovely quiet hotel - only 100 yards away - for the rest of our stay.

THIS IS A GREAT HOTEL.
The hotel is in a great location, there is a wonderfull pool area with lot's of sunbed's,pool bar which also does snack's and meal's from 9am to 11pm,plus meal and bar area on the road side.
The location is great it's a short walk to the resort centre were you will find all the restaurants, bars and shop's
When you came out of the hotel turn right and walk into stalis centre there is a restaurant on your left just as you drop down into centre passed the cactus beach hotel called the ANATOLIA,the food is 10/10,(garlic bread starter come's with cheese melted on top lovely).
If you walk pass the anatolia you come to two bar's on both side's of the road,on your right BLISS BAR,lad on the door is called billy(owner) this is for the younger one's play dance music,(but then again i'm 40,me and my wife loved this bar and the staff were great),there was a greek girl who serviced us every time we went in,she was great got everybody upto dance and was good fun,on your left is YO-YO nice just to sit back and watch people go by,lad on the door is a nice lad(look's after you).
If you are looking for somewhere more lively malia is about a 15 mins walk away up the beach road.
Back to the hotel, the owner's and staff are very welcoming, room's are clean and very well done out, some have 2 balcony's.
Plus the owner will let you have a late check out if you have a late flight, should be out by 12 noon, let you keep room until 6pm for extra 30 euro's
hopefully you will enjoy this hotel and the resort.

my wife and i have just returned from crete, staying at pela sofia apts stalis. after arriving at the appartments at 4am, tired and weary from a long days travel, we just chucked our cases down in the room and went straight to bed, not taking any notice of anything. when we awoke we where so suprised at the size of the rooms, and how clean they where. we went down to breakfast and was met by spiro the owner, and was immediatly put at ease how friendly he was to all his guests, also his wife maria and there three children made the place a very family run hotel. the english chef jim was also very friendly and an excellent cook. the scottish waitress karen also very friendly and good at her job. the rooms were cleaned every day to a very high standard. all in all for what we paid for two weeks self catering at the pela apts was excellent value, with a great staff which nothing was too much trouble to help. roll on next year.

Just returned from staying at the pela sofia for the 5th time. Have been to Stalis 13 times and these are the best appts we have stayed in. Thanks again to owners Maria & Spiros, cook Pavlina, cleaner Ciuri and as always Karen at the bar.
