More Traveller Reviews of Sa Caleta Playa Apartments
A relaxing week away
from teamenglish
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the sa caleta playa apartments. The apartment we stayed in was very large and furnished in an average way for a self catering property. There was a small microwave, 2 hob rings, a fridge, toaster and kettle. The only problem we had was that we had to ask reception for clean towels after three days and our beds were only made up/bins emptied once. On the grounds there are 3 pools, one large with various depths and shallow baby pool, one medium deep and one small toddler pool with a mushroom fountain! There is also a waterslide with it's own small exit pool. There was no lifeguard though. We never had a problem getting a sun lounger as mentioned in some other reviews but the space is limited. There is a bar and restaurant (combined) drinks were cheap, food was very expensive and we only ate there once, plus the bar/waitress staff were very slow. Evening entertainment was held on a stage next to the outdoor dining tables until about midnight every night which was very naff (eg bingo, kareoke). We were lucky as our apartment was away from all this, I would have hated to have been overlooking that. Also on the complex is a supermarket, very small childrens play area (just a climbing frame really) and a small room with internet access (1euro for 10 minutes). Down some steps and a path behind the pool area was the beach, which was small but lovely, the sand was good and the sea was shallow enough for toddlers and small children to paddle in safely. Two problems with the beach were the sun loungers were owned by a small snack bar who charge 6 euros each (we put our towels on the sand after finding that out!) and on a couple of the days there were jelly fish. These were quite small and we were warned about them by the reps on arrival, I heard of a couple of people being stung but with no major problems just discomfort. As for Sa Caleta the resort, it is very small. If you leave the apartments and turn left you come to the main resort road where you will see the commercial centre which has one large souvenir shop, two bars, one pizza restaurant (service here was very slow but it was cheap) and a chinese restaurant (we really liked it - the set menu was good value). Outside the commercial centre is the bus stop that takes you to Cuitadella (you must visit here, it is a bit touristy in the centre but there are some great restaurants on the harbour front) and across the road is the Ocean restaurant, which you can't miss as it is shaped like a ship, lit up brightly and has a huge inflatable play area at the back for children (2 euro charge), we found the service and food really good but it was a bit pricey (about 20 euro per main meal). If you left the apartments and turned right you walk along a quiet road which overlooks the bay and leads around to a pharmacy and further on to a supermarket (better stocked and cheaper than the one at the apartments). Continuing to the right is a dirt track that leads to the Sa Nacra restaurant (down some steps, it overlooks the santandria bay and is very pretty) the lamb there is gorgeous! And if you continue following the road you come to another beach with restaurants and bars called Santandria but this is about 15 minutes walk away and it is not very well lit on an evening. I think that's everything covered - I'll be more than happy to answer any questions anyone has! I would recommend Menorca and the sa caleta playa apartments are good but I did find it expensive to eat out there and you would probably get bored if you stayed for two weeks in that resort.
Been before - return visit
from Mrs_Gannon
We booked on Sunday and flew with First Choice on Friday because we had used these apartments before we knew where we were going. We love the location being within walking distance of Ciutadela (20 mins walk) or 1.25E on the bus and so close to the beachs for snorkelling. This time however the place was over-run with families/kids - we thought they would all have returned to school! we couldn't get near the pool or use a sunbed which were all towelled up - without being used mind - from v early in the morning! The apartment was fine - basic but had everything we needed and everything worked - we didn't try the microwave. Cleaning could be an issue though, not visited very often and we had to ask twice for loo roll. And the service from the bar was v slow - cold food if you managed to order any - we walked away on more than one occasion after waiting to be served for over 15 mins - when they were not busy - you can sit at a table and gain your pension before getting service! We would go back to the area - but not this accommodation. Lots of lovely places locally to eat and mix with the locals. For families it looked great - but not if you are a couple during school holiday time.
A Pleasant Holiday

Hotel was comfortable without being luxurious. A brilliant hotel for families, don't bother if you are just a couple, you'll hate it! Positives are : Kids Club, very active and 6 days a week, Evening entertainment was a mix between shows coming in and audience participation. The daytime entertainment was 7 days a week with Alberto being a superstar. Boy does that guy work hard! He was assisted by Iris who showed similar enthusiasm. It wasn't always to my taste but it certainly wasn't tat as described by a holidaygoer who expects 5 star for 2 star money! There was a pleasant atmosphere about the place and all people seemed to be friendly and enjoying themselves. Negatives: Food was average but took ages (1 - 2 hours) to be served. We ate out every night and there are some beautiful restaurants nearby. Also Cala N Bosch is a short bus journey away with loads of places to eat. The bar is slow service and the women are quite aggressive! The sunbeds! Oh boy! to get one you need to be up by 8:00 am or they are all towelled up! Go to the Oceana around the corner, buy a drink and use their pool all day. Perfect!! The resort is quiet which was nice and made for a good holiday.
A lovely peaceful spot

I have stayed at the Sa Caleta Playa apartments a couple of times and have been very pleased with the accommodation and service. I have stayed in all sorts of accommodation, self catering, camping and 5 star in Hong Kong and Dubai and I feel some people want 5 star for 2 star prices and fail to do their homework before booking a place. I found the staff friendly and prompt to sort out problems and the apartment was cleaned to a high standard. The local supermarket is quite adequate and food in the restaurant whilst not gourmet is very good. The location would not suit all tastes which is why I would never recommend a holiday to anyone however we have booked for another visit and will report again when we get back.

We book the Sa Caleta Playa apartments with falcon and got a free kids place so it was cheap.Only problem was it was cheap in price but also cheap in nature. If your idea is cheap entertainment where the guest actually entertain themselves most nights this place is for you. In the 2 weeks we stayed only one of the 3 professional shows was any good. Next the apartments themselves these were very basic which would be fine if we had regular cleaning. In the first week they came to clear the bins the 1st 3 days in a row. However we then did not see them until 4 days later. I even had to take a tolilet roll from a cleaning trolley as they dis do replace the roll after previous guest. The 2 first choice reps are to put it mindly a waste they just came in and sat around did not boder circulating asking how everyone was except a chosen few who they made friends with. Do'nt use the apatments supermarket which lacks variety and very expensive,Go to better buys 10 minute away. Lord Nelsons bar is one of the apartments main assets but the service is so slow expect cold food and coffee on occasions depending which waiter is on. The best attribute is the Kids club and the childrens reps Kiki Dee and Loopy Loo who made this holiday more than bearable for us. In a nutshell stay clear of Sa Caleta and The Sa Caleta Playa

Just back, 6 of us with 4 kids aged 1-2. Very quiet resort. Ideal for young kids and buggies which is what we went for. rooms basic and cleaning bit poor however made up for staff at resteraunt and entertainment at night who were brilliant. School age kids might get bit bored as resort itself is tiny we all loved it but knew not expecting a wild time, weather good for kids- not to hot. (first week in June) Good atmosphere about the pool. Beach not up to much but nice beaches easily accesible by bus (del ganda?? gorgeous)
excellent hoilday

this was the 6th time i have stayed at this resort and i am already booked up for august 2007! i cannot undertsnd the complaints with regards to the cleaners as i have never experienced ANY problems like this in the past-there are plenty sun beds but as in most busy resorts you have to be up early to get one...and we used to call the germans!!! excellent resort, short bus ride from old capital...but if there's three/four of you...take a taxi it's just as cheap...tip on an evening nip up to the jolly barrels pub xavi the owner is very friendly and he serves up some excellent snacks..
great for kids

Hiya We visited these appartments in may. There were four adults and 7 children between us. We all had the most wonderful time there. lots for kids to do even little ones. Theres a great small pool thats seperate from the main pool which i like. Absolutely beautiful beach that couldnt be no closer to the complex. I have a 12 year old who will pick fault with anything but she absolutely loved these appartments. We will definately be booking again for next year. They have a nice sized park and a great kids club. The staff go out there way to help. The only thing i can fault is the hotel reception staff speak very poor english and it took us about half an hour to let them know we wanted a cot in our room. But holiday reps around all the time so ask them and they will sort things out for you. My 8 year old son loved the sea. Exploring the caves out in the water with hes dad. He spent a lot of time catching fish in the sea also. Believe it or not even with five kids we had a really rexlaxing great holiday... cant wait to get back there.. karen
Average Hotel- Poor location
from shoegal1
Me and my partner have just returned from an utterly boring week at the Sa Caleta Playa apartments. The accomodation itself is average, what you would expect from a 3 star. Very basic cooking facilities and a rather tatty and worn bathroom, but otherwise, your average 3 star accomodation. The pool area is quite small, not much room for sunbeds-Im not sure how you would find space in peak season. Likewise, in the evenings, there arent enough tables and chairs for people and you have to stand to watch the(bad!)entertainement, even from as early as 7pm! One of my main bugbears with this hotel was the maid service, it was dreadfull. The beds were only made one in a week, and likewise, the towells were only changed twice. 3 days the maids didnt even bother turning up and when they did they didnt make the beds or provide fresh towells. Appaling service. The food at the restaurant seemed okay, not too expensive either. Beware of the cooked breakfast, 10 euros! Sa Caleta itself is very very quiet. We counted about 3 restaurants-that was it! The beach is small but pretty. We were forced to go to Cala n Bosch(lovely resort, lots of restaurants around a little harbour) or Citudella(not so nice, restauarant are a bit pricey and not many staff speak english) in the evenings to find somewhere decent to eat. Luckily, the buses are very reliable. All in all, I would not go back to the Sa Calaeta Playa apartments or Sa Caleta itself.
Not for everyone!!

We've just returned from the 'Sa Caleta Playa Apartments" and may I say it was not what I had expected. I read plenty of reviews before we went. I was sure I had a bargainat the price I paid, but not at all, this 'friendly' service I was supposed to receive from waiting staff to maids was none existent. The rooms had a rota for cleaning which to a degree is fine but bins in that weather should be emptied daily and I think from the bags provided they wanted us to do it (never done that before on a 2k holiday!) the noise between the apartments was totally unacceptable, they must have built them out of paper. As much as they tried they could not stop guests appearing at the pool to put there towels out at 6am, yes you read right 6am, and most of the time those people then spent most of the day catching up on there sleep only to appear on the sunbeds around 4pm. This was none the less irritating. First choice's kids club has a lot to be desired my 8 year old son went to there 'wet & wild' event this meant he had to sing Xmas carols on stage? which upset him dreadfully and never went again (I think he may have thought he was in nursery again). The lady in the supermarket was really nice though. If you idea of fun is Pontins or Butlins style enterainment (the type when you go up and are made to look and idiot) then this is right up your street I will make exception for the Flamenco dancers the older of the ladies put us Brits to shame for her sheer staminer. I would highly recommend you follow the road around the bay (5 mins walk) to 'Sa Nacra" make sure you sit outside on the edge (even if you have to wait) and watch the delights as the sun sets.
We arrived at the Sa Caleta Apartments in the early hours of the morning with two very tired children in tow. On arrival the guy on reception didn't seem to have been expecting us and after a lengthy spanish phonecall which obviously we undertood nothing of we were told to... more
