We arrived at the Sa Caleta Apartments in the early hours of the morning with two very tired children in tow. On arrival the guy on reception didn't seem to have been expecting us and after a lengthy spanish phonecall which obviously we undertood nothing of we were told to go to the hotel next door Blanc Palace. The lady on reception there said that we were staying there and that although we could use the pool at sa caleta apartments we were not to use any of the restaurants! The day after we found two other british families had both been through the same experience and sent to blanc palace instead we were also told that sa caleta apartments were for italians only. Blanc palace on the other hand is full of germans as are the reps and all entertainment catered only for german families, my kids wouldve loved to have joined in with the kids club but all reps were german too all in all we tried to make the most of our holiday and the food was amazing and accomodation nice and clean we would not recommend to a family with children and won't be returning.

After reading the reviews on here I was slightly apprehensive about going with my 3 children (nearly 2, 7 and 5yrs)and mum however its not all bad.
Appartments - Adequate - small kitchen but otherwise we found the appartment clean but basic, but perfectly adequete for a base. No sign of any ants!! Maids came regularly to change towels and make the beds.
Food - We were all inclusive and for undisclosed reasons we ate in the Thompson Blanc Palace Platinum hotel. The food was excellant - good choices and perfectly cooked - they cater for everybody. The only thing was after a week of all inclusive we had had enough but we can not fault the hotel food.
Entertainment - Fab. The children loved the dicso and a wide range of day and evening entertainment was provided. English children can also attend the German Kids Club which my children loved, even though they dont speak any German!
Pool - This was my only niggle about the appartments - the pool area was not very well maintained. There were cig butts and rubbish left around the pool which was not pleasant to sit by. However the holidaymakers are as much to blame as they should use the ashtrays as oppose to throwing the buts on the floor!! However my 3 children loved the pool particularly the water slide!!
Surrounding area - very very quiet! If we had not have been all inclusive we would have struggled to find a variety of places to eat out. There are a couple of places in Sa Caleta but thats about it. We did walk to the lovely Sa Nacra restaurant a couple of times which is lovely but overpriced. You pay to watch the fish swimming really but its so lovely its worth it!
Beach - We used to walk to the beach at Cala Santandria every day which, with children, is about a pleasant 15 min walk. It is well worth it though as its a gorgeous cove with a couple of beach cafes and the sea is perfect for children and snorkling! Sunbeds are expensive though!
Reception - We used the Blanc Palace hotel reception as the Sa Caleta Plays is closed. All the staff were very helpful and spoke good english
Bar - Service is a little slow but what do you expect? Its an all inclusive bar so they want it to be slow so that you dont drink as much. 10 min was the maximum time we ever had to wait!
We never got to the bottom of what had happened but these appartments share facilities withe the Thompson hotel Blanc Palace but I think thats a good thing as you have paid for a 3* but can access 4* facilities.
Its well worth getting on the bus and visiting Ciutudella - its a lovely town with cobbled streets and a marina.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and except for the pool area we had no complaints.
When reading these reviews people seem to complain about the small things but you are in Spain, its sunny, make the most of your holiday and enjoy it.....We did!!!

If Lincolnshire had hot sunshine the Sa Caleta Apartments would be Skegness. The pool is encircled by an array of body art frazling on towel reserved sun loungers. The vista can be enjoyed through the haze cigarette smoke whafting in the welcome breeze.
The Catalan culture is captured with a demonstration of Sangria and Paella created by the chef. This is enhanced with the traditional backing music of Musical Youth's "Pass the Duche from the left hand side". Further Balleric delights include Riverdance dancers, Italian dancers and a collection of talented parrots who can count and ride tricycles.
In the evening the complex pounds to the beat of cheesy pop and a gentleman who's voice can be heard in the next town. I completed his movie quiz not just from my apartment, but from the bedroom of my apartment, with the patio door and bedroom door closed!
You can also enjoy several ABBA backing tracks accompanied by people who are not professional vocalists. If they were, they would not be wealthy. Why people would want to listen to singers who cannot sing during their holiday is beyond me. But some extended families seem to adore watching their most junior member whimper into a microphone totally embarrased whilst Grandma encorages with some overhead hand sways.
At the end of the evening you can stand up and do the actions to a range of songs, just like my 2 year old does to head shoulders knees and toes but without the need for Bicardi Breezers.
Just outside the complex further local produce can be sampled at the nearby Chinese Resturant or why not sample the local Guiness at the local Irish pub.
Despite all this I really enloyed me time at Sa Capela. Every evening I found a new ingenious way of avoiding the ear spliiting PA system without eating out every night.

If we'd looked at the earlier reviews on this site before we left England I am quite sure we'd have stayed at home. However we seemed to have had a much happier experience thankfully!
APARTMENTS: Yes, the apartments are basic but what do you expect for 3 star and how much time do you actually spend in one on holiday? They were roomy and above all clean - the main concern (and the alleged 'ant army' was no where to be seen.
Beds were quite uncomfortable though and could probably do with replacing!
POOL - great for the kids - area clean - HOWEVER the 'bagging' of beds with towels at the crack of dawn (All bagged by Brits I might add and no germans!!) should be banned. Some towels stayed there all day without a body on them. My advice - if after an hour no one has surfaced - don't moan - do something about it yourself and MOVE THEM! No one has a god given right to a sun tan!
SURROUNDING AREA - Sa Caleta has absolutely nothing to do so be prepared to stay on site or hire a car or cheaper take the bus - 1 euro fifty for the twenty minute ride to Cuitadella. I would say this resort is best suited to people with children of 8 and under as the kid's club only caters for these ages.
BEACH - First Choice describe the 'beach' as being practically on site. Yes, there is a body of water at the foot of the hotel but I would describe it honestly as a cove surrounded by rocks, rocks and more rocks. The water is crystal clear, and plenty of people were swimming in it but I wouldn't want to lie on the compacted sand as it looks like the tide never comes in. The sand is covered with cigarette butts and I wouldn't want my child to go digging with a bucket and spade.
LORD NELSON RESTAURANT - the food was probably the same price as pub food at home approx 5 to 10 euro but was excellent. Portions were large and the kid's menu extensive. The staff coudn't do enough for us and we certainly didn't feel they were 'slow'.
The days, my friends, of cheap food and drink abroad is over - so get over it - you'd pay this at home!!
KID'S ACADEMY CLUB - the three reps were great with the kids - believe me my son would not have stayed if it was 'boring'.
However First Choice are a bit naughty here on a couple of counts:
FIRSTLY: there are supposed to be TWO different clubs: Little Stars for 3-5yrs and Superstars for 6-8years. The clubs were not run separately and the the children were mixed together as a group and did the same activities.
SECONDLY: Do not be fooled by the pictures in the brochure into thinking that Angelina, Pingu or Fireman Sam will make an appearance. They don't. Quite why the misleading pictures of them appear on the brochure page I have no idea. Apparently these characters only appear at 'Holiday Villages'.
++++
ALBERTO - this is an entertainer who works six months of the Summer without a day off. He was around all day and into the night entertaining the kids and adults alike with a range of games and quizzes and party dances. His 'Spiderman' 'stunt' in the pool had to be seen to be believed!! He is a true star, a hard, hard worker and the kids adored him.
Alberto was worth the price of the holiday alone.

This is our 4 time to the Sa Calata Playa resort and we have to say after reading some reviews we were worried that standards had slipped . We have to say that there was plenty of toilet paper supplied and towel/sheets changed every second day . We had no issues with Ants and as always the staff were very helpful on giving tips and ideas of places to go . There is a bus service to the city every 20 mins with a cost of 1.30e each and lots of places to eat in Ciudadela. Our Family of 3 Adults

Great apartment complex but very quiet location

This was our first trip abroad with our two year old daughter. The apartments were lovely, very clean and not an ant insight! After reading reviews I took 2 toilet rolls with me which I didn’t need. Cleaners came 3 times in a week and changed the sheets once mid week which was good enough really. I did find it useful that I took washing up liquid and a dish cloth – these weren’t provided.
The apartments were roomy enough. The kitchen area isn’t huge but we managed to make breakfast and lunch every day. Our balcony over looked the pool area which was great and the entertainment never kept us up.
The pools were superb and catered for everyone. There is a splash pool for kids and larger pools with shallow areas. There’s even a water slide. Just at the end of the main pool is the entrance to the cove/beach. The waters are crystal clear and shallow enough for kids to paddle in. There is also a small bar.
The entertainment was good enough for the kids, cheesey and good fun. I have to agree with other reviews in that Alberto works his socks off. There is normally a kids disco and a small bouncy castle in the early evening and adults entertainment was quizzes, karaoke, tribute acts etc. Be aware that the bar staff are very slow and we had to check our change as they short changed us 3 times in a week. During the day we took part in darts competitions, pool, table tennis and water polo.
We went self catering which I’m glad about because the food didn’t look great and a few people complained. However, outside of the apartment complex there is absolutely nothing! Three restaurants and two bars I think. It’s very quiet which wasn’t for me. Also I found food and drink prices VERY expensive. Luckily the bus service is great and we mostly spent our time in cala’n bosch and other resorts. We also hired a car for one day and explored the island which is well worth doing. I found Cala’n Forcat was great for kids – lots to do.
I highly recommend Sa Nacra restaurant which you get to by coming out of the apartments, turning right and walking for 10 minutes. You are right on the water front and the food, staff and prices were great. I recommend Sa Caleta if you are looking for a very quiet holiday or are prepared to get on the bus every day. If you don’t intend to come out of the apartment complex then this is ideal. Next time I want to stay in Cala’n Forcat. We did have a fantastic holiday though and my daughter was well catered for which is what I wanted. Menorca is a beautiful island, very laid back but also very expensive!

We stayed in the SA Caleta Apartments...
1 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr LB Byrne

We stayed in the SA Caleta Apartments for a week and it was the worst week we've had away. Ants, ants and more ants in the bedroom and bathroom. We'd spray them away and the next day more would be back. We complained to reception and they did killed the ants but a new batch was back the next day!
We slept very little as we would be concerned about any ants that might be running around on our three and half old son.
We felt the apartement was totaly unsafe for young children - the cooker had no on/off signals, the bed lights had no covering on top ( a child could easily pull out the bulb), the front patio door and bedroom window did not lock securely, and I was stuck inside the bathroom twice as the knob on the door was all wonky!
We did not eat there, my partner saw the menu and everything seemed to be with chips - not my idea of a holiday eating chips. We enjoyed the food at the Ocean restuarant which is around the corner from the resort.

We travelled with 4 adults 4 teenagers and 3 kids went half board 1st week and 2nd week got money back and ate out as choice for half board limited and food was not worth the wait or the money.
GOOD POINTS
Bar staff very hard working and a great laugh
Entertainment Alberto and Lucy worked all day and night to entertain everyone they were great people working with limited facilities but they did a great job.
Maid service sheets changed 3 times in 2 weeks towels 4 times which could of been better toilet rolls were,nt enough .Maids were a bit moody and do not speak spanish the housekeeper a thin spanish little hitler who looked angry all the time and ran to snitch on anyone not pulling there wait nasty woman.
Reps were great especially Jane who we had a laugh with and who helped us all out with everything she could her hands were a bit tied as the manager was very strict but she tried her hardest top rep.
Beach very close and clean.
Pools clean and safe and we had no trouble getting beds from 8 in the morning.
Bad points
Food and drink overpriced and not very nice Ocean restaraunt round the corner cheap and top food and service.
The manager had strict no noise rules after 12.30 and security would come round to tell you off even if it was just excited kids unable to sleep.
Apartments were full of ants and we had to have them fumigated on the 2nd day.
no ovens in kitchen just 2 rings and square microwave bed broke as only thin slatted.
Nothing for teenagers and only under 8 in kids club so not recommened for families with older kids as they will be bored and get told off for messing in pool or coming in and out of complex after 10.
Restaraunt has a take away menu that you are not allowed to take away !!!!
Playground very basic and kids will be bored after 10 mins.
Overall this is a very good located place to stay but do'nt eat here take ant spray and do,nt take over 8 yr olds as security and manager not very tolerable with noise or kids antics. But beautiful setting and nice community spirit with other guests.

this was our second trip to the sa...

Sep 2008, Mr J Powell

this was our second trip to the sa caleta playa..........and i must agree with the other reviews...standards have slipped quiet a bit.
we were not able to get a sunbed by the pool for the whole two weeks we were there....and it was annoying to see the same people on the same sun beds in the same spot every day.
the apartments are very very basic for what you pay and there were ants everywhere....our apartment was on the groundfloor looking over the garden areas which was really good for the kids but a pain in the night with older kids playing football till gone midnight...
we never eat at the lord nelson resturant on the complex so i cant comment on that...we eat at the very few resturants around the complex....ocean resturant was my favourite 3 courses for 15 or 20 euros and the kids loved the bouncy castles there.
sa quadra steak house a fantastic meal but way over priced.....the chinese across the road was fab really cheap and a pint was under 2 euros.
we went into cala nbosch where there was alot more choice...more competition so less expensive.
the location of the sa caleta playa is brilliant right on a small fabulous cove beach its worth putting up with playa just for that......i would go def go again.
the first choice reps and the hotel staff were very good......when i booked my holiday i asked for ground floor apartments and thats what we got and a welcome bottle of wine for coming back for a second time.......
we will be returning again and hopefully by the time we do the sun bed and the resturant situation will be sorted out..

Have just returned from a two week...

Have just returned from a two week holiday staying at sa caleta playa apts. This was our third visit to menorca and on the whole we had a fabulous time.Their was myself, husband and two boys aged 5 and 7 in our party. Here are our views....
On our arrival which was late evening we were given keys to our apartment which i have to say was very clean, spacious and decorated as you would expect, enough for our two week stay as we didnt intend to stay in our room this was just a base.Kitchen was very minimal however apart from eating breakfast there which we bought from local shop each morning was adequate as i wasnt on holiday to cook for the two weeks we were away.
The room were visited by maids a few times a week and we had clean sheets and towels for the duration of our stay.I know previous reviews people have complained about the lack of tiolet roll however you are self catering therefore surely you can provide yourself with your own which at shop was only 95c for 4 rolls.
Facilities: There were three pools however forget about getting a sun bed as my husband on many occasion saw people getting up at 4-5am to put there towels out.Forget blaming the germans for this there werent any during our stay this was all english people, which i feel is very sad that there holiday to menorca consisted of just this location with them never exploring menorca as we did.
The Bar area was a complete joke as you had to queue every time for your drinks as there were not the staff to cater for the amount of guests and also the prices changed every time even when you ordered the same drinks.
Restaurant:This was actually the the only thing that i can say was bad about our holiday the service was bad, food very poor and then you would wait upto an hour for your bill. The reps are aware that this is the main thing that needs attention as many people complained about The Lord Nelson restaurant.
Best places to eat are:Sa Nacra and Sa Quadra(Steak House) in Santandria and many of the restaurants in nearby Cala N Bosch. If you go to ones in Sa Caleta ie Ocean or The Commercial Centre near bus stop they are Microwaveable meals.
Excursions:It is worth the hours trip by bus(you have to go to cuitadella first)to go to Mahon and take a ride on the Yellow Glassbottom boat for an hour which at 30 euros for a family of four is fantastic.Mahon has a regular market on certain days and the shops there are great. Also worth a visit is Cala Galdana beach just past Ferrieres it is a bit of pain to get too but the beach cove is one of the best for views in Menorca.
Cigarettes are very cheap we paid 23 euros for 200 Royals which is half price compared to what you pay in england. The euro is not very good at the moment however you can still manage to find a bargain, the pottery in menorca is lovely.
All in all we had a lovely time, the menorcan people are very friendly and with children especially.
A big Thank you to our First choice reps Jane and Little John who were always on hand should we have a query or worry.

overall the complex was very good very clean , rooms basic but clean . the waiters work very hard from morning till night . the food was ok .i have 2 children ages 8 and 14 and they had a great time but if you have children over 14 maybe its not right for you . the only thing that annoyed me was you was unable to get near the pool unless you was up at 6am to put the towells on the bed , but their is a beach near by which is
very good. their is plenty of places to go and see and eat , overall we had a graet time and we would go their again in the future.

I have just returned from a 2 week...
9 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr J Hall

I have just returned from a 2 week holiday Sa caleta Playa, we took our 2 daughters (4 and 6) who had the most fabulous time. We arrived in Menorca with the sun shining. On arriving at our apartment block, it looked clean and tidy. OUr apartment was situated very close to the beach entrance and on the groud floor. Our apartment was very basic but fine for what we needed. The cleaners were great, in most days cleaning and changing towels and sheets regularly. The pool was a stones throw away, which our children lived in. It was a pain trying to get a sun bed, but you just have to join in a dn get up early. The food att he hotel wasn't great, average english pub food, but very over priced. Drinks were also abit expensive but its a holiday and you are then to enjoy yourself not penny pinch for 2 weeks. There was a shop next door that was reasonably priced and we used to just buy our alcohol and take into th e seated area. I have read previous reviews and disagree with alot of things. The staff att he hotel were great and very helpful, the reps were just brilliant and always eager to please. Entertainers Alberto and Lucie were fanatstic and tried really hard to encourage the guest to enjoy themselfs. The night time shows weren't fantastic but the Alberto and Lucie worked non stop to try and bring fun and laughter to the holiday. Activities throughout the day were fun and included pistol shooting, archery, darts, water polo etc etc etc etc. The resort was just wonderful, very unspoilt and free from overcroweded tourists. We ate at most of the places around and must say that sa Nacra was just lovely, eating your food while watching fish play was great, our children were welcomed at every place we visisted in sa caleta, santandria and the city. We went the market in the centre which wasn't great, but again its nice to be around the culture and relaxed feel from the spanish. The pool was great in the day and the girls spent hours just playing with other young people. We met some really nice couples while we were there, which really added the extra special feel to our holiday, it was a shame we didn't meet them in the first week. This apartment setting is great for little ones, they have a really active kids club, that really go out of there way to make the visit enjoyable as possible for the kids. Overall we had a great holiday and the apartments weren't 5*, but had the facilities to make it what you want it. I would really recommend these apartments for families with children from 2 - 9 years. It was a really lovely experience and thank you to all the satff for making it very enjoyable.
