sivota itself is a picturesque location but is very hilly to get about and the best beaches are not easily accessible.we stayed there in august 08 the apts are basic and the linen wasn,t changed enough when it was about 25 degrees at night.The air con was also expensive we hired a fan but this was not adequate.tha resort was busier than we expected and the bars and yachts were noisy til about 4 in the morning.It was also expensive ,about 5 pounds for 6 sausages,DRINKS AT THE BAR NEAR THE BEACH WERE ABOUT 2 POund for a can of pop.some bars were about 5 pounds for half a beer and a soft drink,,,,,,i think it catered for the numbers of millionaires that came in their yachts in the evening,,,,it was an eye opener thogh,you knew where the money was.....if people watching is your thing then this is the place to be.access to the apts is a very ,very,very steep climb on a slippery road half which was lose cobbles at times and cars parked up it.you avoided the journey if possible,not good for arthritic knees,bad backs,older people or most of us in the heat or carrying anything....most of the shops will deliver free when they know where you are.....next time i book i will take note when it says ,,,,not for people with walking difficulties.the steps up to apts are about 50 to the road ,then if you are on a higher floor you have more to climb.also there is no poolside bar or snackbar in the day....you can get drinks at night.eating out is reasonable,choice is limited but adequate,we ate at the blue coast ,the greek kitchen and a couple of others.if kids want an ice cream use the supermarkets as in the bars start at about 4 pounds.ther is also no markets here or in parga.....we did enjoy the clean sea and the never ending sun and the people in sivota are friendly.pool at apts is small but adeqate to cool off weather is fantastic.....airport is only just one i think and about 2 hours on coach,,,,,enjoy your holiday

We really enjoyed our holiday at the Panorama, travelling 19th July - 26th (2 adults + 2 children, 10 & 14). Pool area is lovely and the pool itself was warm probably due to the fact that we arrived when they were experiencing a heatwave! (42+).
Staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel was kept clean. Library was a nice touch, interesting to see how the hotel has progressed over the years and the amount of books available was amazing.
A good 10-15 minute walk took you into the main strip of restaurants and we ate well every night. Went on a nice all day boat trip through First Choice, 'fish n fun', the kids really enjoyed fishing off the boat and snorkelling. Quiet night life really, but as it had been so hot during the day we only had the energy to eat, enjoy a couple of drinks and then earlyish nights.
We had the two rooms behind the kitchen so no views at all, but we walked up to other apartments further up the hill (quite a climb!) and they had lovely views of Petra. Didn't do as much sightseeing as we would have liked as it was so hot.
Overall, the hotel has a stunning location, and we enjoyed our first taste of a Greek island. The only small gripes I had are, carpet in the room - made it feel even hotter, and the fact that the towels were only changed once in the week. Also, one last thing, was a bit disappointed with hotel food i.e. breakfast would have been better with a choice of fruits every day, and maybe one other cereal for the kids, and the bbq evening wasn't what we expected.
Would go back again and for the money we paid the holiday was well worth it.

We stayed at the Panorama Hotel from 10/08/06 to 24/08/06 and could not fault it at all!
We too were given one of the high rooms and marvelled at the spectacular view this offered us. Walking up the hill was at first quite a daunting prospect, but after a couple of days it didn’t seem so bad and I am sure it helped to keep off those extra holiday pounds which usually creep on without you noticing! However, the higher rooms are not suitable for anyone with bad joints or walking difficulties (or stilettos!)
Our room was clean and bright and very spacious and was definitely one of the best rooms we have stayed in on a self catering holiday. (Please note they only charge for the fridge if you are half-board. For self-caterers it’s free.)
The complex and pool were also extremely clean and the food in the restaurant was lovely. The weekly BBQ is a great way to get to know the family and other holidaymakers.
The family consists of mum and dad, Zophia and Kostas, plus their two married sons Nicholas and Vasilis. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is done with quiet efficiency. Other members of their extended family usually come to the weekly BBQ and boy, can they dance! Watch out for Kostas’ high kicks!
There was never a problem with securing sun-loungers by the pool and the complex is quite peaceful if you want to sun-bathe and swim all day long.
Petra itself is a reasonably quiet resort and not very commercialised which is good. The beach is lovely although the shore is a little stony in places, but most of the shops sell slip-on beach shoes for those with sensitive feet. (Shop around for these because some sell at 12.50 euro when you can get them for 9 euro.)
Molyvos is also a lovely resort which is a 5 euro taxi ride away. We can recommend Gallianos Italian restaurant who bake their own bread and pizza dough and also Mollie’s Bar (for those who are not homo-phobic) which is run by 2 English guys who are a real laugh. Word of warning – don’t leave it too late to get a taxi back. A five kilometre walk in the dark on a coast road is not for the faint-hearted or those who are too sober or too drunk, for that matter!
We can also recommend a visit to Skala Skiminia and while there, the Kavos Cave taverna, which does really yummy iced coffee with ice cream. They have a parrot who will talk to you if you can speak Greek and they are situated right on the harbour where the boats trips come in.
Talking of boat trips – another bit of advice, don’t get persuaded to pay 5 euro each for a transfer to Molyvos to catch the boat. Not when you can go by taxi for 5 euro each way! We learned the hard way and spent 20 euro for almost an hour on a non-air-conditioned coach which seemed like it took us all round Molyvos for pick-ups, when we could have had a lie-in and gone straight to the harbour by cab in 5 minutes and at half the price for a return trip! Although the transfer was a bit of a rip-off, the boat BBQ was good and on the way back it also stopped off at Skala Skiminia for 45 mins – time enough for another iced coffee – rude not to, really!
To summarise, we can thoroughly recommend the Panorama Hotel, Petra and Lesvos in general and would go back there in a heartbeat.

The Panorama Hotel in Petra. Lesvos is family run and located about 500 metres from the villager of Petra.
There is a pavement alongside the beach so it is safe walking, but it is a bit uneven. The hotel is situated off the main road along a track.
The first thing that struck us about this hotel was the cleanliness in all areas. It was absolutely spotless - especially the pool itself, it just sparkled and looked so inviting!
The hotel is built up a hillside which does give you stunning views over Petra and the sea, but if you are in one of the higher rooms, you may find it hard work going up and down several times a day. In our opinion, it was worth the walk up and down and if we went again, we would definitely request a high room.
Breakfast was traditional Greek: bread, jams, cheese, meats, cereal, tea, coffee, juices - and the most marvelous Greek yoghurt that was so thick you had difficulty getting it off the spoon.
We had a couple of lunches (Greek Salad, Tuna Salad etc) and they were good. We didn't eat any of the evening meals and didn't go to the weekly BBQ, so we can't really comment on the quality of entertainment.
Our room was spacious enough - it had 3 beds in it, with 2 singles pushed together, a fridge (if you want to use this, you pay 3 Euros a day), masses of wardrobe/drawer space, a safety deposit box (at a charge of 6 Euros per week), TV and a balcony. The furniture was polished pine. Air conditioning was also available at a supplement.
I don't know if our room had just been redecorated, but again it was spotless. None of the usual squashed mozzies on the walls.
The bathroom was very clean, with nice tiles and a ceramic shower tray and a clean shower curtain. I hate yucky mucky shower curtains!
The 2 sons generally looked after the bar and meals and were very pleasant.
The reception area was lovely with high ceilings, marble floors, lots of comfy sofas and a big TV (we were there for the first part of the World Cup).
There was a very well stocked library and access to the Internet (not sure about the charge for that as we didn't use it).
The pool was quite large, 3 metres depth at the deep end. There were lots of sun beds with a few big umbrellas and running down one side and along one width was a veranda that provided shade if you wanted it.
We would definitely choose to revisit this hotel.
One word of advice for the ladies:
If you intend to walk up and down from your room to the reception area (rather than using a car) and along the pavement into Petra, leave your high heels at home! They will be totally impractical on the paths between some of the higher rooms and reception. The pavement into Petra is quite uneven too and I wouldn't have wanted to negotiate this with heels or even wedges on!
