MS Lady Mary Cruise Ship Reviews
" Superb "
Submitted By: ThursleyThe food was well prepared and presented, and sitting on table of 6-8, enabled us to get to know other guests, which certainly helped to make the week most enjoyable and great fun.
We cannot recommend this boat highly enough, and as a first cruise, albeit on a river, it is a holiday that we would certainly try again.
Advice: Give it a try, and you will love it
Activities: The temple visits especially in Luxor were amazing

" Just returned from a fantastice... "
Submitted By: Mr A PCannot praise the ship highly enough with very friendly staff and a Captain who was a real stickler for details and demanded 100% from all his crew - and they delivered.
The tour of the boat was very interesting just wish it was earlier during our time on board so that we have realised that they washed everyhing in bottled water and therefore would have eaten a lot more of the salads.
Our tour rep Leon from Cosmos is to be commended as it was the first holiday that we have seen the rep after the initial meeting and he was always on hand.
Finally of course a mention for Siad our Egyptologist who was out of the top draw in terms of his knowledge and organisational skills in always being able to get us in front of other groups and had timing down to a fine art.
Would recomment the balloon excursion and the vist to a Nubian village as worth the extra few pounds.
On small negative was that we also had visits to a jewellers, an alabaster shop a perfumery, which I came to the conclusion were offered because someone had some baksheesh handed out. Don't that that spoil what is otherwise a trip of a lifetime for many.

" Having spent such a wonderful week on... "
Submitted By: Mr B WilkinsonThe Lady Mary herself was well managed, the crew absolutely brilliant and could not do enough for us. The barmen on the Sun Deck kept us in beer and water for the vast sum of £4 which I gave to them on the 2nd day - helps to show appreciation up front to guarantee good service.
No-one went down with any form of bug during the whole week, although some people did feel a little off but this was put down to the heat and possibly too much sun - at the time the temperature was in the 50's.
Can't say much more other than I would recommend the boat and Cosmos to anyone who fancies a Nile Cruise.
ps. Not too impressed by Cairo apart from Pyramids and Sphynx.

" I went on the trip with 2 female... "
Submitted By: Ms L RingwoodAs well as the cabin crew & waiters (all of whom were great), the guys who manned the bars were also very attentive. We spent at least part of most evenings at the deck bar & the entire bar staff would pour our drinks as they saw us come up the stairs (downstairs they'd start pouring as soon as we hit the bar).
We did most of the extra trips, the balloon ride was amazing, although I don't think the farmer who's field we landed in after nearly hitting him & his donkey cart, was quite so enamoured.
Enjoyed most of the others apart from Karnak Light show, thought the daytime (included) visit much better, at the end of the night trip I was almost nodding off & then 1 of our party started snoring!!
Valley of the Kings/Queens was also something, the colours still so vivid in some tombs you could imagine someone popping in after everyone had gone & touching them up.
We also spent a second week on the beach, which after the boat was bit of an anticlimax. The hotel was very nice but massive & you were just 1 of hundreds of guests.
The staff were still good, I think they took to us as we were friendly & up for a laugh, whereas some of the other guests offhand (we were asked why more English didn't go there) but all in all a wonderful holiday.

" The nearest I had ever been to a... "
Submitted By: Mrs D CollierChildren are discouraged by Cosmos. The ship is quite splendid & the staff, not to forget Helen the Cosmos rep, very friendly & very good at their job.
The waiter only has to see you pouring water out at meal times & he does it for you so the star treatment at all times. Each day there was a differently shaped animal on the beds (created by the cleaning staff) from the white towels.
At the end of the holiday, the ladies were given a small present from them.
The food was good & plentiful at all meals & certainly varied.
We went in April & the temperature in Luxor was 42 plus so the very early morning trips were most welcome as we were back to the ship most days before lunch, then back out for the extra trips mid/late afternoon.
Camel ride is a must as is the hot air balloon, not at all scary. There was nothing our guide Wael didn't know & besides the Temple visits he took us to a Mosque & explained his religion in layman’s terms, inviting questions on whatever you wished.
It was worth paying the extra fee to include local drinks & water as they can work out very expensive at water 2Egyption pounds.
Forget the Imodium if you have a jippy tummy, it won't work; their equivalent costs 30p English & far better. Travel hand soap a must. Remember only one piece of hand luggage on the flight.
All in all, excellent value for money packed with history well worth it.

" What a treat the week on the Lady... "
Submitted By: Mrs C HorneThe group was friendly and our Cosmos rep Leon and Egyptologist, Aymen was excellent and made our trip memorable.
The ship was clean and the tour enforced it including the kitchen. We were told our fresh food was washed with bottled water to help insure there were no tummy bugs.
The rooms were spacious and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Highly recommend.

" My friend and I have just returned... "
Submitted By: Not SpecifiedThe accommodation was very well presented, spacious and exceptionally clean. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. The trips were great - our Egyptologist YL was very informative and obviously knew a great deal about ancient Egypt. The only trip we would not recommend is the Light and Sound show at Karnak - we found it very hard to follow, albeit Karnak did look beautiful lit up at night.
Food on the ship was of an excellent quality. Freshly baked bread was available every day and each night was a different themed night. The staff baked cakes for those celebrating birthdays/anniversary whilst on board which was a nice touch.
All in all excellent value for money and a completely faultless holiday - well done Cosmos!

" We booked this cruise for my... "
Submitted By: Miss S WoolveridgeBearing in mind how hot it is (over 100 degrees each day) the amount of water you be drinking is worth the extra money alone. Apart from the early morning calls (some as early as 3.30 am) which is for your own benefit because of the heat I could not fault this cruise. The crew were fantastic; nothing is too much for them to do. Very sociable, my daughter Gemma loved every minute of it.
On my brother's birthday the crew had arranged for a cake to be made which was presented to him at dinner, then we were asked to dance with the crew as part of their way of celebration. Cabins were great, cleaned twice daily; cleaners make your towels in different animal shapes also leaving you a few chocolates too. Outside yes the locals can be very pushy but as long as you banter along with them or politely say no you have no hassle. Ayman was our Egyptologist he was great, very knowledgeable, would definitely recommend this cruise.

" I have just returned from a 14 night... "
Submitted By: Miss N OwenIf you are looking for a holiday showing you all the sites in Upper Egypt along the Nile then this is a holiday for you.
Despite the extremely early mornings each day to avoid the heat of the day and the crowds you will experience some truly spectacular marvels every known.
I can not fault any one of the trips we made on the cruise, and if you want to experience Egypt further there are optional excursions available (although some are expensive but we were told worth the early morning call and the extra expense).
We were originally booked on Miss Sara but upon arrival in Luxor we were advised by our guide we had been switched to the sister ship Lady Mary at no extra cost. A bonus.
The staff were friendly and cheerful and generally you were waited on hand and foot throughout the trip.
The cabins were clean and comfortable if a little basic but the time spent in them was minimal so it didn’t cause a problem.
The food onboard was a little lacking in thought but never the less it was edible as long as you didn’t mind having a plate full of different items which didn’t really go together all that well! We made use of the room service for lunch as the sandwiches were lovely and a welcome change from hot food served at lunch and dinner, and the price was very reasonable.
We were assigned an Egyptologist as guide on the first day, we were pleased to have Shereen, who was an absolute gem. She had extensive knowledge of her country and a brilliant sense of humor and ability to make you smile even when you were feeling very hot and tired.
As mentioned previously the early starts seem such a burden to start with but as the week wore on you began to understand they did it for a reason. This certainly isn’t a chance to peacefully cruise the Nile and see a few sites its a whole lot more....Be prepared for wakeup calls from as early as 4.30am.
We arrived at most of the temples/tombs before the rush and even arrived before the Tourist Police a few times and had to wait for them to clock in!
My advice to anyone is drink plenty of bottled water (frozen the night before as it stays cooler in the heat), take a hat and plenty of small Egyptian notes for tipping (its expected for just about everything) although English currency is pretty much excepted anywhere. In fact you could get by without taking an Egyptian currency at all, Egyptians seem keen to be paid in sterling.
The locals are very persistent in the markets/bazaars and seem pushy but if you are polite and say no thank you they never seem to get offended.
It is almost certain you will attract a lot of attention if you a blonde female, as the Egyptians are allowed 4 wives and have no fear in offering to buy you. Its best to wear a hat or scarf over your hair when out and about and you won’t get pestered as much. It starts off as amusing but eventually becomes a nuisance.
All in all its a thoroughly enjoyable experience, but you will need to incorporate a week in Luxor/Cairo or the Red Sea after the cruise to chill out and reflect on the wonders of Egypt.
