Jan 2006, Mr Ian Rodger

A brilliant holiday, very relaxing, welcoming laid back staff, rooms a little basic but more than adequate, on this island staying in any room for any length of time deprives you of unforgettable experiences on this stunning island. The food was excellent, good variety of choice, catering mainly for American visitors, but including plenty of freshly made-to-order dishes, pancakes, breakfast omelettes etc. Enchanting brightly coloured hummingbirds accompany you to breakfast, darting between the dining tables and the tropical flowers surrounding you. Superb cocktails on tap morning to night, fruity and creamy rum confections, again made to your taste by the attentive staff. Beaches, empty stretches of silver sand, unspoilt easy to find all around the island, there really is one beach for each day of the year, but don’t miss visiting the quaint capital city, its sugar mill heritage and the stunningly unspoilt rain forest.

A very old resort and it showed we were welcomed by rain and a miserable girl on the front desk who insisted I had my booking info/confirmation, I asked her if she was intending to send me away if I did not have it.
The food was ok but not brilliant not very varied, drinks flowed and the pools were a good size and plenty of sunbeds, it is a large resort and a really nice beach, we hired a car and they drive on the same side of the road as us brits.
So even better, we did the whole island got bit lost but ask if in doubt really friendly out there, it had some really hot days and some got badly burnt, the best thing was our trip to Montserrat but a long day and i mean long do not take kids its hard work.

Hubbie and I stayed here for 2 weeks.
Although the rooms are basic, they are kept clean by the maid service daily.
The food in the buffet restaurant is fairly typical of all inclusive, but was tasty and varied and most importantly covered.
The Italian, Indian and seafood restaurants (pre-bookable) are nice diversions although you do have to pay a supplement for some dishes.
The cocktails are to be drunk in moderation as they are usually 80%rum/10%coke!!
The beach here is amazing, known to be one of the best in Antigua.
Trips are varied but beware, your taxi fare to/from are extra. E.g. We took a trip to the dolphin park but had to pay extra for our taxi. Just something to be mindful of if you are on a budget.
The people in Antigua are lovely, always smiling!!
Be aware that on the beach you can get people trying to sell you things-including cannabis!! Say no and they leave you alone.
All in all a good trip, definitely a nice introduction for anyone wishing to 'try out' a Caribbean destination!!

Excellent facilities. Excellent food. The rooms are very basic but with such a fantastic facilities who’s going to spend much time in your room. The beach is gorgeous and the people very friendly though you do get pestered on the beach. Would recommend for families, couples and groups.

This was a great holiday. The accommodation was really nice, clean, spacious & air-conditioned. The resort is set around a man-made Laguna so that each apartment backs out onto the water.
There is a free shuttle bus service from the apartment to the reception, on-site swimming pool or 1 of the 2 private beaches. There is also an on-site supermarket, health club & variety of restaurants. There was also a casino & shopping centre being developed which is probably now open.
Antigua itself is a great place, very hot but kept fresh by the trade winds which blow across the island. There are a variety of tourist attractions, one of the best being English harbour & Shirley Heights. The Antiguans are friendly & helpful but do be aware of people selling dodgy merchandise.
It’s worth hiring a car to explore the island but the island isn't massive so don’t expect to see loads of tourist sites. There are rumoured to be enough beaches to visit a different 1 for every day of the year.
Caribbean food is quite hearty & substantial which can sometimes be a little overbearing considering the heat. The rum (as expected) is everywhere & pretty strong.
Overall I’d recommend Antigua for a hot winter break.
