The Hylatio was in a good location, yes the beach is mostly pebbles but it`s clean and has the Blue Flag. Easy to walk to the resort centre of Pissouri Bay, but I must say that hiring a car is a must as there are not that many places to eat if you are there for two weeks.... more

Great accomodation, have to pay extra for air con. The only problem with poussori is the shingle beach which is pretty pitiful, and the lack of authentic bars and restaurants around. As a result it doesn't lend itself to competition and the prices are quite high.

Relax in Paradise and recharge your batteries
Booking the holiday I booked my holiday through Direct Line Holidays and got a really good deal (£253 for 2 weeks S/C) including flights and transfers. It was a bit nerve racking as I'd never booked a holiday on-line before and I didn't pick my tickets up until I got to the airport! The Arrival I must admit when I arrived at the Hylatio I hardly saw any civilisation on the way just fields and the odd villa or farm but the location, despite it being a little remote had all the amenities you needed Location Pissouri Bay has around 8 restauarants, 1 main Supermarket (Joanna's) and 2 smaller supermarkets as well as a couple of bars. Old Pissouri Village is 1 hours walk away (just over 2 miles) or 10 Euros in a taxi. I would recommend the walk as there is some fine views and pleasant countryside on the way (of course please take plenty of water and sun cream with you as Cyprus can get extremely hot) Old Pissouri Village. Although Pissouri Bay has everything you need it is well worth making the journey up to the Old Village. There are plenty of restaurants and bars up there and the Bunch of Grapes is believed to be the best courtyard restaurant in Cyprus. I went there with a few friends and the food was out of this world. If you want a great night out the Old Village beats Pissouri Bay hands down. There is a taxi rank in the old village so no problem getting back to the hotel. The Hylatio Tourist Village The Hylatio was an excellent place to stay. My room was cleaned nearly every day (6 days out of 7), the gardens are really attractive and well maintained and I was made to feel very welcome. However the food at the Ammos restaurant (on site) was variable. On the first night the food was warm and the Moussaka was fairly bland although the Chef's special Pork was superb. But you have plenty of other places to eat if the Hylatio fails to deliver. They have an excellent payment facility, they don't accept money (like on a cruise), you just give in your room number and you pay at the end of your holiday. They even have a receipt for all the transactions so there is no chance of them ripping you off. (I predicted my bill was 120 euros, it was 116 euros so I knew I couldn't have possibly been overcharged). They have a bar by the pool but if you don't want to sit outside they have a lounge area inside with very comfortable seats so no chance of getting cold (in can get chilly in the evening). Other facilities include a tennis court and a rather odd Gym in the basement which is about as welcome as a Man U supporter at Anfield! Getting About Getting about is a problem in Pissouri Bay, if you don't drive that is. You can hire a car (through Olympic is recommended) or you have the option of booking trips through your Olympic Rep, be warned the day trips are a bit on the pricey side. The cheapest is 15 Euros for the Pathos Animal and Bird Park (which is excellent value) to 90 Euros for one of the boat trips/jeep safaris. So if you don't drive or not planning to it can be a bit pricey booking trips through the reps. There is no nearby bus service. Eating Out You have plenty of choice in Pissouri for eating out. The Captain's Bay is very busy most nights and I would recommend booking in advance if you would like to eat there (as I believe the residents of the nearby Columbus Hotel tend to eat there as meals at the Columbus average 35 Euros a main course!). The Tastes of India is also a popular choice (when you tire of traditional Greek food). The Vine Leaf (fish restaurant) offers a wicked Greek Meze (just make sure your hungry). In Old Pissouri Village I must admit I only ate at the Bunch of Grapes. The food was exceptional and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend it to anyone. A couple of people mentioned the Moonlight Tavern as a great place to eat although I can't comment as I have never eaten there. Overall. I would recommend Pissouri if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday with a friend or partner. It's a little quiet in the evening (unless you go up to the old village) but if you want to recharge your batteries it's perfect. Finally, I went 26 April to 10 May, the weather was great getting into the 90's most days. June and July and even August on the other hand are much hotter so if you son't like the heat avoid the mid-Summer months.
great holiday
stayed at the Hylatio for 2 weeks in July. Was a very nice apartment complex, very clean, good staff etc. However Pissouri itself, as much as being lovely and relaxing could get very samey and dull. Felt there wasn't a lot to do apart from strolling around and relaxing which was great-to unwind for one week but not for two. Would really recommend hiring a car which we did in the second week to get out and about and explore the rest of what Cyprus has to offer . Great apartments, great holiday but strongly advise car hire.
Good self catering
We booked this with a few weeks to go and paid a reasonably low amount so were a bit dubious. However we were pleasntly suprised. Teh accomodation is very good for self catering, basic but very clean and better kitchen facilities than average. Great little complex. Pissouri itself a bit dullm, especially iin November! About 10 restaurants all pretty good but not a lot else. The Old Pissouri village is also quite dull and not the 20 minute walk they tell you - more like over an hour! We took a cab but a lot of people at our hotel attempted the walk! Vlad the hotel owner is friendly enough and will do anything to help. Took the Olympic trip to Nicosia which was great apart from teh fact they hijack you to a dull lace making village and you only get an hour and half in N icosia iself but a totla of about 4 hours on teh coach whilst they take you round Limassol picking all and sundry up. Would recommend Hylatio and Pissouri but only for a week, would get a bit dull if you stayed any longer!
Still Fantastic
We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Hylatio Tourist Village in Pissouri. It is our 4th maybe even 5th time there and it is still as good as it was on our first visit. There have been several blocks of apartments added since we were there a few years ago and there is now a nice restaurant and new bar. The gardens, communal areas, rooms and pool are immaculate and the staff very friendly. There are several restaurants within walking distance including the best pizzas in the world. Okay, you don't go to Cyprus for pizza but they really are good. All the other restaurants including the one at Hylatio are all fantastic and do a good choice of food. They are all good value. The village of Pissouri is stunning but not within walking distance. There are also several good restaurants up in the old village and the atmosphere is lovely. Cyprus night in the village is worth a visit and a taxi will cost about £10 return. If you are interested in the weather while we were there which was first week in October, we had gorgeous blue skies and sun everyday and the temperature in the shade was early 30s. The evenings do get cool and apparently we were quite lucky to have those temperatures. All in all, well worth a visit - we love it.
A superb experience!
Just returned from a weeks holiday at the Hylatio Tourist Village. We went for short-break as my fiance and I are getting married in Pissouri next year and wanted to visit the resort beforehand in order to do a little fact finding mission. Pissouri is quiet but it is delighful if you are looking to relax and get away from it all for a week or two. The resort is wonderful and the people are extremely friendly. The appartments themselves were spotless and cleaned practically everyday. As this was a cheap holiday we were a little unsure of what to expect however we couldn't have been happier. I would highly recommend this resort to friends who are intending to come out for our wedding and I look forward to returning to Pissouri in 2008!!!!!
Lovely apartments, very reasonably priced
My husband and I booked our week long holiday to Hylatio just 3 weeks before we flew, directly on the Olympic Holidays website at £180 each. As this is the least we have ever paid for a week in the sun, we had our reservations, though the glowing reviews here helped us make our decision. We needn't have worried though as it was great! Our maisonette was very spacious, with a terrace downstairs off the main living area and a balcony upstairs off the bedroom. The little shop has all the essentials (but no pastries :-( you have to walk down the road for them!) and is very reasonably priced. The pool area was fantastic and the water was a lovely temperature, not too cold at all. We had no problems ever with towels on beds (we are not early-risers at all and not once did we find ourselves bed-less) which was a huge plus - I really can't be doing with all that hassle when all I want to do is saunter down when I'm ready, plonk myself on a bed, open my book and find the page that I left off on... We ate at the pool bar twice for lunch and both times it was really, really good; an extensive and reasonably priced menu included a variety of fresh greek salads, pittas and some international dishes too. We ate at the restaurant (mediterranean cuisine) one night too and the food was exceptional, as good as, if not better than, a lot of smart restaurants in the UK, but with great prices. We did the £8 BBQ night too, and despite it being good quality food I think they underestimated numbers - even though it was all-you-can-eat, there wasn't enough food to feed everyone first time round. But to be fair to Vlad, those who didn't get food could chose a starter and main from the a-la-carte restaurant menu for the same price (lucky people!). If we had to find faults they would have to be that we were unsure how secure the patio doors/windows were as they were quite old and wooden and I could barely shut them, let alone turn the handle to secure them in place, so we just had to make sure we used the safe whenever we went out. Not that there seemed to be any crime about, but you never know! We also found air con quite expensive (a necessity when the temperature is in the late thirties day in, day out). As a maisonette has two units, you have to pay for both at £2 CYP each per day, which soon adds up. You also pay for the safe; it's £1 CYP per day and I found it a bit sneaky that neither the air con nor the safe prices include VAT, so that's added on at the end too! Out and about: Cyprus night at The Vine Leaf (on Fridays) - highly recommended, great buffet and dancing for about £8.50 CYP I think - advisable to book but if you haven't get there early and they should be able to fit you in! Also Cyprus night in the village on a Wednesday; all the restaurants closest to the dancing have to be booked in advance but we ate at the Hideaway then wandered down to the village square afterwards to capture the atmosphere. The Hideaway was lovely; Greek meze of all the traditional favourites for £15 per couple, and there was loads of it! Liminaki's down by the beach was our favourite of all, it's best to book but if you don't there's usually a table free inside. It's an old stone building that's been refurbished to a high standard and the food is kind of mediterranean/European with an Indian influence, sounds odd but it really is absolutely fantastic (and they do curries too!). Car hire is essential unless all you want to do is stay by the pool and eat at the handful of restaurants in the bay. We hired from Oasis (through economy car hire online) and picked up/dropped off at the airport - but I wouldn't recommend them. Our car was a few years old with lots of scrapes, no radio reception and no parcel shelf so if you had stuff in the boot it was always on show. To top it off the sat nav was in Japanese and based in Japan and they didn't even give us a map. We should've gone with Europcar or Holiday Autos - they seemed to be the best cars. Oh well, you live and learn! Overall, an excellent break and we'd definitely recommend it to anyone who just wants to chill out and take it easy for a week or two.
Heaven on earth
Just got back from a week at Hylatio Tourist Village, I had been to Pissouri before but not to Hylatio. What a superb holiday! We will definitely be going back again this year. We chose Hylatio from the good write ups on Trip Adviser and we were not disappointed. The maisonette was roomy, clean and well equipped the surrounding gardens beautiful and the pool immaculate. Pissouri Beach is easy walking distance, and there are Tavernas and some shops in the beach area. The owner of Hylatio, Vlad is friendly and helpful. We decided on having the breakfast each day which cost CY1.65 which is about £2 each a day and for that you got fresh orange juice, tea, toast with a choice of toppings and either a full English breakfast, Continental or fruit and yogurt, so excellent value. The bar and outside restaurant area is spacious and the food very good, drinks are good prices and I would definitely recommend the BBQ night, again very good value and superb choice of food, it’s a set price about £8 each, eat as much as you like. We liked the Limanski’s restuarant by the beach, the Vine leaf and the Indian restaurant, we spent our last night at Ampeli restaurant, you need to turn left out of the complex to get there and again it is walkable. Ampeli is high up so if you get a table on the edge of the restaurant you will have great views, excellent food and very good prices. We went out of school holidays although there were a few young children there, I don’t think there is much to do for older children and I think they would be bored, it was very relaxing and not at all crowded in the pool or on the sun beds round the pool, although saying that there is the usual culture of people getting up early and putting towels on the sun beds, but as I was up early anyway for a morning swim it wasn’t a problem for us. Pissouri is a quite area, very peaceful, no loud music or amusements, although there are a number of beach activities available. Pissouri Village is up a very steep and long hill from the beach and you would need a car to not only get to the village but also if you wanted to see more of Cyprus. Lots of nice tavernas in the village and a great Cyprus night on a Wednesday. If you want to know anything else email me and I will try and help.
loved it
We spent 2 weeks at Hylatio and would go back in a minute. The place was immaculate and the staff fantastic. The accomodation is small but clean and well kitted out. After all who wants to spend their holiday in the apartment!!! It is aplace to sleep and shower. The food on site was amazing and we spent most nights there. There is not much to do in the area which was great, peace and quiet, no fast food outlets and no lager louts. I dont think I would like to take children there although having said that there were alot of children when we were there and it was great to see them making friends and having fun " the old fashioned way" Interacting with one another and lauging as children should without the expense of having to provide entertainment. We went to Pissouri village and it is nice, although it is a fair bit away and if you want a white knuckle ride take a taxi! We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to get away from it all. a little peace of heaven on earth. I must admit though when we got there we thought oh no!! what have we let ourselves in for. However there was some construction going on (although not intrusive) and this gave a bad first impression, need not have paniced though as fears were put to rest when Vlad met us at the door trying (and managing) to bamboozle us by speaking Cypiot. Great ice breaker!! Wish we could go again this year but dont think we can manage. I will warn you however that the weather in August was HOT!!! and at time quite uncomfortable, but the shade by the bar helped!! Local beer is good and the drinks measures good to ....hic! Food is amazing and would recommned the BBQ night. Hope this helps you make up yiour mind. If you go tell Vlad ( the owner) Enginner says hello!!
Cyprus delights
We chose the Hylatio as a cheap late year holiday so we could see Cyprus and relax. We were not let down as we managed to get a good deal through Olympic and the location is great (if you hire a car) to see the entire island. As for the Hylatio, we went there with an open mind. We had read reviews with various opinions but decided to make the decision for ourselves. It is a deserving 3* complex and the apartment which we stayed in was functional with good equipment to cater for yourselves if that is what you like to do on holiday. Though perhaps a bit shabby, everything seemed to work and the apartment seemed relatively clean. The great thing about our room was that we opted for an apartment with pool view which was a stonethrow away from the main complex. It was wonderful to sit out and have a glass of wine and to enjoy the beautiful gardens and hear the pool in the background. For us the Hylatio was great as there weren't many children. The area itself hasn't got great facilities for children and there is no structured entertainment so it isn't ideal if you have a family. There were however, some really young kids who seemed to have a great time in the pool with their parents. As for the communal areas we were really impressed, there were tonnes of sun loungers and a large bar area with plenty of seating to enjoy a drink or snack. The staff at the Hylatio are Romanian and are wonderfully helpful and work very long hours. Pissouri village is a few miles away and is not walkable so you need a car to go up there. You can however get to the beach and a number of really good restaurants by just walking along the pavements (if they can be described like that as they were very basic) to the seafront. We enjoyed a number of great meals down here but be warned that the Colombia(5* hotel) guests seem to have booked the best restaurants way in advance so get one step ahead and do the same! The place overall is lovely if you want to escape for a while and relax. If you want to do anything, you need a car which you can hire from the Hylatio but be warned, ours had desparate need for a service so maybe better booked from elsewhere. Driving in Cyprus is easy though with really quiet roads and on the left. As for food at the Hylatio, we intended to go self catering so that we could sample local foods at the Tavernas. Unfortunately we made the decision to eat at the restaurant at the Hylatio on the first day and we were hooked. The restaurant is out of this world and the food was as good if not better than the 4* hotel we stayed at in Italy during the summer. For a mere £15 (uk money) you could get a fantastic 2 course meal. The restaurant itself lacks ambience with its IKEA decor but the food is amazing. As a result we went back a few times which is unlike us when on holiday. Incidentally the meze at the Vineleaf tavern on the left on the way to the beach is a very good example of local food in a restaurant with a nice ambience but be warned don't eat all day before you go there as you get tonnes of food. So to summarise we had a really nice time. The accomodation is ok although we just used it for a base to see things. The people in Cyprus are wonderful and especially at the Hylatio who made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We found it very odd that so many people came back year on year to the Hylatio but that is down to the staff and Vlad the owner of the complex and the way that people are treated by them. We would even maybe go back ourselves someday as it was a really nice holiday. As for whether you spend money having anything to do with how you are treated I find that a bit hard to understand. Vlad will make everyone welcome and if you just go to the bar for just one drink at night you will find him doing magic tricks and tieing people together with string(don't ask you will see!) He did that on our first night and would have had no idea how much money we had. Hylatio is great for a cheap and cheerful holiday in a family run environment. £15 for a 2 course meal is not expensive and the wine works out about £8 a bottle for really nice red. If you are used to prices on the costas with all meals served with chips then it won't be for you as it will appear expensive but when compared to UK prices it is very reasonable.
Hylatio
We arrived at hylatio and thought what the hell have we done. There are some unfinished buildings at the front.Greeted by owner and given a drink. Pool and studios look great and are but I caught an ear infection from the pool so did others.Studios are kept really well maid comes in nearly every day. One thing i would moan about is the steps into the village are not finished and can be quite a dangerous tripping hazzard,I cant understand why they are constructing new appartments and a shop when the steps haven't been finished to the entrance. We read a review before going saying that if you dont spend there you get shuned I kept an open mind to this and gave them a chance but it is totally true.if you dont spend loads of your money there you are given the cold shoulder .we found things really expensive there and hired a car and went to large stores to get our foodstuffs which saved us alot of money. You need to hire a car if you want to get out and about as there is very little to see there thou it is nice but very quite.we found that pissouri village on the hill was far nicer in the evening to relax.
