Dreadful - Not to be recommended!
from casablancaWoking
My husband and I booked a short break to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. We paid extra to upgrade to a Supreme chalet. On arrival we were allocated No.2 Woodpecker chalet. This block looked like a public toilet. You enter the chalet through a white UPVC door which was dirty. Apart from a very small window next to the front door there is no natural light in the lounge area, thus making it feel like a cell. The lounge area wasn't big enough to swing a cat. Your wardrobe is in the lounge as the bedroom can only accommodate a small double bed. The bathroom was tiny with a very shabby shower. We very quickly decided that we would not be able to stay in this accommodation and went back to reception to hand the keys in. The Reception Manager offered us a full refund and we are just waiting to see if they fulfill their promise. I would definitely not recommend this type of chalet to anyone.
Very Very Disappointed

Our stay at Lakeside was a last minute booking but we thought that at least it would be clean and comfortable. We had booked a Standard Plus Room for which we had paid extra. Well, I wouldn't like to have stayed in a Standard Room. The room was dated and grubby. It had not been cleaned thoroughly for some time and felt to us as though the whole block had been shut up (may be for refurbishment?) and opened up for last minute bookings. We complained to reception where there was a queue of people also complaining about their accommodation. One couple were so disgusted they handed back their keys and left. We just did not feel comfortable in the room and left a day earlier as we needed a good night's sleep! We have been going to Warners for years - mainly Sinah Warren and Thoresby Hall - and never ever encountered such a lack of basic hygiene and cleaning. Obviously the cleaning standards have not been checked by somebody in authority. We would not recommend Lakeside to anyone and feel that the whole place needs total rebuilding especially to give a separate entertainment venue and separate restaurant. We were very disappointed with Warners Lakeside.
Typical British Holiday Camp

We stayed at the Warners Lakeside Resort for the August Bank Holiday Weekend. The chalet we stayed in was clean and comfortable, although some people that we met were staying in the lodges and said they were really smelly and dirty! We found the entertainment and staff very good I would say that the interval between dinner and the entertainment (Bingo time) is not good. It would be better to have the bingo before dinner so that people who dont want to play dont have to sit there in silence! Overall we had a really good time and would go again.
Horrible, horrible, horrible!!

Booked this as a weekend away for my husband and I for our 2nd wedding anniversary - we are in our early 40's. When we arrived a coach load of "elderly" people were also arriving - that was the first sign, followed by bingo and bowls! The "chalet" was small, filthy, in need of total refurbishment and the bed was similar to sleeping on a rock! Definately a Hi-de-Hi type of resort. We were told on check-in to go to the restaurant at 7pm to get our table. Tables are allocated, you had to sit where you were put for the whole of your stay (on a shared table!). Arriving in the restaurant we were told that dinner is between 7-7.30! We didn't want to eat that early (used to staying in hotels where the customer chooses!) and on viewing the standard of food decided to eat out! Next morning woke up with a sore back and a bad bite on my neck - not my husband! but can assume a bed-bug of some description. Thought we'd try breakfast (as we had paid for dinner, bed and breakfast). Breakfast was poor, burnt, greasy. Couldn't find one redeeming factor - so left Sunday morning and travelled to Isle of Wight in the hope of finding accommodation. Found the Seaview Hotel at Seaview - what a fantastic hotel - worth a visit - amazing. Food superb, room spotless and fantastic facilities, service/staff 5*.
Good Entertainment....but...

Lakeside does what it says on the can (brochure!) Fair accomodation - shame our bed in a standard + chalet didn't even have a duvet frill , or a working bulb in lamp above pillows so couldn't read my book at night, despite paying a extra £10pn for the + bit, but bathroom was newly refurbished and bed linen was clean and modern (except for missing frill !) The entertainment was very good, we went on a 60's weekend and had a Beatles tribute band called Imagine.... The Beatles who looked and sounded like the Bealtes and played lots of their No1 hits. Food was....Breakfasts had plenty of choice, self serve cereal, prunes, grapfruit, danishes and cooked breakfast, Dinner -was ok, I stuck to the Carvery every night, which was pretty good, for the money, quite good value, this was my first time at the lower grade 'coastal resort' chalet type holidays... I think I'll stick to the Warner Hotels in future.
More like "Just for OAP's"!!!

Just returned from a long weekend with a group of girlfriends at Warners 'Just for Adults' hotel - Lakeside Resort in Hayling Island. We are all in our forties. We only paid £170 each for this 3 night break - so didn't expect a great deal - however we did expect cleanliness. Our rooms were a disgrace. The beds had clean sheets on them - that was all. The carpets clearly hadn't been hoovered, you could actually write your name in the dust on the TV screen, there were tea and coffee spills everywhere, there were old cigarette butts outside on the patio area, and the bathrooms had seen better days. We complained - and they sent someone straight over to sort it out, and also put some complimentary wine on our table in the evening. The rooms are all in need of a lick of paint and general sprucing up - even when they are clean!! The dining room is huge and is also the cabaret room/dance floor. The food was edible - certainly not cordon bleu - but adequate. They are catering for old folk - so it was your basic roasts, fish & chips, virtually liquidised vedg, etc etc. Our polish waitress Marta was lovely, in fact all the staff were very nice. We were on a mowtown weekend - and I have to say the music was outstanding, we were really surprised at the quality of the bands. In fact - they were wasted at Lakeside, as most of the OAP's there probably didn't even know what Mowtown was!! There were a large number of disabled people there too - blind people with guide dogs, people with learning difficulties, and people in wheelchairs. They were all having a whale of a time, and it was great to see them all enjoying themselves in what was obviously a very safe environment. It was what it was really - if you are looking for an upmarket hotel with great food and all the young and beautiful people - then don't go!! This resort is just like a Haven site, or Butlins, but without the kids, but you need a blue rinse and a zimmer frame to fit in without being noticed!!
Great for the oldies

Below Warner Standards

I booked a Warner break for my husbands birthday, we have stayed at 5 other Warner sites & were never disappointed. They have always been well above standard. I paid £303 for a Premeier Lodge 17-20 Aug. We were both looking forward to the break. When we got to Lakeside we were not shown to our accomodation,so were wondering around, on opening the door we were hit by an awful smell of damp, the windows were covered in cobwebs & needed cleaning. The toilet had never seen a cleaning agent, the rim was black & the bowl was very stained. Many residents were complaining to each other of the same problems. The standards had dropped we were told. We could not stand the smell & left a day early. The security guard was very helpful & shocked we were leaving early they were fully booked so would not have been able to move anyway, no one was on duty to complain to. Should not have to complain for basic cleaning standards. I would not reccommend Lakeside
Its all about attitude.

The 16th of November is my wife's birthday and so I treated her to two nights in a Warner chalet resort. We have been to several Warner Historic and Character Hotels, Thorsby Hall being the best. All have been great. After reading previous reviewer comments I was a little confused. However, it is quite simple. If you like the idea of a cruise and are prepared to accept small cabins then this place is absolutely fine. The rooms are 'cosy', that is small. They are chalets in the Hi Di Hi mode but with en-suite, Tv and tea making. The complex has everything you could expect for entertaining yourself all day without leaving the 'boat'. The food is as good as any other half board accommodation and the evening entertainment is absolutely fine. (I know that there is Bingo but what's wrong with that? You do not have to play, I didn't.) The vast majority of persons attending this Turkey and Tinsell midweek break were over 65 but are as pleasant a bunch as you could hope to meet anywhere. Also they are more energetic than most 20yr olds. If you want to get off the complex then Portsmouth and other places of interest are within a few minutes drive. All in all I would say that if you go with the right attitude and know what to expect then Lakeside is OK. If you want Thorseby Hall then you are in the wrong place. A couple of moans that are fair - 1) The rooms are clean but dont look too closely at the nets or the immediate outside areas. 2) The restaurant doubles as the entertainment area and therefore meals are a little rushed. If you happen to be seated behind a pillar then your view is restricted. Overall - Know what to expect before you go, have the right attidude and use the facilities; you will have a laugh.
Great value for money

We arrived for an Elvis weekend 4 weeks before arrival and got a special internet discount. There was a change in the advertised entertainment (still Elvis) but we were advised of this in very good time. We booked a Supreme Chalet (top of the range) which offers a separate sitting room/TV area which was an extra £20 for the break and it was well worth the extra outlay. Standard of accommodation very high. Food was excellent for budget and location (3 courses, carvery). Very good service. Good entertainment esp the Crickets who were outstanding. Would recommend for people who have no objection to "holiday camp" ethos and style.
