My wife and I booked a non smoking standard plus chalet for one week at Warners Lakeside Resort from the 7th to the 14th September 2007. On our arrival we were given the key to our chalet and we where absolutely disgusted, the smell of years of tobacco smoke was overwhelming and it was obvious that the chalet had not been cleaned properly for some time. The bedding was stained with blood and I am not sure what, and the mould in the bathroom had not appeared overnight.
I complained to the desk clerk and after some considerable debate we were offered another chalet, this was a little cleaner but the smell of stale tobacco was still quite sickening, I informed the manager that this chalet was still not acceptable, she tried to arrange alternative accommodation without success. We were told we would have our money refunded and have a credit note towards a Warners Holiday next year, I have since written to Warners management expressing my disgust at the accommodation offered, I have been offered a credit note of £200 for next year and told that the standard of accommodation is reflected in the tariff. I was also told that people had used the chalet that we rejected before us and after us without complaint. I will not comment on the people who would stay in a chalet like that without complaint but for a company to hire it as part of a holiday package shows scant respect for its customers.
