Have just returned from a 4 day break at Nidd Hall. We booked one of the top priced Historic rooms which turned out to be in an annexe next to the bin area and with no direct link to the main hotel. The room featured a large damp patch with peeling paper on the ceiling, some very questionable stains on the bathroom door and cobwebs around the windows. The bar adjoining the reception and lounge was never staffed during our stay, and someone had to be fetched from the restaurant if you wished to order drinks. The food was indifferent and the restaurant overcrowded with the tables set 6 inches apart. The nettles growing in the planters at the main entrance, the overgrown ornamental hedges, the buckets catching rainwater leaking through the roof and the rotten all added to a sense of somewhere that has seen better days. Nowhere near good enough for 4* rating in our view.

My husband and I and 2 friends have been on many weekend breaks with Warners at various venues and have been impressed with them all. We have just spent a very pleasant weekend at Nidd Hall (2nd visit). We stayed in Ambassador Rooms with patio. The room was very comfortable and clean with a very nice bathroom, the food was very good, I am diabetic and the chef made me some very nice desserts. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The other guests were a mixture of ages ranging from teenagers to elderly, we are all in our 60's. The entertainment was pleasant especially the Elvis Tribute. The hall and grounds are lovely and very well looked after. We didn't get out much as the weather was not very good but we did manage a very enjoyable walk around the grounds. Before leaving we booked another Warner Break for August. I would recommend Warner Breaks to anyone.

We stayed at Nidd Hall for four nights. We were very impressed with the lovely drive way up to the hotel.and the main house is very impressive .the gardens and the lake are a lovely short stroll. The room we had was very clean and a very comfortable 6ft bed .
The service we had in the dininig room was excellent ,and Michela the waitress was very pleasant and polite .there was always plenty of food at the carvery and always a good salad bar.with a choice of tea or coffee after the meal. The evening entertainment was good if you liked danceing to the resident band ,and a very pleasant lady singer.we had different entertainment for the four nights we were there.all the staff were very pleasant and courtious. This was our first experience at staying at one of these Hotels ,we would not hesiate to try another one of these hotel in the future.we are well travelled over the years and were pleasantly surprised .I would say that it is a holiday mainly for the older clientele, but there is plenty for everybody to do if they want to take part in any of the many activites that are there to be used.

I am a very fussy and experienced traveller. I anticipated that I would find some fault with Nidd Hall but was pleasantly suprised otherwise.
The room (ambassador patio) was superb and the decorations and standard of furnishings and fittings were good. Very little were and tear at all throughout the hotel. Overall the building and grounds are very impressive and interesting. I did not participate in any of the organised activities as I had other things to do. But it was clear that there was plenty of interesting and fun things going on every day.
I am not a good food critic as I am a very finicky eater, but I was at least satisfied.
The only downside was the price of drinks - a glass of wine cost as much as a bottle and the wine was just cheap plonk. Taking some of your own is the answer.
The staff were courtious and friendly, I had no grumbles at all.
I would happily look forward to returning sometime.

Reading Mr Jones's review here, I can't believe that we've just come away from the same place!
Admittedly, some areas at Nidd Hall have just been subjected to a very thorough renovation, but there are many inaccuracies in his report that I feel should be put right.
Firstly, the place is not a holiday camp. I would compare it to a cruise without the sea, in that there is a very full programme of OPTIONAL daytime activities and evening entertainment (again optional) which included dancing to the very good 'house band' and singer, or to CDs (not organ music!) on the excellent PA system. Cabaret acts are by their very nature not going to suit everyone, but we were fortunate perhaps to get three excellent shows. Our accommodation was excellent, in a brand-new room overlooking woodland. Since different grades of accommodation are available, it is always worth while discussing this directly with the hotel before arrival.
The restaurant had been included in the recent redecorations, including a totally new buffet area. The food is beautifully presented and always well-cooked, though rather bland. The breakfast buffet was excellent.
The spa area includes one of the largest indoor hotel pools I have come across.
Since Warner hotels are for adults only, they do tend to attract older people, but the average age was well under 65 during the weekend we were there. We found the staff were very helpful, and the service (which seemed to include many young Spaniards in the restaurant)was friendly and attentive.
Finally, do have a look at the TripAdvisor website which gives a larger selection of well-balanced reviews.

I agree with the previous reviewer - nice grounds, impressive main building and friendly staff. Most of the accommodation, restaurant and leisure facilities are in an anonymous modern annex. There were plenty of things to do aimed at the older clientele, and the place was quite popular with those of a certain age, but the restaurant was a disappointment for my wife and I. The food was quite average, and the place had a "posh Butlins" feel. Make sure you get a good price reduction then you won't be too discontented.

The website for Nidd Hall displayed it as being a luxury venue for a weekend stay with excellent food and entertainment. The approach to the hotel is impressive up a long windy drive and first impressions seem fine.
There is a small reception area and a nice lounge just off the reception. My wife and I opted for a signature room which was at a supplement. Once you start walking along the corridors it becomes clear that the hotel is tired and needs new carpets and the walls painting.
Our room was modern with a new bathroom. There is a small pool and saunas, the gym is kitted out with old machines (first generation Life Fitness machines) so if you are used to a modern gym give this area a miss.
It soon becomes clear that this hotel is more like a holiday camp, and the majority of clientele are (without being ageist) over 65yrs old. The dining room is vast and is quite scruffy, the food is shockingly poor, everything is overcooked and not a glimmer of nicely presented food as per the official website.
The entertainment area is straight out of a 1970's working men’s club, plenty of ballroom dancing to organ music. It was an 80's weekend when we where there, the resident band, Freeway were acceptable but again were like an average turn at a working mens club. The P.A. system is very poor.
On the first 2 nights there were 2 tribute bands which were quite good, on the last night there was a George Michael tribute singing to backing records. This was embarrassingly poor. The backing singer looked and sounded like he just been pulled off the street as he clearly couldn't sing or dance and looked completely lost.
The staff in hotel are quite friendly even if they are 90% eastern European. This break was a total disappointment, I'm sure if you are pensioner you would find it very good, if you are younger (I’m 46) then give it a wide berth. This is not good value for money.

We took a 2 night break following a special offer received through the post. As we had been before to Alvaston Hall we thought we would try another Warner break. Nidd appears bigger than Alvaston and offered smilar facilities. We stayed in a Signature room - recently modernised with a contemporary feel. Being youngish (mid-40's) we were expecting wi-fi and freeview - neither of which were available, but they did offer a Wii session for an hour - which only the two of us took advantage of. The grounds are pleasant, the food is pleasant enough (breakfast was better than tea in our opinion) and Paul, the Entertainment Director appeared to be in everything that was advertised: plays; vignettes; singer; wine taster; - whatever they pay him probably isn't enough. He made the break for us in our opinion. The break wasn't cheap and we could have had 4 nights abroad for the same price - which is recommended in preference to this '4 star'.
