Loosing the Plot?

Mar 2011, JADED

We have stayed at the Dart Marina several times and have loved it. In fact we have recommended it to friends and family. So I report perhaps through rose tinted glasses despite having had to complain about the room and restaurant service in previous years. The manager was always courteous and rectified matters.
Last week however I had to complain again. After a long drive we had to wait and go into town as the room was not ready until after 3pm. It was an end room which we considered poor and below standard. The manager however was excellent and relocated us. But why I ask (having put out a card saying 'welcome back') did I have to challenge the management. It does not make for a relaxed stay. I should not again have to make a complaint - it is quite an expensive stay and everything should be right.
The weather was excellent and sitting on the terrace in the morning a group of workman sat next to me by the main entrance (and even asked for one of the patio chairs for a colleague)and loudly discussed problems with the hotel's cable television system while being served coffee by the management. Surely work operatives should be requested to be more discreet and not impose themsleves on guest space - this is not snobbishness it is manners and respect for paying guests. This again is a management issue.
We love the place but I am not sure that we shall be hurrying back just yet until they get their act together.
Again at their prices better is expected.

I had a great stopover at the Dart...

Jan 2008, Mr Sandy Purcell

I had a great stopover at the Dart Marina Hotel and Spa in December 07 and wanted to share my experience. I was greeted and treated with a genuinely helpful approach from the staff and my room was very clean, fresh and had modern furnishings. The hotel is in an envious position and looks out directly over the river Dart so the views from my room were spectacular. I had a beautifully cooked evening meal from the Wildfire Bistro, and then took a stroll afterwards along the riverbank into Dartmouth centre. In short, everything was simply delicious and sourced locally. This is a friendly hotel in a setting that’s unique and convenient. I’m sure to visit again.

A truly exceptional hotel experience....
10 / 10
Nov 2007, Mr H Evans

A truly exceptional hotel experience. I have just returned from my stay at The Dart Marina Hotel & Spa, a stunning place with its own marina, situated in the truly beautiful location of Dartmouth.
I’ve had such a lovely stay with them from ‘check-in’ to ‘check-out’ that I felt compelled to write a review and share my experience. When I arrived, I was delighted to be offered a complimentary drink and happier still that they had extra availability and were upgrading me to a ‘luxury’ room. I just love it when that happens.
My room was spacious, exceptionally clean, with fresh flowers in the vase by the windows that looked out over the River Dart and the amazingly beautiful Devon landscape. I soon found the binoculars supplied in the room to take in the amazing view and a complimentary gift bag of delicious fudge, which all made for a setting that was impressive, comfortably contemporary, and welcoming. The bathroom again was spotless and the shower delivered a powerfully invigorating flow of water.
The Spa facilities and treatments available were pretty comprehensive with a gym, treatment rooms, a grooming room, relaxation area, jacuzzi, steam room and a swimming pool that cleverly generated a flow of water current to swim against, allowing you to achieve a good ‘workout’ in a relatively moderate sized pool area. I loved the pool, but unfortunately didn’t have enough time to sample the menu of treatments.
I didn’t opt to eat in the main restaurant, though the menu did look tempting. Instead I met with friends in the hotel’s informal bistro called ‘Wildfire’ and again it was the little things that made all the difference to the evening. As I walked towards the bistro, dramatically lit outside by flaming torches, the busy staff inside discretely spotted my approach and before I knew it, they were opening the door and warmly welcoming me in. With a talented menu of fresh local sourced ingredients to choose from, I can recommend the local caught Sea Bass. Even the bread rolls were outstanding - absolutely delicious and all home-made by the resident chef. We all commented and agreed on how good the food had been.
We couldn’t resist having an expertly mixed cocktail. You know when they’re good because they have that sublime balance of being deceptively potent, but tasting a lot more innocent than the ingredients in your glass. Smiles all round our table before we left the Bistro and a memorable evening in a fabulous setting.
I decided to have breakfast in my room next day. Carefully prepared, perfectly cooked and all delivered to my door piping hot and on time. I would definitely recommend the Dart Marina Hotel & Spa. Whilst the setting was truly outstanding, and the quality levels throughout the hotel were all very high, it was most definitely the people, the service and the uncompromising attention to detail that made this place really stand out from all of the rest. I’ll definitely be back.
