This is a lovely hotel, but is badly let down by the standard of the food - which is abysmal. There is very little choice, and the 'hot' food isn't. There is a nice bar area with helpful bar staff, but unfortunately they have a pianist playing, very badly, for hours. ... more

OK Holiday
Stayed from 14 to 21 july. It was an ok holiday, not much wrong with hotel really, decor in foyer was very nice. The lifts were very slow, and as we were on the ninth floor, you can imagine how much time it took just to come and go!! The only really downside was at breakfast time.It was like being in a school canteen, taking your tray with you and gathering your cutlery and trying to squeeze through the narrow aisles to get your food. The queues for the orange juice caused an awful bottle neck that took ages to go down. The choice of food at breakast was certainly not 4*,one day it was some kind of bacon and tomatoes, the day after was frankfurters and beans! At least there was always three choices of eggs every day! Still, there was your usual choice of cereals, cold meats, cheese, fruit, pastries, jams, etc.The coffee by the way was lovely!! Evening meals were very nice in a lovely relaxing atmosphere, and the staff were quite strict about dress code, which rightly so,it looks nice when people are dressed for dinner.Good job the air conditioning worked very well, once we sussed how to work the remote control,as the weather was very hot.All in all we enjoyed Fuengirola.Theres loads of bars and restaurants to choose from,we just strolled down the promenade and crossed the busy road over to the little alley ways where we found it really quaint. Its worth venturing these backstreets where theres loads of bars and restaurants,Fish Alley is the street to be!. For a nightcap,Mallons Bar and O'Hara's outside the hotel were the perfect places to go,as they were about a dozen steps away from hotel entrance. They were really friendly.Mijas is well worth a trip on the bus,it only cost 1 euro 20 cents, and took 25 mins. Its a beautiful place.A visit to the zoo is a must too,it only takes about 15 mins from hotel,we enjoyed it anyway. If you have small children,I would'nt advise the beach, the sea was very rough,it knocked me off my feet once or twice and because the sand is very grainy and pebbly,it hurt!!! The pool was big and square, but your not allowed to wear hats or sunglasses.More sunbeds would be better, and you have to queue up at 9-15am to get one!!
Excellent
Stayed in the beginning of June end of July, the first thing to say is that the hotel exceeded my expectations. To start off with the food was excellent. The breakfast had enough variety (Combination of continental and trad english) to suit everyone. The main restaurant in the evening was also very good. The menu was again varied though consisted heavily of fish dishes (as to be expected in Spain) but enough variety to keep a "fussy" eater like myself happy. The rooms were spacious and the air conditioning did its job more than adequately. They were also kept spotless by the hard working house keeping team. One downside is that there was no ironing board because the hotel operated a iron service (far too expensive). Staff were very professional, helpful and despite earlier reviews were very friendly & helpful. Facilities at the hotel were also good. Pool wasn't huge but being only 5 minutes max from the sea is that a real worry. The gym though small had enough machines to keep most people happy. Fuengirola itself wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. There is the normal Brit bars which if taken for what they are were fun on a couple of evenings. To eat out Fish Alley is the place to go (5 mins from hotel) it has a wide selection of restaurants to suit all tastes. My advice would be to have a wander and try some of the bars the locals go to. They were really friendly towards us and never saw one ounce of trouble. Also away from the night life go to the Castle, Miramar Shopping Centre, Zoo and Waterpark which should be enough to suit all tastes. I stayed for 2 weeks which was probably too long would say a week would be perfect. Overall I would give the hotel 8/10 and Fuengirola 7/10.
great food
Six of us stayed at the Piramides in June 2006 and found the hotel and facilities very good indeed. The hotel was tastefuly decorated, the staff courteous and knowledgable and the hotel was spotlessly clean. The food served from the restaurants on site exceeded expectations with an ambidextrous use of local fish and fresh produce and we found the quality of the food very good indeed. Breakfast was of a good standard with a large selection items from cooked meats to fresh fruit. The rooms were spacious and cleaned thoroughly every day by an army of cleaners worth their weight in gold. With temperatures of 34c plus we were relieved that each rom was air conditioned with balconies facing the beach which was just across the road. We found that although there is a high percentage of 'british' pubs and clubs a short stroll into the town centre brough more authentic (and certainly cheaper) restaurants, shops, a zoo and waterpark. The market on a Tuesday is worth a visit as is 'fish alley' a street five minutes walk away housing a massive selection of restaurants and bars with a fiesta atmosphere. Try the Argentinian restaurant there for a fantastic steak - the best I have ever had, and thats something coming from a chef! Also try 'Rons place' next to the hotel for a relaxed atmosphere and cheap drinks. Watch out for the pub reps and street sellers, we were lucky that we were in a group but I would not feel safe on my own around some areas late at night. A trip to nearny Benalmadena is well worth a visit, the Sea life centre and crazy golf course is fun for all the family and the harbour there provides very reasonable boat trips. We even got caught up in a dolphin rescue. Overall I would give the hotel 8/10, with the more authentic town centre 7/10.
Value for money
We stayed in this hotel for my hen weekend. I had a look on trip advisor before booking and it had mixed review so I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this hotel. Reception area was really welcoming. Swimming pool was a bit on the small side but fine for us. Rooms were nice and clean. Breakfast was much better than expected with a wide range to choose from. You can have anything from a cooked breakfast to a bowl of fruit. Good location, right near the beach. 10 - 15 walk to the main part of Feungirola which is fine as you don't want to be in middle of it as the bars would keep you awake at night. Everyone in our group liked this hotel. All in all perfect for a short break but would not reccommend for a two week holiday.
Not bad for the money
We stayed here in June 2006 and i would describe it as adequate. We had our two little girls with us and the hotel does not cater for children. We arrived in the restraunt that serves ok food (BHS on a good day), they had two high chairs and they were already in use. Several parents had to have children on the laps. The swimming pool is very nice but has no shallow end so it totaly useless for children. If you buy a drink in the bar make sure it is during happy hour, if it is not you will need a few to cop with the bill at the end. The resort is very nice, long prom for good walks, lots of good shopping and a great zoo. We thought the resort was a definate must visit again, and the hotel a no way never again.
las piramides fuengirola
This was our first visit to the costa del sol and we had a good hot week, the hotel was nice and clean but the staff weren't over friendly, a few tried very hard to be happy and friendly but most didn't seem to be very happy in their work. Breakfasts were typical spanish hotel breakfasts ie:not a patch on a british fry up but there were plenty of cereals and fruit to be had, the evening meals were very good with a good selection of fish dish's as well as a good choice for those that do not like fish, again the deserts were the same as any other spanish hotel and those who have stayed in a few will know what they are and what to expect. The pool is a decent size with the sun on it all day long and the week we were there we never had a problem getting sunbeds at any time of day, The resort as a whole was very quiet with most of the pubs only having a few people in them and not too many with entertainment. we did find a nice pub called the gun pub just 5 mins from the hotel with acts on everynight run by a nice family from norfolk. The trips too Gibralta and Porta benus are worth going on if you've not been before espec' the rock tour on Gibralta. There is a water park a short distance from the hotel but we didn't visit it. Beware of the guy s with the scratch cards in the resort as they are very good at what they do, they will tell you that you have won a star prize which will be either a dvd player or camcorder, a free holiday or 600 euro's, and whisk you off in a free taxi to their offices where they will try to get you to sign up for their holiday club, when they have finished and eventually tell you that it will cost £10,995 for 50 year membership, you will get your prize "which will be the holiday everytime" and a free taxi to where ever you want but if you dont sign they are not happy.
Las Piramides, Fuengirola
We really liked the hotel itself, it was clean, staff was nice. But the thing that brings the quality down is the breakfast! Welcome to fat heaven! It was a strange mixture of fatty, unhealthy food and not prepared very well. They did offer fruit, but that won't keep you full for very long! That was our only complaint, though. Good location. Fuengirola itself seems to be targeting teenagers, or at least people that just want to go away and party and eat English food. Be prepared that almost everything seems to come with chips, all eating places along the boardwalk are British! We did find an excellent TexMex restaurant not too far away from the hotel. We went on a bus trip to the little town of Mijas which was nice in itself but again - all eating places offered British food!! So, all in all it was a nice little break away but next time we'll choose a place more like the real Spain!!
Spain 2006
Recently stayed at the Las Piramides Hotel in Fuengirola. The hotel was generally clean. The breakfast was OK and the rooms fairly comfortable although NOT enough pillars are provided. As the pillars are small you need at least three to be comfortable. The TV was basic but adequate. The staff were friendly and the hotel generally represented good value for money. The pool was clean and the main area of Fuengirola only ten minutes walk away.
las piramides
For a so-called 4 star hotel, it was very disappointing. decor and overall standard was low. On arrival, room was not ready and then we had to wait ages for our lugguage, in the end we went down and got them ourselves. Dirty, unchanged sheets and a tv that blew up as soon as we switched it on, not that we should have bothered as all we had to watch was a news channel. Standard of food was dreadful, unless youre preference is slightly warm, overcooked, greasy and salty food! Evening "entertainment" consists of a man trying to play a piano, but why he bothered to have sheets of music in front of him i do not now. Only good thing was happy hour, 2 drink for price of one and believe me staying here, you need them!!!
Better than expected
After reading some of the previous reveiws I was a little apprehensive. The accommodation was better than expected very clean and spacious with a well equiped kitchen area. The pool area was OK but the sun only appears on small areas of the poolside. The bar and snack bar could easily have been in Blackpool with no local flavour. However do not expect to sleep here. The people staying were not overly noisy (except for one night) but the design seems to create an echo chamber combine this with the hardest beds I have ever tried to sleep on at it was a problem.
