Rock House Hotel

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a week in June of 2004. After reading all the glowing reviews on this site and others, we thought a fantastic, relaxing vacation at the Rockhouse was a safe bet. We stayed at the resort in January 2004 and were quite disappointed. The web site and all of the press the resort receives is very impressive. However, upon arriving at the hotel I said, "wow, they have a great photographer and press agent". The photos did not show the grime and lack of upkeep in the villas. I was excited since I had read the resort had recently undergone renovations. I would have hated to see it before if this is what they considered an improvement. My boyfriend and I stayed there over the new year. We stayed in a standard room and I was really dissapointed. We first got to know about the hotel through a website called tablet hotels which features good hotels at the high end of the spectrum and we have stayed in several hotels recommended by them around the world so I was expecting a similar standard. My partner and I just got back from a week at the Rockhouse (Dec.18-26) and we had a great time. We wanted a "Girls Go Read" instead of "Girls Gone Wild" type of atmosphere, and we were in luck. We knew that Jamaica has strong anti-gay laws and beliefs (generally) so we spent a lot of our time there a little unsure as to whether we should be 'out' or not. The Rockhouse is a jewel of a place. My girlfriend and I recently spent eight days there, splitting our time between a studio and a villa. Though somewhat small, the studio is augmented by an oversized balcony which actually serves as a cozy sitting room with two lounge chairs, a small dining table and two dining chairs. Other bonuses of the studio include the outdoor shower and close proximity to the pool, a brilliant spot both physically and spiritually (it’s like a balm for your soul). We stayed at the Rockhouse from December 13 to 20, 2004. It was great! We stayed in one of the Villas (number 12), with a loft. Our balcony overlooked the Carribean from a 30 foot cliff. The location was ideal. The villas were very spacious and clean. The grounds were beautiful and showed no signs of damage from the hurriacane. We stayed at Rockhouse for 8 days, ending on the 27th of November. Set on a pristine rock formation at the west end of Negril, it was relatively untouched by the hurricane while other adjacent hotels / restaurants were destroyed. I couldn’t possibly say enough good things about this relatively undiscovered hotel. The food was first rate and the best you will find in Negril. I just came back from the Rockhouse -- we had our wedding there - 40 guests from all over and everyone just loved it. The people are amazing, the villas are wonderful, the food was great. The whole experience was nothing short of heavenly. If you want a truly special vacation, skip the big all-inclusives and stay at the Rockhouse! It's amazing!

We stayed at Rockhouse in Negril for one night in October. We had a standard room which was charming and very romantic with a mosquito net and ceiling fan. Dinner was served on their terrace perched above the rocks, a wonderful setting to enjoy delicious food. It was a charming experience and one we plan to re-capture.

My husband and I planned a romantic 5th year anniversary trip to the Rockhouse. We were thrilled when we arrived to see that the actual place was even better than the pictures on the web. The views are spectacular. We stayed in a studio, which was very charming. It was great to wake up and look out straight ahead to the ocean. There was some damage caused by Ivan, however it did not detract from the beauty and superb service.
