Great place but be careful!
from wocketinmypocket
The resort is nice. It's a good size, not too small or too big. The rooms are larger than average and have a drop down sitting area with a daybed and trundle underneath. There are a lot of USA stations on the TV. There are no washcloths for some reason. They give you one towel and one hand towel per person. The water temperature and pressure was normal. Our room was always cleaned. Like most people said, the food was OK. There wasn't a large variety...probably because the resort isn't that big. We always found things to eat. If you are expecting American food, you will be very disappointed! By the end of the week, we were tired of the food and ready for a USA meal. We didn't eat at any of the restaurants because you have to make reservations, and we didn't want to be on a time schedule. Plus, we have heard many bad things about the restaurants. The long wait, poor food, etc. The service at the buffet was not consistent. Some days/nights we had great service. Other nights our drinks never arrived or our drink order was never even taken. A few times we went behind the service area and got our own water. But most of the staff is very nice. The beach is absolutely beautiful. There is a lot of seaweed, but they rake it up every morning. There are nice waves and the water is warm. We went on the Sanoa Island excursions. I do not recommend it. They make it sound as though you get to spend the whole day at the island and the natural swimming pool. This is not true. The vast majority of your day is spent driving and boating. The Catamaran was very small, uncomfortable, and very boring. Once you get to the island, you eat lunch and only have about 1.5 hours before you have to leave. Then, they take you to the natural swimming pool and you have 20 minutes. It was not worth the time or $ at all! We would of had a much better time spending the day at the resort. Save your money!! Be very careful about the food! We got very very sick and so did everyone else we met. It was not a good situation. They must have some bacteria problems or something with the food. I know it was not just one night or one certain food, because everyone was sick at different times. I have traveled quite a bit and this is the first time I have had a problem and seen so many others sick also. Be very careful and brings lots and lots of medicine.

The good, the Bad, and THE UGLY! May 17th – May 24th 4* Superior All-Inclusive, Sunquest Vacation from Toronto Punta Cana Princess All Suites Resort and Spa PRINCESS HOTELS Canadian (English Speaking) couple. Early 30’s with some sun travel experience.(St. Lucia, Veradero, Jamaica x2, Cayo Coco x4. All, all-inclusive, 4 or 4+ Stars) V.I.P. Package with flight, transfers and insurance. Superior Room, Ocean view. $1300 Canadian x2 We delayed with this posting to make sure that our credit charges were accurate. (They were.) Hotel was about 1/5th occupied and was very quite except for spa construction that started at 10 a.m. outside our room (We didn’t mind. Should be finished by now.) Winds off the ocean were constant all week and seemed to be that way all the time by the look of the 55-degree angled palm trees (growing that way) Rain every day at some point. Overcast, 4 of 7 days. Sunny, or party cloudy, 3 of 7 days. 30+ degree C. Daily. Little humidity (due to the wind.) The good: · Beautiful new hotel. Huge marble lobby floor with reception/bar/ special services/internet/tour rep./area. Nice finishes throughout. The hotel is shaped like a oversize horseshoe, where the bend in the horseshoe is the reception area, buffet, restaurants (x2), tourist shops, and doctors (secondary) office. The “arms” of the horseshoe are the rooms. Sets of 3 story, “Spanish” style, motel like buildings running down each side of a beautiful garden area, (with concrete sculptures making for some interesting for photo opportunities), large pool with swim up bar and kiddie pool as well as a spa area (under construction). The end of the horseshoe on the left side is the “superior” honeymoon rooms with direct ocean views. The right side of the horseshoe ends with the Kiddie Play area and the 24 hour beach bar and restaurant. · Beautiful beaches. Pure white, cleaned (seaweed) daily, little waves, warm winds. A beach activity centre is located on the beach. Abundant shade huts and reclining beach chairs for amount of guests. · Strong Sun. Tanned pretty well despite whether. · We had a 3rd floor room, 1 down from the honeymoon end rooms with a pool view, looking down the beach with a partial ocean view. Our superior room was fantastic. Checkered tiles, very large comfy King Size bed (bedside lights and phone), sunken living room with view, “ satellite” TV. (27 U.S. channels?). Day bed and stocked mini-bar (4 water, 2 beer, 2 Pepsi, 2 Sprite). Beach Towels, easy to use safe, iron & board supplied. Huge bathroom with 2 sinks, amenities (Towels etc.) stocked daily, shower tub and 2nd phone by the toilet?! A/C and room fan. 2 locks on room door. · Large private balcony provided good views down the beach and of the pool. Partial ocean view. · Maid was friendly and was good at stocking towels and general cleaning of room. (Being generous with small gifts daily may have helped.) · Use of the neighbouring resorts, (Tropical Princess and Caribe Club Princess.) both to the right of the hotel. More restaurants, sports, bars, and entertainment. Mini train (golf cart) transportation offered to the other resorts. About 2-3 mins. (+ the wait) · Guest services spoke English and was very nice and informative. · Coco Tours (to book tours, golf etc.) rep. also spoke English and very nice. · Food was abundant at the buffet and there was a big selection · Good selection of beer and spirits. · Tex-Mex and Italian restaurant on site. · Nice lunch buffet at the pool bar for salads, pizza, chicken and burgers. · Immediate reception and Bell Hop service (baggage delivery and pick-up.) · 24-hour security guard at all entry’s to resort. · No harassment by staff or locals to buy goods on resort. · Spa is located just outside the lobby. ½ hour massage included with V.I.P. · V.I.P. Package Included Complimentary Rum, Cigars, use of robes and in room beach towels. 2 a-la Carte Dinners plus massage at spa. · Generally, a very nice hotel by first impressions. The Bad: · Structured, un-personal service by all service staff. · The walk from the lobby, restaurants, buffet, is quite long to any of the superior rooms, pool, and beach. · Entertainment/ sports board is the same every day. · No entertainment at this resort except a D.J. or small 2 or 3 piece band playing at the lobby as well as the exercise classes on the beach and pool. · Service staff spoke very little or no English and had little customer service skills other than to serve any remove food and drink. Although we didn’t ask for much it seemed like a lot of work to get it, especially at the 24 hour beach restaurant when the buffet was not available. (Tipping doesn’t help.) · Can only drink and brush teeth with bottled water. · Oversized, (too thick) uncomfortable bed pillows, we couldn’t use. · Stocked fridge varied from day to day. (2 water, 2 coke, no sprite, 2 beer. OR 4 water, no beer, 4 cokes. ??) · The resort “train” to other hotels arrived inconsistently or not at all. In fact, we watched a number of times as the train circled outside our hotel and turn back into the two neighbouring hotels.( ½ hour wait on two occasions.) Many times we just ended up walking (5 mins. within resort complex along an uninteresting resort entry road with some speeding traffic from the joining hotel supply road) · Entertainment at the other hotels was not that entertaining and very amateurish. · The Disco is just off the resort and is open to the public. The day we went to the Disco was a cover charge of $5 (with our hotel “all-inclusive” wrist bands) although we we’re told it was included as guests of the resort. “Live D.J.” we we’re told, but never entered and never visited again. Drinks included? · The food seemed to be cooked in the same grease and tasted much alike. · All a-la Carte restaurants are not open daily therefore, require a trip to the other hotels if you want to try something different. Book the day before and leave early! No train arrived for us and other guests. We ended up walking in the rain to or reserved (the day before only) dinner. Food tasted much the same as the buffet, which was open ‘til 10 p.m.. Our choice, after our a-la Carte experiences but still very structured, un-personal service. · Train route (when it does come) to the other resorts is through a “rain forest” which is a nice cover for the “sewage treatment” location. · Spa is located at the entrance to the resort and the hotel supply road. Massage was interrupted several times by arriving bus and supply/construction truck noise. · Mini-putt in neighbour resort is un-kept. Branches, leaves and grip-less putters. · Golf Tour is offered at $195.00 U.S for 3 rounds with a cart. When arrived I asked for that offer and was told that I had to call from my room to book and arrange my own transportation at a cost of at least $25 U.S. / return by taxi. Therefore, a total cost of 280.00 with telephone calls. Unsure of the quality of the course I opted for I round at $110U.S., toured, to the Punta Cana Golf Club. The day of my trip, my ride didn’t arrive and a taxi was sent for me 45 mins. later. The course was nice and the course representative felt bad enough and gave me a ride back to the hotel telling me of the recent political and financial turmoil within the Dominican. 50 Dominican $’s to 1 U.S.$ from 17$’s to 1. in two years. · Went back to Punta Cana golf ( asked but, no discount )and was charged additional $25U.S. after “haggling” from an asking price of 40$ for my partner to join me as a guest. $25U.S. for her to ride in the cart! · Other neighbouring (Caribe and Tropical Princess) resorts offered more but seemed like more work than any of it was worth. THE UGLY: · Shower pressure and hot water was non-existent both in the morning and early evening. · Our phone bill was charged an additional $1.25U.S for a local call that was not made by either of us. We suspect it was the maid service. An insufficient amount to raise a “sewage treatment stink”, we paid our bill without a reasonable explanation from reception. · In order to take advantage of your final day, there’s a courtesy room located just beside the reception area. (A nice feature, we thought.) “The only one’s with a key are the Bell Hop and the Security at the front” we we’re told. Check-out was a noon and our bus left at 5:00 p.m. so we had our bags “securely” stored within the courtesy room and went a enjoyed our last day at the beach. Returning at 4:00 p.m. we had 1 set of our bags removed by the security guard so that we could wash up and change for our trip home. After returning to the lobby from the washroom we lounged within the lobby before our departure. Seeing the security guard enter the courtesy room and not wanting to ask for him to open the door again for the remainder of our bags, I went to retrieve them. Arriving at the entrance to the courtesy room I found, his back to me, the guard putting papers into his back, right-hand pocket. During this motion he saw me standing, watching him. Upon relizing, my witness to this, he quickly removed the documents from his pocket and put them into an open pocket of one of the other guests bags. He was searching through the guest(s) bags!!!! This from their head of “security”! We can only imagine. What did I do? I quietly asked for my bags (locked compartments) and asked others to check theirs. (No others on our bus reported anything missing although several reported opened compartments) I also notified the Coco Tours rep. on our bus that said, she “would report him”. We don’t blame the security guard for such an action with the financial state of the country. However, I due blame Princess Hotels for underpaying their security, driving them to such actions, or for not hiring outside help willing to act in the best interests of their guests. NOTE: This was the first time, at any resort we have ever visited, that each and every departing guest was waiting in the lobby, 1 hour prior to the bus leaving to the airport. Side Note: We are collectors of novelty spoons. Awaiting our departure at the Punta Cana Airport we found 1 last spoon at the “Duty Free”, clearly priced at $10U.S. This for a $2 spoon. Undeterred, I tried to purchase the spoon for the $10 marked. The cashier, not finding the right “code” in her computer, asked management, who then told me it was incorrectly marked and should be priced at $12. Deterred, we came home without the spoon. Overall, The Punta Cana All-Suites Resort 4*Superior: 3+ Stars Punta Cana All-Suites Hotel service: 2+ Stars. The Superior room: 3+ Star (4+ with hot water and pressure) The Resort(s): 4 Star Good First Impressions, POOR LASTING IMPRESSIONS! NOT RECOMMENDED! (From our experience, we don’t know how so many good reviews about this hotel are posted on this site.)
This place is fantastic!

My boyfriend and I just returned from a stay at this resort (June 4-7) and it was a great, relaxing getaway. I would highly recommend the Punta Cana Princess to anyone looking for the same! The hotel itself is pretty new, and it shows. Our room was spacious and clean. The maid stocked our minibar and left us fresh flowers every day. We had a balcony overlooking the pool area, but it was surprisingly quiet … with the sliding door shut, you would never know there were people out there! The food was as we expected, but neither of us are picky eaters. We ate at the buffet for breakfast and lunch, the seafood restaurant by the beach (Mere Nostrum) and La Cava for dinner. The service at both was excellent. If you’re looking for a little more variety, I would try the buffet at the Caribe. We never ate there, but it looked like there were a lot more options. Mostly, we just sat on the beach or by the pool. No matter where you are at this resort, however, it is impeccably clean and well cared for. We did take the snorkeling trip offered by the hotel. It was definitely fun, but unspectacular. We saw lots of little fish, but that’s about it. Then again, it was only $20 US. I would recommend it if you’re looking for something cheap and fun to do, but don’t expect to see anything particularly exotic. Overall, I thought this was a fantastic vacation, especially considering how inexpensive it was. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the location was absolutely beautiful.
Well what can I say? My partner and I travelled out to PCP on 9th Oct, for 14 nights, and I can honestly say this is the best holiday we have ever had. We have stayed in the Dom Rep 4 times now, and this holiday was fantastic!! We met the best group of people ever. I just... more
