Hotel Flamboyant We were booked into this hotel from 22nd Dec 2010 to 6th Jan 2011 Scenery – Magnificent view across Grand Anse Bay from every room -that is the selling point of this hotel. Unfortunately all the rest of the selling points were horribly oversold. Staff ... more

We stayed at this hotel for 1 week, 2-9 Dec 2007 having booked independently with Dive Grenada, who have a scuba diving operation based at the hotel. We were on a room only basis but had a fab room on the ground floor to the left of reception. There are an awful lot of... more

pictures are deceiving
I was so disappointed when I arrived, I had booked 4 nights but after 1 night, I had to leave I could not believe the difference between what was advertised compared to what the Flamboyant actually was. My only problem now is I need to get back my payment for the other 3 nights!!!. A few complaints were the water in the bathroom was all clogged. Bathtub, toilet and sink to make matters worse the sink had chunks of stuff and brown water flowing disgusting!! also the hotel itself was like on top of a mountain remember to bring your hiking boots. One positive is the little time that I was there the people were very nice and friendly.
Relaxing stay at the Flamboyant
Stayed here for 2 weeks AI with my family including children aged 1 and 4. We loved: The staff - couldn't do enough for you and were excellent with the children. The food - excellent breakfasts including eggs cooked to order, a reasonable lunchtime a-la-carte selection, dinners were a mixture of buffet and a-la-carte both usually of a very high standard (I think there was only one meal during the whole stay that was not good). The vista - miles of beach, the bay and views across to St. Georges. The cleanliness of the rooms together with the ice cool AC. The Pool - usually empty and never a shortage of loungers. The service of our tour company's (Virgin) local representative Johanna - 1st class Island tour / design your own itinerary, arranged by the above and complete with the services of Selwyn - what he didn't know about the island, it's history, flora and fauna probably isn't worth knowing. A wonderful excursion flying up to Union Island and sailing the Grenadines on the schooner - Scaramouche, as featured in Pirates of the Caribbean Crab racing on a Monday night - amusing after a few cocktails. We were indifferent about: The walk back up from the restaurant, pool, beach, bar etc - first couple of days it was very tiring, by the middle of the holiday rather necessary and after being home a few weeks, I kinda miss it. However, If you're not in good health then it will probably rule out a stay at the Flamboyant. We didn't like: Being pestered by the local 'salesmen'. These guys made it difficult to spend a peaceful time on an otherwise beautiful beach and even followed you back into the hotel's bar (also a public house) to hassle you. At one point, a fight nearly broke out between 2 vendors who claimed "they saw me first". The Owl - a great place most of the time, but if the hotel really has to have a public bar, then it also needs a private sanctuary for it's guests. The Owl also advertises itself as a late night spot for the area and we were awoken a couple of times in the early hours by revellers (probably not from our hotel) at the weekend. Chargeable mini bar - given the efforts and excursion to get down to the bar, it would have been nice, not to have been charged for the privilege of a cold Carib beer on one's balcony. Balanced opinion: We had a great time, met some fantastic people including locals, staff and fellow travellers from across the world. We were well looked after and enjoyed some delicious food along the way. We took the opportunity to see the heart and soul of an island before commercialisation takes away the final remnants of old world charm. Did we get value for money? Absolutely, possiibly more so that anywhere we've stayed in the world previously. Would we go back to Grenada? Perhaps in a few years, yes. Would we re-vist the Flamboyant? We certainly wouldn't rule it out.
Not so great
We stayed at the Flamboyant for several nights. It was a chance to try a different hotel in Grenada. I'd say that the last reviewer was right on the money. We didn't do the AI, but other guests staying at the hotel who did felt that the food was mediocre at best. We ate on buffet night and it wasn't great. The rooms were clean but the walk up and down was a killer. Warning, this is not a beachfront hotel! The beach is down a steep hill from the hotel. As far as the Owl bar......that ended an otherwise pleasent stay. We stopped one evening for a drink and before we could take the first sip, a bar fight broke out and I was quite injured. I'm an older woman and I had my 20 and 23 year old children with me. It was all we could do to get out of the place while the staff stood there and watched. I later called Lambert to find out who the men were that beat us up. He completely tried to distance himself from any responsibility by telling me that they were not guests, but locals. But, he refused to tell us their names. So as the last reviewer stated, the Owl does attract locals. I would not recommend this hotel only because there are equally nice places in Grenada. Although the view is wonderful....just drive up to the parking lot and take a picture.
Mixed feelings
We have just returned from a two week stay at the Flamboyant Hotel; our first foray into the Carribean and all inlusive. The view from the top floor of the Merengue block - wow, all the way accross to St Georges. Grand Anse each was fabulous - really enjoyed early morning walks from one end to the other.Rooms were just above basic but very well maintained every day. The food for the first 2 days was great - although the brochure had not mentioned paying extra for shrimp, steak, porkloin, lamb cutlets and lobster; unfortunatley after then the food deteriorated badly - the buffet was boring, often cold to luke warm.On al a carte nights the choice of food was pretty much the same as previous nights. Lunch - same thing every day - choice of burger, hot dog, frried chicken or fried fish, a couple of days there was a bufett on offer which was very good, interesting meal options and lighter than fried, fried and chip, this was mentioned to both the Holidy Rep, Restuarant Staff and Larence Lambert and in all honesty attempts at improvements were made very fast. Breakfast buffett was always good - particulary the freshly made omlettes, although it was often frustrating to have to wait for your coffee each morning (milk is bought in a small tea pot!). The Owl Bar attracts a lot of locals which gives the place a good buzz but again the service lets it down - with only one staff member behind the bar mixing all number of cocktails and milk shakes, it often took a good 20 minutes to get a draft Carib! When Lawrence Lambert, MBE/Owner was around the staff took drink orders under the terrace and brought to your table but when he wasnt there, it reverted to long waits in the bar. We ate at other restuarants a few times - firstly out of boredom and secondly to see a bit more of the area and can highly recommend the restuarant at True Blue Bay - wonderful setting, superb food and service - my idea of what the Carribean was supposed tto be! (despite there being a mexican influence in the decor and menu - try the frozen creme dessert) and the Aquarium restuarant - by day and by night is a magical experience - again, superb service and food. We rented a car and got to see some sights on our own but had seen most of the Island when we went on a tutti Frutti Tour - our driver and escort for the day was Carl, Sunseeker Tours - the man is an encyclopedia ! immense knowledge about the flora and fauna, history - political and cultural - a very nice man - took in the Rum distilliary, including dead lizard in the tank; the Nutmeg processing factory, Concord Falls - a real disappointment, hardly any water falling but a local man told us that a dam had been built further up the river ! lots of info about the Island pre and post Ivan - including why we had seen hardly any coastal birds and what had been there before and what will, hopefully return to the Island again. The damage to the forests and main crops such as nutmeg, is still very evident but you can see a lot of regrowth too. Grand Anse is the famous beach in St Georges, but take a tip from me - follow the road past the Famboyant, up the hill and take a look at the beach that is hidden there - it is virtually empty, there is a wonderful bar, which does fantastic snacks and meals - the water is like an enormous bath and it has great snorkelling - they are begining to build again around ther so go quickly before it changes. Back to the Flamboyant - I have to say that my idea of a heavenly holiday is to read numerous books, sit by the pool (very nice, warm and once the jacuzzi had been filled a little more, this area was the best to sun bathe and take a cooling dip)or be by the sea - unfortunatley my Husband needs more to do and more to see, so it did not measure up for him. Would I go back? perhaps in a few years time or if I get superfit - the stairs are a killer, however the hotel does offer a transfer service on request but this is in very small print on their brochure - wwhich I am sure is cheaper that the option another of the guests took - hiring a car. Apart from the food issue I really enjoyed my time there - the Grenandians are wonderfully friendly, even the 'pests' - beach peddlers, were friendly, took no for an answer but still stayed had a chat, gave advice about where to go and what to see. If you need your nails done while your there - I recommend Miss Glamourpuss (really, that is the name) at the end of the road - really helpful, friendly and a mean freehand painter of nails.
Can't wait to return to the Flamboyant.
We originally planned to visit Grenada to celebrate our Silver Wedding anniversary in 2005. A week after we booked to stay at Coyaba, Hurricane Ivan arrived - which changed all our plans. Consequently, Grenada has been an island that has been on our list for some time, and which we have finally visited. We travelled with Travel Collection (part of Kuoni) and stayed at the Flamboyant Hotel on Grand Anse beach. Having been on several other holidays offered by this company which were all excellent, we were pretty confident that we would like the hotel and destination. We've stayed at some places with wonderful scenery, but nothing could have prepared us for the wonderful view from our room at the Flamboyant. It really has to have the best location on Grand Anse beach - providing you don't mind walking up and down a lot of steps (146 from the bar to our room - in our case!). Built onto the hillside - the accommodation blocks are laid out so every room has the most spectacular view from a generously proportionned balcony. The hillside location also ensures that if there is any breeze going - you get it! Our room - Standard grade - was a good size, with lots of storage space, a decent bathroom and kingsize (very comfortable) bed. The air-conditionning was quiet, effective and very easily controllable. Furnishing is simple and the friendly housekeeping staff do a great job in keeping the rooms well serviced. My only slight gripe is the there is no mirror anywhere near a power socket to enable you to plug in a hairdryer and style your hair. The dryer provided in the bathroom is just that - a dryer, but having no diffuser or styling nozzle is useless for hair that needs blow dry styling. However - balancing a compact mirror on a pile of books and the ice-bucket provided a Heath Robinson solution to the problem!! It certainly didn't spoil our stay. We really enjoyed all the meals at the Flamboyant. Lots of choice at breakfast, and locally orientated options at both lunch and dinner were really welcome (lunchtime roti's were particularly good). Some nights there is a buffet, some times it's a la carte - both were really nice. Everything was really fresh - and there were always good veggie options. The restaurant staff are very friendly and attentive. As for the bar - the cocktails are stunning! Didn't manage to work our way through the list - but both alcoholic and non-alcoholic were good - and served with a smile! We were on an AI package - and felt that we got excellent value for money. The wine provided with meals is very drinkable (unlike some places we've visited) - South African I believe. Evening entertainment (not every night) varied from OK to excellent. The steel pan band that played each Wednesday was one of the best we have heard in the Caribbean. All the beach and pool facilities are good. The hotel was very quiet during our visit so there was never any problem getting sunbeds, sunshades etc - but there are plenty anyway so I guess that even in high season there shouldn't be any major shortage . As for the island itself - we thoroughly enjoyed a trip to St. Georges, and to a private house with magnificent garden in St. Pauls. This holiday we both wanted to relax and chill mostly - which we were definitely able to do at the Flamboyant. However, our short visit has really whetted our appetites, and we intend to return to Grenada sooner rather than later. Next time we will definitely hire a car and explore the island (the driving style is nothing like as scary as some of the other islands we've visited!) and most importantly, we will make sure we stay more than 9 nights! If you are looking for 5 star luxury with all the trimmings, then the Flamboyant Hotel is not for you. If you want a relatively small hotel (66 rooms?), family/locally run, with a relaxed atmosphere (ie no onerous dress code in the restaurant), where the staff are really friendly and get to know you quickly, then we can certainly recommend the Flamboyant. So - would we go back to Grenada? A resounding YES! And would we stay at the Flamboyant again? Definitely!
Superior accommodation at a reasonable price
Date: May 1, 2006. I just returned from a one-month vacation at the Flamboyant Hotel and Villas, in Grenada, "The Isle of Spice", West Indies, and I will go back again. The hotel is situated on a three miles of sandy beach. Grand Anse Beach is the best beach on the island. I rented a Studio apartment with kitchenette and a balcony facing the Caribbean sea, St. George's Harbour town and the mountains beyond. The sunsets and moonlights are breath taking. I had a wonderful housekeeper, Annette. She daily changed my bed sheets and left the room sparkling clean. I was surprised at the whiteness of the bed sheets, and the mattress was as good as my own. Actually, I felt at home but away from home. The restaurant is across from the hotel and serves a delicious Continental breakfast. Lunch and dinner are served at the beachside dining area with a view of Grand Anse Beach, the picturesque town of St. George's and the mountains beyond. The Owl Sports bar is open from 6 am until 3 am to cater for all needs, and I had a wonderful time watching the 'Crab Racing' on Mondays evenings, and lost of fun during the Karaoke session on Thursdays evenings. There is Steel band music twice a week and a friendly staff happy to serve you. The pool is lovely and the Spa Ok. If you are into hiking, diving, or yachting, Grenada has it all. You can walk and shop around without fear of being assaulted, or jump into a tiny and crawded mini-vans to side seeing every town. Also, there are scenic and hikes tours, so don't forget to take your camera. Grenada has a variety of restaurants which offers local and some fine cuisine. Overall, this is the best hotel among the islands I have ever stayed. Grenadines are friendly people, and the island is perfect for mind and body relaxation. Good for couples, family with children and singles.
Nice place
My fiancee and I took a spur of hte moment trip and decided to stay at the Flamboyant. Check in time is 2pm but we were allowed to get into our room an hour early. Overall the Front Desk staff seemed pleasant and laid back. The room was basic but sufficient. Clean, well maintained and a decent size. The view of the beach from the hotel is amazing. Grand Anse is one of the best beaches in the caribbean in my opinion and the Flamboyant is at one end of it so it is relatively quiet. The beach and island on a whole is a relaxed place so this is a good spot for one of those do nothing vacations. The food at the restaurant was OK at best and borderline not worth the money. When we first got there and ordered a hamburger it took about 45 mins to arrive and we were STARVING. Not sure what was the cause of that. We did have the buffet one night and that was also just ok. Definitely get out and explore restaurants around the island for better food and variety. La Boulangerie down the road from the hotel was a great place for a simple quick meal. We rented a car and we were able to make our way around the island pretty easily. Grand Anse is defintely the best beach on the island by far so the driving was mainly to see some other parts of the islands, visit other restaurants etc. Also, the walking UP the hill from the beach can be a bit tiring but it is worth it. Overall, I recomment the Flamboyant because it is a decent value and good location.

My wife and I have just returned from our second trip to the Caribbean island of Grenada and it was truly refreshing, especially post Hurricane Ivan. Once again we stayed at the Flamboyant Hotel which we found through this website and must say that the improvements they have made as a result of Ivan have lifted them from a 4 star to a 5 star in our minds. We were allowed to stay in the same room that we had last year but we couldn't even recognize it, there was all new furniture and fixtures and a few added surprises like a blender and microwave in the room. Down at the beach we were greeted with even more surprises, there is a new all night restaurant/bar with pool tables; the best thing is that it is even closer to the beach than the main restaurant. We were actually able to have our dinner ON THE BEACH, sand between our toes and all. Lastly it was good to see some familiar faces from last year, Sherrin, Shelly, Marie, and the always smiling Lawrence who let us in on some of the things that we can expect next year. We look forward to that trip and feel confident in giving Flamboyant and its Staff Top Marks!!
Loved the Flamboyant
We spent the week of March 17 at the Flamboyant. By chance we picked the best view and location on the island. Great beach plus Morne Rouge just over the hill. Close to all the good restaurants. Lawrence Lambert the manager has put together a great staff and a weel run facility. Cannot wait to go back!Ron and Lu
