Very friendly and courteous staff
from Berbician
What makes this hotel special is the friendliness of everyone who works there. That includes the receptionists, the restaurant staff, the owner/manager and just about everybody else. The owner even gave me a lift in his own car on one occasion! If I had to pick out one person for special praise, it would be Denise at reception - she is a treasure. My room was large, the air-conditioning worked splendidly (and wasn't too noisy), and the bathroom was very well designed. All in all, excellent value for money - particularly after 15th April when the prices go down. The hotel is right on Grand Anse Beach and there is also a more than adequate pool with plenty of sun loungers around it. One thing that did surprise me, though, was that there were so few people staying at the hotel - I sometimes felt as if I was the only guest. People need to know that Grenada is definitely open for business again after hurricanes Ivan and Emily. Finally, I ought to point out that the on-site restaurant is independent of the hotel itself and that there is also another very good restaurant, La Belle Creole, within walking distance.
Peferectly managed, friendly hotel directly at the beach
from overseaman
We stayed 4 nights at the Allamanda. Big rooms, comfortably equipped with TV, Refrigerator, balcony, tub, AC. Reasonable prices 98 USD +18%. Not a luxury place but everything is there, in a most friendly and professional surrounding. The independant restaurant on the premesis is terrible. But there are nice places in short walking distance.
Allamanda - Good basic hotel
from Liz_Stelz
We stayed at the Allamanda the day after departing our Windjammer cruise. The hotel is back up and running at about 98%. The restaurant is only open for breakfast, but that's not a problem because there are plenty of other restaurants to explore. The rooms are comfortable, clean and have the basic amenities (i.e. blowdryer, shampoo, etc). The staff was very pleasant and friendly. The manager is excellent as he returned all of my emails in a timely manner when I wrote, ahead of time, expressing concern about whether the hotel was in good working order. We booked massages and the masseuse was very good even though the room in which the massage was given was rather stark (white, bright, no music - not spa quality). The massage itself, however, was excellent. The beach (Grand Anse) was beautiful and clean. The grounds were a bit ragged - not "park-like" - so a bit of sprucing up could greatly enhance the overall look of the hotel. However, since the main attraction of the Allamanda is the beach, the grounds would probably be considered a secondary concern. All in all, I would use the Allamanda again for a short stay as it is an average hotel with a great staff, wonderful beach and good location.
Not a resort, not ready for tourists.

We stayed hear for just one night on Dec 30th because it was such an overpriced and underprepared place. The place was damaged by hurricane Ivan in Sept. 04 and they haven't recovered, despite what the website says. I guess they're trying to raise the funds to fix the place by fleecing unsuspecting tourists. The hotel's website claims it has satelite tv... it doesn't. There's no hot water. It's extremely dark as they have only generator power. There is no restaurant. The front desk closes at 7pm. There are no resort facilities like watersports etc. It's just a water-damaged hotel (the furnishings will show the stains) that wants you to hand over $112 for the priviledge of staying. What gets me the most is that I would have gladly stayed there despite the problems if they were just honest in the first place, although I would never pay such an exhorbitant price for what is essentially a washed out La Quinta. What a terrible way to do business.
great manager - some hotel damage
from dmulli1
stayed here Nov 30th 2004 - hotel slightly damaged by hurricane & pool/cafe closed, no TV/hot water yet - but local shops etc. open. Surrounding hotels more seriously damaged but rebuilding going on. Grande Anse beach gorgeous & deserted, no tourists yet although some cruises starting again & locals are friendly. Special thanks to excellent hotel manager. My wife left handbag in unmarked taxi from airport. Manager went out of his way to make lots of phone calls around island to locate specific driver (thanks Mr Baker) eventually and get bag returned an hour later. My eternal thanks to both gentlemen - you'd find it hard to see the like in Dublin or NYC...
Loved It
from A TripAdvisor Member
I would like to start of by saying that this was more than I expected. I stayed at the Allamanda on August 21 for 7 nights and it was heaven. The rooms was spacious ( i had a garden room 301) maybe one of the biggest rooms at the hotel. Our air conditioner was giving a bit of problems but they gave us an additional room to use while it was fixed because I refused to give up that beautiful room of mine. I loved it. The staff there was wonderful also. There was nothing that they wouldn't do for you with out a smile. IF you ever go there make sure you make friends with Lavern and front desk she is just wonderful! This resort is directly on the beach the location is perfect you walk outside and you can find transportation and shopping including resturants and Grocery stores. this places definatly worth the money. but if you are debating on whether to get a garden or ocean view get a garden it doesn't make much of a difference I had both the garen rooms are much quiet also!
RELAXATION
from Magnolia4520510
Very basic hotel with nice staff and a nice beach. For animal lovers, take dog food because the stray dogs all over the island will break your heart! I couldn't find anything to feed them so I ended up spending a fortune on Kentucky Fried Chicken - taking the skin off and feeding them the chicken meat. Staff is very friendly as are most of the people on the island. Not a great place to stay but not the worst place either. Clean and the AIR CONDITIONING WORKS!!!
A pleasant stay despite the rain
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in the Allamanda for 2 weeks at the end of April. Overall the hotel lived up to our expectations of a 3 star hotel. The accommodation although basic was clean and the room was large with a high ceiling (we were on the top floor overlooking the garden). The sea view rooms were set back a long way fromt the sea and I felt that they didn't warrent the extra cost. The airconditioning worked and there was also a large fan. There was a TV which only worked on a few channels - but who wants to be watching TV in Grenada. The room had a balcony with a pleasant view over the hills to the north of St Georges. My main annoyance was the polyester sheets which were hot and sweaty. We ate in the restaurant every day for breakfast - it was reasanably priced around 15EC for freshly cooked pancakes and bacon with maple syrup, toast and juice and tea/coffee. The service was a bit haphazard - we were asked on several occasions to order twice and had a long wait at times but the staff were freindly and just very relaxed. We ate there for dinner on three occasions. The food was excellent with really good local flavours and very tasty. My only criticisms would be the surroundings (the food was priced at similar prices to other restaurants (about 50/60 EC for a main course) such as the aquarium but you sat on plastic covered chairs (very hot) and the decor was a bit tired) and again the service which was a bit slow at times. However these aren't major criticisms. The hotel also had a useful internet room (10EC for 30 minutes). The location of the hotel was good - right on the Grand Anse beach. The beach was nice although at times I got annoyed with the pestering by the locals. On one occasion we bought a necklace from an old man who pretended to be blind and then later pretended to be in a fight with another resident to say that his money had been stolen and he wanted more. We were also offered drugs on several occasions. The totel had a bar by the sea which seemed to shut very early (7.30pm). There was very little to do in the evenings - mosquitos were a big problem despite dousing ourselves with repellant I got over 40 bites. This meant that an evening walk along the beach was not a good idea. We ate in several restaurants. Rhodes at the Calabash was undoutably the best but was very expensive (just under £100 for 2 having 3 courses with wine and cocktails) but did free transfers. We ate at the aquarium on several occasions which was in a lovely setting on Pink Gin beach - great for snorkling (the Grand Anse was useless for this). Lunch at the aquarium was very good but dinner although nice and in a lovely setting in terms of food quality did not match up to our hotel. We also ate on Coconut Beach just down the beach fromt he Allamanda. The setting was nice right on the beach but we got really bitten and the food although okay was nothing special. We also ate in the Spiceland Shopping Mall, turn right along the road from the allamanda. This was really good value and the was a shop that did freshly squeezed fruit juices and another that did grilled ckicken very reasonably. The italian restaurant there also did good pizzas. The wather when we were there was very rainy. The locals said we were very unlucky. They had had a dry rainy season and now felt the rainy season had come early. It rained constantly and very heavily on about half of the days we were there. However we still had some sunshine and despite the clouds had to be careful with sunburn. We went on several excurions with Sunsation Tours all of which we good. We took the plane out to the Grenadines and sailed in a scooner which was great fun (£120) we did the Don't go Bananas Tour around the nutmeg factory and crater lake and saw monkeys and visited the Concord Falls (£20 half day) and visited a couple of local gardens. A couple of the tours we wanted to go on we cancelled due to the bad weather. We visited the island with Virgin who we very good, particularly our hotel rep (Sabine). Our homward flight was delayed by nearly 24 hours due to a bird flying in the engine and we were put up in the Rex Grenadian for 1 night. This hotel alhough outwardly impressive was not that great - the food was buffet style and low quality and the poor all inclusive residents were forced to wear an armband for their entire stay as well as suffering the awful food. However the room was nice (we were put in seaview room). Its location was very attractive and just down from the aquarium restaurant on the Pink Gin beach. However the beach immediately by the hotel was a bit rocky - not as good for children as the Grand Anse, but there was sand further up. Overall I enjoyed the holiday although it was let down by the weather. I would probably not visit Grenada again but this is only because there are so many other places I would like to see.
relaxed and comfortable

Situated right in the middle of grande anse beach.Easy walk to the shops and other hotels and restaurants. Plenty of choice of restaurants from a couple of pounds at the small supermarket mall to £40 at the best places. Average £20 a head will get you a very decent meal with some wine.Hotel is clean , well maintained. Rooms are spacious and quite well equiped. Not exactly luxury - but everything works - TV and fridge. very good bed. No tea/ coffee facilities - take your own -UK electrical sockets and voltages. If you are used to American luxury hotels you may be dissapointed - but this is a decent hotel and its position is excellent and its prices are sensible. If you enjoy a smaller hotel - this is probably for you.Outlook is quite pleasant - one side a small local park/ meeting place. Other side the coyoba hotel. From most 'garden'rooms there is a side view to the beach ( from the upper floors) Front few rooms look out to beachStaff very polite and helpful.Pool is ok - but not wonderful - but then you are right on the beach. Restaurant is quite good - can be a bit slow and disorganised - but very friendly. We used it several times - but on room only - we were able to please ourselves.Beach bar - low key and only open occasionally at night. I think another bar is advertised. This is by the restaurant - but not really used.Generally there is not a lot going on at night. One or two low key bars and a small disco at grand morne beach (3 miles) open 2 or 3 times a week. Good cinema approx 1 mile. St Georges is 10 minutes on the bus - but again very quiet.Beach is excellent. Good swimming - shelves down fairly quicky - but is quite ok - even for kids. Quite a few beach vendors - but they are not aggressive and move on quicly if you say no thanks.grand anse beach is not heavily developed and theres lots of space. It is heavily used by the local people - but all mix together - very friendlySailing school on site - which is interesting and means a slightly youger clientele than many of the other hotels.local (mad) bus service is very cheap and will take you anywhere in the grande anse / st george area.Generally lots of wonderful plants and birds. Very little shopping (even in St george) this may improve when the new cruse liner terminal opens shortly. Some intersting tours - but a bit repetive. Around the Island generally the roads are very winding and hilly. Driving is very assertive / agressive. We didnt hire a car and I wouldnt if we go again. It seems very safe. We walked everywhere in grand anse -even at night - to the more remote areas at the end of the beach (Flamboyant hotel) and more often than not people wished us a 'good night' when walking past.In all - excellent value and we enjoyed a relaxing holiday - which is what we wanted - and will certainly like to return.Thank you Allamanda
Great place to stay

Excellent place to stay. Good on site restaurant, but service is rather slow. Good restaurant next door at Coyaba Hotel with some entertainment. Very good watersport centre with RYA. instruction. Excellent island tours with Sunsation Tours. Situated on Grand Anse Beach and handy for St. Georges town. Good Luck.

Grenada is wonderful. Myself and a friend went with Virgin holidays and stayed at the Allamanda Beach resort hotel. It was clean, comfortable and spacious. I had read a review for the hotel, where a couple had down rated it, but how much time do you want to spend in a... more
